Okay but the fix it writers when it’s been three, no, nearly four year after Bilbo left the lonely mountain. He saw them die. Thorin and his nephews. He knew he couldn’t stay to watch them mourn. He felt to responsible for having been knocked out earlier and now being the sole reason the line of Durin has fallen. But then those four years later, Bilbo is doing his merry finest to act like nothing had happened to crush his soul. To act like a regular hobbit around the others. He gardens and bakes and hell, he’s has a little fauntling toddling about the hobbit hole. He had a family. A boy. And then that early morning knock at breakfast. A very much alive and desperate looking King Under the Moutian and his trusted company. All alive and accounted for at his round home door. There was a lot of misunderstanding later and explaining that was gonna need done from both sides, especially with a certain tiny dwobbit playing on the ground.

I've been re-reading A Hobbit's Gamble by CQueen on ao3 for the third time now and it had me imagining what Bilbo's clothes would look like if he stayed in Erebor and became Thorin's consort. I decided to create a balance between Hobbit and Dwarvish fashion for these two outfits, one being for the outdoors and the other for indoors. That being the the jacket, waist coast and capri pants mixed with capes and belts. The colour palette also become handy in creating that balance. I mixed Hobbit's bright colours and Durin's blue, which represents his statues in the royal family (This is also Thorin's favourite part of his outfits). It is often discussed how flowers and plants are important to Hobbits and with that I added embroidery of different flowers with meanings that are compatible with Bilbo. The flowers on his head are mostly just a replacement for a crown for day to day. Please comment if I should add something, I love reading your ideas!

Been a while since I last made a fic rec list, and I recently went through all the newer bagginshield works on AO3, so I wanted to share some of my favourites! These are all amazing, please go give them a read if you haven't already! 💛 These are all completed, but if anyone is interested I might also do a list of incomplete works in progress that I'm feral about as well!
~
"Green-Handed" by lotusOkid Post-BotFA, while Thorin, Fili, and Kili are slowly recovering from their wounds, Bilbo finds himself subject to a condition that hobbits might experience at a few very particular times in their lives, under very particular circumstances, none of which apply to him. Very confused (and somewhat embarrassed) he decides to keep it a secret during this delicate time in the mountain. This goes about as well as you might expect.
~
"The Burden of Choice" by @fantasyinallforms Thorin Oakenshield is the crown prince of one of the strongest kingdoms in Middle Earth, but in the last year, the kingdom has struggled to keep its place among the ruling powers of Middle Earth. Erebor was held under vicious siege by the dragon Smaug, who terrorised the land and wiped out the nearby human settlement of Dale. The hardship forces Erebor into a difficult position, creating no other choice but for King Thror to seek alliances with other kingdoms and races through the bonds of marriage. Will Thorin see this as his duty to his kingdom or take another path entirely?
~
"No Grave Can Hold My Body Down" by @chaoticangel666 Bilbo returns to The Shire after the Battle of the Five Armies. He might be going insane though, because why does the ghost of Thorin Oakenshield keep showing up when he least expects it? Follows the events from the end of The Hobbit until the end of The Lord of the Rings.
~
"Handsome Stranger" by kriegswaffel A handsome stranger arrives at Hobbiton, both reminding and distracting Bilbo Baggins from the upcoming negotiations between a Dwarven Envoy all the way from Erebor and the official-inoffical leadership of the Shire regarding trade. As he gets more wrapped up in matters, can he find something true and lasting with someone so different - and maybe entirely different from what he expected? Or will he get his heart broken again, at long last, having hoped where there was no hope, or even only betrayal?
~
"What's In A Name" by broken_pencils A short scene that takes place post-canon, in which Bilbo and Thorin discuss the uniquely hobbit custom of family surnames. ~ "And Watch Them Grown" by @sunnyrosewritesstuff Thorin survives his battle to find Bilbo laying unconscious in the snow. Unable to carry him down, Thorin leaves him with his ring on to get help. Only he doesn’t make it very far before collapsing. Waking in the healing tents, Thorin comes to realize no one made it back up to save Bilbo! ~ "The Kitchen Thief" by @mordellestories There are pests. At first, Thorin thought one of his assistants was stealing from him. And that may have been why he was a bit harsher on them than what was deemed necessary. But one by one, the workers were replaced only for the goods to keep vanishing into thin air. It was driving him to madness. And when Thorin wasn’t at peace, everyone knew it. So, it had to be pests, right? Pixies, brownies, rats, something was pilfering his hard work and it was happening more often as time went by. ~ "The things you see in the market." by GothicMama Krelven just wants to explore the market on his day off. But instead he gets thrown for multiple loops when he sees two extremely familiar faces.

