Any thoughts on Moonpaw’s design? Do you plan to make her appearance a bit more unique/utilize the chimera a bit more?

Honestly I think her canon design is pretty fantastic! I don't agree with those who're saying it's not unique lmao, like, the team's never been THIS creative before. She blows Pure Gray Cats 3, 4, and 5 out of the water.

But, boy oh BOY am I gonna have fun with this one. Last night I sketched up a possible combo for each Moonpaw from the options I presented. Whichever one gets picked I'll tweak more, but I went ahead and made a 'base' character design for each one.

Also bonus: Headshots for all of the possible parents. Note the slight update for Stormcloud, I figured out a better way to draw his cheek fluff and changed his stripe pattern a bit

Whatever designs end up not being used for Moonpaw, I'll probably tweak for another new litter. ThriftPlum and ShellFern's hypokits will slot well into the eventual ShellFern litter we (HOPEFULLY) get soon, and with a slight edit, StormCherry's can be a new Honeyfur.

PlumThrift

This one's becoming the least likely to happen I think. It could still win if it's the most fitting with the arc, supposing canon ends up writing a strained relationship between Moon and her parents, but based on the preview stuff that's not the case.

Still! I do like the Two Soccer Moms And Their Weird Child lmao.

Thrift and Plum are a downright deadly united front. They play Good Cop Bad Cop like they're practically telepathic. So I tried to get that across in their headshots.

Plumstone always looks laidback and chill. Thriftear exudes an aura of seriousness.

Their weird child inherits neither of these things. She looks like she eats bugs.

I decided to make this Moonpaw look REALLY fluffy. Plumstone inherited her grandpa Graystripe's body type, so it would be a shame if Moony didn't get it too.

FlipBay

BB!Bayshine is a DustFern descendant. He has his great-grandfather Dustpelt's plate.

The stripes come from grandfather Birchfall, who gave them to mother Duststripe.

Flipclaw is strikingly similar to his grandfather Lionblaze, back before he started balding.

While drawing this one I started trying to play around with the chimera idea more, that she's half of one cat and half of another. When the face plate came into it, it STRUCK me like lighting

It looks like phantom of the opera!!

So I started experimenting with one side being shorter-furred, and got a draft down before moving on to a waaay more in-depth design.

This was the last one I did last night before going to bed, so I'll post the evolution I made in a separate post. It's the one with the most potential thanks to the plate so it got pretty big.

ShellFern

Most Moonpaw designs are chunky, but I've always seen Shellfur as pretty slim. Definitely the slimmest in his recent family-- since Graystripe, the Dapplekin family has been thick and fluffy.

Mix that with Fernstripe, a WindClan cat, I made this Moonpaw resemble some kind of gazelle.

Fernstripe has this long, "fern-shaped" stripe on her body. Paired with Moonpaw's half-black body it looks kind of like stitches which is, imo, cool as fuck

I let her crescent-tufts add to the shape too, they curl in like horns... though, I am worried it looks too much like Curlfeather.

I'll probably give this one another pass if Moonpaw ends up being a ShellFern baby.

Also this take makes her took a bit more grumpy so she's closer in personality to her dad.

StormCherry

This is actually the first one I did

Cherryfall has a perfectly round, cherry-shaped face. She actually looks a ton like her dad, Berrynose.

I wanted to give Moonpaw that same face, because hers is simply a half-moon.

She looks like a stressed-out eevee and I kinda dig it LMAO

In color, this Moonpaw would probably lean more towards red than ginger. I see Cherry as a reddish cat.

She could also inherit Poppy's special red eyes-- she got those from being fetched away from StarClan by Jayfeather. Shadowsight also got them.

The stripe pattern is from Stormcloud. I decided recently that I'm going to try and limit thunder-shaped stripes to the Tigerkin family, something they inherit from Thunderstar himself. So Stormcloud's are now transverse across his body, with a distinct nose snip.

When I finally do decide StormCherry's kits, be that now with Moonpaw or later, I'll standardize Stormy's new stripes by giving him a new fullbody.

