In the article, Iger reveals he just learned having a good story matters, and he believes he’s been fixing things at the company which has faced 2 proxy fights this year, triggered the 1st dual strike in ½ a century & the longest actors strike in film history, and he’s personally being sued by multiple groups of investors. Bob, you are the problem. It’s you, chucklehead.
In business schools they will teach Bob’s current CEO-ship to MBA candidates as a stunning example of what _not_ to do. And I say that as someone who has taught MBA candidates in business school.

Just got out of this week's newly mandatory corporate barn staff meeting and here's the condensed minutes—
boss: boarders are mad we're using less shavings.
upstart kid who wanted to use less shavings: I guess we'll use a little more.
me: or we could like, go back to the amount we used for the last 2 years that everyone was happy with. Just a thought.
boss: No no, we have to cut corners for the budget. So what's a nice middle ground? How many inches of shavings? Six?
upstart: uh...
me: ...
boss: Is that too much?
me: Kind of depends on the type of shavings and whether they're fluffed up or not.
boss: so... 4 inches?
upstart:....
me: Do you seriously want us to measure this with a yardstick?
Boss: You guys tell me.
us guys: ...
Boss: okay 4 inches it is! Any other concerns?
—10 minutes of useless back and forth about stall cleaning techniques—
me: cool can I get back to work now?

Trying really hard to not quit my job right now.
God, the fantasy of quitting is exciting and alluring.
Oh my god.
I could sleep in. Get up. Workout. Casual breakfast. Hang with mom. Relaxed lunch. Read and watch movies with mom. Not worry about FMLA or appointments.
I also wouldn't have any money, health insurance, or retirement.
Fuck me 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Haven't they already been trying to do the full HAXE conversion since the beginning? Wasn't the port with the very few islands like Timmy Failure and 24 Carrot already part of their attempt at starting from scratch? They really had no alternative when everything Flash-related was gonna disappear regardless anyway. It has been four years since then.
You're right...
I wonder why they stopped converting the islands then? They started it 4 YEARS ago.
If they had kept at it, then all of the islands would be back by now. Maybe the mini-islands like Legendary Swords and Spook Central too.
But they were too busy making... these:
Even the former Pop creators acknowledge how much Pop sucks now XD
So sad 😞

Whatever happened. I can understand that some people, including me, can’t befriend with the thought that they’re just replacing people of their “family”. Imagine a show would do that. Just replace cumberbatch (after years) with someone else who’s walking by. And expect that we are all happy with that, will not say a word and silently keep watching. Although we all know that it is not exactly the same, it is still what “john” and others are doing right now. I don’t know what happened there that caused the decision to stop interacting with consultsherlock. But this is not exactly the best solution. Also, it happened very abruptly to the fans and apparently sherlock. And they just want us to continue like nothing happened and not question anything. Nah.
Exactly this!!!
This is why I posted my original thoughts on the whole odd situation.

In this essay I will…
Elon Musk is playing with people’s lives and destroying his very own *newly acquired* company.
One thing people don’t seem to get from Musk firing most of his engineering staff is the fact that a lot of those people are walking away with YEARS of tribal knowledge. That is experience you will never be able to completely replicate nor completely replace.
These people have been working on the same codebase for 5-10+ years and have developed an invaluable level of expertise. This expertise gives them the edge to fix and tackle issues faster than anyone else with best solution catered specifically for that particular project.
A new engineer may be able to assist with the solution (and thinking outside of the box), which is great but doesn’t happen as often as you would think. That and that outside the box solution would likely need input from the expert anyway.
That knowledge helps them foresee potential bigger issues and gives them the confidence to warn higher-ups and system engineers of why some decisions may not be the best direction. They are the first line of defense when it comes to technical problems.
It often takes several new engineers to make up for the loss of these domain experts. It’s often why many companies will bend over backwards to keep them happy. If they were to walk the company would not only be losing an extremely efficient worker but the knowledge walks too.
And if enough of these domain experts all leave at the same time, there is no procedure on earth that could ever produce an effective knowledge transfer from their ghosts let alone to a bunch of greenhorns.
There would be so much technical debt attempting to reverse engineer everything that the company would experience a HUGE loss both financially and in efficiency. And most of those financial dollars would seep into overhead which is BAD.
To put it in non-software/system engineering terms:
It’s like trying to run a closet the size of a giant Amazon warehouse.
The people who have been working at said closet KNOW where random blouse A234 exists, which room it exists in, if it is hung or put away in a drawer, and what it generally looks like.
They may have forgotten a few details but they can easily look at it and remember how to accessorize it.
They also may know that there is a cute pair of boots that always goes with it from a completely different section of the warehouse. That section of the warehouse is hard to get to and is often disorganized so the trek to and from the area will be difficult but they know this.
That blouse was also last used/worn 5 years ago, but they know it may not fit every body type and may even notice some new tears in it which will need to be sewed quickly.
They also have the confidence and know-how to mention the tears they found, how long it will take them to sew them, and which manager to inform.
If denied the opportunity to sew the tears, they also know how to tell said manager why that might be problematic in the future.
E.g. potential wardrobe malfunctions
A new employee (1-2yrs) will NOT be able to know to do that all that nor as quickly. If you tell them to find dress “A234” and add a scarf to it, they wouldn’t even know where to start (where is it? how can I add the scarf so it doesn’t look awful with the dress? etc.). Even if they are at the company for a year and was the top of their Harvard class, they won’t be as efficient.
That is because tribal knowledge takes YEARS to build up and there is no person that can do it better other than another expert (a coworker) with the same expertise.
That and take the fact that no single developer knows and understands the entire codebase of one project. That’s the entire reason why so many software companies are comprised of TEAMS: to divide and conquer.

