"i will never be too old. my heart maybe but me? nah." he sits up, eyes settling on yeonghwan, waiting for his frail heart to break. there is no way he'll actually get them classes right away, is there?

yeonghwan could definitely relate to feeling like you're going to go insane after too long without anything to do — it was one of the reasons why his work schedule was always so packed and busy, after all. excited to spend time with his friend, yeonghwan chuckled at haein's response, an amused smile appearing on his lips. " no hard drugs, i promise. " he replied in a joking tone, humming in thought for a moment before continuing. " mm, i could probably get us some skydiving lessons for today still if i try hard enough... maybe it's a little short notice, but i have my methods~ " the idol continued playfully, smile on his lips becoming larger. " wanna find out how that'd be like before we're too old to give it a shot? "

he's bored out of his mind today. the type that could easily push him to the brink of insanity; and insane boredom is a dangerous catalyst for haein. when yeonghwan calls to come over, he agrees with ease. some company should benefit him, offer an entertainment of sorts in this dull day, right? and then he's hit with some hard questions. something he hasn't tried before? he raises in a heartbeat, "what are you trying out? i want in. except hard drugs, you know i have a codependent tendency, so it would ruin me. — i haven't tried skydiving before. i wanted to but i'm getting older now, so i wonder: will i die if i jump off a plane?" chances are 50/50 on this.

jiyoon frowned lightly and pressed both hands against her cheeks until her lips formed a little pout. " then i must keep working hard to become all cool and collected like my unnies! " or just learn to hide her emotions a little better, at least — that was really the most important thing. following after yerin, jiyoon lowered her arms and let out a soft sigh. " ah, it's just... it's not that important, really! you don't have to worry about it... "

while taeran was indeed a very independent person who took pride on the fact that she could take care of herself and didn't need anyone, there was a part of her — that young child that had been so constantly neglected by her parents — that secretly craved to be looked after. not because she needed it, but because it made her feel cared for, in a way that she wasn't used to experiencing with anyone other than taesoo — and having finch be protective over her felt different than it would with anyone else, making taeran's heart flutter inside her chest in a way she wasn't really used to either.

it was true that the twins' job wasn't exactly safe, but they had been doing it long enough without many problems that it made taeran feel almost a little cocky, as if they were far too smart to ever be caught — at least up until now. " oh, yeah! we did, of course. don't we always~? " she replied with a little chuckle, playful smile on her lips. " i wasn't the one doing the heavy work today, though. i just had to chat with some people. "

finch couldn't help being so protective. she'd been this way since she was a little kid—first with her dad and then with any friends that she managed to keep. but it was so horrifically intensified with taeran. she knew she was independent, knew she could take care of herself. but all finch wanted to do was tuck her into her pocket, keep her far, far away from all the horrible things they were both way too aware of. but all she can do is pull her a little closer, glare violently at anyone who looks at them for a little too long.

"good." she knows what taeran means when she says work. and she knows with the kind of work they do, it's lucky they got away as safely as they did. it could have been serious. it could have been deadly. it makes finch wish even more that she'd been there to help. "did you get what you needed? are you doing okay?"

hearing yerin's words, jiyoon couldn't help looking up with wide eyes, a look of surprise replacing the frown on her features for a moment. " ahhh, was it really that obvious..? i thought i was getting better at hiding it... "

" don’t worry about that right now. " he spoke in a reassuring tone. while they seemed to be concerned with the trio’s protection and apologizing to them, oliver couldn’t really give too much importance to that fact  —  not when facing such a gruesome injury and not knowing what he could do to help. at that moment, his entire focus was on making sure that solum would be okay and providing them with comfort in any way possible, not wanting them to suffer any more than they already had.

the concern was clear on oliver’s features, brows furrowed slightly as his mind went through all the options he could think of at that moment. a hospital didn’t really sound like a great idea and he knew that from his own personal experience dealing with unexplainable injuries, but if there was no other choice… or maybe he could ask keller if his brother could help..?

zer words brought oliver back to the current situation, pushing away the thoughts about all the possibilities in favor of something far more practical and helpful for the time being  —  something that he should have thought right away and that sounded rather obvious now, but oliver's lack of experience with these matters ( especially with a supernatural being ) got the best of him.