It's finally time! I present to you my latest Bagginshield fic, created in collaboration with the @thorinsspringforge! I highly encourage everyone to check out the other amazing Thorin-centric works that just dropped from the collection! The link for that is HERE.
I want to thank @lordoftherazzles for making this amazing banner for me, as well as my lovely artist @rajirani, who chose my fic out of the lineup and who made the stunning art you will find both in the fic and the banner. You have no idea how excited I am to share this with you all, and I hope you enjoy! 🥰
The Burden Of Choice (Bagginshield, 56k, E)
Summary:
Thorin Oakenshield is the crown prince of one of the strongest kingdoms in Middle Earth, but in the last year, the kingdom has struggled to keep its place among the ruling powers of the land. Erebor was held under vicious siege for over a year as the dragon Smaug terrorised the land and all but wiped out the nearby human settlement of Dale. Eventually, the dwarves were victorious, but it was at the cost of many of their own, including Thorin’s father and youngest brother. They were left with a charred and decimated land. Since then, no crops could be persuaded to grow in the dragon's desolation. With tariffs from the elves climbing higher every year, King Thror is left with little choice but to secure an alliance with another race through the bonds of marriage. Thorin plans to make a run for it the night before he is forced to marry a foreign Lord. In his attempt, he runs right into Bilbo, doing the same thing.

bagginshield plot bunny
Consort and Regent Bilbo Baggins must find a way to keep King Under the Mountain Thorin Oakenshield on the throne, while he and his heir's Kili and Fili recover from the Battle of Five Armies. A Challenge when Lord Dain of Iron Hill's cousin of Thorin is vying for the Throne as he believes his cousin won't make it through to the end of the week, Lady Dis is traveling across middle earth with the rest of the dwarrow from the Lonely Mountain. King Thranduil is demanding the White Gems of Lasgalen, saying they are rightfully his, and Bard the Bowman is somehow named King of Laketown and just wants help keeping his people alive as he hopes to reclaim his lost Kingdom of Dale. Thankfully Bilbo has the rest of the company, 10 dwarrow who are willing to do whatever is needed to keep the kingdom afloat until Thorin is back on his throne. What they don't expect is for Erebor to florish under Bilbo's rule, literally, who knew Hobbit's had Magick?

The thing about Bagginshield is… it’s just so tragic.
Samfro, Farawyn, and so many other Middle-earth couples feel like destined soulmates who cannot be kept apart by any force. Lúthien, Tuor, and Arwen even break the rules of their own race to spend eternity with the loves of their lives. And even couples parted by death, such as Thingol/Melian and Russingon, have hope for a reunion since Elves are re-embodied.
But Bilbo and Thorin…don’t. Thorin will reside in the Halls of Mandos until the end of days. Bilbo will leave Arda forever when his life ends. There is a chance that they might briefly reunite when Bilbo stops in the Halls before leaving the world, but it would just be that: brief. They can never be together forever. And not only that…fate only unfolds the way it should because Bilbo loses Thorin. If Thorin had lived, Bilbo just might’ve stayed in Erebor, meaning Frodo would’ve had nobody to adopt him from his apparently sad life in Brandy Hall as an orphan. The Ring would not have come to Frodo, and he would never have met Sam, since Sam lived far away from Buckland in Hobbiton. Bilbo had to return to the Shire for the world to be saved, and the only way to ensure that was the loss of Thorin. As a result, Bilbo spends 80 years remembering a love he only knew and had for 1 year.
And yet…. and yet….
A good many of the aforementioned couples achieve great things together and contribute to the shaping of the fate of the world. These unions have wide ripple effects: Eärendil & Elwing save Middle-Earth in the First Age, Frodo & Sam save it in the Third Age, etc. The world is changed for the better as a direct result of these couples having met.
And the same actually applies to Thorin & Bilbo. Because they met, Bilbo had Thorin’s mithril shirt, and he gave it to Frodo, and it saved Frodo’s life twice and enabled the Quest of the Ring to succeed. Middle-Earth’s fate is indeed affected by that hobbit and dwarf having met.
But unlike pretty much every other couple who made such a contribution, they must be separated for all time. They cannot receive that ultimate reward of eternal togetherness.
The only Tolkien couple as tragic as this…if not more so…that also truly and properly aligns with the term “star crossed lovers”…is Aegnor & Andreth, which…don’t even get me started on them.

