The Polong [Malaysian mythology]

Malaysia has an exceedingly rich folklore filled with many weird and dangerous creatures. Among them is the Polong, a tiny being that resembles a human woman except in size. It is about as tall as the top joint of a human’s little finger. They can fly at will.

These creatures are malicious and dangerous, and enters the body of its victims. It is always accompanied by a supernatural cricket called a Pelesit, which serves as a pet or familiar. After the Polong has chosen a new human victim, it orders the Pelesit to enter the body, which it does tail-first. The Polong then follows.

A Polong can be captured by a human, and it will serve its master as a familiar of sorts. You can feed your Polong with your own blood, which you can extract by pricking your finger. The same goes for the Pelesit: it is sometimes captured by humans, and fed with blood taken from the ring finger. It can then be commanded to possess someone.

A person possessed by a Pelesit will become sick and rave on and on about cats. Medicine men can commune with the creature inside the victim, and force it to say the name of their owner. A Pelesit can be made manually, but this is a tricky task. First, you have to dig up the grave of a child who died less than 40 days ago. Both the child and its mother have to be the first born in their family. Then you have to dangle the corpse over an anthill, after which it comes to life and starts to cry. Cut off its tongue and bring it to a crossroad of three roads, and light a fire to heat a cocoa nut obtained from a solitary cocoa palm. The shell will start to leak oil, and you have to dip the tongue in the oil before burying it underneath the crossroad. After three nights, you can dig it up: the tongue has transformed into a Pelesit.

A claim that I’ve found numerous times on the internet, but haven’t been able to back up with a source, is that the Polong is created from the blood of a murderer, captured in a glass bottle. This is why images of these creatures usually portray them as a sentient red liquid.

does anyone know if i can like block sites from appearing in my google images searches??? i keep getting those awful ai generated things with a hand coming out of a man's neck and just straight up not what i was looking for, because this was in a search for "curly hair in medieval paintings". it happens every time i search for anything vaguely art-reference-like and it's so fucking annoying and it clutters my search results so much. i don't wanna add specific commands to the query every time too, what i need is like a browser extension or something
