A getaway to the small fishing village of Ballycotton on the Eastern coast of Cork. The Cliff walk from the village to the Ballyandreen beach is flanked by green meadows on one end and the Irish, Celtic Sea and the wild Atlantic on the other. The bird trail is often frequented by people and their lovable dogs 🐕. There are a number of spots along the trail, namely Paradise, The Hut, Ballytrasna, Stone Bridge and The Hump. We got down near the waters at Ballytrasna, approximately 2 kms into the Cliff walk. The views are absolutely stunning! Do have a good pair of shoes for the walk as the trails are often muddy. Mine were literally "sole-less" and tied together using a hair band by the end of the walk 😂. The tides rise in soon enough so start early. The walk isn't a loop and one needs to get back to the village. We skipped the Pier for food. The folks at the car park area in the village often greet you as you walk past. An elderly couple were kind enough to suggest few lovely places to eat at. Do try The Schooner Tavern and B&B, Skinny's Diner Restaurant or the Seachurch Restaurant in the village. Pic Credits: @snehasampath_10 @naina_nair10 @tanishka.talekar ❤🤗 PS - It was in Ballycotton village that the MV Alta, a ghost ship got washed up on the rocks during Storm Dennis in the Atlantic in the year 2020, two years after it was abandoned. By 2022 the hull had already split in two. #ballycotton #cork #ireland #walks #trails #cliff #ocean #trips #friends (at Ballycotton Cliff Walk) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnId88YqqzR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#OTD in 1936 – The Daunt Rock Rescue.
The Ballycotton lifeboat ‘Mary Stanford’ returns to its home port in East Cork following probably the most famous sea rescue in Irish maritime history. Ballycotton fisherman Patrick Sliney was Coxswain of the life boat which spent over 60 hours at sea, in a successful attempt to save six men from the lightship that guarded the Daunt Rock. The Royal National Lifeboat Institute website states: ‘A…

A warm November so far here in Ireland with up to 19C recorded and eleven weather stations around the country recording new maximums.
Still less than the maximum of 20.1C recorded in Ireland, it has meant the start of winter has so far been quite unseasonal.
Here, a cloudy but warm day at the coast of County Cork with Ballycotton Island Lighthouse seen here.

On April 22nd 1838 the 703-ton Sirius, built in Leith and carrying 90 passengers, reached New York.
Built originally for service in the Irish Sea, the 703-ton Sirius, a side-wheeler, was chartered by the British & American Steam Navigation Company and sailed from London to New York by way of Cork in 1838 with 40 passengers. Her fuel ran out just short of her destination, but her captain, determined to complete the passage under steam, refused to hoist the ship’s sails and, instead, fed spars into the furnace.
Sandy Hook, New Jersey, was sighted in time to avert a potential mutiny, and the Sirius beat the much larger Great Western to New York by a few hours. In addition to establishing a crossing record, the Sirius introduced an important technical innovation, a condenser to recover the fresh water used in the boiler.
On January 16, 1847, Sirius ran aground in Ballycotton Bay in Ireland. Most of the 91 on board were saved, but 21 died.

This is a short lineart animation tribute to the late Irish Blues Rock musician Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) , who was known by his intenses songs and performances and if were alive, he'd turn 76 years old today on March 2nd. In 1973 has released one of his most popular songs, a haunting jazz rock song called " A Million Miles Away", which is a track from his fourth studio album called Tattoo. According to his brother, Dónal Gallagher during an interview he gave in 2005, Rory was walking on the Ballycotton Cliffs when he was struck by inspiration and disappeared to write it. Dónal also tells in the interview that he was so worried about Rory's delay that he was about to call the search party out... And through this story I've decided to create my animation because this story always has moved me.