Ghelekul: Treasure of all treasures
First fanfic (ever, actually) for the Year of Bagginshield organized by @acorns-and-oakleaves
Inspired by the Rebel Prompt

Consort Bilbo Baggins

Short & Sweet
Ghelekul: Treasure of all treasures - midnight_blu3 - The Hobbit - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]
Summary:
With a sudden collapse in the mines of Iron Hills, Thorin sets into a short travel to his cousin’s domain to help. With their marriage celebrations coming in just a few months, Bilbo has to stay in Erabor to organize everything. Cue to 3 weeks of pure torture of Thorin missing his husband and making this everyone’s problem. Or in which Royal Consort Bilbo pretends to steal from Thorin just to see him.
A small preview:
Thorin sees himself coming back to his tend by himself. He got a habit of looking into the horizon, waiting for Bilbo’s crow. The Iron Hills are not that far from the Misty Mountains, so they have been exchanging letters ever since Thorin left Erebor. No crow in sight, however. It has been a few days, and no word from Bilbo yet. Bilbo is most likely busy trying to organize their wedding birthday party. Their anniversary was coming in just a few months and there was much to do – people to invite, menus to decide, clothes to choose. The kinds of activity that would bore Thorin to early death, but that are the most fun hobbies for a gentlehobbit such as Bilbo. Thorin enters his tent with a small smile on his lips. When they first got married, one of Bilbo’s major issues was his anxiety about being a decent consort. 7 years later and Middle Earth has never seen a more graceful and clever consort. Bilbo might have been raised to be a gentlehobbit, but the crown suits him well. His quick thinking and, according to Bilbo himself, his outstanding experience dealing with unbearable family members, made him perfect for the more social part of ruling. Bilbo is able not only to remember the names of every single important ruler of Middle Earth but also their offspring and little details about them. Because of his flawless job, Erebor has strong allies and good relations with all neighbor kingdoms. The little hobbit has enchanted even the elves, to the point that he has been given a Elven name, Táralóm, the hidden hero – an honor that very few have ever received. Bilbo always had some self esteem issues, especially before the mission to reclaim Erebor. So it has been Thorin’s greatest honor to see his little love to bloom into a confident, graceful leader. Thorin can’t help but scowl. He misses his husband.

Thinking about this lyric from a song, "I'm better as a memory than as your man."
I can really picture it for Bagginshield, especially in the healing tents after the battle of the five armies. I think it works well as a line coming from Thorin, perhaps when he wakes up after Ravenhill and Bilbo is like don't you dare! You are not going to decide for me if you are a better memory than a romantic partner. I expect all the courtship after you have recovered or so help me, Mahal will not save you from my wrath. So of course Thorin has to recover.
Also I can see it working really well for Johnlock, perhaps right before Reichenbach, coming from Sherlock. I'm not sure how John would respond. I can see multiple options like no way, no matter how frustrated I can get at you I love you and then alternate John gets to help/no reichenbach at all or much more angsty of John is shocked because they don't acknowledge feelings and then the whole things happens and John is left with that memory until he sees Sherlock again and he assures Sherlock that he is much better as his man than a memory.
Any opinions on either pairing? Who do you think would use the line? Any other pairings you think it would work for?
*Asks are sent for fun, no pressure to answer.
Oooo interesting line and interesting concept! I can’t speak much on BBC Sherlock as I didn’t particularly like the show and don’t remember much about it now, but Bagginshield I can absolutely jump on!
Thorin goes into BOTFA expecting to die. It’s essentially movie!canon, just looking at his lack of armor and recklessness in fighting. He hates risking anyone else, but sacrificing himself to take out Azog is not just acceptable, it’s preferable.
Honestly, hard to blame him. He’s just had a violent and disturbing week-long mental illness episode which would be bad enough on its own, but he’s king, and his personal problems are the whole kingdom’s problems. Trying to kill a friend in private is already bad enough, doing it in front of several thousand people would be excruciating to unravel (and not just politically but emotionally, especially since Thorin seems to be a naturally private person). And denying aid to a displaced/homeless, starving people? Thorin has become everything he’s hated: his gold-mad grandfather and the petty neighboring elf king.
Balin says in the movie that “Thorin Oakenshield will pass into legend,” and that’s undeniably true even after his mistakes. He still led the quest to successful completion despite any personal failures at the finish line. Killing Azog cements his legacy as a heroic king, if a flawed one, and dying afterward softens his mistakes in public memory.
In an AU where Thorin lives, he would realize that dying was the easy way out that was denied to him. Personally I think dwarves would have a social taboo against suicide, so if Thorin didn’t die honorably in battle, he’s basically doomed to a personal living hell of having to face and rectify his many grievous mistakes of the past few days. He would LOVE to be a memory and not a man, but he’s too honorable to back down from facing his mistakes now that he lives.
I do love fics that explore this mindset, and i agree, Bilbo staying (and stubbornly loving and forgiving him) would probably help a lot. Thorin at his core is a very driven person, and even without his gold-sick problems, I think he’d have a hard time adjusting to peaceful rule in Erebor. There’s no more desperate problems to solve, no grave dangers to face, no impossible quests to undertake. He’s a trauma survivor (in SO many ways oh my god that poor man) who finally has a safe and stable environment, and like many traumatized people who get that transition, I think he’d have an absolute breakdown trying to adjust and trust his new life.
All this to say having reconciliations and a courtship to drive him would probably be very helpful during this tumultuous period of Thorin’s life. And I’m always a fan of Bilbo angrily caring for people - “You will live and you will live happily, Thorin Oakenshield, or so help me Yavanna I’ll- I’ll never give you a moment’s peace, not even in your dwarven afterlife!” (Which is not an effective threat, Bilbo, he’d love to have you there).
And yes, choice comes into this as well. Lots of post-BOTFA fics deal with this and I love it every time. Thorin tries to protect Bilbo but in doing so takes away his free will, and Bilbo is rightfully angry about it! He should get to decide if being near (or courting) Thorin is a risk he wants to take, if the grievances against him are things he wants to forgive. Once Thorin gets that through his thick skull then I think they can be very happy together :)
Overall, I think that’s a great line for that scenario! I like to believe a surviving Thorin eventually accepts he can have a living, changing future (bc I don’t think he realizes Erebor itself can be more than a memory, either, not until the very end of the quest) and be a man instead of a memory.
Enough out of me, thanks for letting me rant on about this!

