Completed and healed ... thanks to @mkltattoos for sharing your awesome talent to add all the finishing touches and complete my "vision" for Ryman's first word. To add to the beauty of this whole experience, a few days ago, while checking out at a store by myself, the soft spoken sales clerk (a man in late 20's / early 30's) sees my tattoo and says, "That's cool, is that a heart?" I said, "It's actually a bunch of things... the middle is the sound wave of my son's first word, and the watercolors represent painting with him which has become very special to me, and if you see the puzzle piece... well, he has Autism..." and right then, his very dry, and straight voice totally changed, his eyes brightened, and he cuts me off to say, "Me too!" Its was so cool to see how happy he was that I "understood" what Autism really means. I said, "well I'm sure you know, a lot of people with Autism have a hard time learning to speak, so last month, my little guy's first word was a really big deal to me." He says, "yeah, I know all about that, I didn't speak until I was 6." He finished ringing my things, and I got his name, said "It was so nice to meet you", and told him he would have to say hello to Ryman next time we were in the store. He kind of awkwardly grinned and said "Have a nice day". It was precious, and all the more reason this is so special to me. Like any parent I love to talk about my kid, but even more importantly I'm finding this is becoming a tool to TEACH people about my kid, connect with people, share our story, and hopefully help others going through similar circumstances to maybe not feel so alone... and THAT is a REALLY beautiful thing!! #nashvillemom #autismmom #autismspeaks #soundwavetattoo #babysfirstword #watercolors #nashvilletattoo

My son said 'dada' last night while looking up at him and my heart just felt so much in that moment. He loves his dad so much. Our society today's tends to not give dads enough credit. He may not have birthed him or breastfed him or went through the physical pain but let me tell you something about dads and this dad in particular: he went to the doctors appointments, he waited on me hand and foot for 9 months, was my coach during labor, my shoulder when I felt overwhelmed with being a mom. He spends every second he can with his son even on 3-4 hours of sleep per night. He is my son's whole world and hearing him say dada yesterday was unreal. 💕 &here's to him and all the rockstar dads out there feeling unappreciated.
