Another render!!!!!!! This time I wanted to try and play around with combining my drawing knowledge with the basic blender understanding I have! Whatever lighting I couldn't get through blender (probably out of my own new-ness to the program) I added after in my art program. This is still a really new art form to me but I'm REALLY enjoying it!!!!

BYEEE Production Update #2!
As promised, we're hard at work progressing the collection behind the scenes, and we've just got our first render of Brass Tacks Stan! This is the very first 3D capture of our beloved Grunkle, and while a few changes are required, we're sure you'll agree he's already looking incredible.
So, what's going to change?
We can see clearly now the rain is gone... We're going to be reworking Stan's glasses to be more accurate to his series design - we should have seen this coming really, as lineart and 'actually this is just a black frame' is always a little difficult to communicate with 3D renders. This will also make the arms of his specs much less intrusive on the lenses and frame his stubble more accurately to the show.
Who gave him toothpaste? Stan doesn't have shiny white gnashers. Very important to get that natural Grunkle-Stank, even in his own image. Fans will know we're working off of Stan's fantasy of himself in Land Before Swine so we're using this as a basis throughout!
Stan, your tattoo is leaking. There's a couple of texture errors on his torso, particularly on those GLISTENING ABS. This is super rudimentary and will not be present on the finished figure, so don't worry. We're working on tight deadlines and none more so than our amazing independent art team.
What's staying the same?
G I R T H Remember - Stanley is a full 8" tall, and is going to be one broad-shouldered fella. We plan to keep those glistening, adonis-esque proportions so he's perfectly in scale with his dorky brother.
Now we've got a full view of how Stan will look, we can finalise his design. The changes we need for him are incredibly minor and don't include any complicated things like Infinity Mirrors and totally-not-real-portals-to-other-dimensions, so we expect this to be a pretty smooth journey to completion.
Never say never, though. Plenty can happen once these babies hit the factory, and we'll be sure to update you of any further changes.
Our amazing 3D Modeller Kelly is being pushed to the limits and we hope you're all as in love with her work as we are. We can't wait to see this man stand before us in the flesh.
...And it's a lot of flesh.
Remember, Brass Tacks Stan is available NOW to preorder, but you only have a few more days to pick him up! At $180USD, we're content he's plenty of man for your money.

I just watched the Shadow Dark Beginnings animation preview and bro.... where do I even begin?

Now listen, I talk about Splatoon 99% of the time here, but you gotta understand something, Sonic was my first love in gaming. Ever since I played the classic games, Unleashed, Heroes, Rush and Rush Adventure. And watching clips from Adventure 1 and 2. I've always been a humongous fan of this franchise. I grew up in the crowd that watched those "I FEEL LIKE A MONSTER" amvs of Sonic the Werehog for f sake. I had a printed out poster of a render from Sonic and the Black Knight on my wall as a kid because I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
So, seeing this series FINALLY go back to actually telling more serious stories while being sincere about it too... man... it makes me so. Damn. HAPPY!!!! Frontiers wasn't a one time thing, the darker and more serious stories are actually gonna stick around now. I think we're finally free from the 2010s where we were stuck with "BALDY NOSEHAIR! THAT'S THE BEST THING IVE HEARD ALL DAY!" For a literal decade.
Us Sonic fans had to go through the 2010s where the series made fun of itself and was all "comedy" and stopped doing the cool serious shit they used to do... it makes me so happy that they are FINALLY diving into things they haven't talked about in over a decade. They aren't scared anymore to show a fucking human in this god damn franchise because a bunch of gaming journalists who dont give a fuck about the series said "humans in sonic are BAD!" They aren't scared to show Maria and something like Emerl. EMERL?!?! FROM SONIC BATTLE?!?!?! THAT'S SO COOL!!! I BARELY PLAYED BATTLE BUT STILL! THATS AWESOME!
Now.... was some of the stuff in the 2000s going way too far? Like Shadow saying "you're going straight to hell" and murdering Dr Eggman in non canon endings. And a human kissing a dead Hedgehog to bring him back? Yeah that's way too far. DOESNT MEAN YOU SHOULD THROW THE BABY OUT WITH THE BATHWATER!!!! Lost World and Forces man. My God. Ugh.
Anyways, yeah I'm so excited and so hopeful for this franchise again. Before Frontiers came out I was so nervous if the game was gonna be good or not and what you may say about the game itself, it did appeal to tons of people and became the highest selling 3D Sonic game of all time, beating out Heroes. I am now actually fully confident and excited for Frontiers 2 or whatever the next game shall be.
People cheering and crying over the stuff that happens in that game AS WELL AS A PREVIEW FOR A SHADOW ANIMATION makes me so.... HGIWIDIDIS WAHHH IM SO HAPPY!!! IM HAPPY!!! SONIC IS BACK!!! SONIC IS FINALLY BACK!!! SHADOW IS BACK!!! BOW YOUR HEADS LOW ALL HAIL SHADOW!!!!

