The actual color of Vaas’ eyes and pants (plus his deleted tattoo)

I was looking for a clear picture of Sam Becker’s tattoos and stumbled upon thePWA’s DeviantArt account. This user uploaded the 3D models of five Far Cry 3 characters: Vaas, Buck, Sam, Liza, and Hoyt, and provided links to download them.

Unfortunately, when I opened the “sam_tattoos” texture file, it was just a gray image. I don’t know if Photoshop simply isn’t the right program for this or if there’s something wrong with the extracted file, but in any case, I couldn’t see his tattoos... If anyone here has the texture or knows how this can be fixed, I would really appreciate your help :/

However, since I had them too, I looked at Vaas’ textures and, interestingly, the tattoo he had in one of the trailers is included! I’ve already talked about it here (I still like this theory), and I suppose the fact it’s available in the files suggests it was removed quite late into development.

I also wanted to see his eyes and pants because most people depict him with dark green/brown eyes and dark green/khaki pants (even Ubisoft themselves, as demonstrated in the Insanity DLC). This is mainly due to the fact his appearance changed over time and he did, at some point and in promotional material, have green/brown pants and eyes, but since they’ve always looked light blue-gray to me instead in the final version of the game, I wanted a definite answer.

So here is his (deleted) tattoo, as well as his in-game iris and pants:

Apologies if this is an overreach, but if you could share the name of whatever fic series that is via private response? (tumblr has a private ask response option, I believe) I would like to avoid reading it if I ever stumble upon it.

Genuinely don't want to create drama because this fandom has way too much already. But I would like to know what to avoid because April deserves much better than that.

Honestly I think I would rather recommend information on how to recognize negative tropes and portrayals, and to avoid perpetuating them. The problem isn't that one particular fic, it's the attitude behind it, and it's not just that one creator who has that attitude. Learning to recognize and avoid or call out racism is going to go way farther than avoiding a single instance of it, I think.

Here, here, and here are some useful posts by @/creatingblackcharacters on the topic at hand, misogynoir and stereotypes. They've got a ton of good resources for both writing and drawing Black characters and I can't recommend them highly enough. The blog @/writingwithcolor is also a really good resource for information on negative tropes for people of color and how to avoid them, and they've got an archive spanning back years.

Also, look for Black creators and creators of color in the fandom to follow, and listen to them. I'm just a white girl who's learned to recognize some stuff. Don't mistake me for the expert here, learn from the people whose voices matter the most on this topic.

So my take on why Tommy calls Buck Evan...

I think it's because it bothers Tommy, that he's older than Buck. Because as much as he claims to find Buck "adorable"... That word is kinda telling, I think. It's infantilising. Puppies and kids are adorable! Calling your date adorable? Uhh.. It kinda just sounds like you think they're immature, wet behind the ears, less capable than you are.

So... Yes, Tommy is older than Buck.

Buck, the nickname? I think that to Tommy it just feels like a juvenile nickname. He prefers Evan because it sounds more mature, because Evan sounds like a grownass adult, a man. And Buck btw... is often used to describe a young animal. Older deers etc. are bulls, stags.

And yeah, Buck may not mind being called 'Evan' anymore. He has grown, maybe he now likes someone calling him Evan. Might be a nice change, someone acknowledging his maturity that way. As Eddie said to Buck after the lightning strike. Nobody is the same person from one day to the next. Buck doesn't need to be anything for anyone.

However... I do think the combination of 'Evan' with everything else that's going on, like Tommy calling him adorable... It does feel like trouble on the horizon.

Tommy... He's the guy who shows up to a 80's theme party wearing a henley.

And don't get me started on "he couldn't change, he was on call". C'mon, he was on car, nobody would rely on public transport when they're a firefighter on a call. He drank orange juice, he had a car parked nearby, he could have just taken a change of clothes with him to the party, and quickly changed his clothes if he was alerted to work.

Seriously, how many seconds does it take him to change a shirt, he has literally been trained to get dressed quickly, he's a firefighter!

So yeah he could have dressed according to the theme. He just didn't want to. He thought the theme costumes were above him. He thinks he's past that age, too old for costumes.

So that's why he calls Buck Evan.

Because he doesn't get silly fun, really. He thinks he's too old for nicknames, and theme costumes, and he thinks he's Buck's elder.

Because he hasn't been there to realize how much Buck has gone through, how much he has matured from where he started. He hasn't seen Buck help Eddie raise Chris, he hasn't seen the way Buck is always there for people to pick up the pieces and fix things when someone is in trouble. He hasn't seen Buck's responsible, mature side, has he?

Nope, he wasn't there to see Buck's growth, how wild he was when he first joined the team, how different he is from that Buck 1.0. So now he just sees the energetic, bubbly personality, the baby bi awkwardly stumbling out of the closet, like a Bambi on ice...

and thinks that Buck is adorable.

Like he's a child.

And.... I have a feeling that learning that Buck just trashed a hotel room suite with Eddie... will hardly make him rethink this impression!

might be me having too much faith in the loser, but i do think eddie understands the love that he has for buck is different than how he cares for most ppl. he doesn’t even think about he just….loves buck. now does he know it’s on a down bad homosexual level? well no, but! but!! he’s one of the most important ppl in eddie’s life and he knows that, the will shows that. he’s aware enough to know how much trust and love he has for buck. which for eddie, we’ve seen that trust is the most important thing, with shannon he said he could forgive her but not trust her. with buck it’ll never come into question, ofc he does. it’s buck.

yeah , yeah ceres was a horrible runaway father. but i'm going to enlighten you to a few things. he's sort of based off bambi's own father ; detached , stoic , a revered figure that is near-impossible to get close to even for his son's efforts. and for all the nonsense he employed in raising kaen , he - in his own subtle ways - tried to grant kaen some semblance of comfort. and i'm not just talking about how he financially provided for the family , how neither kaen nor their mother wanted for nothing when he was around. here's a few silly things he did in his time :

true , he contributed to kaen's extreme sense of internalized misogyny and made them have a contentious relationship with gender overall , but did you ever listen to how he would introduce them to others ? "MY SON , MY BUCK," spoken with such pride in his voice , such hope ( maaaybe a little too much emphasis on the hope=expectation bit , as this also proved a detriment , enforcing perfectionistic ideals ) .

as a nine or so foot-tall heteromorph , he often planted kaen on his shoulders , letting them slump between his sprawling antlers and play with his mane ( sometimes trying to steer him around or put flowers in the long red tresses ) . is he smiling ? no , you're seeing things.

he took notice of kaen's fascination with film and built , all by himself , an outdoor screen like you see people do on TV. it didn't... come out very well. and when his doe cocked her head at the botched handiwork asking , "what... is this for?" ceres grunted and nodded to kaen vibrating in place , sparking cinders and grinning , "... for that."