Alone in the crowd of people, a man walks toward the back of the pavilion. The pidgey nestling in the roof's beams are able to track a walking puff of black among the sea of colourful jumpers and hats. He tenses more and more as he brushes against the chattering strangers. They might not be actively against him for once but that doesn't make their existence any more tolerable. By the time he makes it to the other side of the busy area he's nearly chewed a hole in his cheek. It'll be worth it, it'll be worth it...

Most of the way to his goal so now is the time to wait. He stands at the end table of food with a paper plate. Sandwich for himself, sandwich for Maury so he isn't ratted out to Jane and a spiced cookie couldn't hurt. As he grabs the biggest pieces available, he eyes a couple talking nonsense on the edge of the temporary stage: the mayor and the Monpanion charity head, Deana and Amy. That riolu should be nearby then. Little shit wouldn't have to steal with their trainer so near to the food. When did they stop talking? Oh they're staring. Can't they keep their eyes – he bites the cheek not facing them. Amy gives him a wave and he gives a shaky excuse of a smile before dragging his eyes away to the food. The red white and yellow plastic tablecloth hanging off the table ripples despite the lack of wind, stealing his attention for a moment. He moves his leg to kick at the flapping material but stops himself as he's smacked on the foot by a silvery paw. He gives a singular laugh. His foot rejoins the floor with enough force to make some pokémon by the end of the table yelp. As Amy steps off the stage, the man smiles and begins to walk over.

“Sorry, think I put m' foot down too 'ard.”

"Oh don't wor–" As soon as Amy looks up he knows the other's face. He rises to his feet and shakes his hand. "Conleth!"

“Amadeus. Y' been a'right?”

"Very well, thank you! I was just telling Deana here how wonderful today has been. Your ears must have been burning!"

The balding man looks over his shoulder to his mayoral friend. With a visible sag of her shoulders she steps off the stage to join the conversation.

''Yes,'' Deana begrudges, ''Amy did mention you came to his stall. Good to see you... contributing.''

“There's only so long I can stay stuck inside f'.” Conleth gives a dry chuckle after a beat. The 2 hosts join quickly if unsurely. “Just here t' help Maury."

Amadeus accepts the attempt to keep conversation cheerful: "How've you settled in, dear?"

“Ah fine 'nuff. 'ouse's ratha nice than–”

"LOUU!!!!"

Heads whip to the end of the food tables. A riolu's been launched out from behind the tablecloth! The charity man runs to his pokémon's side as they scamper back to their feet.

“Ey, what happened t' y' guy?” Conleth asks. He steps to the side to try peer under the table, righting himself when he nearly loses his food.

Amy grabs ahold of the cub slashing and gnashing toward the table. Deana's eyes flick to Conleth. She marches to the table and yanks the hanging material up. Only crumbs and a discarded plate. Amy stays calming and consoling.

“Did y' see 'nythin'?”

''No, no-one's under there–''

Glare now sharpening, Deana looks to Conleth. He hadn't addressed her, instead he'd asked Nadsat.

''Has your eevee been here the whole time, mister Foley?''

“'Course. Has t' dun' she? Service 'mon always has t' be at my side.”

''Why did Amy ignore her?''

“How 'm I meant t' know?” Conleth's voice raises in volume and frustration: “My presence 's 'pparently 'nough 'f a distractin' nightmare,” Nadsat nips at the end of Conleth's jeans, “ev'ryone starin all th' damn time–”

"Enough!"

Amy stands with the riolu in his arms.

"Dea, leave him alone. You're stressing the boy out. Con, go give Maury her dinner. I'll call you later, dear."

“F–” Conleth sighs – “Fine. Thank y'.”

Conleth gives a smile to Amadeus and a polite nod to Deana. Nadsat follows him in tow back through the pavillion, most crowds having dissipated somewhat. The black puff and silvery fluffball leave each with an increasing spring in their step.

Uhhh lemme think, aside from my recent eye-replacement guide that was a big hit, I think my most popular posts have been… small mice? People seem to love a small mouse. Also there was that one bald eevee that was funny.

