Opinion: Smoke Machine
I’m a lighting kid and a soon to be stage manager (youngest ever in my school. That was a brag). The one thing that makes my lighting designs the prettiest they’ve ever been is… SMOKE MACHINES! BLIND THE ACTORS! SURROUND THEM WITH SMOKE! KILL THEM ALL! WIPE OUT THEIR FACES SO WE CAN SEE THE BLEND OF COLOURS, PERFECTLY PLACED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today my school put on its fall play, and my sister was part of the backstage crew for it! It's not her first production, but it was amazing to see knowing my sister worked on part of it. The play was also really funny. If you don't know what it's about, it's basically a murder-mystery about murder-mystery writers. I won't spoil the ending, but it was really good. I knew some things about the play before seeing it from my sister, but my mom had no clue what it was about.
Also earlier today I volunteered at the garden I do every Saturday, but I found out it would be the last time before it closed down for the winter. It was kinda cold, so I guess that makes sense. My mom was literally freezing, but she always runs cold so for normal people it was just a bit chilly.
When I was in the garden I also saw a super cute frog when weeding some beds, and had to take a pic of it.

Come From Away is a great example of a show designed to be one act. The sets and costumes are extremely minimal. And that's a fabulous choice for that show!
But if we want a gorgeous costume-and-set-heavy extravaganza, we usually need intermission. When I worked backstage, there were plenty of shows where intermission was my busiest time, as we rearranged sets, costumes, props, etc. so that the second half would run smoothly. Most theater backstage areas are actually tiny, so you can't always do all your set up for a long show beforehand.
(My "favorite" was an extreme case where during intermission, the crew pushed a bunch of giant rolling set pieces across the stage so we could rearrange them and then push them back into the wings, then do the same on the other side. We barely finished it every night. That show could have been designed differently, honestly.)
Unpopular theatre opinion: intermissions are bad and I wish we could just have a 2.5 hour performance uninterrupted, like people manage perfectly well at movie theaters. It always just kills my emotional immersion. Set changes and costume changes valid, but the art form could adapt in other ways. Or making the intermission experience somehow also part of the performance? Just something more interesting and intentional than dumping people out into the lobby to buy m&ms.

Hear me out, poly morning crew theater au but they’re not actors, they’re the backstage crew.
Fit is in charge of moving and building sets and helping any scene changes. He’s the strongest person in their little community theater and he begrudgingly accepted the job.
Pac is in charge of props and he runs that shit like he’s in the army. No one is allowed to touch anything without him being aware of it and gods help you if you break anything because you’re screwing around with it.
Tubbo is the lighting/sound tech. He’s not happy about the limited capabilities of the equipment he has to work with but he understands that they have a budget. The best part about his job is that he can stare at Fit and his muscles during the brief moments he has to run on to stage to move something.
The cast of their little shows are fully aware that something is happening between the three but most just chalk it down to the adrenaline of a show

Opinion: Backstage Side Buissiness.
As an SM and Lighting Kid I am full on endorsing this. We should be making tickets to allow actors/normies to strobe and sell these tickets. I guarantee you that you will make money.

Hi Ningy! This is your reminder to, and I quote, "draw you almost falling flat on your face in front of will wood".
