“We’re never going to sleep again. Ever,” Hermione said from her end of the circuit around the kitchen, before Draco could head into the conservatory detour that Neville had suggested might at least help with their mental health, if it did nothing to aid in the ultimate goal of the twins sleeping for more than an hour at a time. She’d had to raise her voice a little, so Draco could hear her over the babies’ crying, but she couldn’t get too loud or strident, because then the crying would become howling on Rose’s part and a glass-shattering shriek on Scorpius’s. Any significant pausing in walking yielded the same response. 

“If you agreed, we could get a House—” Draco began. Again. His grey joggers were low around his hips, his feet bare, a ratty tee-shirt that couldn’t be made any rattier by regurgitated milk thrown on hastily when she’d called him from the nursery.

“Don’t start the ‘House-elves make perfectly fine nannies, see how I turned out argument.’ You know how I feel about it, even if we paid an exorbitant amount, and though I love you dearly, I wouldn’t say the nannying you received did you any favors at Hogwarts. You were a preening little prat for the first few years, when there was some pretense we were children and not pawns,” Hermione replied. “I also don’t want to hear about Black family magicks that would do the trick, either from you or your mother.”

“We’re not following Molly Weasley’s advice and using gin,” Draco said, patting Scorpius on the back in a rhythm that seemed to soothe their son. Or it didn’t and they were deluding themselves. Sleep deprivation could do that to a person, Hermione recalled, from a time when she had done research in a library, wearing a clean jersey and drinking a cup of tea hot from the pot, not stewed and cold and generally disgusting but charmed not to grow Wizarding penicillin on the surface. 

“She might have meant we should drink the gin, not that we’d dose the babies, now that I think about it. It’s all fuzzy when I look back,” Hermione said. 

“I hate gin,” Draco said. “Simply loathe the stuff.”

“I know. I remember that about you. From a time when we had drinks on a trolley in the sitting room or went to the pub,” Hermione said. He liked wine, preferably red and full-bodied, though he’d get a pint of Guinness if they went out with friends. He’d rather drink Butterbeer than a G&T and forget about a martini, dirty or otherwise. Her craving for cocktail onions had been rather a sore point during her pregnancy, though he’d fetched them and learned not to turn up his nose at her when she ate a jar’s worth in a sitting.

“What’s a pub?” Draco said wryly. 

Scorpius squawked. If his Patronus wasn’t some avian species, Hermione would eat her hat. She’d have to fit her traditional pointed witch’s hat first, but then she’d eat it. Maybe she’d chase it with a Gibson.

“Shh, darling boy, it’s all right, Papa’s got you,” Draco murmured, brushing his lips against Scorpius’ wispy blond curls. 

Despite the screaming and the exhaustion and the near-constant desire to hex her earlier overly confident and entirely wrong self, the one who’d said things like, twins won’t be so terribly difficult and maybe it’s more efficient to have them together, the babies can keep each other company and they won’t be lonely when they went off to Hogwarts, really, it was a blessing to have twins first, Hermione couldn’t help melting a little whenever she heard Draco talking to their babies, especially when he referred to himself as Papa. She opened her mouth to say something fond and tender, but Scorpius yelped and gurgled and Draco sighed.

“Another geyser. Perhaps we should get those disposable cloths Potter was on about, since we can’t risk Vanishing the spit-up,” he said. Spells around magical infants could be dicey and with a mother as powerful as Hermione, they’d had to play it extra safe.

“He’ll be hungry now,” Hermione said, not even bothering to answer the remark about the burp cloths. Once, her mind had been filled with complex runic equations and the Zaragosta variations on the Berenicean charm progression. Now, she was too tired to even spend one neuron’s worth of attention on the question of burp cloths.

“Time to trade,” Draco said. 

Hermione walked over to the rocking chair, settling Rose on her lap for a moment. The novelty of the perspective change would buy about 90 seconds of relative quiet. Draco came over, put Scorpius into the crook of Hermione’s arm and scooped up Rose. His exceptional Quidditch skills were being put to this exclusive use but Hermione suspected both the babies would be avid players, Rose the more likely Seeker. She fiddled a bit with her top and got Scorpius latched on, stroking his plump cheek very lightly so he wouldn’t get distracted and fall off, screaming with frustration. Nursing, he looked very serious, like Draco drafting a response to the Chinese delegation.

