Announcement!

From April 18 (Thu) to 28 (Sun), I’ll be part of Stage “Bakumatsu Taiyoden Gaiden”! I’ll be together with this one again. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu ☺︎ (x)

Stage “Bakumatsu Taiyoden Gaiden”

This will be a stage play adaptation of the movie of the same title starring some of the good-looking 2.5D actors to set the stage in this rakugo-style show with a lot of singing and dancing involved! This is in commemoration of the 100th birthday of Director Kawashima Yuzo.

Starring: Sakiyama Tsubasa, Aoki Jin, Isogai Ryuuko, Kanegae Kou, Kosaka Ryoutarou, Hayashi Akihiro, Miura Kairi, etc

Dates: April 18 to 28, 2019

Venue: Mitsukoshi Theater

Bakumatsu Taiyoden’s synopsis taken from the 2011 remastered movie website:

Set in the final years of the Samurai period, Bunkyu second (1862). There was a red-light district in Shinagawa equivalent to the one in Yoshiwara. Upon entering a famous Shinagawa brothel named Sagamiya, the protagonist Saheiji throw off his straw sandals, ignored his three companions, and indulged himself with alcohol and various other costly activities. However, he had not a penny on him to pay…

Therefore he remained as a servant to repay his debt, and worked day and night in Sagamiya. Before one knows it, he became indispensable. He encountered and successfully solved many disputes one after another with his wit. Solving other people’s problems was easy for him, so was befriending the conservative Shinsaku Takasugi, and he strolled through a period of tough time.

Second (Cast) Announcement!!

Along with the cast I want to live the last days of the Shogunate!

I had some time today, so I was able to watch the movie.

Even without a cent, he was a figure that ran through that era by himself Edo's "smart" mind (1) I also felt the joy of living.

There are pleasant and painful things in life.

But if you have the energy and wisdom to live those painful things may become into pleasant things.

Saheiji, the stayer (2) like a single light illuminating Edo I think he was that kind of person.

What kind of world awaits how to move forward what to think, what to feel.

I'm looking forward to it.

I also want to be a light for those who come to see me live!!

At any rate, Ishihara Yujiro-san was cool (3) at the age of 23 he was already that cool.

I want to give (him) a chocolate. It's a bitter taste.

Well, I'm going to the theatre tomorrow to live the continuation of the stage I want to concentrate.

Tokyo and Osaka are over, but there is still more the story still has room to deepen.

Ishikirimaru as well.

There are still fights against dilemmas and paradoxes but to be able to do so many performances to be Ishikirimaru until the very end I want to do it better in order to make you want to see it again I'm going to continue doing my best.

(1) The word is 粋 (Iki) Honestly, it’s a word difficult to translate, but one of the common meanings I found was “smart”. Also, the main character was a witty person. Anyway, you can check HERE to know more about it.

(3)  Ishihara Yujiro was an actor and part of the cast of “Bakumatsu Taiyoden” movie. He played Takasugi Shinsaku, a samurai from the Choshu domain.

[STAGE PLAY ANNOUNCEMENT] SAKIYAMA TSUBASA WILL BE THE MAIN CHARACTER IN "BAKUMATSU TAIYODEN GAIDEN" STAGE PLAY!

It was announced the other day Sakiyama Tsubasa will be the main character for "Bakumatsu Taiyoden Gaiden", a stage play adaption from the movie "Bakumatsu Taiyoden" ("The Sun in the Last Days of the Shogunate") in commemoration of director Kawashima Yuzo's 100th birthday.

"Bakumatsu Taiyoden" summary from the movie originally released on July 14th, 1957

“Set in the last few years of the Shogun's rule, this period/ensemble movie depicts the lives of the young and the restless at a whorehouse. The protagonist is Saheiji, a resourceful, witty free spirit. It's 1862, 6 years before the Shogun turned his political power over to the Emperor. Penniless Saheiji splashes out at a famous Shinagawa whorehouse. He's forced to stay on at the whorehouse to repay his debt. At first Saheiji is regarded as an unwelcome guest who never leaves but it turns out he is not just a poor grifter. 

None of the whorehouse's guests, hosts, servants and attending ladies are innocent but they are pragmatic schemers. Saheiji soon endears himself to them all and solves many whorehouse disputes with his wit. But it is slowly revealed that the seemingly perfect Saheiji is suffering from tuberculosis and his future is uncertain...”