A Walk Down my Art Memory Lane!
Now that I’m thinking about my childhood Kirby art, I dug through my storage a bit and thought it’d be fun to share a few! Here are some of Baby Jojo’s drawings!
note: I was not active in any online Kirby art communities at the time and I never posted these anywhere so I made these drawings just for my own enjoyment hehehe.

These are probably among my earliest Kirby drawings. Most likely ~2008!! I must’ve been in fifth grade maybe…? The first picture is a very rare example of pre-2022 Dedede sightings in my art. Around 2010 I became embarrassed and frustrated about not being able to figure his shapes out. So I spent the next 12 years avoiding him at all costs and instead sticking to the safer things to draw, like nice round Bronto Burts or Waddle Dees. Who knew it would take me writing an entire comic about him in 2022 to finally learn to draw him in my style!! :P
The second picture speaks for itself lol. I was the girl who googled “maskless meta knight” back when we had no fancy 3D renderings of his face. Just edits of anime screenshots and fanart of him holding his mask/getting his mask stolen and looking at you with the biggest, pearliest, white eyes. JPEG artifacts littered these images like sprinkles on a cupcake. And I would giggle and squee with every one like the baby fangirl of Meta Knight I was. :3

This one was probably ~2009. Very ambitious piece for me at that age. I struggled with the perfect roundness of Kirby haha. I had just gotten these cool alphabet stencils and couldn’t wait to write “Kirby” everywhere with them. This was probably the complete catalogue of Kirby characters I had the ability to draw at that time. It’s funny to think about how Magolor wouldn’t exist for another two years when I drew this.
Hmm. Maybe I should redraw this one day as a fun honor for my younger self.

Triple Waddle Dees!! A rare but precious Sailor Dee sighting, and of course my sweet Bandana Dee. This was probably around 2011 after Return to Dreamland came out and I came to adore Bandee. :3

This is probably around 2012- some time after Mass Attack came out. I had this AU at the time where each of the 10 Kirbies from Mass Attack had their own personality trait from the original Kirby, and a permanent copy ability assigned to them. Hence the Spark Kirby having wings and a halo like in the game- where you get damaged and have to rescue the poor Angel Kirbies before you lose that life!
Also my Poppy Bro Jr OC that I don’t think I named at the time- but I redrew him recently and named him Allegro the Poppy Bro. I loved drawing his hair and his funny teeth :D

Finally, I redrew just a few of the characters from my old drawings tonight. Just doodling for fun, nothing serious. But it’s something my child self would be happy to know I could do.
Guess I’d better draw all the Dededes that Baby Jojo missed out on drawing!! Thank you to anyone who read to this point. I encourage anyone to draw things that would make their younger, baby self proud of you. ….even though I bet they already are proud of you. <3
Remember, as long as you keep drawing, you’ll improve at your pace! Just keep at it! You’ll notice that difference over the years!

Since this is gonna be a personal view of me going through MK1 and I have been giving you the design perspective of Reptile, let's look on my personal take of the lore as my excuse to tell you how much I like him

First things first, I consider myself pretty new in MK, being my introduction to it was MK11. Due to how small the roster was, I didn't know Reptile was present at all. To my personal view at the time, he was just...another lizard monster jobber like Baraka. I admit his design in MKX was badass, but that's pretty much it.
Going into MK, I'm not sure if I'm gonna like it, knowing how they treated my first floodgate character in MK11 being Sindel. As I stated about Reptile, I love Sindel's design. I can see how she was probably inspired by Elvira(idk who that is but she looks exactly like her so lmk) and her MK11 design being a love letter to the Mortal Kombat movies back in 1995. Most MK11 character designs are, in exception to... Liu Kang and Kung Lao, for some reason, and well, the new additions(either brought in from MKX or completely new)
Safe bet they still haven't get a permission from Robin Shou to capitalize on a Liu Kang skin. Will be nice if they have it tho.
So, how did I get here?
Strangely enough, it was because I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and someone sent me the "KK in a wheelchair" meme.
Then I discovered SonicHaXD, then the other guys next to him, TrueUnderDawg and the4thSnake.
I already know the4thSnake from his Tekken videos so it wasn't as big of a jump to try looking at other lore-related stuff he did with MK. The leap of faith, however, was in TrueUnderDawg, since he was mostly sharing gameplay-related videos. I already despised him for using AI-generated image as a thumbnail while a quick edit using official renders wouldn't hurt anyone, or yk...pay an artist?
...and there comes the lore parts and I fell down the Reptile hole.

