This is Juno, canon non binary ancient hero/alpha in game, and my fav as you can tell! Their backstory is just sooo good! I wish we had Balloosh in PW 😩

any of yall want trivia about one of my favorite things in animal jam that no one cares about. THE AREA SIGNS

that's right, these bad boys. simple and not meant to stand out, but i'm quite fond of them!

there's a surprising amount of variation that these signs have had over the years, which. well it's actually not that surprising given how few graphics in animal jam are actually consistent lmao. but anyway here's a bunch of fun facts about em!

1. each area has a building icon to represent it, which is always consistent between signs. the chamber of knowledge for temple of zios, the juice hut for crystal sands, the tree for appondale, etc. but there is just one that's incorrect, and it's the sign pointing to the township from sarepia.

that building is the old version of jam mart clothing. from before jmc and club geoz swapped places in the beta testing.

let me repeat, this sign was already outdated during the beta and it has remained unchanged for 13 YEARS

2. most of the signs are drawn in this style here, with intricate shading and dark straps+hooks.

but a few of them, inexplicably, aren't. they look like this instead.

the weird thing is that the earliest signs in the game (ones shown in beta) and the newest signs (ones added with balloosh) both use the first style. so i guess this second style was some weird middle period where they changed the standard for some reason..???

3. the underwater area signs aren't as interesting since they are actually fully consistent. probably because all the underwater graphics are in vector instead of the usual crusty jpegs, they could streamline it more.

they do have a cool style to em though, and i think this crystal sands sign looks funny

4. the area signs in lost temple of zios are not there anymore. like they are just. gone. they were here in the beta, they were here in 2015 when the wiki's picture was added, and at some point they disappeared.

from what i can tell i think they were removed in the 2017 solar eclipse version of lost temple of zios and just... never got brought back.

5. the sizes of the signs are so inconsistent and i love it <3

Just wanted to do some ideas here of how Ancient Phantoms worked a bit better back then in the olden times, since they're more threatening then

so we know that whatever the outcome of the light vs dark scenario is, something permanent will happen to ajpw. and l30ra says we can either “lose ground to the dark” or “gain new ground for the light”. so what does that mean?

i’m sure everybody can agree that the ground we will lose to the dark is probably going to be alpha hq in jamaa township. and it’s probably going to be replaced by club geoz.

but what about gaining new ground for the light????

personally, i think this could be a way for ajhq to bring aj classic’s balloosh to ajpw. it would kind of make sense too, because balloosh is all about juno who could symbolize “the light”.

the only issue with this theory is that ajhq would then have to figure out how to fit balloosh in with ajpw’s lore, because balloosh brought direwolves and saber tooth tigers in an classic, but ajpw already has those. but honestly i think they could figure out a way to make it work!

rant over. we shall see what happens!

New lore hint in the jamaa journal. I really hope this means we'll get Juno as a full alpha instead of a Statue. Please ahjq I am begging I want them as a proper character so bad. Also like if they came back in a new adventure then uh that'd be cool. We haven't gotten a new adventure since the release of balloosh :)

the lore for aj is already A Mess what with them constantly redacting and retconning their lore (phantoms will forever be mira's tears to me... rest in peace zios) but the funniest part of it all to me is the fact ajpw and ajc have entirely separate lores at this point. part of that just the fault of ajc being at a bit of a standstill until they get the WEBGL update finished, but also... Balloosh doesnt exist in ajpw. they got rid of it. in it's place is a dinosaur land, which has its own unique lore. but never fear, jammer! your beloved ""juno"" still exists. instead of being turned to stone inside the temple, they're.... beneath the ice of mt shiveer? or statues of them are, at least. theres dark fossils that glow with phantom energy. the mira statue has one of her feathers blessed inside of it. the phantoms stole it and cursed jamaa with Dark Miras for a hot minute. sometimes phantoms just show up around jamaa and you have to beat them up. you can even summon them with potions. also, have you ever wanted to visit the phantom dimension? you can! its just jamaa but narsty and theres also some friendly npc phantoms who wear funny hats and sell you wares. graham collects dinosaur eggs and sells you children. cosmo was not included in the friendship festival alpha photoshoot. your pets can have their souls harvested and put into a specially chosen pet to superpower them and give them an ethereal glow. this is normal