[Interview & Photos] 2.5D Actor Sakiyama Tsubasa. The goal is "Taiga Drama". A slow debut doesn't matter.

For some reason, I ended up translating the whole interview when I wanted to make a summary haha. You can find more under the cut~ Of course, keep in mind my translations are far from being great, everything is for fun.

Including his role as Ishikirimaru from the musical "Touken Ranbu", Sakiyama Tsubasa, who is active as a 2.5D actor, will release his first starring role in the 2-part movie "Kurogarasu". Although Sakiyama had a soft image so far, in this film he plays a man who runs a "problem-solving" office in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, carrying a dangerous charm. Sakiyama talked about his challenges from this work and his thoughts about a "slow start".

When the main character of the movie was decided "I was very happy", said Sakiyama smiling. "Being in a movie was a dream but also a goal and it was a responsibility to stand in the middle of it, but I was geniunely happy" he said, but with the stage being in the underground, there were a lot of preparations in advance.

"It was a world I didn't know at all. On the other hand, I thought there were many things to research. While looking at past works like "Yamikin Ushijima-kun", "Shinjuku Swan" and "Yamikin Dogs" to check things such as the atmosphere and the view of the world, "Kurogarasu" is another and completely original work, so I tried to explore how express myself there".

The main character, Kuroto, appears as a cool and mysterious man. It's different from Sakiyama's image, but he said there is a part similar to him. "The means Kuroto chooses are outrageous and he proceeds without changing the complexion. But just because he doesn't show much, it means he doesn't have a lot of things on his mind. I also have a fighting spirit and a strong sense of ambition. I just don't show it too much. So, even though Kuroto seems different from me on the outside, on the inside we are quite similar".

Sakiyama, who is gonna be 30 years old this year, started his stage acting career in 2014. Although it wasn't an early start, it's possible to see the passion, usually hidden, in his daily work as an actor.

"In the past, there was a time when I was worried about my age or have started late. But now I think it's irrelevant if there is something in my hand and I want to experience it, so if you find what you want to do, it doesn't matter when to start. However, if you spend time thinking about the role in a work, including the time to read a line, doing the same as everyone, you won't be match against those who started early. That's why I think it's natural for me to make a double effort.

"I want to challenge various roles without assuming it's a stage image" Sakiyama said. "I think starring a movie was a vision and starring a stage play is definitely a challenge”. That vision was successfully fulfilled with the movie "Kurogarasu" and the stage play "Bakumatsu Taiyoden Gaiden" in April. And as a concrete goal for the future, he stated "I woud like to appear in a Taiga Drama".

And finally, a message "For those who have seen me so far, I think you will be able to feel the freshness. I also feel myself that way. If you know me for the first time, I hope you enjoy this work that makes you think what is right, what is wrong and what is justice. And if you are interested in the 2.5D world where I have grown up, it would be nice if this work created a synergy between the stage and the movie".

“Kurogarasu Episode 1” movie release!!

Good evening!

“Kurogarasu Episode 1” movie was published on March 9th

I was allowed to make stage greetings for two days!! Thank you very much for coming!!

I’m really happy to see so many people!!

After finished watching there was a hot atmosphere and an exaltation feeling and we’ll see from now on expectations and tension both of them are great and I was more than happy with the release

If you are going to watch it stay until the post credits please enjoy it!

And to be even happier there was a standing room in Osaka I heard it was exciting I want to ride a crow and go to Osaka! (the crow’s name is Nozomi)

I thought you were really waiting for it there were harsh days but it seems like everything was for this it was good to do my best I really think that!

Including the staff everyone involved in Kurogarasu with everyone’s strengh It’s a work made from scratch.

If you were able to watch the movie and felt something even a little thing if you noticed anything as a work, it might have the meaning of being born.

I hope this work will reach as many people as possible.

The role of Kuroto He was also a person who expanded his goals beyond his imagination.

Also meeting the me I didn’t know with things I’ve never experienced before a world I hadn’t seen it yet I was able to experience them through Kuroto

From now on to the next target.

Also this week was announced I’ll be starring in the stage play “Bakumatsu Taiyoden Gaiden” There is a visual shooting. Saheiji, the stayer. This is also a completely different kind of role. Stillness and motion light and darkness I have both of them. This is a practice that is worth doing.