More Bagginshield treats! Thank you @shantismurf for your request. I hope this meets your expectations. 🥰
Flower Crowns
Pairing: Bagginshield
Type of Treat: Sweet, Romantic Pining
Word Count: 717
“Are you sure about this, Cousin?” Siggy asked Bilbo, looking at their dwarven guest uncertainly. “He’s already turned down four flower crowns tonight. I don’t think he wants to be courted by a hobbit.”
Bilbo gripped the crown in his hand just a little bit tighter. He’s had the biggest crush on Prince Thorin, ever since he showed up at their grandparents’ smial to begin negotiations between Erebor and the Shire on behalf of the Ered Luin community. As the Baggins of Bag End, it had been necessary for Bilbo to attend the meetings, and he learned that Thorin was fair and just. He was eloquent, straight to the point, and he was also unfairly attractive with his dark curl locks and his piercing blue eyes. An assessment his fellow hobbits seemed to agree on as the doe-eyed looks and presentations of flowers seemed to suggest.
However, Bilbo was feeling unusually confident that with him it would be different. Perhaps it was just wishful thinking, but he thought they shared a moment the other day during their tea break. When Bilbo asked about Thorin’s travels, his Took side hung onto his every word, and Thorin promised to take Bilbo if he ever felt so inclined. It could just be a polite offer with no real meaning, but there was a look in Thorin’s eyes. A look that he kept pinning Bilbo with that made something warm and fuzzy settle in his bones.
Even now, Thorin would glance over at Bilbo from where he was sharing drinks with some of Bilbo’s Brandybuck relatives, and he would pin him with that same look. Bilbo took a deep breath.
“I have to try.” He declared to Siggy.
His cousin clapped him hard on the shoulder. “How unusually Took of you, Bilbo. I’m so proud! You go get that dwarven prince of yours!”
Bilbo gave him a smirk back, thankful for the pep talk as the steeled his courage and took a step forward. Just one more step. Just one more step. Bilbo continued his mantra until he was in front of Thorin who had excused himself to meet Bilbo halfway. Bilbo found himself tongue tied under those gorgeous blue eyes trying to recall the exact reason he came over here in the first place.
“It seems we meet again, Master Baggins.” Thorin spoke, his voice smooth and low pitched.
It was enough to send Bilbo’s knees knocking. He cleared his throat before extending his hands and the subsequent flower crown forward.
“Prince Thorin, I made you this crown in the hopes that you will accept my suit.”
Bilbo had cast his eyes downward, waiting for the inevitable decline only to receive no answer. Hesitantly, Bilbo raised his eyes again, only to find Thorin with a hand to his chin, regarding him with mock contemplation.
“I must confess I’ve turned down a few of these tonight, but I don’t quite know the full extent of the custom. Would you explain your craft to me, Master Baggins?”
Bilbo nodded before turning his eyes back to this creation.
“In the Shire, we court with flowers. A flower crown is made with the flowers or plants we recognize as being strengths of the other. Basically, we say ‘we know you well and want to crown you as such’.”
“So, your acorns and oak leaves say that I am ‘Oakenshield’. It’s more than what I have been acknowledged as so far, but does it mean you know me?” Thorin continued to tease.
Finally, feeling brave enough to look Thorin in the eye, Bilbo nodded. “Yes, because while that was the surface meaning I was going for, oaks have other meanings: honesty, strength, justice, and longevity in your rule. These are the things I have noticed about you, Thorin Oakenshield.”
For a moment, the smile slipped from his face and Thorin just stared at him. Bilbo started to worry that maybe he had made a mistake, and he didn’t know Thorin as well as he thought he did. The crown was plucked gently from his hands, and placed upon Thorin’s brow. Bilbo’s mouth dropped in awe at actually receiving this wondrous gift. Thorin leaned in and kissed him before Bilbo could do anything more embarrassing than that.
“It’s a good start. Let’s build on it together.”