“Now, then, ma chére Mademoiselle Rose, let’s take a turn about the room and let Mummy take care of Scorpius,” Draco said. Rose made a series of noises which weren’t quite cries and could possibly be a language no adult was fluent in.

“Molly said it won’t always be this way,” Hermione offered. Scorpius was growing dozy against her breast, still nursing but with less vigor. He’d fall asleep this way but they’d probably only get an hour of rest from him and Rose’s hazel eyes were alert, peering over Draco’s shoulder.

“She would know. Circe’s garters, seven of them. It doesn’t bear contemplating,” Draco said. “My mother says we ought to be grateful, two healthy babies, no sign either will be a Squib, and I am. I am grateful and I love them—”

“You’d just like to get a full night’s sleep,” Hermione said. The first week, the babies had been drowsy and they’d had to wake them to nurse. It had been the right thing to do and Hermione still couldn’t believe they’d done it. Rose had gone nearly five hours when she was four days old and Hermione had faffed about writing thank-you cards for the new baby gifts and peering into the cradle to make sure Rose was breathing when she could have followed directions and slept when the baby slept, letting Draco be the one on duty to make sure the twins were awakened to feed. 

“I’d take four hours,” Draco said. 

“Three would do me,” Hermione yawned. Draco kept walking, Rose on his shoulder, and Hermione drifted for a bit, lost somewhere between dream and memory.

“You thought it would all go away when we came home. That it wasn’t real,” she said.

“Well, I was a fool and also besotted with you and hadn’t had a good night’s sleep for about ten days,” he said. “Also, we were faking being married. I was your fake-husband.”

“This is real,” she said. She shifted Scorpius to her shoulder, patting his back until he burped, praying he’d stay asleep through it. Draco smiled, too wise to risk laughter.

“It’s as real as it gets, love,” he said. Rose grizzled a bit but lowered her head, her silky dark curls shining against his fair skin, the faint silver stubble of his five-o’clock-now-three-am-shadow. He was tall and fit and terribly kind, terribly clever; he’d do anything for the three of them and he’d gotten her all those jars of pickled pearl onions and had snogged her silly when she had Gibson-breath. He had turned out well after all…

“I might have been overly rigid about the House-Elf proposal,” she said. “A few nights can’t do any harm and we’ll make sure they have exceptional benefits, a pension. The villa in Majorca—”

TEN AND ROSE: WERE THEY HAVING SEX?

Disclaimer: I absolutely support people writing whatever makes them happy; this is NOT a criticism of ten x rose smutfic/established relationship/babyfic etc, I’ve read and enjoyed several of those, this is simply my reading of their canon relationship.

Every once in a while, the Rose Tyler tag sees text posts about how, obviously, Ten and Rose were sleeping together throughout Series 2, as evidenced by their absolutely sizzling chemistry in episodes such as New Earth and Tooth and Claw.

Most of them are usually in good humour—a “can you BELIEVE this chemistry” sort of thing, but there does exist a genuine belief among some that they really were sexually intimate already.

So, let's examine this canonically, from a Tentoo lens.

Were they having sex?

Short answer: No.

Long answer?

Throughout Series 1, we pick up on hints of the Ninth Doctor’s feelings for Rose growing, as well as Rose beginning to have feelings for the Doctor. It’s quite subtle in comparison to Series 2; here’s two great friends beginning to fall in love—flirting and bantering and getting jealous of other love interests xD. It’s not a very explicit romance (and this is why Rose haters tend to prefer NineRose, but that’s a conversation for another day) but it is heavily implied, and it is sealed with a kiss in The Parting of the Ways.

When Rose looks into the heart of the TARDIS and comes back for the Doctor, this romance is made explicit. When the Doctor dies to take the vortex out of Rose, the romance is made explicit. This is no longer a crush, or simple endearment, they’re in love.

The Tenth Doctor is born out of this love. He now knows the extent of Rose’s feelings, and he knows just how far she is willing to go for him. (This is a blessing and a curse, but we’ll come back to that some other time.)

