holy shit.. now talk about nostalgia. this was 1 of not so many games i played on "family computer" in our small living room. can imagine very slim dark [probably black] wooden desk, big chunky off white monitor on it, pull out shelf with keyboard and a very small shelf at the very bottom where phone/internet modem was warming up legs. i remember playing some demos of games from kids gaming magazine and this 1 was actually full game which i never got thru 2nd stage i think. always got stuck in pirate ship area and i think i remember there were either some kind of bombs or dynamite you could use but i never figured out which button you had to click for that. i liked this game and almost mastered 1st area where you gotta platform jump your way thru i think it was probably prison that you had to escape.. very dark, dungeon-y, made out of stones area. it was a bit scary to me but not that much. just a bit because i used to realy immerse myself in games i used to play. full on shaking my whole body once i had to get away from the monitor. i still maybe have this cd-rom somewhere.
claw was realy a fine game to me and seeing a pic of it for first time in years on tumblr of all places is just special. i haven't played many games as a kid or teenager but this 1 somehow found it's way to be mentioned in my biography.

see i love the backrooms as a concept. so much. and the popular imagery and works that people create do resonate with me, and i enjoy every ‘cliche’ and predictable twist of people’s own interpretations of the concept.
but at the heart of it, i really enjoy the backrooms minus the monsters. the concept of being stranded in an endless, impossible plane of not-quite-existence, entirely alone. maybe the environment feels malicious, maybe you find yourself suddenly displaced or fall asleep in one room only to wake up in another, all of that is fine. but i don’t want creepy crawlies.
i’ll take them on occasion - kane pixel’s the rolling giant is one of my favorite short films ever, actually - but for the most part, i need the horror to come from the devastating loneliness. that feeling of being lost with no hope of finding your way back. the eerily otherness of a world made entirely of things painfully familiar, hilariously mundane, but never welcoming. you will see nothing but the wood panel walls of your childhood living room for miles, and not once will you feel at home.

The phrase "gentrified backrooms" has been bouncing around in my mind ever since I had to walk miles through the streets of La Jolla, California.
This morning my subconscious rendered that concept fully. I will try to write down what I remember:
It started with me and a scared boy running down a glossy marble/wood corridor and entering a ridiculously large elevator. Each of it's walls was a mirrored door, we weren't sure which one would open when I hit a button for a different floor. When a door opened up, the boy and I ventured out cautiously into another hallway. We split up with him going into a commons room while I kept going down the hall towards some escalators and stairs. This guy comes rushing down and yelling that we need to go. So we hustle back to the big elevator and hit the button for a different floor. Just as the doors shut, I remember we left the boy behind.
Then I woke up in a well lit dorm bedroom with some other people who were apparently my roommates. We didn't know each other but we knew that we'd get along so instead of talking we started examining the contents of our room. The furniture wasn't expensive but it was comfortable. There were items that weren't ours but we would own. In my case, it was a book of illustrations for a science fiction fantasy universe that I was unfamiliar with. We found a salad bowl filled with chopped romaine lettuce, crisp but completely plain. We had a feeling that this was our last meal so we started eating it quickly with our bare hands. I was on my second handfull when the front door to our suite disappeared. So we reluctantly went out exploring the halls of carpet and plaster. There were other dorm rooms missing their front doors with no one in them. Each one filled with items that were interesting to the former occupants.
. . . And that's when I actually woke up in real life.

Dream record — log 32 (archived)
Subject: Children of the Dreamscape
Written by: Dr. Ambrose - Head of Dreamscape Research and Exploration Agency (DREA)
The Dreamscape is an unpredictable place, as we all know. It is home to various of entities unknown to even our most avid researchers. One of the most commonly encountered entities in the Dreamscape is the Children of the Dreamscape.
As the name suggests, they are humanoid entities that the Dreamscape claims as its own. They are approximately the size of a ten year old child and wears an off white gown. That is all what normal about them. They have something akin to bandages wrapped around where their eyes should have been, their mouths seem to have the consistency of melted wax.
These entities are often seen roaming among dreams, they are rather docile and will interact with our researchers once encountered.
Additional information: by Researcher Florian — Research Department 8
They have a really strange, dreamy voice, as if it was taken out from a distant memory that you have forgotten about. That is one uncanny factor that makes the Children of the Dreamscape so terrifying every time one encounters us on our exploration.
Another factor is that they can mimic voices, tones, and accents from the people they have interacted with. One nearly gave us a collective heart attack when it spoke to us with the voice and manner of one of our researchers.
God help us all if they know how to shapeshift.

Almost forgot that last night I drew something based off a weird dream I had months ago where I was watching a movie about a guy who came home one morning to find a bunch of construction workers in the middle of building a "backrooms style storage closet" in the middle of his livingroom.
I don't remember too much of what happened but I recall the guy's family took a look around after the construction was finished and just vanished completely afterwards, the rest of the film was this dude doing his best to barricade the huge hole in the wall while the edges of it started to rot, also his neighbour kept telling him he was overreacting to all this.