Emoji ask game
I will answer them all here and tag who asked, thank you all, this is so much fun 🧡
@fishing4stars 🍓- So, my then 11 year old watched The Hobbit Trilogy with me for the first time. He elgit cried when "Bilbo's boyfriend" died, he was so unhappy. So i told him a story about how it was hard, but Bilbo and Thorin sorted it all out and now live happily in Erebor. I then wrote it down, making it a but more grown up and my first fic (Stop me fading) was written not quiet a year ago. So thank you Mr 11 lol. ⬜ - (cant find the right emoji for describing your latest fic so - 🐕‍🦺🐩🐕🥰🐾 🎨 - ngl, theres so much amazing art, it changes, but right now its this. The art, the expression, the colours and the glasses! Be still my heart 🥰 @niennawept 🕯 - is there a minus? -5 milion. Not only do i not notice a lot of mistakes, neither dies the editing app I pay for so I have to also run it through a TTS programme (its a new thing Im doing and its really good for me), but I also often tend to type in Romani chib. It has NO grammatic rules, its all sounds and noise and is a nightmare to translate 🙈 🌿 - ngl, as someone with 61 wips on the go, its not something I deal with often, but if im not sure what to write, I will do smaller things like micro fics and FlashFictionFriday. They are supposed to be small so no extra pressure for complicted wips, FFF are less then 1000 words so are great to get you going again imo. @thatfancygirlinblack 🥤 - There are way to many writers I adore, both Bagginshield and Wolfstar, so instead I'm going to link my all time comfort fic. It's a Wolfstar muggle Au but it hits all the right spots for me, plus its an orphan account so Im not picking someone over others lol. An Infinite Ocean 🍅 - concrit for myself - stop writing in bloody chib. The amount of times Bilbo and Sirius say "wanna, ganna, canna," as if they would and i dont even notice 🙈 ☁ - So, my usernaem is a childhood nickname my dad gave me. He has been gone nearly 10 years ad no one else evr called me it. Now I have lots of friends who do and it makes my heart happy each time <3 🔪 - currently, id sat the reproductive and queer behav iour of aimals, all sorts of animals. I have plans for so many animal Aus and Ive bee researching their behaviour with same sex partners lol.