Rose’s immediate reaction to seeing Ten is asking him to change back—(something that noticeably distresses him—the fact that she might not like him anymore). She spends the entirety of The Christmas Invasion mourning him, (which is fair since he never told her the tiny little detail of his ability to regenerate. Sigh.) and only really comes around to him at the end of that episode. We can safely assume, then, that they haven’t had sex.

In New Earth, they’re still very much relearning their dynamic—how do they work together, fit together now? We learn that Rose is physically attracted to the Tenth Doctor, thanks to Cassandra, and Rose's slightly mortified reaction at hearing this from him implies that there's been no confession of the sort to him.

You could argue that maybe something happened off-screen between Episodes 2 and 3, but as Ally on the tentoo x rose server pointed out, that would be shoddy writing. A physical relationship amongst the main two leads that is never even alluded to with a chaste kiss, is odd. So we can assume this major development didn't happen.

Tooth and Claw, the one episode that is constantly subject to 'they were totally shagging' discourse, has exceptionally flirty energy, yes, but this is because Ten and Rose are both very tactile people. Make no mistake, they definitely are flirting and being more touchy-feely than strictly necessary, but it would be narratively inconsistent for the reason for this behaviour to be 'they were having sex.'

Why?

I'd like to point out this dialogue we get from Queen Victoria:

This moment is extremely important; it plants the seeds for the proper beginning of one of the main themes of S2, which is the biggest reason the two of them are not constantly shagging in the TARDIS.

From this point on, something has been re-awakened in the Doctor, the fear of outliving someone he loves again.

We have to remember the Doctor is a severely traumatised man, a man who has outlived his entire species, and the idea of this girl he loves dying and leaving him alone is unbearable.

In School Reunion we get this spelt out for us. The Doctor sees Sarah Jane again, and reality strikes. This will be Rose, one day. There’s a key confrontation that takes place in this episode, an argument that remains unresolved because there are certain things Ten cannot bring himself to say.

DOCTOR: I don't age. I regenerate. But humans decay. You wither and you die. Imagine watching that happen to someone who you…

ROSE: What, Doctor?

There is a later confrontation in the same episode, where the Doctor is tempted with the idea of never having to see anyone wither and die again.

Even the infamous The Girl in the Fireplace doubles down on these themes--the Doctor's immortality. Time running out.

The Age of Steel two-parter brings with it the “gingerbread house”. Things we want which we cannot have.

This, in fact, is the crux of their entire relationship, folks. The incompatible lifespans. Rose's mortality. Untapped desire. The unsaid.

This is why it's important and impactful that Rose, on the last day she gets to see the Doctor, ever, plucks up the courage to actually put words to what she feels. This is why the unfinished confession in Doomsday hurts so much. Because they finally, finally took that plunge but it was too late.

Assuming that they've been in a physically intimate relationship all the while takes away from the gravity of this moment.

(Not to mention it's super exploitative, considering the inherent power dynamics. To think Ten had sex with Rose all that time--entirely aware of her feelings--and didn't have the decency to say he loved her and then proceeded to force her to choose between him and another version of himself...is problematic.)

I would go as far as saying it's a fundamentally wrong reading of their entire relationship, and of the Doctor himself.

I've seen people say the "baby scare" in Doomsday is proof that they'd been physically intimate, but it is, quite obviously the Doctor being afraid Rose was pregnant with Mickey's baby, not his.

DOCTOR: You've still got Mister Mickey, then? ROSE: There's five of us now. Mum, Dad, Mickey and the baby. DOCTOR: You're not?

He is, in his not so subtle way, trying to figure out if Rose is back with Mickey. It only hammers in the fact that he's missed his chance---not that the child might be his.

DOCTOR: Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth. You're dead, officially, back home. So many people died that day and you've gone missing. You're on a list of the dead. Here you are, living a life day after day. The one adventure I can never have. ROSE: Am I ever going to see you again? DOCTOR: You can't.

Again, the narrative hammers this in. Their time is up. Rose will inevitably move on one day, without him.

All this to say…

TenRose in Series 2 is a tale of what could be. Of missed opportunities, and the lives and love we could have had.

But why is this important?

In order to understand Tentoo and Journey's End, it is vital we understand this aspect of TenRose. The yearning, the skirting around feelings in the room, the denial of gratification on Ten's part. The desire he cannot give in to.

