jegulus is more fun for me when james is at least a little bit of the cocky asshole he is in canon. i think him being a tad mean-spirited would make him much more relatable to regulus. he’s a prankster! he’s puck! i think he trusts his own interpretations of how others feel more than their own words. he’s a hopeless romantic and he’s writing a script for the love confession before the convo even happens. so good thing regulus is a grade-A bullshit detector and can knock james off balance in an instant. he’s goofy and charming but he will also push and push until he gets what he wants from you. and this would of course work on regulus (attention starved), but i truly believe it would piss lily off soooo bad. there is an element of performance to his behavior. he is always doing it for the studio audience. he’s throwing out cliché lines like he’s a romcom lead. he knows he’s hot. he does that thing where he lifts his shirt up to wipe his forehead and show off his abs. it’s the guy you want to hate but also begrudgingly respect in high school, and then could actually become friends with once you’re out. he’s a jock, yknow? that’s Sir Robin of Loxley. he’s never thinking about the power differential between him and severus, he sees himself as the knight in shining armor saving lily. insane levels of self-righteousness. this is why jegulus is the type of couple to have a big blowout fight and “go on a break” every couple of months, but ultimately be together forever. it’s what james wants— a relationship where they can break up and make up a thousand times and never doubt their love for each other. he lives for the dramaaa

Halfblood, to me, sounds much like "bastard" in our real world: at these days, we use it as a synonim for arse or jerk but back in time it was a complex social position; a bastard could have power and honors, but his illegitimate nature shadowed his name, hi sdestiny, his nature in front of those who were his peers and yet disdained him. Someone calling himself bastard sounds a very passive-aggressive, sardonic one, someone who likes to stress on a characteristic that other might despise or dislike - especially within Slytherin's house walls. I wouldn't say it had to be with loving Lily, rather enjoiying his own social misery and revelling in it with false self-deprecation and real pride, one of the distinctive sins I would associate with Snape. I do love him, but I'd say he was simply being edgy as he naturally was. I also sense a certain desire for social rrevenge and a tad of spurn against other purer-blooded, wealthier pupils yet less endowed than he was. Napoleon's biografy is much similar: despite his genius and noble blood, he was poor and regarded as of lesser nobility by lofty french aristocrats at Brienne's military college, and was well known to act flippantly, in a edgy manner, staying alone and being sarcastic and unnecessarely bitter towards everyone.

On a side note, I absolutely adore how the manga portrays these (Riddle's, Leona's, and Azul's) mental breakdowns. They're not cute or pretty; they're exceptionally ugly and raw and volatile. It captures the energy very well!!

BTW "destigmatizing mental illness" doesn't just mean being tolerant when someone says they have a psychiatric diagnosis or go to therapy, it also means investigating how your own view of "evil" may overlap with the signs of madness.

this is because the mainstream idea of what a "bad person" looks like is heavily influenced by sanism, thus most people's perception of what makes someone bad is literally just them being mentally disabled.

to support the crazy, you must accept that grandiosity, delusionality, attention-seeking, rage, homicidal ideation, and many similar experiences are not inherently dangerous. likewise, you must also understand that love and empathy are not the ultimate goods that everyone makes them out to be.

madness can easily be an abundance of the former and a lack of the latter, not just the quiet insecurity that most people reference when they talk about "mental health."

ultimately, the world will never be a truly safe place until it's a widely acknowledged fact that there's no such thing as villainous cognition or emotionality; prejudice is the source of all evil, not abnormality.
