Hello,

For those who don’t know me, my name is Alaa. I’m a husband and a father from Gaza, and I’m so grateful to be raising two beautiful children, Maram, our lovely 6-year-old daughter, and Ayman, our energetic 3-year-old boy. We are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of our third child, a baby girl, who is due in just a couple of months. My wife is seven months pregnant, and while we’re filled with excitement, we’re also feeling the weight of the challenges ahead.

One of the things we’ve been discussing is what to name our new daughter. We wanted something that feels similar to Maram, but we’re still undecided. There are so many lovely names that could be perfect for her, and we’d really appreciate any suggestions or advice.

That said, choosing a name is the least of our worries right now. The reality of preparing for our baby’s arrival in the middle of a war is overwhelming. We have no baby clothes, no mattress, and with the current war, basic necessities like diapers and baby formula have become unaffordable for us.

I’m thrilled and thankful that we’re expecting a new addition to our family, but as a father, the fear and worry about how we’ll care for her, along with our two other children, are constant. We are displaced from our home, I’ve lost my job, and our savings have run out. Every day, I wonder how I will protect and provide for my family in these impossible circumstances.

This is why I’m reaching out to you. We want to give our daughter the best start we can, but we can’t do it alone. Anyway I love being surrounded by Christian pro-lifers because when I got my baby's prenatal diagnosis they surrounded us with love and support — and contrary to the cultural narrative (but unsurprising to anyone who knows pro-lifers irl) they really stepped it up after she was born:

bringing so many meals

offering childcare for my toddlers

sending us baby supplies and gifts and diapers

frequently checking up if we needed anything at all

offering us a place to stay

a professional photographer gifting us a free session

etc etc etc

And all of this from people we barely knew, because we moved 400 miles to a different city when we received her diagnosis.

Pro-lifers showed up for me and my unplanned, medically-complex baby.

I want to take a moment to share a special experience my wife and I had today, all thanks to your incredible support over the past few months. We went shopping for our little one on the way, and our hearts are overflowing with joy and excitement! 😍

However, I must admit that this journey hasn’t been without its challenges. The prices for baby essentials can be quite overwhelming, and the few adorable outfits you see in the picture set us back over €150! We truly couldn’t have made this happen without your generous help.

As we prepare to welcome our baby into the world, there are still many essentials we need to purchase. Your continued support means the world to us.