Because Tentoo is the realisation of this desire. He is the second chance.

He is the embodiment of the Doctor grabbing hold of his one, short life and deciding to live it to the fullest. Tentoo is making a choice here--a choice to truly love Rose the way he has ached to do for years. This is why it's significant that he was able to get the words out while Ten wasn't.

This is why Rose chooses him.

This snippet of an email RTD received from Pete Bower sums it up extremely eloquently:

“In having one Doctor grieve for his lost love, while the other Doctor went off with that same lost love, you have written of that moment we all have where we make a choice. It is grieving for the love we never had (and the sex we never had) because of the choices we made.”

Incredibles 3 Sorta Kinda Wishlist

I have a lot of thoughts about Inc 2 but I decided to leave them in the past, is Inc 3 going to be what I wanted Inc 2 to be? Well...

A lot wanted/expected the second to be a time skip from the first when the kids are older, I get it, I'd like that but I think I understand why it wasn't treated that way. Incredibles is very specific, we see the period where superheroes are a thing and when there was an absence, that's sort of the gimmick. I feel like if Inc 2 didn't time skip then Inc 3 isn't going to either unless it's an end sequence, it just seems weird to cap off a trilogy that way.

Oh...well, maybe, I didn't entirely rule it out but should we skip forward, we're sort of denying that opportunity that heroes will rise again and just skip right into it and deny Inc 2 of building that up. Besides, let's be honest, how many cared for those hero rejects in Inc 2? I remember Voyd...uhhhh, brick man! But we ALLLL remember Gazerbeam, right? Anyways, I think that should be more held for the end anyways because for me, Inc 2 was an 'of the moment' type of thing.

I tried to analyze how it exactly I feel about it versus a Marvel movie and you could argue that the first came out in a time where we had a few superhero movies, Spider-Man and X-Men for starters but it wasn't as common to see that as it is now, you can go to the theaters pretty much any given time now and nearly guarantee that a superhero movie will be playing but I'm going to argue against that because if you were to take a Marvel fan and show them the Incredibles today for the first time, I have a hard time believing that they won't think it special. Skipping into the era of superheroes WILL just make it a Marvel movie.

Another thing I kind of expect/hope to see is a fleshing out of the style or the "Andytization"

I mean, you know, they changed his character and everything and his build is more shaped like the rest of the cast but I just feel different when I see the two side by side

And I like vibrant lighting, heck, I just made a post about it not too long ago but the way it is in Inc 2 is...it's just too much

but I for one want to see where this Violet relationship goes, how does she navigate school and secret superheroing and a boyfriend...she's like Kim Possible to me. And Dash with sports and all that but to be honest, I care to see new superhero themed activities, like in the first movie, we see Bob and Dash playing long distance catch and Bob lifting a train to weightlift, it's fun.

The babyfication of the merchandising with Jack-Jack and the raccoon went WAYYYY overboard before, I even see it today, like Jack-Jack had his own short in the first film but he wasn't the star of the show. I think I saw more of him than I did of the literal star Elastigirl, like-

Make it well ROUNDED, no more "I need to succeed so that she can succeed so that we can succeed." I want our cast to have learned that they're a family and need to act as such through the movie, no coming together of the third act, we're already well acquainted, it's no surprise.

Another worry I have is Michael Giacchino. Sure, I've liked his tracks as of late, every now and then he drops a banger but nothing will ever stack up to the soundtrack of the first Incredibles movie that literally went to define part of my life so far. What did I walk out to when I got dressed for Prom?!

I don't remember Inc 2 whipping out anything like that. And Michael's been at it, really deep into Marvel, in fact, he's doing Fantastic Four which is uh, eerily similar to the atmosphere of the Incredibles (I didn't listen to the theme from D23 yet, I'm holding off) but it scares me to think that he's putting out so much that Inc 3 won't get that banger soundtrack, I just don't want him to think where he's came from...oh, he started in video games? Well, after that.

Now the villain, I want to see the place in ruin. We've somewhat seen how to superhero when the world doesn't want saved but what about the ridicule, people hating superheroes because they draw too much attraction and so forth. That sort of goes against what was established by the last two endings which I'd really hate to retcon anything but I like that plot.