Learning that he was one of the OGs, next to Sub-Zero and Scorpion, on top of his lizard ability making him...basically a Reversed Druid, was the biggest bombshell dropped on me because how could NRS decide to fumble him
I saw him again in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, but then again, he's just...another lizard guy jobber. I love that his story revolved around him, being the last Saurian that only wants to help his people to have a new home after Shang Tsung pretty much fumbled them...like the NRS writers fumbling him on every turn. Even the 3D Era shows no mercy to his lore for him to only show up as a vessel for Onaga.
Then I heard those leaks about Reptile joining in M1K. My heart was racing like hell, thinking they would probably fumble him even worse.
And then...the reveal

And I read the official bio they gave to him, which so far, I am completely in love with the way it took a different twist from the original lore. So instead of him being the last hope of his people, he was betrayed by them for being what he is.
Although I would find the joining a circus part is unnecessary, and the part where Shang Tsung took his family, doesn't have to be a wife and child. I understand they want to draw parallels once Baraka got his own chapter to spare Syzoth, but the "family" can be...his own parents or relatives. Maybe he used to have brothers or sisters, knowing reptilians lay eggs in batches, even off-season and for crocodiles, whether the baby is gonna be male or female is decided according to temperature of environments where the egg was laid.
And to a case of Komodo Dragon, the hatchlings would immediately climb trees because the parents tend to cannibalize their own babies, which works well to Syzoth's narrative of being "the odd one's out" on a constant survival mode from birth, because...even his parents didn't want him, but he didn't know that so he often blame himself for showing his human form one time and wished he never did, while also thinking that living with humans as a Zaterran with the ability to look "human" is a psychological torture on itself, considering his diet consist of bugs or even human flesh to some extent.
We could keep the traveling part because he would stumble on Shang Tsung currently on his travel to look for some ingredients of his drugs and thought that guy could probably "cure" his affliction, and helped him with his researches through any means; either stealing some shit or kill some shit. He didn't care about the consequences for as long as he believed Shang Tsung can help him, to the point of General Shao trusting them with Mileena's treatment...
...until Shang Tsung decided to stab him on the back by using Syzoth's abilities against him—staging murders in favor or General Shao and throws all the blame at him, giving an excuse for General Shao and his men to hold Syzoth's family in hostage, to the point of our main Story Mode.
Syzoth was like "You promised to cure me. We had a deal!"
But Shang Tsung was like, "There was never a cure, Syzoth. You're just born like that. Oh, and I got rid of your family. They never want you anyway."
Syzoth, holding a pent up anger, really wants to take it on Shang Tsung, but he's already gone. No family, no home, and nowhere to go. He was in a conflict, not only with Shang Tsung, but also with himself. He hates that Shang manipulated him, but he also hates to accept that his family never loved him for what he is, only for another person to abuse him again...for what he is and what he can do. He's constantly living in fear of being alienated, so he did everything he knew to gain some sort of validation, or even affection, only to make things worse on his end. His journey was for him to learn not only to accept the multiple facets of himself, but also a healthier relationship with others.
Especially knowing this would align much better with his Tower Ending. Though on my personal Headcanon, he got a job as Royal Emissary to bridge a connection between Outworld and Earthrealm, where Kenshi's "Special Forces" route comes in.
Though a personal story of how I end up shipping Syzoth and Kenshi, is gonna be a separate story to tell

Been quite a while since I did more portraits! This time have Lisa Garland, one of Silent Hill 1's most tragic characters, and who, in my opinion, has the most cinematic death of all. The impact of Silent Hill on me is just.... intense, for lack of a better word. It was once a series that felt so distant to me, being so terrified to try out horror games and so I can only admire it from afar and read fics of it even though there's so much context I am missing. It was in 2021 when I finally gave the games a whirl, and playing SH1 and seeing that iconic Lisa bleeding scene haunted me. Still does. I saw it first when I watched a playthrough for nearly a decade ago, and while it did freak me out, it was also morbidly beautiful at the same time. The 3D animation artist, Takayoshi Sato, who did all of the CG cutscenes ALL BY HIMSELF, is a goddamn hero.
By the way I did this portrait on the Xiaomi Pad 6 which I got only yesterday, and so it's quite the big adjustment and it's why it kinda looks a little different from what I've drawn so far. It's really fun! I know I will still be using my Huion tablet for bigger pieces, but it's fun drawing on something else without having to plug my computer in every damn time. Can't wait to do more practice sketches on this baby! Did the sketch/lineart on HiPaint and did the rendering/final touches on Krita's Android version!