Hi guys!
So, I hear it's Fanfic Writers' Appreciation Day, and as someone who has enjoyed a LOT of Bagginshield fanfiction this year, I thought it would be nice to share some recommendations!
These are just a few of my personal favourites, feel free to share your own!
If I could Give My Breath Away (I Would) by StupidFatPenguin
Thorin loses his memory and quite forgets that the hobbit by his bedside whom he wishes to court and marry is already his husband. Everyone else find this hilarious.
Safe and Distant by Lindzzz
Bilbo never bothers denying that he is a slight, little bit, probably infatuated with Thorin. It’s not something that bothers him. Really. He’s pretty sure that everyone very likely has a little flutter in their chest for the dwarf. He’s something grand and unattainable. And it’s really much safer if it stays that way.
Travelling Songs to Fall In Love To by galehautstomb
When Thorin started to sing, Bilbo had to sit down. It was all he could do not to put his head in his hands. He knew at that moment, that he would be going on this journey, but he was not brave enough yet to voice it.
Unspoken Choice by snarkymonkey
In the wake of war and all else, Bilbo decides he needs to do something for Thorin that isn't related to dragons or gold or anything else. Nothing simpler than the offer of a trim, right?
Best To Move Forward by sharkbait33
“Thorin,” he greeted, a small smile forming on his lips. Thorin did not smile, though his expression softened just a bit. “Master Baggins.” The professionalism made Bilbo flinch, his expression falling, and the hobbit dropped his gaze to the floor. Though he should have expected this, should not have such heartache faced with the truth, he had been quite hopeful. “Bilbo.” The dwarf’s tone surprised him, so quiet and gentle, if that was even possible. Two large hands came into view, one cradling Bilbo’s cheek, the other finding a place beneath his chin, using two fingers to tilt his face up so their eyes met. “Bilbo,” Thorin repeated, and this time there was a sad smile gracing his features, small, but still there. “I am truly, very sorry for all the hurt I have caused you.”
As Is The Custom by ever_yours
After everything, Bilbo becomes an integral part of castle workings—and honestly, there’s not much waiting for him back at the Shire. So he stays, and decides to learn more about dwarrow culture while he’s at it. As it turns out, dwarf kings are significantly more affectionate than he’d expect...
A Moment When by elementalist
All those precious moments when a look, a touch, a smile, all come crashing together into a single, inescapable truth.
Call You Home by northerntrash
In which the Company are entirely too nosy about matters that are supposed to be a secret, and Bilbo learns that being concerned about propriety is overrated when you could be making friends instead.
The Riven Crown by BeautifulFiction
‘We may have won the battle, but I fear the war with winter is just beginning.’ The aftermath of war is no laughing matter. Those who died must be honoured, those who are wounded must be healed, and those who remain need food and clothing, peace and sanctuary. With Thorin's life hanging in the balance, it is up to Bilbo and the rest of the Company to rule the rag-tag remnants of Erebor in his place.
I Love You Most (but I'm not worthy) by rowanguerrin
Something desperate and keening bade him look once more at the Thief— at Bilbo— and, before he could even think of doing anything else, his eyes shifted to the body pinned down before him. Bilbo looked up at him with wide, wide eyes, his lips parted as he breathed heavily, afraid and— And sad, so so sad, as if it were not his body Thorin was about to throw over the ramparts but his heart instead.
Eye for Eye and Tooth for Tooth by Chrononautical
Bilbo is kidnapped by dwarves looking to hurt the king. Though he manages to escape, he is badly injured and no longer feels safe in Erebor. Thorin, furious at the harm done to his burglar, seeks vengeance. Unfortunately, all he really wants is to find a way to make Bilbo comfortable at his side once again, and that is more difficult.
The Road Delivered Us Home by Keelywolfe
In the years since Bilbo left Erebor, he has lost his respectability, gained a nephew, and gotten on with life at Bag End. He'd left aside adventure for the comforts and peace of his little Hobbit hole, and for the love of a child who needed him. Though perhaps, adventures can yet find him.
A Passion For Mushrooms by Chrononautical
There are many trials for a hobbit attempting to make a life among dwarves. A hobbit wants a garden. A hobbit wants to eat regular meals. A hobbit wants friends, good books, and comfortable chairs. Bilbo does his best to carve out a little hobbit life for himself in the mountain. If only there were not one final obstacle. For a hobbit heart wants love, and among dwarves that is a sticky subject.
Something Blue by lapin
Thorin marries Bilbo after the Battle of Five Armies, a marriage of convenience, not love. Slowly, they must come to make the best of it, Bilbo resolves. After all, he's a Hobbit. They make the best of things.
Cold Sheets by plotweaver
Thorin is angry when Bilbo's new duties as Master of Agriculture for Erebor make him bring his work home.
Dragonhearted by LordOfTheRazzles
The grandson of a greedy king and his dwarvish companions fall under the curse of literal dragon sickness - at least for Thorin. Bestowed by Smaug the Terrible, an enchanter whose other form is also that of a dragon, the vilest of fire drakes from the north, is seeking riches at the end of a hard trial for the prince of Erebor. The decades roll by and the curse shows no sign of lifting, for Thorin was tasked with proving that his heart was worth saving and that he would not be corrupted by gold lust like his grandfather. All seems bleak until the arrival of one quirky little hobbit of the Shire with his mother’s stubborn streak and his father’s gentility. Bilbo Baggins, a prisoner of this draconic beast, soon begins to show Thorin just what a heart worth saving feels like.
The Letter by objectlesson
Once Bilbo arrives in the haunted stillness of Bag End, his chest aches to realize the house does not feel like a home anymore. He at first chalks it up to having been empty: to a year of disuse, to odd scents filtering their way in and settling like cobwebs in the absence of his usual routine, tea and baking and the drying of herbs. Perhaps, once he begins these things again, it will not feel so cavernous, so lonely, so strangely and painfully bare, like a tree stripped of its leaves come winter. But weeks pass, and nothing changes. So maybe it’s not the emptiness, but the fact (which he is trying his very hardest to dutifully ignore) that he left his heart behind to crystalize in the caverns of the Lonely Mountain.
The Things You See In The Market by GothicMama
Krelven just wants to explore the market on his day off. But instead he gets thrown for multiple loops when he sees two extremely familiar faces.
You Should Be Safe With Me by fantasyinallforms

