Read to Me - Chevalier Michel x Reader (Ikemen Prince)

“Read to me?” you asked your love, smiling sweetly as you held the book out to him.

He smirked as he took the book from your hands, his gloved finger tracing the engraved lettering on the cover. “Midnight Cinderella,” he murmured softly. You watched him as he gazed upon the book in his hands, his blue eyes warm pools of water, the curve of  his smile soft and human,  certain he was remembering the first time he gave it to you to read. Back when your love for one another was just a flower bud, not quite ready yet to blossom into the beautiful rose it would one day become.

“You’ve always enjoyed this book,” he commented while opening it to where your bookmark was, his ice blue eyes flicking up to meet yours.

“Yes, I have.” You had never told him that this particular book held a special spot in your heart, a large part being that it was one he had given you. It was part of your love story, back when Chevalier would barge into your room, claiming to need a quiet space to read. As you both read in the peace of your room, day after day, night after night, the seeds of love were soon sowed. 

Resting his head on your lap, he stretched his long legs on the blanket you had set out for your picnic. As he started to read, you leaned back against the trunk of the cherry blossom tree, its canopy providing the perfect amount of shade for your afternoon lunch. Your eyes drifted closed, Chevalier’s deep voice rich and soothing, your hand absentmindedly stroking his silky locks.

A gentle breeze blew by, lulling you to a light sleep, Chevalier’s words dancing in your head in fantastical dream-like images. Awoken by the aroma of fresh strawberries, your eyelids fluttered, finding Chevalier smiling at you, teasing your lips with the berry. 

You made a face at him, curious as to why he was waking you with a berry.

“Can’t I pamper you?” He stared at you seriously for a moment, waiting for your reaction. When none was forthcoming, for you knew your lover better than that and could tell when he was teasing, he huffed a laugh. “You were hungry,” he replied nonchalantly. 

Averting your gaze, your hand mindlessly rubbed your belly, mortification settling in as you hoped your stomach did not growl too loudly.

“Eat,” he coaxed, probing your lips apart with the tip of the berry. The taste sweet on your tongue, you took a bite and closed your eyes, the luscious juices swirling in your mouth tasting absolutely divine. 

His eyes darkened, locking on yours, as he clumsily wiped your lips with his thumb, slipping his digit inside your mouth tickling your tongue. Your eyes widened and your breath hitched as he teased you, your expression soon relaxing, thankful to be hidden under the safety of the tree’s canopy. 

As sudden as he started, he stopped, abruptly removing his hand. A smile spread on his lips, pleased with himself that he elicited such a reaction from you so quickly. 

Chevalier returned to his spot, his head nestled on your lap, and resumed reading the book aloud, as if the past few minutes never happened. Your heartbeat still quickened, you took a few calming deep breaths, reminding yourself that soon enough it would be evening and such activities could be resumed.

Your mind wandering elsewhere, you threaded your fingers through his hair, noting to yourself how handsome he looked under the sunlight. 

When he reached the end of the chapter, he put the book down and rolled over on his side, propping his head on his hand. 

"You liked that, didn't you," he said softly. Your heart filled with warmth as he pressed an awkward kiss onto your navel, your growing belly hidden under the layers of your skirt. 

"I think you enjoyed it more," you replied. My book lover, you added silently in your head. 

Ever since informing Chevalier that he was to be a father, he had taken time out each day to read to his unborn child. Morning, noon, or night, he managed to squeeze in even a few pages. 

Watching him share his love of books made you fall in love with him more and more each day, your heart filling with an overwhelming, unconditional love as Chevalier changed once more, from human to future parent. 

Offering you his hand, he helped you get up, your afternoon away almost over. After gathering what was left of your picnic, you walked away hand in hand, as pale pink flower petals danced in the air.