We haven't gotten a superpowered villain yet (I don't think the Underminer is) and I'm fine with not getting one here, I will feel a bit cheated if we get the Underminer but that IS a thread left unresolved.

A/N: Not sure how to tag this one, since the overall work will eventually be a Twelve x River babyfic. However, the first two chapters are a kind of prologue, and rewrite of “The Return of Dr. Mysterio.”

** Grant hadn’t expected to feel angry when he saw Dr. Mysterio again. Although frankly, after eighteen years of radio silence, he hadn’t expected to see Dr. Mysterio again at all.

As a child, he’d waited for the Doctor to return. Once he realized that the gemstone hadn’t “passed,” surely he would begin training Grant to use his powers responsibly. Like a Scottish Mr. Miyagi. Grant knew he needed that sort of guidance before deliberately using his powers. He didn’t want to break things, scare people, or get the cops called on him. He definitely didn’t want to attract the attentions of any supervillains. (If those even existed.)

 But the days went by with no sign of the Doctor. Then the weeks. Then the months… When Dr. Mysterio finally did turn up again- after six and a half years!- he was less Mr. Miyagi, more frazzled study hall teacher who’d caught a favorite student with their Gameboy out. Just shut it off, put it away, and I’ll roll my eyes and pretend I saw nothing.

 It was then that Grant fully realized that Dr. Mysterio had given him superpowers by mistake. A mistake that he wasn’t going to bother fixing.

 And now, after another eighteen years, he’d come back to lecture Grant on responsibility towards children?

 “No man worthy of the title leaves a baby alone.”

 Grant stumbled down the hall, still reeling from the G-forces of flight. The Doctor strode out ahead of him, Jennifer cooing contentedly in his arms. Strange, the Doctor didn’t seem the type to have a soft spot for kids. He’d talked to eight-year-old Grant like an adult, and guessed his age wrong. Very wrong, if Grant remembered correctly.

 “Your powers don’t belong in this world,” the Doctor declared. “They’re an anomaly.”

 Grant sighed to himself. Tell me something I don’t know.

 “You promised me you’d never use them.”

 A promise Grant had done his best to keep for the first fifteen years he’d been stuck with superpowers! Through grade school, high school, college, the early steps of a dull and respectable career. Until he was laid off in the Great Recession, the same week that Lucy married his ex-best friend…

 After numbly leaving his ex-employer’s, Grant had gone for an easy little jog- and found himself halfway down Long Island in less than an hour. Following a week of frantically Googling “super speed jogger” and finding nothing relevant, he realized:

 He was an adult now. A certified, clueless, 23-year-old adult. An anonymous figure in the sea of humanity that was New York. He could become who he felt destined to be and, at least at the beginning, face little pushback or risk.

 Like his 401k, or cooking for himself, he started small. He babysat his cousins and took a childcare class by day. He bought a mask and thwarted gas station robberies by night. He took his old comic books out of storage.

 And now, nine years later…

 “I’m her nanny,” he said proudly, as the Doctor handed Jennifer back to him. “You got a problem with that?”

 “No! No, I just… You’re a superhero and a nanny?”

 “Well you gotta make a buck somehow,” Grant muttered. Part of him meant to say, I’ve gotta make a life somehow, but holding Jennifer took the edge off his anger.

 The Doctor’s short, sanguine friend (Nardole, wasn’t it?) appeared, with a surprisingly perfect milk bottle for Jennifer. Grant fed and rocked her while the Doctor continued to lecture him on work-life balance.

 “I’m me, The Doctor, and even I think this is insane. When do you sleep? When are you not on-call?”

 “What do you care?” Grant retorted. “You left me here, alone. You only ever checked in to make sure I was lying low. Do you know how many Christmas Eves I waited up, hoping you’d swing by my window again? Do you realize how much that made my childhood Christmases suck?”

 “Grant, I am sorry. Truly I am. But I can’t just pop back in to New York whenever-“

 “Why not? Dude, it’s been twenty-four years and you haven’t aged a day! That thing on the roof- it had to do with time travel, didn’t it?”

 “Well, yes, but New York is-“

 “Shh!” Grant held up his hand.

