My norse explorers warband for the FLGS's upcoming mordheim campaign, plus some extras for the shieldmaiden saga warband I'm doing. Also got some more matching dogs just waiting on basing, and possibly a different werewolf. Actually finished everything but the maidens a few years back and just broke it out to fill out the band. Painted on matte varnish as they're metal and likely to see table, but think I used a bit much, very plasticy.

An actual question which is pretty popular in the Splatoon fandom, how do you think lings wash themselves? Keep themselves clean. Canonically it is stated that water affects them.

Well I actually think I got a pretty good idea of this one !

I've made a little illustrated guide which pretty much summarizes it all, but here is my thought process beneath it anyways. (Long post buckle up)

So, while it's true that in my mind their ink is already taking care of most of their dirt, one can only swim into their own body fluids before it starts to reek. Especially while being a(n ink)fish. Besides, enemy ink inevitably creates irritations if not properly cleaned off at least once or twice a day. (Off The Hook advises to clean your tentacles thoroughly after a match canonically.)

Now about the water issue, the main thing to keep in mind is that it's mentioned it dissolves Inkfish, sure, but only if they are submerged in it (because ink is less dense that water). So I think that they can take water drops, although it's also mentioned (in a game dev interview) that their skin actually breaks really easily.

But they CAN clean themselves nevertheless ; they just have to follow a few rules.

Absolutely NO BATHS.

Showers only, but put on the lightest drop setting, to the point the water feels more like drizzle (the type of rain they endure the best), just enough to get them moist and allow them to get themselves clean.

(There are specially designed shower heads on the marketplace for that, although it's the norm to have a shower with multiple options. It's recommended to always test the shower when looking for a new place, and use a portable spawner for the first times to be extra secure. Also, check your water pressure before going for a shower.)

Be gentle with your skin and tentacles while cleaning. Use foamy soaps, preferably, and soft sponges. If you're too rough, you might break the skin.

Only run the water to get yourself moisturized, then to wash the soaps. Not any more than needed.

At any time, if it starts to sting, or you feel weak, cut the water and take a break. Listen to your body.

If you don't have the time to take a shower, if you're not feeling like it or simply don't have a shower, there are always specialized body wipes available anywhere in stores. Fitting different kinds of skins & tentacles, with various perfumes, they are ideal to be used between Turf Wars or for a quick groom on the go. You can even clean yourself integraly this way if you wish, but please if you must do that in public, do so in Swim Form. Be decent.

(However, keep in mind the body wipes may be somewhat cheap and required to be at least recyclable, and also a huge market/job source, they still represent a budget, and important waste. Avoid resorting to these only. Water is in most places paid for by the community.)

In any way, do not neglect your hygiene. Else you may develop irritations, itching, dry & crusty tentacles (especially in choppy tentacuts), infections if nontreated injuries, and of course bad odor, which gets pretty bad as you count as a fish. All of these can get you mocked of and ostracized, as Freshness comes from having your turf and yourself figured out and taken well care of (we like to show that off), and unlike you may think- YOUR PEERS NOTICE.

And, of course, always brush your beak and scrub your tongue at least twice a day. Bad hygiene within the beak is the least tolerable, squiddos <3

And so yeah, those are their golden rules when it comes to hygiene. As you can see, I might have gotten a little overboard with it, but I wanted to make it feel like a legit cleaning guide, as I suspect that's something that is taught thoroughly to young Inkfish.

They have various illustrated child books/notices about cleaning safety, and probably have at least one mandatory class about that when they're in elementary school or younger. Being fresh 'n shiny is pretty important, and they are taught to take care of their turf/living space and of themselves, because they need that so they can then properly show off. So they are taught how to do it properly and safely early on, and they're not kidding about that.

I mean in a social system where the store managers can straight up refuse to serve you if you're deemed not fresh enough, you've got to be a little serious when it comes to your personal figure.

Little Agent 4 Headcanons

Note: Finding any official art/render of any of the masc agents is near impossible, so sorry for the inconsistency. Also Agent 4 is referred to using They/Them pronouns so that no matter how you see them (for example: masc presenting verses fem presenting) these headcanons can still be visualized according to how you perceive them visually.

