on this the eve of the m9 reunion I for one would like to wish the most VISIBLE of weeks to canon aspec icons caduceus clay and essek thelyss. both have AMAZING senses of fashion. have worked hard to be POWERFUL spellcasters. can walk into a room and have an IMMEDIATE vibe check on every person in it. have not a SINGLE social skill between them. an absolute pleasure to have them both playing for the “eh… don’t get it” team. ty matt and taliesin for your service.

i firmly choose to believe that the reason there weren't any cats in that house when Bells Hells bamfed in was because both Essek and Caleb are responsible cat parents and they both realized that their usual hierarchy of in-home catsitters (Beau & Yasha -> Jester & Fjord -> Veth, Yeza & Luc -> Caduceus) was depleted because they were all gonna busy with the liveshow shenanigans.

You know who wasn't busy? Kingsley.

You know who was next in that hierarchy? Definitely not Kingsley! (It was probably Dairon, but Dairon was busy running around the Cobalt Soul frantically)

So I love to imagine that the world is going to hell and there's at LEAST four cats in their house that need proper care and nobody is available to do it, so in a last ditch effort (because Mittens needs a special wet food diet and Krumel needs some medication and the others are simply too social to be left alone for too long) Essek phones up Kingsley and asks him.

Only for then, four days later, Essek stops into the house briefly to grab supplies and pauses halfway up the hall when he realizes that the cats are nowhere to be seen.

"Kingsley?" he Sends, trusting of his friend but not entirely sure of his character. "Where are the cats?"

"Oh, I had to go deal with a new trade deal by Port Damali!" Kingsley replies cheerfully. "Don't worry, the cats are with me!"

Essek pauses. Inhales deeply. This was the man he helped save, this was the man he mourned before a literal miracle of the gods brought him back.

"Kingsley," he Sends again, already bitter about the extra spell slot usage. "Are you at sea? Are you on a boat?"

"Yup!" comes the unadulterated happy reply. "The Captain's cabin is nice and roomy, and Krumel loves chasing down mice! Surprisingly helpful on a boat, cats! I might keep 'em!"

Essek physically restrains himself from wasting another spell slot on the tiefling. Instead, he touches the stone held in his palm.

"Caleb," he sighs. "I believe our cats were catnapped by Kingsley."

All he hears on the other end is a fit of laughter.

Wizard Breakdown Tracker: Mighty Nein Reunited, Part 2

Gather ye wizards while ye may, though with the return to Campaign 3, we are finally headed to Yios, where there are wizards, once we finish with the Gloomed Jungles, where there are were-creatures, which are also very cool. The hierarchy is, as always: paladins; wizards; were-creatures; literally everyone else; dhampyrs, kalashtar, changelings, and "hey DM, can I play a tiefling bard with intelligence 7". But I digress.

Ludinus Da'leth: So at this point (ie, shortly post-this episode), Caleb, known bridge between the Cerberus Assembly and the Cobalt Soul, has taken a job at the Soltryce Academy, which means any efforts to make a new, slightly more palatable volstrucker program and quietly keep it from Archmage Becke are going to go straight out the window. The walls are closing in, and he doesn't even know that Jester can go to the Feywild. 7/10.

Astrid Becke: Caleb listened and took the job! That's one success in what's got to be a thankless new position in many ways. Also I still really want to know who the hell has become Archmage of Antiquity, or if the Assembly just writes that one off as "make a deal to bring back a powerful Age of Arcanum entity and raise it to godhood once, shame on you; make a deal to bring back an powerful Age of Arcanum entity and raise it to godhood twice, shame on us and also what the fuck are we going to do with two nickels in a society that uses gold, silver, and copper currency." 3/10; Astrid's doing better than she ever has in this tracker, and good for her.

Eadwulf Grieve: Caleb is still keeping him in mind, which is good, because he really is like...look, he's a wizard, so he's not dumb muscle, but compared to his two former lovers he's very clearly the 'And Peggy' of the bunch. On the other hand this means he's probably just organizing the Temple of the Raven Queen Yulisen Night Potlucks and inventing the Exandrian equivalent of Minnesota Hot Dish or something. 0/10.

Yussa Errenis: Is aware of the storm on the horizon. Is chilling in his tower. Is largely unbothered. Other people pointed out that while he has developed a reputation for fucking around and finding out, he has also technically never physically left his tower to do so, which is honestly impressive, but does explain why Beau did not have to bamf out a partially dissolved old wizard when she ended up in Uk'otoa's gullet. Anyway, glad he's keeping up with Caleb and making potions. 3/10, for being aware of the storm.

Allura Vysoren, whose name I keep misspelling: Yasha did give Kima back the sword, and Caleb doesn't seem to have her staff, and she helped make a new, cooler sword! 2/10 for League of Miracles reasons only.

Essek Thelyss: Still under a lot of political pressure, regardless of where he is...but he's also getting, as Figueroth Faeth would say, his kisses in, so better than I expected! 5/10.