 Even without super hearing, he still would have heard Lucy’s key in the front door. He was forever attuned to that sound, in desperate foolish hope. Hope that today he would have the courage to tell her… well, at least one of the two big things.

 “You ruined my life once,” he told the Doctor quietly. “Please, just- try not to do it again.”

 “Did it really ruin your life? The gemstone?”

 Grant looked up with a start, knocking Jennifer’s Cheerios off her highchair. The Doctor and Nardole stood in Lucy’s (somehow open) front door. Perfect. Scottish Miyagi’s nowhere to be found for eighteen years, and now he’s turning up at 8 AM, unannounced.

 “We brought breakfast!” chirped Nardole, holding up a bag as he trailed the Doctor into the dining room. Just then Lucy appeared, in her usual workday morning frenzy, scrambling for her work badge while pulling back her hair. Grant’s super sense of smell was flooded with the scent of her shower gel. Her eyes widened when she spotted the bakery name on the bag.

 “Common Grounds! Nice! Got any scones?”

 Nardole dug into the bag and produced a chocolate chip scone. Grant knew chocolate chip happened to be Lucy’s favorite. “Here you go, ma’am.”

 “Mahm,” she mimicked, giggling. “I like you!” She pointed at the Doctor, surprisingly fierce for a woman wielding a blunt-edge pastry. “You are not off the hook. Remember Mr. Huffle.”

 Nardole set the bag on the table, and he and the Doctor began laying out a breakfast spread worthy of a family of eight. Lucy started the Keurig, while Jennifer babbled amiably in her highchair. Grant grabbed Lucy’s empty bowl and headed for the kitchen.

 “Don’t bother with that cereal,” said the Doctor. “She wants what we’re having. I’ve got it covered.”

 Grant turned back and sure enough, the wild-haired eccentric was dissembling a blueberry muffin into baby-friendly crumbles. Grant was impressed despite himself.

 “Since when are you good with kids?”

 “I’m taking a class. Also, I speak baby.” It was a testament to the Doctor’s sheer weirdness that the two statements seemed equally credible.

 Lucy brushed past Grant at the kitchen doorway. “Are you sure you’re okay to watch Jennifer tonight?”

 Grant could practically feel the Doctor’s glare boring into the back of his head. He ignored it. “I’m positive, Mrs. Lombard. My d- dinner was just a social thing. Yours is for work; that comes first.”

 Jennifer squealed as the Doctor presented her with the plate of muffin crumbs. Her joy was contagious, even to the Doctor himself. He smiled gently and told her, “You’re very welcome, young lady.”

 “Do you have kids, Doctor? Grandkids?” Lucy asked.

 Nardole smiled up at the Doctor: a sort of knowing, meaningful smile.

 “Don’t I look too young for grandkids?” he replied.

 No one answered that.

 They made it through breakfast without further incident. No mention of Harmony Shoal, Grant’s cancelled “date,” or wish-granting, DNA-altering space gems. Although Lucy looked personally offended on behalf of Common Grounds Café when the Doctor spit out his first bite of their Everything Bagel.

 “What’s wrong?” she demanded.

 “Thought I wanted savory. I thought wrong. Hard to keep track these days.”

 Lucy squinted thoughtfully, but let it slide. She filled her travel mug with coffee, kissed Jennifer on the head, then headed off to work. Grant listened with his super-hearing until she’d caught the hall elevator and descended several floors. The Doctor waited, staring him down like a grumpy owl.

 “The gemstone…” Grant sighed. “It didn’t ruin my life, it just changed it. A lot. Sure, it’d be easier if I wasn’t the only person on Earth who’s been through this, but… I’ve learned to make the best of it.”

 “Grant, I’m-“

 “No. You don’t have to apologize again, Doctor. I mean, what good would it do? It’s not like we can unravel it from my DNA.”

 “Well that’s just the thing.”

 The Doctor reached into the silk lining of his jacket and produced a small vial. The liquid inside glowed an eerie shade of green.

 “I think, perhaps, that we can.”

