scotty was the most enticing woman you’ve ever seen. long lashes relaxed as her eyes were glued shut from sleep, lips slightly open as her slow, even breathing was the only sound she made as she slept. you wanted nothing more than to attach your lips to her plump ones, but you resisted, too scared that you would startle her awake. slowly, you draped your legs over your bed, trying your best not to wake scotty out of her light sleeping ways. closing your eyes, you took a deep breath, relishing in the new day that has been blessed upon you with your lovely girlfriend.

you stood up and walked to the bright, sharp rays of sunlight coming from your window. with the windows open and the slight autumn breeze blowing your curtains, you could hear the birds chirping, people walking and talking, and the road from below you. you looked outside your shared bedroom window as you saw the liveliness outside of your apartment. a couple struck your attention; two black boys, one with pink dyed hair and the other blond. they looked young, around the age of high school students, and they were laughing heartily as their arms were draped over each other. you wondered in the back of your mind, ‘what are those two laughing about?’ you smiled lightly at the adorable sight and averted your gaze from the two, not wanting to seem like a creep.

just then, you felt a pair of hands behind you wrapped around your waist, caressing the silk of your night top. the body attached to the hands came up closer behind you, and you could feel scotty’s entire body against your back with her head in the crevice of your neck. “why’d you leave?” she asked, mumbling into your neck. she slightly pulled your body connected to hers, a small gesture to come back to bed with her.

“i never left, my love, just wanted to look out the window for a bit,” you reassured her. “it’s cold outside; don’t stand by the windows you might get sick.”

you smiled lightly as she pulled you back into bed with her. you turned around to face her front and wrapped your arms around her torso. she placed her hand on your cheek, an endearing way to comfort you and tell you she was grateful to see you this lovely morning. she leaned in impossibly closer and placed a chaste kiss to your lips. that was enough for you.

“you wanna know what I saw out there?” you asked with your lips slightly turned upwards; you knew she’d say yes. “what’d you see, love?”

“I saw the cutest little couple outside around fifteen, and they had their hair dyed cute colors too. and the way they looked at each other was adorable. like they were the only people in the world,” you stopped for a second to reminisce. you shrugged with a meek smile on your face, “I don’t know. It made me remember when we were that young.”

scotty giggled as she closed her eyes, resting her forehead on yours. “ugh, you make us sound so old,” she joked. but scotty remembered. she remembers it like it was yesterday. kissing in the girls bathroom, holding hands on the bus rides and whispering sweet nothings in each other’s ears, scotty taking you out on little dates after school, all of it. all the moments you shared in high school were the first moments you hung up on your shared fridge the day you moved in together, courtesy of scotty’s old camera. she printed out all the photos you took together on your old dates and hung them up for both of you to see. ”yeah, I remember. of course, I remember. but we’re not that far off you know? I still look at you like you’re the only girl in the world,” and to scotty, you really were.

you leaned into scotty, capturing her lips with yours as you kiss her slowly. your hands come to her face and slowly traveling to her hair, running your fingers gently through her silky hair. scotty pulls away from you breathless as she stares at you silently. she chuckled softly as nothing else needed to be said. you felt her love practically radiating off her body, and you felt it deep in your soul. a love like this was rare, but you could proudly say that scotty was yours. she chose you from the very day she laid eyes on you, and you knew it because you chose her too.

question for anyone with thoughts on the subject: books about true events are expected to be accurate. if you read a book called "the teapot dome scandal" (or whatever) you would expect to read about the events of the scandal.

if there was a chapter in the middle of it that you found out later was completely made up by the author just to keep you engaged cuz he thought you might be bored otherwise - with no notice that it had switched to fiction - you would be mad, right? you would have expected it to be made clear to the reader what is real and what is a fictional insertion. because, even if it doesn't have a bibliography or notes, you expect such a book to be factual, because it's explicitly about the teapot dome scandal which is a thing that really happened. (again, just an example.)

but it's different for tv or movies, when something crosses from book to digital it's immediately accepted that it will be quite fictionalized and inaccurate and that's just how it is. a tv show about the scandal would have fake characters and a total messed up timeline and tons of dramatic license just by default. if you were picky about it people would be like "well just enjoy things."

why is the standard so vastly different? is it because tv and movies are less "serious"? i feel like that's not a popular position - and yet it would seem so cuz otherwise what is the reason that tv is not seen as capable of presenting actual history? i was talking irl about this and my friend said it's because tv has to be fictionalized to be more successful and interesting. but lots of history books are sold to the general public and quite interesting and even the most mass-appeal paperback histories would still be rightfully criticized for freely mixing fact and fiction.

why is tv history supposed to be totally different than written history? it's like taken for granted that history prevented in a visual medium NEEDS to be full of dramatic inaccuracies. i'm struggling to understand this.