The Elon Twitter chaos continues.
The crisis at Twitter reached new heights on Friday as hundreds of employees were reported to have rejected Elon Musk’s ultimatum to keep working for the business, threatening its ability to keep operating.
As the company temporarily closed its offices to staff, Twitter users began saying their goodbyes and linking to accounts on other platforms.
#RIPTwitter, #TwitterDown, Mastodon and Myspace were all trending on the platform after the deadline passed on Musk’s ultimatum for the remaining workforce to sign up for “long hours at high intensity”, or leave. It has been estimated that hundreds of the remaining staff opted to go.
Seriously, a type of loyalty oath? Trump-style management didn’t save Trump’s numerous failed businesses and it won’t help Elon Musk.
This is what a slow implosion looks like. We’re gonna need a lot of popcorn for this one.
The departures include many engineers responsible for fixing bugs and preventing service outages, raising questions about the stability of the platform amid the loss of employees and prompting hurried debates among managers over who should be asked to return, current and former employees said.
Those former Twitter workers need to start working on a replacement platform ASAP. It would be a foolish waste of talent and a missed opportunity if they let this go by.
Government-related Twitter accounts like that of the French Embassy in Fiji are already announcing to followers where they can be found elsewhere online. There is a gap that needs to be filled quickly.
Musk isn’t the only person to blame for Twitterpocalypse. The stupidity of Twitter’s former chair Jack Dorsey and the greed of Twitter’s former board of directors including CEO Parag Agrawal must share responsibility for this disaster. If you give a flamethrower to a known arsonist then you can’t claim you’re innocent of starting a wildfire.
Any successor to Twitter should preferably be a not for profit corporation to make it resistant to takeovers by the clueless billionaires of this world. Being nonprofit doesn’t mean you make no money. Strictly speaking, IKEA is part of a nonprofit group. A nonprofit New Twitter (or whatever you wanna call it) could still have enough income to attract talent and make investments in itself.
The internet has become too important to trust to egotistical oligarchs like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.

Sitting here minding my own literal business, and thinking unbidden about how terrible my one ex-boss was.
She discouraged us from using pins to keep our fabric aligned while sewing, because in her mind it added more time to a project.
But she also hated when we had to redo things. But we had to redo things because poor quality comes from slapdash shit like not using pins when you need to.
I don't need to use pins for every single thing, but when I do, you don't f**king get to question it. I know my hands, I know fabric, and I know the basic physics of the thing I'm doing.
An example of higher-ups knowing nothing about the actual work their employees are doing; caring only about money and their own face.
I haven't worked for that person in almost a year and a half. How dare they. How dare they continue to take up space in my brain when it's MY business now, MY projects, and I did NOTHING WRONG to begin with.
Pins. For the love of all things beautiful, use those sharp little pointy shits if you need to.
Humans make tools for reasons. It's our thing.
The use of tools, aids, instruments, accommodations: not a problem. Been doing it since the dawn of man.
F**k your capitalist ableism, ma'am.

old boss said she would give me an adjusted schedule after I told her this was my last two weeks but instead she did not do that and for the last 3 days she just expected me to keep working 8 hour split shifts all weekend to hold her stupid business together like I've done for the past year and change even after she cut my pay and then drummed up fake reasons to fire me?! So it's monday and I was supposed to work another split shift but ooopsie I'm sick. :/ Gonna drink my coffee and write for a few hours instead. Got 90+ hours of sick leave saved up that I never had to use because I'm such a godsdamn model employee lol. Actually I'm their only employee who's vaccinated and wears a mask sometimes.

"Go to hell" is basic. "Hope your favourite anime movie sequel gets cancelled after seven years in production AND getting an animated teaser." is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying. It's happened.

So I made a mistake at work and openly admitted it was my fault:
"Yeah, I wasn't paying attention, I made a mistake. You all have every right to be mad and frustrated with me. I made more stress for everyone, and I am sorry. I should have done better."
And now my manager has just been talking in circles for the past few days because she doesn't know what to do with me.
It's like she was HOPING I was going to deny and try to argue my innocence. And keeps trying to fish for an argument by asking me to explain every step because she "doesn't understand" how this happened.
Girl, I'm not gonna give excuses. I'm not gonna yell at anyone or cry to defend myself.
I straight up made a bad call, and that's that.
She is legitimately more upset that I told the truth and took accountability for my own actions than the actual mess up itself.
I've kinda been debating if i should drag this out longer because if anything, the more I have to confirm that I am willing to accept the blame. The more everyone else views me as being honest and humble.
All she is doing is building me a good reputation. 😂😂😂

Can someone please explain to upper management that when one of the two heating units in the lab building breaks (last year mind you), cranking the remaining one up so that one half of the building is 90 FUCKING DEGREES FAHRENHEIT and the other is still freezing is not an acceptable solution.
#rant#bad management#a water pipe still burst in the frozen half of the building ya fuckwits#It's not like the hospital lab is important or anything/s#lab work