F and X please 🔥😈

F. canon fics or au?

Okay, this fandom for me is weird in many ways. It’s made me write fluff and babyfic and pregnancy and sex in water (okay, that last one is not so weird for me) and a bunch of things that are normally not my thing. Usually, I am much more a canon fic type writer. In previous fandoms, I would sometimes write one-shots that were full-on AUs, but the most I would generally go with anything longer was canon divergence in some way. I wrote several fics in one fandom where I changed one crucial canon detail and then just let the story follow the shockwave of fall-out from that.

But this fandom? I’ve written 25 stories, and - thinks - a grand total of two of them are set strictly in canon. Everything else is AU, including a massive coffee shop AU series in (currently) 14 parts and a Regency AU. The way the show ended is what spurred me to start writing again, and the way the show ended also probably has a lot to do with why I’m suddenly an AU girl after all this time.

X. give a summary of your current project!

You meanie! Um... Well, there are three.

1. The one I’m working on right now is the Aussie coffee shop AU, though to be fair, it was only a proper coffee shop AU for about two seconds at the beginning. It started as a series of daily one word prompts for the month of August. I envisaged that it would be a set of loosely connected ficlets set in the same universe, with nothing longer than about 1000 words. Instead, it’s turned into an epic modern AU featuring Brienne the British tourist who is abandoned by her travelling companion Hyle at the side of the road on the east coast of Australia at the height of summer, and walks to the nearest little town, where she finds a coffee shop and in it a man named Jaime, who may or may not be a barista and also may or may not be some sort of Hemsworth. 

I’m currently working on the 14th story in the series, On the first day of Christmas (my true love gave to me) which is, not very surprisingly, set on Christmas Day. The series will be very close to the 80,000 word mark once I edit and post the chapter that I finished writing last night. The longest story in the series (so far) is 25,000 words and there are still another five or six prompts that I want to cover, so my original idea for the series has just been left by the wayside at this point. (And yes, I am aware of how long ago we ran out of days of August, but shhh.)

2. I’m also working on the sixth, but chronologically first, story of my fix-it series After Everything, in which Jaime didn’t go south to Cersei and instead stayed in the North with Brienne... after everything. The current story, Life’s Not a Song, is set during the events of season 8, after Jaime arrived at Winterfell, and is told from Sansa’s POV. It shows how Brienne and Jaime ended up together after everything - something that I had handwaved away and hadn’t intended to cover. 

3. I’m also working on a Regency AU, You I Know. I set this aside a few months ago to do the August prompts, and then that got out of control, but I have not at all abandoned You I Know. It is the novel length Regency that I’ve wanted to write for years, and it is my baby. It’s set in 1814, and starts at a house party at Riverrun, the seat of the Duke of the Riverlands, where the Honourable (how could I resist that?) Miss Brienne Tarth, daughter of Viscount Tarth, meets Major Ser Jaime Lannister, a cavalry officer with a past, and also the son of the Prime Minister, Lord Tywin Lannister.

This one is going to be looooong. The house party is really just Part I. As I said, I’ve wanted to write a story like this for YEARS, and I’m planning to include every Regency detail and trope that I possibly can.

i am fluent(ish) in a few languages other than english but they almost never come up in fic lol. but if i had to include a foreign language, i’d either write it from the pov of the character who doesn’t know the language (and gets it translated from a third party) or i’d have to consult someone who could help me out with the language

This is an outtake from Time is Still A-Flying. Originally, the Master was going to try to turn Rose against the Doctor while the bond was broken. It’s an interesting idea, but it never really panned out for me as a writer, and in the end, I really prefer the idea that he quickly got bored with her and just left her in solitary confinement.

This is a deleted scene from chapter three of Gold Can Stay. If you were on Tumblr at the time, you know this story gave me fits. Right from the start, it refused to do what I wanted it to do, and chapter three was no different. Originally, I wanted to include the Bad Wolf revelation in this story. It was part of the reason I made a point to mention that Rose could hear the TARDIS from inside the cabin.

Dreaming of True Love’s Kiss

Yet another piece for my ficaversary. This time, we have an alternate scene from Once Upon a Dream, which was written for @perfectlyrose‘s birthday two years ago.

I changed my mind eventually because the deeper I got into that story, the harder it was to transition to reality. But when I was digging through my deleted bits files, I found this scene. With a few hundred words tacked onto the end, I quite like it.