Not saying that you should exclusively post small mice and memes though! When I started this blog, my aim was just to catalogue my big collection in a way that was satisfying to me, while giving special attention to each toy with a nice photo, and that was all. I just put the things I loved out there, and people seemed to enjoy that. Your motivation should be that it’s just fun to do for you!

youve awoken the beast kylea. also to preface this i dont give a fuck about competitive viability this is mostly just on their design and character, and a little bit abt their use in single-player

but youre in your right to vote pikachu, i considered it but voting for pikachu kind of felt like voting for saltine crackers in a "worst foods" poll bc like. yeah theyre nothing great but actively hating them seems like a waste of energy to me personally yknow

charizard is a fair enough choice to vote for given how much its popularity has been milked over recent gens so i wont bemoan anyone's vote toward it. but i personally find it hard to hate charizard on its own merit bc overall its still pretty dang solid

greninja i think is more than fair to vote for. its a very good pokemon to use in-game but it falls dangerously into the "designed to sell action figures to 11 year old boys" category of "cool" so it loops back around to being kinda lame to me. that being said i dont hate greninja theres just better options for me

lucario is the objectively correct option to vote for. i like it just fine, and i won't complain about its furrybait design (<- incineroar stan), but like cmon. its the lamest one here and we all know it and we know it. they tried to replace mewtwo with it in smash and ill never forgive that

if you voted gengar its because youre an obnoxious contrarian. i get being tired of its popularity but its popular for a reason. literally nothing to complain about on its own merit. hes purple and fat and i love him

garchomp is what i voted for personally just bc ive never really gotten the hype around it. people love to tout cynthia's garchomp as a mark of their traumatic childhood experiences with pokemon but i personally was more scarred by her spiritomb when i was a kid bc i literally thought my game was glitched when i first looked at that thing LOL. its design is fine but again feels real 11 year old boy action figure to me which i dont personally care for

i liked eevee way more before they started marketing it as the counterpart to pikachu. i despise the fucking Noises it makes in lets go eevee and onward. the eeveelutions, ive said before, are the disney princesses of pokemon in how oversaturated they are. but eevee itself isnt to blame for any of that so it felt unfair to vote for it

As much as I tend to dislike Pokemon, some of their concepts for their monsters are actually kinda neat, and I wish I could find some avenue where they did more with them and their described factors that I just never see discussed or considered.

Like, just for example, my favorite Pokemon is Eevee. Eevee is genetically unstable. It can evolve in so many different ways because it's prone to rapid mid-life adaptation that is entirely unrealistic but also incredibly bad-ass.

It would be neat if unevolved Eevee were known to be sickly and just physically varied, beyond what could be expected: prone to cancers and odd, benign growths; commonly being found with extra tails or fewer limbs; growing antlers or horns; having bald spots, and different genetic lineages having worsened or improved sensory functions. Stuff like that. It would be kind of horrifying, especially given the kid-friendly nature of the franchise, that's true. But it would also be pretty neat!

I'm sure there are plenty more examples of ways to flesh out the characteristics of Pokemon and make pseudo-realist changes to the games to reflect their Pokedex entries. I mean, the Poison and Steel types are full of bizarre pseudo-animals. Living trash bags! Clearly-man-made machinery!

Like, okay, this isn't a steel or poison type but, what's up with Voltorb??? Are we really just gonna act like that shit's completely normal? Something weird's going on there and I would like to know what!

You could write an entire game's plot-line around exploring some of these Pokemon and their place in the ecology as well as their unique traits that could make each one a fan-favorite. Putting that level of detail into it all would be great for the marketing of an already massively successful franchise with tons of money behind it.

So...why don't they do it? Or if they have, why have I never heard of it?

Unown - 5 Seconds (This was actually my last one pokémon, I ran out of time and knew this ho was just a line)

Abra - 1 Minute, 30 Seconds (I also drew himb a lot but I had to redo his legs because i made them fucken massive)

Budew - 2 Minutes??? (I knew he was like wrapped and stuff but I totally forgot his physics lmao)

Traumatized Magnemite - 20 Seconds (ez ass pokémon to draw)

Eevee - 2 Minutes (for one of their mascots i do not find this one easy to draw at ALL. Extra time spent to make the body shorter and more stumpy)

There is a feral type Eevee, but it’s a… weird evolution. You have to get it to level 20 by fighting a feral type-Pokémon. Maybe I’ll get a photo of it someday.