Each certain the other wants nothing to do with them after the betrayals they've committed. However, trapped by a cave-in while exploring the lower halls, Thorin and Bilbo are suddenly, and unavoidably thrown together and slowly they begin to sort things out.

Alright, my friend, have some lazy kisses. I hope you like it! ❤️❤️
___
Thorin dragged himself in from the porch. He had spent most of the day marking things off his honey-do list from Bilbo. Things that his fastidious hobbit was not able to take care of himself. So far, he had changed out the hinges on the back door, fixed Bilbo’s wheelbarrow, and repaired the legs on the back garden table. He wiped the sweat off his face and felt his shirt clinging to him. It was a hot and humid day, which meant he would find his lovely little hobbit exactly where he had left him, curled into the corner of the couch when he went inside.
They had lived at Bag End for over ten years now, and that was after nearly 30 years of ruling Erebor side by side. But he did not want to watch his beloved age in the darkness of a mountain, so he passed his crown to Fili and retired. This was a quiet lazy life but a worthwhile one.
Bilbo was indeed on the couch. His book had fallen out of his hand, and his glasses slid down his nose. Bilbo had become a deep sleeper. He supposed years of living with dwarves did that to a person. He was able to move him into a more comfortable position, remove his glasses, and set them on the tea table without him waking. He ran his hand through his husband's graying curls. No less beautiful than the gold they had once been. He looked back at the list Bilbo had made for him. There was still a lot on it, but it could wait. He sat down on the couch and pulled Bilbo into his lap marveling at how cute he looked curled up into him. He kissed him soundly and sweetly. It was a sort of consistent lazy affection. His Bilbo sturred just long enough to get comfortable on his lap before falling asleep once again.
Chores can wait for some other day.

