Mercy and Judgment (Revelation 8:1-5)
There is nothing easy about moving through suffering.
Seven angels with seven trumpets, and the angel with a censer, from the Bamberg Apocalypse, c.1020 C.E. Then, when the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. Then I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and seven trumpets were given to them. Another angel came and stood at the altar, and he held a gold bowl for burning incense. He was given aâŚ

the locusts from the bottomless pit
"The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were crowns of something like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like womenâs hair, and their teeth were like lionsâ teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months." - Revelation 9:7-10 (NKJV)

You Gonna Have to Serve Somebody: Thoughts on Christ the King
Does Christâs kingdom exist only in the future? Or is it somehow breaking into the here and now, even in the killing fields of history, where you need the faith of a dying thief to see it? #ChristTheKing
The Enthronement of Christ (Bamberg Apocalypse, early 11th century). The extremists in American politics say that God is on their side, but such statements are lacking in content. Their âGodâ is not really expected to supply any concrete assistance, such as plagues or angelic legions, to carry them to victory. âGod-on-our-sideâ language is just a dramatic way to say that âwe are right and youâŚ

Friday: Preparation for the Seventh Sunday of Easter
Hebrew Scripture Torah Lesson: Exodus 24:15-18
Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud. Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. Moses was on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
Psalm 47
Clap your hands, all you peoples; âshout to God with loud songs of joy.
For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, âa great king over all the earth.
He subdued peoples under us, âand nations under our feet.
He chose our heritage for us, âthe pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah
God has gone up with a shout, âthe Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; âsing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the king of all the earth; âsing praises with a psalm.
God is king over the nations; âGod sits on his holy throne.
The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. âFor the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted.
New Testament Lesson: Revelation 1:9-18
I, John, your brother who share with you in Jesus the persecution and the kingdom and the patient endurance, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, âWrite in a book what you see and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamum, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.â
Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands I saw one like the Son of Man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white as white wool, white as snow; his eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined as in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and from his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining with full force.
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he placed his right hand on me, saying, âDo not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living one. I was dead, and see, I am alive forever and ever; and I have the keys of Death and of Hades.â