Four typically doesn’t regress as old as Eight or as young as (Captain) Three. They sit about 4-6 most days but regress way younger on very bad ones

Their primary caregiver is Marie. It took Four a while to gain the courage to tell the older squid about their regression. It was a huge relief when she told them they weren’t the first agent to regress (and they certainly weren’t the last one either)

They started regressing not too long after they beat Octavio. As everything settled down, the reality of what they just went through hit them all at once. Four initially assumed the fuzziness in their head was just shock until they ended up regressing for the first time after playing rainmaker. Seeing the weapon caused them to have vivid flashes of the battle against Octavio

In spite of Four’s energy and seemingly confident personality, they’re extremely prone to separation anxiety. The idea of being left behind frightens them to no end, even more so while they’re regressed. Due to this they refuse to be left alone in any capacity and become very clingy. The younger they’ve regressed the clingier they are

Nap time is always an argument with them. Four despises naps and will fight to the ends of the earth to avoid sleeping, no matter how much they need it. The most reliable method to get this squiddo to sleep is for their caregiver to nap with them (Marie doesn’t mind and enjoys using naptime as an excuse to take a break from her work)

Very talkative little one. Four will chat excitedly about whatever they’re doing, whether it be playing with their toys or colouring. On the rare occasion that Four can only babble, they will still continue to chatter despite not being coherent

Four has a favourite sippy cup and they refuse to drink anything unless it’s in that cup. The cup is a light pink with pictures of shrimp playing in a forest of kelp

It had been a complete accident that Four started calling Marie, momma while regressing. A simple slip of the tongue that they profusely apologized for but Marie’s reassurance that she didn’t mind being their momma caused it to stick. They eventually set it as Marie’s contact name in their phone

On days that Marie is too busy to look after Four, Callie or Eight normally take up the job of babysitting. Four likes it when Callie babysits because she has many fun games and activities planned but Eight has better cuddles and makes good snacks

If Four had to pick a favourite toy it would be their race cars. They adore winding them back and watching them zoom down the hallway or along whatever race track they’ve set up for it with random household items

November Mini Challenge 9/30

Is Vampire, from Bad Squiddo Games.

Semi-Orktober: Most of these were completed just before the move, but not photographed.

First, we have the pseudo-Istari, because they're just Reaper minis, but there's certainly a resemblance, even ignoring my paintjob. Mostly, I used these as color-tests for the actual miniatures. White remains difficult to paint, but I think actual Saruman was much improved by my suffering and learning on this one. Pseudogandalf was my first attempt at object-sourced lighting; definitely going to have to make further attempts. I don't have an actual Radagast mini, so this one was just for fun.

The start of my Dead of Dunharrow: the king, three riders and dismounts, and two can either be heralds or bannermen, depending on the needs of the list. The official minis are fine, but I saw these from Fireforge Games, and wanted these distinctly Celtic ones, if only because I see a lot of parallels between the locals of the Westlands (Dunharrow, Dunland) and the early Britons. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes did not fill a empty land, and neither did the Numenoreans. I went with blue to tie into the usual woad-wearing (as paint and dyes), and also to echo the blue-and-white of the Fiefdoms, and the dark-blue/black and white of Minas Tirith.

A small unit of Rohirrim fyrdmen - they can be fielded as Rohan Warriors with throwing spears, but they're meant to be part of the Westmark fyrd: ten regulars and two men from Erkenbrand's household (with banner and horn, and swords and armour). My partner expressed an interest in maybe playing Rohan, so this was partially to use up some extra troopers from my Dunland forces, and partially to have a small infantry force to support the endless cavalry.

So, fun note! There's a line in the Silmarillion about the clash of the Last Alliance and Sauron (from 'Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age'): "All living things were divided in that day, and some of every kind, even of beasts and birds, were found in either host, save the Elves only." Which means that the Last Alliance had orcs fighting against Sauron. Thus, Yarrow and his band, deserters from the power of Isengard, under a sign of a golden-boughed tree.

I've finished the first member of the Fellowship: Samwise the Brave. Also, the priority token that comes with the Fellowship box (and the Ring), and a pack of corgis to serve as Farmer Maggot's hounds (corgis from Bad Squiddo Games).

Oh boy here we go (ranting TOS fan, incoming!)😆

-TOS Alan isn't a brat or a POS. Just because he turned 20-21 that doesn't mean teenage temper will automatically go away. Growing up to be an adult is complicated (believe me, I've been there XD).

-Jeff isn't a bad/abusive father (at least what I seen on older fics). Yes, he's stern, gruff and sometimes strict in some places, but the guy CAN be a goofy and supportive too! And it was proven in some occasions in the show (I'm looking at you, Day of Disaster XD). Overall, I bet he didn't wanted to put his sons in harm's way, especially in the rescue business, but left with no choice after some pestering from his boys.

-As much as I love The Uninvited to death (because of Scott, of course 😆) yeah its a bit of an unnecessary ep. Shooting up a pyramid doesn't really bring anything much on the table lol XD

-I wished the stories more focused on the characters. The Thunderbirds ships are cool and all, but I wish they acted as extensions to the Tracy Brothers. TAG did a good job at qit (as far as a "kid show" would allow).

Fruiddo's History & Re-designs

Some background insight:

Fruiddo has been in the making for over 3 years now. At first it was supposed to be a silly little art project to help with art block. But the real story began when I started to write about him. From there he became more than a little side project.