Bagginsheild Fics
A Shot in the Dark
Rated: T. Words: 213k. By: Silver_pup
When he opens his eyes again, he finds himself in his old bed in his old home in his old body. Is this death? Or a trick of magic? Either way, Bilbo recognizes a second chance when he sees one, and this time his adventure with Thorin is going to go a bit differently.
One of These Days (Again and Again)
Rated: G. Words: 13k. By: authoressjean
By a curse or a blessing from the Valar, Bilbo finds himself repeating the same horrific day of war outside of Erebor again and again. His repeats are always triggered when someone from the company falls. He suffers days and days on his own before the others begin to repeat the day with him. One would think that with the whole company, an elf king, and a bowman all knowing what was to come, Bilbo would have an easier time getting them all through the day alive. One would think that, wouldn't they.
The Riven Crown
Rated: E. Words: 254k. By: BeautifulFiction
The aftermath of war is no laughing matter. Those who died must be honoured, those who are wounded must be healed, and those who remain need food and clothing, peace and sanctuary. With Thorin's life hanging in the balance, it is up to Bilbo and the rest of the Company to rule the rag-tag remnants of Erebor in his place. Then there is the matter of the gold... Can Bilbo save both king and kingdom, or is Erebor destined to fall deeper into ruin?
A King Under the Hill
Rated: T. Words: 14k. By: mEEtyouinheLL
A Dwarven caravan stops in the Shire on their way to the Blue Mountains, and while Bilbo is curious to meet these strange people and learn a bit about their secretive customs he never expected to get caught up in their political and personal lives.
An Unexpected Addition
Rated: T. Words: 88.9k. By: karategal
All of the dwarves survive the Battle of the Five Armies, but Bilbo must return to the Shire to sort out his old life and make way for a new one in Erebor. Over one year later, Bilbo comes back to the Lonely Mountain with a recently orphaned Frodo. King Thorin isn't quite sure what to make of this new, tiny addition to his Company.
Sansûkh
Rated: T. Words: 577k. By: determamfidd
I think we all know this, but if not:
(Bagginshield, Gimli/Legolas) In which recovery takes time, the dead members of the Company take to watching Gimli as though he’s a soap opera, the living struggle with being left behind, Legolas is confused, Khuzdul is abused, and Thorin is four feet and ten inches of guilt and anger.
Happy Hobbit Holiday - The Only Thing
Rated: T. Words: 32k. By: helisol
A story in which neither Bilbo nor Thorin can fully explain what they want, but at least they can show it through their actions.
A Fair Wind Homeward
Rated: M. Words: 90k. By: Daisy_May
‘You stupid, stubborn dwarf!’ Bilbo bellowed. ‘I saved your arse from being warg-food, Oakenshield, so show some bloody appreciation.’
The Valar send Bilbo and Thorin back in time to fix things, but the afterlife changes people considerably.
Some folk are in for a few surprises.
A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes
Rated: G. Words: 64k. By: diemarysues
Bilbo Baggins has been plagued with dreams for some months, always filled with the same stranger: big hands, strong arms, dark hair. It seems a mystery until he figures that it is a Dwarf, though this only narrows down his search to every Dwarf in Erebor.
When he overhears mention of a special party in the Mountain he wishes briefly that he can attend. But that's ridiculous. He's a Hobbit, not a Dwarf.
Turns out that's not a problem when magic is involved.
An Expected Journey
Rated: E. Words: 294k. By: MarieJaquelyn
“I just wish…”
“What do you wish?”
“I wish I could have changed it all.”
For years Bilbo has written about his adventures and told stories about his dealings with dwarves and dragons. To most it seemed like fanciful nonsense but to Bilbo it was all very real. A weight followed him home from his travels, one called regret. Now in his final moments Bilbo has a choice to make – go quietly into death’s embrace or go back again and face all the fear and pain for the chance to make things right?
Of course, change is a fickle thing and not everything can be done again as Bilbo is about to find out. In the end, it may not only be salvation that he’s fighting for.
The dangers of parent meeting
Rated: T. Words: 15k. By: Alx_GG
“What do you mean you are not scared?” Pippin said to Sam
“Why should I be? One of them is a cook and the other is a writer, Frodo describes them as very nice” Sam said
“That is just one parent, Bilbo Baggins, you are missing the other parent” Merry said
Or were Sam is going to meet his boyfriend's parents but he doesn't truly understand the importance, or danger, until Merry and Pippin enlighten him
Between Vices and Virtues
Rated: G. Words: 40k. By: LordOfTheRazzles
King Thorin Durinson has only held the throne for a few months after the death of his greedy predecessor. When Shire Inquiry journalist Bilbo Baggins is brought in to observe a meeting of powers, it's quickly made apparent that Thorin's sheltered and strict lifestyle has him completely disconnected from those he rules, as well as his family. It's up to Bilbo to show Thorin that the world is worth exploring and that not everything is as it seems.
Yavanna’s Whisper
Rated: not rated. Words: 109k. By: RavenShira
When he opened the door of his smial and looked at the individual standing on his steps, for the first time in his life Bilbo could hear the voice. Yavanna was singing to him, only a few lines but it was enough. This was his long awaited mate.
It took a few more days for Bilbo to realize what Yavanna was singing to him was not the happy ending like it had been for his parents.
His mate was fated to die.
...
Not on his watch!
Or: The one where Thorin is oblivious and Bilbo's plans mostly have one major fault: He forgot to include himself in them.
Of Palaces and Ruins
Rated: E. Words: 117k. By: livelongandgetiton
Slow burn. Bilbo Baggins is a half-baked archaeologist who has put his dreams of adventure on hold to teach secondary school. Thorin is the grandson of a politically powerful figure in the historically rich and deeply isolationist country of Erebor.
When he flees conflict and corruption in Erebor to settle in London, he finds his hands full with two young boys. Gandalf meddles, and Bilbo signs on as a personal tutor for the boys in hopes of getting a foot in the door to archaeological work in Erebor. He soon discovers that Thorin is a tough nut to crack.
As Bilbo takes care of the boys he and Thorin grow closer, and secrets about not just the brooding stranger, but the mysterious country and politics of Erebor begin to unravel. It turns out that Bilbo isn't leaving adventure behind, after all.