" oh, right. yes, that’s should be first step. "  he nodded in agreement and finally whipped into action, but not before giving his hand a light squeeze as he looked at solum with a gentle and reassuring smile.  " you’re going to be fine, i’m gonna do everything i can to help you, okay? "  and now it was time to get to work.

"i do. i do. i can't help you and kaede and jae anymore. i'm sorry. tell them i'm so sorry." they can't imagine they'll get the chance themself. if they survive this (and they truly don't know if this will kill them, they never thought much about how angels could die), why would oliver's friends want to see them? they've failed, in every way possible.

but oliver's hand is so warm in his. he's never touched oliver before, not really. he shielded him with his wings and guided him down hallways and murmured inaudible suggestions in his ear, but they've never physically touched. it feels so good it makes solum want to cry all over again.

"we need to...... stop the bleeding." the last fractured remnants of zer wings twitch without meaning to, sending fresh waves of agony and blood over zer body. ze can't tell how much ze's actually bleeding, shock and the cold rain dulling zer senses, but ze knows it needs to stop. the vessels of angels do not function the exact same way human bodies do, but ze doesn't want to risk bleeding out.

and it also knows humans don't usually handle this much blood very well. "m-my skirt. you can tear it for a bandage. if you don't m-mind." but its fingers twitch sadly in oliver's grasp, not yet wanting to let go.

emi's confidence had mostly definitely come from her mother, who taught her at a very young age to never show any weaknesses and give people ammo to get under her skin. perhaps this was a slightly stoic and almost cynical way of seeing things, but that didn't matter — it worked. fake it til you make it, right? it was truly the only way of surviving in the industry she found herself in. seeing aeri's reaction after taking a sip, emi looked at the other with a hint of concern in her gaze before letting out a soft chuckle. " hey, be careful! there's no need to rush drinking that, take your time~ " the model hummed, lightly patting the top of her friend's hair. " as for dating... i don't think you're doing anything wrong! it's just become more difficult to find people that want the same thing that you do and everyone's just too fickle, i think — or at least that's what my friends who are actually looking for a relationship say, i can't really confirm nor deny. "

when daehyun had decided to come back to the industry, he didn't plan to disappear from the lives of the people he met during his hiatus or completely let go of the lidw he built for himself at that time — but perhaps all the years away from the spotlight had made him forget just how busy things could get and, before daehyun noticed, more time had gone by than he realized. it was then that he made an extra effort to move things around in his schedule and make some time to come see jinsun. hearing the other's response, daehyun couldn't help smiling brightly, a hint of relief on his features at their reaction. " oh, yeah, it's been going well! definitely only reasonable amounts of bleach this time and a looooot of deep conditioning treatments. " he joked, letting out a chuckle as he leaned slightly into jinsun's touch — daehyun always liked his hair played with, after all.

he can't blame daehyun for his disappearances. after all, it's only he left the spotlight that jinsun got to meet him at all. but that doesn't mean he doesn't miss him. for the first time ever he finds himself keeping up with an idol, wanting to know what his friend is up to and if he's okay. and god, jinsun's thrilled to see him again. "you don't suck!" they cry. "i know how busy you've been. oh, let me look at you." without much thought, they run their fingers through his hair, checking for damage. "have they been taking care of you? not too much bleach?"

after saying her piece to him, taeran was just going to get back to her original plan — which was to just put on her earbuds and listen to loud music to kill some time while she waited for taesoo to be ready to go. as she looked for the case inside her bag, however, he spoke again and made her lift her gaze to look at him. " tch " she scoffed lightly, eyebrows raising again. " you have an active imagination, don't you? i'm just here to pass the time. "