Writing is a hobby of mine. It's not my strong suit but I enjoy it. And although i have to rewrite a lot of my stories because they are for better words. Messy. From plot holes to bad spelling, you would think a 13 year old wrote it.

Fruiddo's beginning:

It was on a Google wheel where it all started. I had a bunch of crossovers ideas on it. Ranging from popular games and shows to movies and books. From there it just happened to land on Undertale X Minecraft. Where I had chosen Fresh!Sans(One of my favorite SansAU) and a Minecraft YouTuber named Squiddo or TheRealSquiddo.

At the time Fruiddo didn't really have name. It was also at that time where I tried to combine Princess Vanellope, from Wreck-It Ralph into the mix. But due to some complications with the fact that none of their designs mixed. I ended up scraping that idea pretty quickly. And settled for the design I had already had.

Fruiddo's Naming:

Fruiddo's naming was the same as how he came to be. The Google wheel! There's a them here with the Google wheel. There was two names on there, one from me and the other from a friend. Wanderer or Scout and it just so happened to land on Wanderer.

So Wanderer was the name. In fact Wanderer was his name for over two years. It wasn't until recently that I only changed the name to Fruiddo along with giving the book title a new name. But the only reason why I changed the name was because it was kinda pushed back but not completely forgotten. Only recently have I found the original name was not fitting for the hyper and kind character i was creating.

So replacing the 'SQ' with a 'FR' in front of the 'uiddo'. Gave me the name Fruiddo and it stuck. Now it feels right and fits his personality perfectly.

Fruiddo's design:

Fruiddo's design has stayed consistent throughout the year's. A blue/cyan turtleneck sweater, a big orange backpack, red running shoes, and shorts. Along with round glasses of pink and yellow. With a triangle on the top right(left) with two stars and a smiley face on the bottom left(right) with one star above it. It wasn't until recently that I added a few things.

The added things where just purple sleeves on the turtleneck sweater and an arcade floor pattern for the shorts. Otherwise everything has stayed the same and constant.

Hi all, I got back from UK Games Expo on Sunday - a fantastic weekend!

So great to spend time with good friends playing games, chatting and laughing. I travelled up with close mates and we stayed together in an Airbnb apartment which proved to be ideal (and far cheaper than us all getting hotel rooms!).

Our intention on the Friday was just to scope the place out and play some board games, which we did (though I did splash out on a paint set too), and very early on reached the Fighting Fantasy stand where I bumped into my friends Dave and Chris, which was great timing! It was lovely to chat with Ian Livingstone and Jonathan Green, and also Dan at Blue Giant Studios again and talk about the upcoming Fighting Fantasy Fest in September, the special miniature I'll be painting, and see that they've put my painted Bloodbeast on the box!

Ian also let me know that there will be a gallery of the FF minis I did for him in his forthcoming book, so that was an amazing surprise!

Another highlight was that I got to chat with Gav Thorpe and Andy Chambers and try out Zeo Genesis , their new sci fi skirmish game, which was a lot of fun - I got to take a free mech suit mini too!

I had lovely chats also with Bad Squiddo Games, Blue Giant Studios, Cerberus-studios, Realms of Tiberium, Moonstone and Louis Downs (Louis and I have been trying to meet up at the last 4 shows!), MODIPHIUS, Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy, and finally got to meet Man O Kent Games, Mike Hutchinson (Gaslands), Jon Hodgson Illustration, Lost Haven Art (who produced my logo and business promo material) The Thornless Rose, Rolltex Texture Rollers, and my friends Gonders, Julian Sparrow and Geordie Calgar who I know through Twitter etc. On the Saturday night, some friends and I had a big game of Grimdark Future One Page Rules, with Luke pitching his Ork horde against mine and Saul's Rebel Guerrillas:

A great game, very hard fought, and eventually the orks victory came down to one dice roll to see if a squig was shaken after losing a combat - it passed and so finished by contesting the objective on our side of the table!

Purchases...

I decided to mainly buy things I had been promising myself for a while, and take advantage of show discounts, so in an effort to divorce myself from Citadel paints, I got the Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl base set from Element Games, and a rechargeable lamp from Daylight, which will be so useful when I'm painting at shows! I also picked up The Art of The Miniature Painting Tutor from Warlord Games  because I had heard so many good things about it. I did get a few minis, but deliberately kept that to a minimum as I genuinely want to clear my backlog... (yeah, I know...) so I got a couple of brilliant new Halflings from Bad Squiddo Games, one of Duncan's Sir Coats minis, and after my painful experiences with those Anarchy stencils a few weeks ago, I was determined to get some diamond stencils from Steel Harpy!  Also, as well as the  Zeo Genesis mechsuit, I was given a free mini from the Onepagerules folks. And given all that, I'm actually not feeling too bad this week - I'm continuing work on the Striking Scorpions and I've finished the first five, with the others well on their way, so I would think they'll be ready to photograph later today:)
