Maybe bandits are bad because...they kill people lol? Do you even like this game holy shit. It's fiction
Alright, I'm going to explain this like you're ten, since obviously you missed high-school English class:
The bandits in d&d are fictional, which means they're made up by a DM acting as a writer
To be a good writer, you need to have an idea what motivates the characters in your story because that's what drives your antagonists to oppose your protagonists and vice versa
You have to be pretty motivated to be willing to kill a stranger for money, moreso to assemble a small sports team worth of similarly desperate individuals and attack a well armed group of travellers as part of a basic random encounter.
A good writer might be able to look at their world and come up with a believable reason why these characters they made up have resorted to violence. They might use that information to make the story better later on, relating what seems like a one-off encounter to a greater plotline so it's not just meaningless filler
Because they thought about it for more than three seconds, the DM can design the encounter with the bandits in line with their goals and motivations, and can allow for solutions to the encounter that aren't just violence, meaning they can get more done in that session.
I love this game, which is why I think about it a lot and hold it to atleast a passing standard. Unlike you, who is evidently allergic to thinking in general.

i;m allowed to be a little miffed as an artist that people think ai art is at all comparable to anything i do,
like yeah obviously to anyone who's bought into the hype this sounds like the butthurt whining of a bygone relic, jealous of the new technology making them obsolete or whatever
but like i'm not even *that* good of an artist, i'm alright, i'm passable. but that i can even make something with intent puts me leagues above ai art!
i can draw things that make sense when you look at them up close, i can think about how things are framed, in drawing a comic, i create a narrative sequence of images, each technically working on their own but coming together to be more than the sum of their parts, guiding the reader's eye and attention to form a compositional whole, rather than just "generating" a dozen separate images that all have nothing to do with eachother and stitching them together in photoshop, or putting in "comic page" as a prompt and getting a vague blob that melts together and makes no real sense.
i can make small adjustments if i want, look at this, look at me do something basically no generative art "tool" can do
to do something so small and basic with a prompted image with no layers you'd have to do so much image manipulation of your own you might as well have drawn the entire fucking thing yourself, because it's useless for actually making anything on purpose, because its only real use case is surface level novelty you look at for 2 minutes and then get bored
and like all the effort and knowledge i've put into learning my craft, all of this is nothing to you? you think that typing "big boobs anime woman trending on art station" and getting a denoising algorithm to magic that out of thin air is at all equivalent to anything i do? anything me or any other artist on the planet can do?
like is your taste in everything so shit that you cannot tell the difference between something a human being made on purpose, and endless Content Slop fed directly into your eyeballs, made by an algorithm that was trained on how to imitate what vaguelly looks pretty without being able to understand much of anything because it's a fucking denoising algorithm,
god, ai art is all flash and no substance, if you think this is somehow the next big leap in the art world or whatever, that only tells me you don't have any fucking clue at all what actual artists do, or have any appreciation for their work beyond vapid novelty, and i'm not sure whether to feel insulted that you think so lowly of our work, or feel sorry for you because of how god damn unperceptive you are

Bad opinion here: I think artists should definitely write down things onto background items. Not like an actual product name or like a restaurant name, fuck it dude just put 'fear and fuck' on a book cover when drawing a library, not just a bunch of squiggly lines. Like make it funny, hell put loss on a restaurant sign in the background when drawing an alleyway with a character. Put some life into the world around that art by making it shit face insane. I want to go look at art and see somewhere in the background a book cover that just says some bullshit like: why my legs are bread. by bill nye scientist man.

Just rewatched the d&d movie and was reminded how angry it made some people, specifically how Edgin was "emasculated" by not being the strongest member of the party, showing parental care, always reaching out to others, and constantly apologising as a means of reconsiliation.
The bad takes are out there for you to find, but I bring them up now specifically because there's been a recent tend among chuds doubling down on a desire to return (or retvrn if they're extra fashy) to "taditional" or "stoic" masculenity and claiming that any media that potreys men outside a position of unquestioned power is "degredation".
It's that classic rightwing cocktail of insecurity and media illiteracy, completely unable to find value in a character who isn't a paper thin power fantasy they can project onto. What's hilarious is that all the stuff they hate about Edgin are things that would make a normal person like him: He's an underdog, he's a flawed but loving dad, he's an inspiring person, and he's a good leader! The chuds see these as unmanly traits, but what they mean is that these are traits they sorely lack and have thus excluded from their concept of what makes a man "manly". When you're a selfish, offputting asshole who's affraid of being wrong, you want to hold up selfish, offputting assholes as the pinacle of what people like you should be.

Veilguard has made me so angry it has pretty much retroactively ruined the rest of the series for me and made me look back on them with bitterness. Honestly the only thing managing to keep me from writing them off completely and never looking back is mainly Varric and Alistair to a smaller degree. But mostly Varric.
Which just adds to the bitterness because of how Veilguard treated him. And how Bioware treated his lead writer.
I don't think I've ever been angrier or felt more betrayed by any franchise before. Mainly because with other franchises, the thing I was a fan of is strong enough to preserve my love for it through any shitty newer additions. But Dragon Age has always been extremely flawed to me in many ways. It's just the good parts were enough to keep me attached to it.
So to see that THIS is the direction it all lead. That THIS was the reward for over a decade of loyalty despite the glaring problems and annoyances with the series.
It's really retroactively soured my opinion of the previous games as well and amplified the things I disliked about them in my mind.

[Image description: tags by actualized-animal which say #this is somewhat tangential but #we live in a culture where people are really encouraged to put every aspect of themselves out there in public #where it can be seen and consumed by strangers #when i've found it's been infinitely more helpful to give myself the space to explore things about myself in private #away from the dozens upon dozens of prying eyes looking at my blog on tumblr #*that* was way more helpful for my self-discovery and stopped me from airing a lot of thoughts that i've since had time to develop more #it's a lesson that i wish i had known from the beginning #and that's why i've become a lot more private again now. i hate feeling like a thing to be consumed and judged #i don't want strangers developing complex opinions about me]
this might be controversial but i also dont really mind. people need spaces that are not the internet where they can be mean and have bad opinions about things because they can change. but capturing a permanent snapshot of a person and then judging them for that for the rest of their life is, actually, really fucking bad for someone's development as a human being

I think cis people should also be their gender of choice. Like, if you're a man, you should get to really enjoy being a man- have fun with it! If you're a woman, take the parts of womanhood that really deeply make you happy. If being a little androgynous or ambiguous or hidden is the part that really makes you happy, you don't have to be trans for that. If you wanna lean really hard into being femme or masc- do it! You have one life in your body, do what makes you happy. Ditch the stuff you don't like.
My sinister queer agenda is I think that everyone should be the gender they like in the way they like it.
#the most important opinion on your gender is your own#it's like fashion#if you're wearing what genuinely makes you feel happy and comfortable#you can't look bad

sometimes there will be an album thats like, considered the best album, and sometimes thats like, offputting. like what if i dont like it or whatever. maybe i will appear contrarian to myself, the only person who will notice. idk. it doesnt make sense. and then sometimes i will listen and it will be great and its like, annoying i guess, like yeah it would be great i guess, an album known for being regarded widely as great is probably more likely to be so. but then its like what if i only like it because i think i should, because its the consensus view that its good. or because i expected to and its like confirmation bias. and then i think like do i actually enjoy anything, and what is enjoyment. and then i usually just go listen to gerry and the pacemakers or something yknow.
well i dont so i hope u do! idk. i got distracted