GOVERNMENTS! LEADERSHIPS! WOO!! i hate politics but Jamaa having a flag (last time I checked) suggests that there's some type of government or organization right?? like, yeah the jammatians could've just joined together and said something like "we stand together forever" but no. nah. no thank you. SO, i haven't thought about fully implementing this yet, but i kinda want to? hear me out; the lands of Jamaa have different pseudo-governments and cultures. there's only so much you can do in a game that [was] focused about educating kids the alphas don't count here k? Jamaa Township has a council-based "government;" the alphas make decisions. Township is a jack-of-all-trades thing, anyone from anywhere lives there, so the culture is one big loving doting hug of complete fuckery. Nothing makes sense except the things that do. A leopard runs the news station alongside a penguin. A great horned owl is playing the orchestra on top of the diamond shop. Jam Mart is always empty, a room filled with nothing but pillows exists, it's always crowded and nobody knows personal space even if it gutted them. It just makes sense. Appondale and Kimbara, which are in a territory dispute in my rewrite, both have a vague government structure following the same thing; battle. Appondale and Kimbara both LOVE battle, but in different ways. Appondale, and every other land, by default, also has the alphas that live there in charge (ex. Atlas and his pride, Olive, Biff, etc.) Outside of that "official" government, it's a chieftain system. Tribes in Appondale are somewhat isolated. News gets around, but everyone wants to be left alone outside of events. A gathering for something and other happens, Appondalians (?) celebrate and build camaraderie, and then the camaraderie is basically forgotten about when they retreat to their respective tribes, families, etc. Kimbara, being a smaller land in my rewrite, dabbles in military aristocracy. Protection is NEEDED, and since Kimbara is so bare, warlords are celebrated instead of regular chieftains. Tactical brilliance on the battlefield is what earns you respect. If you have a good sturdy build in Kimbara, use it! They're probably more interconnected because of this. Not necessarily hosting meetings per say, but maybe just little things, like marriages between different tribes. Castes most likely exist in families because of this, we'll see.

Being a warlord's offspring isn't earning you any leverage in Kimbara; blood is as thick as water until it's on the ground. Meritocracy but not really but actually kind of.

In Appondale, blood means everything, to the point of family heads being the ones who call the shots for the land, especially noticeable in Atlas' pride, where obviously the males/head of the family is in charge.

on AJ i was like "Twister and Match-Up are nostalgic to me, and Sky High. idk why just that side of the map is though." & now I'm like. wait. it's because the other side of the map didn't exist. The westmost game was probably River Race. they didnt have Appondale or Shiveer, they didn't have Super Sort, Pill Bugs, Falling Phantoms, Swoopy Eagle, or that Pacman clone i don't remember the name of.

they should add a game to Balloosh

okay so in the original classic timeline zios created the world, but got lonely so he made mira his wife, and then they created all the children of jamaa and thet lived in harmony until fighting started between the different species and thats when the phantoms attacked. they used the animals disharmony to their advantage and started destroying jamaa. thats when zios and mira needed to get the animals to work together so they picked one animal from each species that they saw able to work with others well. these were and are the alphas, and they gave them special powers and showed the others that they could work together and they started fighting back against the phantoms and eventually killed the phantom queen and won, but as the phantoms retreated they pulled zios into a portal and mira went after him and thats basically the story of animal jam classic without the lost city b-plot, in which juno sacrifices themself to save balloosh by sinking it into a cavern bellow jamaa and is turned to stone and still stands in the temple of the ancients. oh also the reason we dont have all the animals yet is the phantoms stole heartstones which are the basis of all of the species of jamaa.

Animal Jam Journey Book Kani Cove

I'm putting together a text/gif guide for the journey book! Were starting with Kani Cove! All the creatures aside from the urchin are moving so remember to be patient it can take a minute or two to appear. The guide will be under the read more!

Fun fact of the day, when the journey book was introduced in 2011 only the underwater areas were included!

From the starting point head up and to the right to find the spotted snake eel, it will be sticking out of the barrel

wait here for a bit and the Nautilus to appear

watch for the cuttlefish its fast-moving and blends in!!

head back to the treasure chest, the sea urchin will be just above the treasure chest, well you're there the parrot fish is to the left get that well your here.

Just down from there is where the conch will be found.

okay be patient with the shrimp it's clearly shy, it will bounce along the bottom of the screen the easiest place to spot it is down from the treasure chest.

head up and right toward the sail, there you should see the cormorant!

to the left of the cormorant/above the treasure chest will be where you can find the manatee and hammerhead shark. These two require you to wait quite a bit!

the reward for this is the toy boat pond!!