Jason the Toymaker x Reader who is terrified of toys
When you were little, you were already sort of creeped out by some toys. Those dolls with huge and doe-y eyes, the Halloween typical toys and even some badly manufactured plushies were enough to make you cry.
But it all kicked in tenfold when you watched Toy Story for the first time.
Maybe it was the bad 3d renders that helped it, but the thought of your toys walking around by themselves, while you were asleep or not on your room, it made you shiver and almost have a panic attack.
You coped with this extreme fear you got, by getting rid of every toy you had, with the excuse that you were too old for them.
When you ended up meeting Jason, when you were already a grown adult, you were in a trance by his odd looking outfit and hair, and his different personality.
He was different than anybody you've met, and you made sure to keep in contact with the man, since he was actually kinda cute with that mahogany hair and Amber eyes.
One day, he invited you to see his shop. He never really told you that he had a shop, much less what it was about, but the surprises from him were always pleasant, so you accepted.
Oh boy how you regretted it.
When you saw just the front of it, your heart dropped to your feet, and you started sweating.
'no no no no no no no'
Jason seemed proud to show you his shop and the toys he made, dragging you inside without even noticing how bad you were feeling.
It must've taken a solid 15 minutes before you knees failed you, and you fell down.
You felt as if the big shelves of toys would fall on top of you, but Jason finally noticed your face and tears. Fucking finally, took him long enough.
"What's wrong? Did you not like the baby dolls? I have plushies, if you prefer them, or some beautiful wooden cars, i carved them myself."
You didn't want to make him feel bad, but you had to say, so you told about this trauma you had.
He felt... A lot of emotions. First surprise for you not telling him, then sadness for you not sharing his passion, but he pushed the negative emotions he felt, and brought you to the back, past his workshop, to the little room he slept.
He quickly put the toys he had there on his workshop, and left you in the room, promising you some calming tea.
He decided that day, that he needed to help you with this trouble. He would NOT leave his dream, the toys he worked so hard his whole life to make.
But he could help you overcome little by little. It was not like he was gonna give up this soon on you. You did help him on some hard times of his.
He just needed to make sure he was not gonna overwhelm you. You were as precious to him as she was, so he couldn't let go. Not now.
I hope you enjoy Sam! This was really fun to write!

Aquaman II second viewing (major spoilers).
Saw it again, honestly enjoyed it more, or at least found more positives and less to criticize. I got surprisingly choked up during the scene between Aquaman, Orm, and their mother, and when Mera saves Aquaman*, despite having seen it before.
While the performances were probably better in the first film, I think I was too hard on the cast overall, and too easy on Momoa. Momoa brings energy but little else unless you like his DudeBro persona (I emphatically do not). He overacts at times, and his comedic delivery is not great. Wilson and Abdul-Mateen II were standouts. Randall Park's character is likeable. Amber Heard has very little opportunity to really act but uses what she has well (I compared her reaction's to the baby's abduction to Momoa's, and found her's far more believably genuine).
I was irked the first time around by the Aquaman vs the Council plot, as I felt it was a pro-monarchy, anti-democracy narrative. And I suppose that's there somewhat, as it probably would be to some extent in any film with a vigilante king as the protagonist. But while the film doesn't delve deeply into it, on second viewing the council seems more likely to be a council of Nobel houses than a true legislature (IIRC its called the Council of Houses).
I also paid more attention to the incorporation of Maori culture and language into the film, as part of the characterizations of Aquaman and his father. This may be somewhat controversial as Momoa is not himself Maori (though he is Polynesian), but Temeura Morrison is.
I also feel better about the pacing and editing, though it's still uneven and abrupt at times. The abruptness of the final fight against Korda is somewhat mitigated, and rendered less anti-climactic, both by the fact that he is largely a plot device/dark mirror for Orm in the film anyway, and the fact that he possesses both Manta and Orm in the climax- by the time he appears "in the flesh", he's already fought the heroes. Granted this raises an interesting question of how much of Manta's actions in the climax, and throughout the film, were really Manta.
Something that occurred to me before but which I'll highlight now re the infamous cockroach joke- it may have been intended as simply a dumb joke at Orm's expense, but its rendered somewhat ambiguous, and interesting, by the fact that many cultures on Earth actually do eat various insects (including, from some quick Googling, the Maori)- it is Western prejudice, similar to Orm's which Arthur is rebuking, that makes this seem disgusting or embarrassing to the audience.
Lastly Mera really does seem like an equal to Aquaman or Orm in the fight scenes, not a "damsel in distress" or even a sidekick. She saves Aquaman repeatedly, is just as effective taking out henchmen, nearly takes down Manta at the start of the film, and does take him down at the end. She has less screen time, of course, and Aquaman gets the climactic confrontation with possessed Orm/Kordax, but when she's in a fight she is as competent and powerful as any other character.
One final note, at least for now: having accidentally seen it in 3D, I can say its probably not worth it. If this film is any indication, 3D remains a gimmick which comes at the expense of the film's visual quality in other ways, in particular darker lighting. Granted, this impression may be due partly due to my personal preference, quality of vision, and the fact that I was wearing a mask and my breath kept fogging the glasses.