Caleb Widogast: So here's the thing. It is, as the other post said, about the green beans. And it is, as my last iteration of this said, not time for deep Caleb meta in here. But I do have a lot of thoughts about the similarities between Caleb and Fjord, as I always do, and about how neither of them really had much of an understand of what happens in their life past That One Big Thing They Need To Do, having already woken up at some point and been like *Mitski voice* I used to think I'd be done by 20. I do feel that the Caleb Widogast of part 1 of this two-shot was truly a Caleb Widogast who could go either way re: the T-Dock usage, and the Caleb Widogast of part 2 of this two-shot is not; the event has not (in my understanding, at least) occurred but the decision has unconsciously been made. Also he's dating Essek and he gets to have Dragon Time, which sounds like Floor Time but better. He does get a 4/10 though, because he takes it upon himself to become the Mighty Nein's Social Event Coordinator. As someone who just had to cancel a carefully scheduled D&D session for tonight because I am sick but also the DM and if I have to talk for 2 hours while simultaneously using my brain I will cry, this is very stressful.

Veth Brenatto: Camp's going great! Only one kid died, and not permanently! 1/10.

Fjord: For real? Who knows. I personally imagine that it does, as they say, briefly go to 11, because though Uk'otoa is dealt with and Zehir seems to have understandably gone "you are way too interested in love and the ocean for me to give a shit, I'm going back to bed", Fjord (not unlike Caleb) has to sit with the fact that he's done with that and he's happy OH GOD HE'S HAPPY WHAT THE FUCK DOES HE DO WITH THIS. Also he has to deal with the orphanage, which is going to be traumatic and unpleasant for sure, plus you know someone named "Grankton" is going to be holding a massive grudge against the world at large. But with time, it settles back down somewhere more reasonable, only to briefly spike and resolve again during Kingsley's little maneuver. So you know. Some numbers, probably.

There's a pretty reasonable explanation for Ludinus deciding to act on Kadija at that moment - the banished Ruby Vanguard member that bamfed back to Ebenold's house reported in to their higher ups that someone else was making a move on the Grim Verity/Omen Archive/Seminary in Yios and that Tuldus was unaccounted for.

There was an easy 3 hours between the fight and Ludinus showing up at Kadija's office, plenty of time for Ludinus to have heard about it, check on his eggs in Yios, and decide to risk attending in person.

That was a desperate move - after working slowly through diplomatic channels over years to seize the archive and take over the archaeological dig, he personally storms into a professor's office, feebleminds them, takes their research, and leaves three potential witnesses?

I think Beau and Caleb are very much nipping at his heels, if this was 20 years ago he'd have had a bunch of wizard assassins to bamf in on short notice and do his dirty work for him. He's old enough to have seen other apogee solstices come and go and bide his time, but i think he knows this is his last chance.

I am SO EXCITED that we’re getting a Mighty Nein one shot around the solstice because I feel like with the connections BH have to Campaign 1 we’re gonna see what happens with Keyleth and HOPEFULLY VAX COMING OUT OF THIS ALIVE!!!

But the Hells only connection to MN is having met Beau and Caleb one time, and since sending magic isn’t working the stone Orym has won’t be much help! If Beau and Caleb are being held by Ludinus at the excavation site there is a chance that we see them get rescued, but if they also got bamfed away the Hells really have no reason to try and find them (even though im sure the cast is ITCHING just as much as we are). Also while Vox Machina is now connected to this because of their friends the MN have been in this fight with the assembly for over a decade so them getting their own focused episode makes SO MUCH SENSE especially with our beloved Wildmother boys.

On that note SURELY Taliesin plays Cad for this right?!? If there was ever a time to have two clerics THIS IS IT! AND ALSO THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL ESSEK IS NOT THERE TOO!! GIVE US OUR HOT BOI MATTHEW.

With how many main campaign episodes we have between now and Oct. 25th, it’ll be really interesting to see where we are in the story by the time this reunion happens!

“After the Solstice”. Isn’t the Solstice still happening in game? So, if I mathed right, there is 9 more episodes before the Oneshot show, so the Hells still can have a “rescue mission” (if they are on the Moon with Ludinas as prisoners) or the Empire Siblings are just chilling in Zephrah and the Hells didn’t think to ask about them. Maybe one or both of them for slashed like Keyleth (same on both wanting it or not wanting it) and are waiting to be healed or just waiting to leave for some reason? Teleportation being iffy could be part of it, or it’s the closest there is to a HQ. Or they got bamfed somewhere, but them just skimming over it seems almost anticlimactic? Which is perfectly fine if they go that route! It’s the Bells Hells time, not the Empire Siblings time. I do wonder if Matt has told Marisha and Liam if their characters are safe if they don’t show up in game until the Liveshow?

I genuinely do not think it's that deep. "In the wake of the solstice" implies to me that the big part has come and gone. They're not going to be fighting back the rolling horrors without Beau and Caleb, and from a sheer production standpoint I feel like they're not going to hype up the Nein coming together to do a thing (a thing that is specifically NOT "search for their own") without two of them. The implication to me is pretty strong that at least for the vast majority of this oneshot, the empire kids are not the sole focus. I would expect maybe a few minutes to an hour at the beginning where perhaps they make it home and rally the others. The point is, the empire kids are fine and I refuse to worry about them when everything since then points to and supports that. If it was a search for two of the Nein it would've been pitched that way, I feel. We are to assume the Nein in its core 7 (8 but Taliesin isn't pulling double duty - unless he is) are working together in this oneshot. That means there's very little room to spend on the empire kids and that's fine. I feel like we'll find out what they were up to when they tell the others.