" the model joked around, showing the confidence she always always walked around with like it was her armor. if there was one thing people would quickly learn about taeran, it was that she was stubborn. if anything, his response only made her want to stay there more, only to piss him off since he was so keen on getting her to leave. with arms crossed in front of her chest, taeran raised her chin slightly and looked in his direction with an annoyed expression. when she spoke, there was a hint of mockery in her tone. " if you're so bothered, you can get your ass up and leave yourself. you won't tell me what i can or can't do. "

oliver hadn't met them before, yet he couldn't help the strange sense of familiarity he felt looking at the other, concern becoming even clearer on his features. with everything he had seen in his life until now, oliver knew better than to be skeptical of what he didn't know or to truly believe in coincidences — but this wasn't the time for him to be contemplating such thoughts, knowing that he needed to, first and foremost, guarantee that they were no longer in danger and give them any help he could to make things better.

the response he was given was not one oliver was expecting, eyes widening slightly in surprise — but it was one he readily accepted, used to making quick judgements and trusting his instincts, which were telling him at this moment that ze was telling the truth. while oliver had never met an angel before, it wasn't hard to make an educated guess about who and what ze was.

he didn't know he could help. he didn't really know if he could even do anything — but oliver knew that he would stay here with him, at least, even if it was simply to provide some sort of comfort. " don't worry about me, you don't have to apologize. " trying to be as reassuring as he could, oliver took one of the other's hands with both of his own and gave it a little squeeze. " there must be something i can do to help. is there anywhere i can take you? just tell me and i'll do what i can. "

oliver had never spoken to them.

they used to daydream about the idea, foolishly, in their weakest moments. guardian angels weren't supposed to be attached. they weren't supposed to care like this outside of their duties. but how could they not? oliver was so kind, so brave, so fun. how could solum not want his beautiful smile to be directed at them?

and now, for the first time, he's speaking to it. and it's not beautiful, it's not powerful, it's not smiling back at him. it's a bloody wreck in the mud, and this is so, so, so unfair.

"you can't help," he sobs. solum thinks he's crying. all he knows is that it hurts to move, to breathe, to turn his head enough to see oliver in his periphary. he doesn't feel their weight, but he can still feel his wings—burning, throbbing, contorting. "they took my wings, oliver. they took my wings. how am i supposed to keep you safe now?? i'm sorry. i'm so sorry."

speaking to him is against the rules, unless absolutely necessary. touching him, unless absolutely necessary, is also against the rules. but does it matter anymore? he's no longer zer charge. ze is no longer his guardian. why follow the rules of a family that has cast zer out? solum hates to dirty oliver's skin, but ze reaches out anyway, weakly grasps at his hand. he's so warm. ze's so cold.

while she had been looking around for reasons she would not disclose, the other's question made taeran immediately turn in his direction, eyebrows raised as she looked at him — she couldn't help her nature and defiant behavior. the bus arrived just as the right time to be the distraction that she needed, giving taeran a moment to let the subtle blush on her cheeks disappear as she made her way inside and picked a seat far in the back. she tried really hard not to think too much about the arm wrapped around her shoulders or the fingers that ran through her hair, about how warm and comfortable it felt, and how she didn't want finch to stop doing that... she could totally not think about that. " uh... well, kind of..? we were just... working when they showed up and there was a bit of a situation — but nothing really that serious. " which was just code for nothing that could put them in jail.

"all about you, baby." this feels so painfully like a date. her arm around a pretty girl, taking her to dinner. spending all her time and money on her. that's another thing to worry about. things have been better with dad's new job, but money's always tight. this'll be most of her spending money, but it'll be worth it. even if she has to take another job or two. "as everything should be."

the bus arrives on time for once; she lets go of taeran for long enough for both of them to find their seats. and then her arm is around her shoulders again. stop treating this like a date. she runs her fingers through the other girl's hair. stop treating this like a date. "were they just.... being cunts? or were you two busy?" they don't...... talk about it much. but she knows they live the same kind of life. she knows the kind of danger they can both be in.