That's right, it's once again COMPLAIN ABOUT YOSHI'S DESIGN O'CLOCK!
So I was playing the Akenia Build of Super Smash Bros Melee, which has all the trophies unlocked. The thing that made me a huge Nintendo fan in the first place, rather than just a Mario one, was admiring the trophies in that game, so I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane... and then I noticed something.
The trophies you get from classic mode are usually just models ripped right out of promotional material, rather than beingtheir in game model. We all know Yoshi looks closer to a mix between Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island in Melee.

I like this design more than his modern design by a lot but I admit it still has it's problems that make it tough to look at for today's standards. His lower jaw is kinda fucked up and his eyes may be a bit too bugged out. I get why modern audiences wouldn't like him... but anyway, moving on.
His classic mode trophy is literally just the model from Yoshi Story.

So, I have many issues with this design. A lot of them have to do with the body. I excused it in Yoshi Story, because those Yoshis were supposed to be babies. I think someone at Nintendo forgot that detail and we've been stuck with stubby Yoshi ever since. But i'm not talking about the body. It's that ridiculous nose. It's so big and it looks like you can pluck it off because, when you turn Yoshi in profile, you can see a visible seam where his nose connects to his face. Let me show you an example from his newest render, Super Mario Wonder.

Now... a lot of people see Yoshi in Mario Wonder and say "ohh he looks much better, his proportions are closer to Super Mario World" and while I agree he's improved, he is still kinda far off from being Mario World. I wish his tail was just slightly longer, and his arms and hands just a smidge smaller. But it's a big glow up... the problem is still the nose. Do you see the seam?? I feel like I can pop it off like a green grape right off the vine.
But back to melee.. look at this.

His Yoshi Story model didn't have the seam in his nose??? Or at the very least Sakurai decided to smooth it out when converting the Yoshi Story render into a model for the trophy. Why did they intentionally maintain that seam for all these years? He doesn't have it in his 2D artwork, but all his 3D models have it...seemingly intentionally? Nintendo please, get rid of it!!
Do you know how happy I would be to have this head on top of Super Mario Wonder Yoshi's body. I would never complain about Yoshi again ( this is a lie but I wouldn't complain about his design at the very least).

sometimes I get a little emotional thinking about the history of cgi. Like, when John Lasseter saw Tron he had a nerd moment and wanted to make an entire movie like that... which ended up becoming Toy Story! Sad he had to be a creep and ruin his entire career, but apart from that I relate to that.
When I saw things like Monsters Inc and Dinosaur I wanted to do it too but it was all too complicated back then. My uncle let me play around in Sketchup but that went nowhere.
Also, Donkey Kong Country. My first introduction to pre-rendered graphics. The fact they had to model everything and THEN go over on a piece of paper and use painstaking pixel art to convert it for SNES. Thank goodness it worked out and DKC became one of the best selling games on the SNES.
I highly recommend checking out Kev Bayliss' videos on CGI art, he's a great guy and does super interesting videos about the history of his work. He did all these renders AND designed the modern DK design at Rare when he was 19, afaik. NINETEEN. Absolute madlad. I hope to meet him someday. His DK design only ever got minimal changes over the years - he got bulked up a bit and.... recently gained an actual nose, for some reason. Imagine that!
Blender before 2.8 was a hot mess and only tech nerds knew how to work it. Thankfully, that's different now.
I'm SO thankful for Blender. The fact it's free and open source and does about everything Maya does, some things even better (hello, painting straight on the model?) so now anyone can pick it up and get into 3d modelling. Yeah, it takes a while to get into it, but when you do it's so rewarding. CGI is my baby. Ton Roosendaal is my hero.
