Fabula Ultima Builds: Babus Swain
Tumblr media
Babus Swain Lv. 5 Identity: Royal Mage of Ivalice Theme: Duty Origin: Ambervale Stats: DEX d6, INS d8, MIG d8, WLP d10 Derived Stats: HP 45, MP 70, IP 6 Init. -2, Def (DEX + 1), MDef (INS + 2) Classes & Skills: 🔥 Elementalist: Elemental Magic (Ignis) ☄️ Entropist: Entropic Magic (Omega, Stop) 🗨️ Orator: Condemn (2) Equipment: staff, sage robe Optional Rules: Quirk: Big Bro (Magic Lesson, Pep Talk, Planning) Zero Power: Explode - Sequence Trigger, Zero Scourge (Fire + Dazed/Shaken)
One of the few named nu mou in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Babus Swain aids Prince Mewt stop Marche from letting his friends leave Ivalice but eventually turns on him when he realizes the best thing for Mewt is to return home.
Babus Swain's starting build is fairly simple, a mage that emphasizes high damage with some debuffs via Condemn and Slow. His Zero Power*, Explode, replicates his signature move in FFTA where he deals enormous damage to everyone in an area. The quirk, Big Bro**, gives him access to camp activities whether or not you're using the optional rule which you can use to mine his advisor role to Prince Mewt, improving other's magic capabilities, encouraging them to do better, or planning for the next fight for perfect execution.
Beyond level 5, you can invest in Elementalist to acquire additional fire magic and the ever so handy Magical Artillery. From Entropist you can invest into a few more debuffs and buffs such as Anomaly, Dispel, and Mirror. Then Orator can get you the rest of your Condemn levels, then you could invest into Encourage and My Trust In You to emphasize the advisor role, Unexpected Ally could emphasize his connections as well. For heroics, Powerful Spell, Magic Guard*, and Wise Counsel** are all great choices while Symbolist* can be a good class to invest into afterwards to emphasize the idea of being a Runemaster.
*Found in High Fantasy Atlas
**Found in Playtest Materials

God damn it, it's so obvious in hindsight

Babus also has the same nose as Mewt's teddy bear, the only Nu Mou with a nose like that

This game was released like 17 years ago and I just now learned that this puppy dog mage in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance who is very close to Prince Mewt is literally named like, Mr. Sweetheart. Sir Loverboy. Lord Male Admirer. Incredible

Note
You said you play the FF tactics games, what are your favorite characters and your favorite set ups?
I haven't played the original Tactics game so I cant speak for that, only Advance and A2.
But over all I think my top favorite character is Montblanc. Which... isn't surprising really XD (or it shouldn't be). Other top favorites would be Witch of the Fens (which I still hate we get worthless Al-Cid over her), Marche, Babus Swain, Etzel Barbier, Cid (ffta2), and Oskar (a side character nu mou from ffta2)
As for class set ups, anything that could Dual Wield in Advance was a broken mess tbh, so most of my humans had that.
But over all my top favorite setups I had were as follows:
Paladin/Ranger (Dual Wield + Ultima ability from Ranger = Total Destruction)
Ranger/Blue Mage (especially in Advance)
Illusionist/Seer
Assassin/White Mage (I loved the duality, especially in Advance)
Red Mage/Summoner (Blood Price + Elemental absorption + Doublecast + Summoning = Nuking the map with splash Damage)
Gunner/Mog Knight
Sage/Alchemist (Alchemist is one of my top favorite classes in both games overall tbh)
Gladiator/Templar
Dragoon/Defender
I havent used Gria or Seeq much, and tbh they only have 4 classes each which makes them difficult to make unique sets for (and they gave Gria a magic based class on a race that is almost entirely physical combat based which always confused me).
If you are curious my overall favorite classes are these:
[Human]
Paladin
Hunter
Illusionist
[Nu Mou]
Alchemist
Arcanist
Beastmaster
Sage
[Moogle]
Chocobo knight
Gunner
Mog knight
Juggler
[Viera]
Red Mage
Assassin
[Bangaa]
Templar
Gladiator
