SUMMER’S WARMTH Dippin’ in the sun’s cradle

For the longest time, the only goal I try to achieve is to fight sadness. I kept my utmost aspirations in a drawer for I cannot really deal with them at the moment. I just want to be better first, I said. For some reason, as much as I don’t want it to happen, melancholy keeps on knocking on my doors and barging in my windows.

It finally happened: I think I was dealing with Post-Travel Depression. That Taiwan trip was fucking lovely, but the aftermath is bittersweet – a guilty pleasure I want to taste no matter how I resent it. Suddenly, I was back to being stagnant, just doing the things I was required to do with no actual plans on moving forward. But I guess it’s the only way to do it. Pain demands to be felt, they say.

On the other hand, the good news happened: I was swayed away from that sadness when I was offered another film project again this month, finally a great distraction from it all. Also, my heart became full for a while knowing that the film would be an entry to my most favorite film festival in the country which is Cinemalaya. I had a good fun I may say; the film set was warm and full of laughter. On free days, I still find myself biking around town taking photographs, a good balance it was.

This May was another ride on a crazy roller coaster, full of ups and downs, and I was just here for the thrill. The best part though was I chose to close my eyes and somehow enjoy the ride, slowly moving away from the fear until I felt like I was just drifting again with occasional rush. I ended the month okay, accepted the sun’s warmth, feeling neither happy nor sad.

Still, but breathing.

while i cant assign him a specific province, i definitely do feel that he loves being out of the city. i hc that he particularly likes mountainous regions because he likes hiking and trekking.....

a tumblr friend recently asked what a typical Tsinoy food would be? although this question seemed vague, I will show some of the meals we eat at home. 

but then, do know that although we are of chinese descent, majority of our food are pinoy (which i seriously love) like adobo, sinigang or pinakbet among others. ..my friend had this impression that it’s mostly dimsum for us like siomai, hakaw, yang chao or sweet and sour pork. hindi naman. For example the meal we had the day after new year was mostly reheated food. we had bao’s (bread buns like siopao) and we make a sandwich of oyster cake, glazed ham and bok choi. 

we are also big in seafood. for example we had stir fry suaje or in Mandarin we refer to as  yu bao xia 

or zhà yú  (pronounced as zha - yi)   which is a general term for any fish that is fried.

and we do mix our viands as we are not that traditional naman. we would serve bee-hoon (pancit bihon) along with  sarciadong isda or manok from Baliwags which means our cook is dead tired or lazy, she sent out the driver to buy manok outside. 

i will make more kwento next time as i am sleepy na.

IT ENDS TODAY I choose to free myself from chaos

Sometime this July, I had a short but meaningful conversation with a psychic friend and he told me something I truly needed to hear, he said that my Karmic year has concluded and that I must live my life a little more freely from now on. He asked me if I had dealt with a lot of heaviness in the past year and I couldn’t agree more because I did. But it’s over now and he’s right on that one too. I love how my life treated me the past month, silent battles were won and I’ve been wearing more smiles lately than a while back.

I have spent the first 2 weeks of this month still in Taiwan and I think I have mentioned the details of that in my June entry, but I just really want to remember my ecstatic feelings over it. Now I’m back here in the Philippines, back home. Back to my old routine, and appreciating the calmness of it all. I am still carrying the happiness I have regained from that work trip and I think I will stay in this lane for now.

I am at peace and I am loving every second of it. Sometimes I worry about endings but perhaps I just need to appreciate this little life while the serenity lasts. That is it. I am just here, bracing myself for more light, love, bliss, and even pinches of bleedings ahead because I believe that’s how life creates its balance.

Maybe I could also preface this in that in BG3/Forgotten Realms, her religious beliefs are basically everything has a spirit and the spirits of her ancestors live among the trees, the animals, the rivers, etc.

In Thedas, Dolores was raised in Folk Andrastian. She grew up in Seheron (with summers in Treviso) and followed her mom's family's, the Marasigan's beliefs which is a mix of Andrastian, the indigenous beliefs of Seheron (so spirit veneration) and elven (there's a giant vhenadal in Baliwag, the town she grew up in). No one in her family follows it but there are a some people in her town who still follow some tenants of the Qun.

Though it'd say it's 75% Andrastian and 25% the rest of them. It's the only way Josefina Alvaros would be fine with her son marrying an elf—an elf from a wealthy family but an elf nonetheless and also from arguably the most disputed territory in Thedas and disputed by Qunari and Tevinter Imperium. (Though the Marasigan's wealth was more through land ownership until uhh....the son of a merchant prince married one of their own and they got sovereigns.)

As an adult though and after being put through the wringer known as the Circle of Magi and the Breach, Dolores doesn't believe in anything anymore. If the Maker was real and listening, then He would've granted grace to the good mages after the Circles collapsed. If the elven gods were real and listening, then they wouldn't have let the Breach happened (HA) or save Domenico from becoming a dreamer.

The only exception to this is the spirit veneration from the indigenous Seheronese beliefs. In fact, that's the one that makes sense to her since she has been working with a spirit.

Georgie

Again prefacing that in BG3/Forgotten Realms, Georgie is a cleric of Talos then later cleric of Bhaal after Orin got to her.

Andrastian, like devoutedly so. She was the youngest child of a noble family and well her older sisters Beatrice and Philippa were the heir and spare respectively and Georgie was given a few options. Go to Orlais and train to be a Bard or live a cloistered life in the Chantry. Georgie didn't want to stay in Orlais for longer than necessary so she decided to go to the Chantry. It would only be till Beatrice takes over.

As a Chantry initiate, Georgie basically was devoted to her studies. She became a lay sister within a year and would've been on the track to become the youngest Mother in her chapel if not for receiving the taint (TBD for Warden!Rook's backstory lmao)

As a Warden, her Andrastian beliefs haven't wavered, in fact she believes that the Maker made her into a Warden to better serve the people. Her Andrastian beliefs have helped her through some of the pretty rough shit she saw as a Warden and ofc through the nightmares.

Again Andrastian but with a Nevarran twist. I don't think any of that has wavered after he became a Mourn Watch except he is more convinced that the Orlesian Chantry's beliefs on burning the dead after they died are wrong and the Nevarran method of preserving their dead is correct

Im still workshopping her DA playlist. I'll take a few songs from her BG3 playlist but uhh the BG3 playlist is geared towards "suffering eldest daughter escaping the toxic patriachal society that she was raised in by making a pact with an eldritch creature" and she's Not quite that. (Still suffering eldest daughter though)

There is this quote from The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi that fits her in Thedas as well :)

Still workshopping as well! I'm probably not gonna make a playlist for him till we get closer to the game's release. (I mean I won't make one for the others either till then, it's just....they have the advantage of being characters I've made before)
