Prompt:
Red Son having his hair down in public:
Excuse me?
Red Son hears a small voice and sees a little girl looking up at him in wonder.
Are you Ariel?
“Excuse me?” Red Son heard a small voice and saw a little girl looking up at him in wonder. “Are you Ariel?”
He blinked. “Uh, what?”
“Are you Ariel?” she repeated, starting to bounce on her little feet. “You look just like her with your pretty red hair!”
Red raised his hand back and patted his loose curls. He had forgotten his hair tie before he had left the house, leaving his curls to bounce behind him. Nobody had commented on it until now, in this small noodle shop, with this cute little girl staring up at him from the next chair.
“Well, uh, I’m sorry to say this, but no,” Red bit back a whine at the sad little look on her face. “But,” He looked around. Still no sign of a parent. He knelt, hoping fate wouldn’t have a parent, irate with a stranger talking to their daughter, before beckoning her close. “I am in a club with her.”
The girl’s eyes went wide. “A club?”
“Mhm. A super special red hair club.”
Her eyes went wide and a wide smile immediately formed. “Really?!” She started to bounce. “Has she met Mulan?! My ayi is in a fencing club with her!” Red raised a brow. Huh, really?
“Excuse me?”
Red looked up and came to a pause. The man across the counter was cute, with gentle brown eyes and hair pushed back. Actually, he looked kinda like the little girl. Before he could say a word, the little girl squealed “Baba! He’s in a club with Ariel!”
Oh, this was her baba?
“Really?” The man cocked his head, seeming to study the man, before glancing at her. “How did you learn?”
“She thought I was Ariel,” Red explained, reaching up and toying with a red curl. His heart skipped a beat when he noticed the man’s eyes land on the curl. “It’s cute, but she’s much prettier than me.”
There was a slam against the counter. “No, she’s not!” Heads turned to the girl. She didn’t seem to notice or care, bouncing in her spot as she grinned for Red. “You’re prettier than her. Pretty enough for Baba!”
Uh…what?
“Huiying!” the man yelped. He reached over and gently pushed her back into her seat. “Inside voice, please! And remember what we talked about?!” He glanced at Red before leaning in. “You don’t know this man. I don’t know this man. Let’s see about getting to know him first before trying to marry me off, okay?” He tapped her on the nose before leaning back. “Yeye Tang just let me know he’s waiting outside for you.”
“Yay!” The girl scrambled down the chair and immediately ran out the door.
Now that they were alone, Red couldn’t help it. “I would love to get to know you.” The man paused and raised a brow. “I mean, I heard what you were saying to her and, uh-” This was awkward. This was in poor taste, the man was working. “I’m Red!” He held out his hand.
The man blinked before laughing. It was a sweet sound, warm and cheery and for some reason made Red think of sunshine. A callused hand clasped his. “I’m Qi Xiaotian,” the man said. “And sure. Let me check my schedule. Maybe we can go to Disney World and you can take a picture with Ariel.” He leaned in close. "Say it was a cool picture from your club."
Red chuckled, feeling heat soak through his body.
That would be fun.

Is miss Muffet going to appear? Where is she?
I thought she came with them in the Lands In Between
YES ZAC YES ZAC
His nat20s are INSANE.
Oh we went hard Christian indeed
Oh no Lou. You broke my heart. "why other could? Why consequences not only never seemed to apply to other kids but were the ultimate for me. Why did I have to suffer every step of the way. Why must I suffer all the time whatever i do."
"For a moment you are all marionettes together". Stop it. Stop. It's too strong to hard.
Oh no not the turquoise hair fairy
Oh what was this second map with the sea?? Ariel? And I think they were other border of countries
Oh no Gepetto wth. Poor Pinocchio
I SHOULD NEVER HAVE MADE YOU??? What the what the what. Whaaaaat?
I'm crying so hard. I know he doesn't believe it but I hate it. I hate it. I hate it so much
Or there she is
Brennan showing absolutely perfect the danger kids are in when the people in their life don't show them love and affection enough. They get easily manipulated and are ready to give everything to the first glimpse of affection. Real or not. I don't blame Pinocchio, I will never blame him. But I HATE what the Turquoise hair fairy and Gepetto did. Oh you regret what you said? Apologize. Apologize NOW. You can't afford your kid being so neglected and deprived of your affection that the will run first thing to anyone. That's how grooming happen.
Oh the way they all jumped to tell him his dad loved him but it doesn't excuse that what he did and say was wrong
"Even though the moral is wrong Pinocchio still has to escape the moral of his story" oh this episode is breaking me
Oh so the fairies are not a united bunch, interesting
Still absolutely don't trust her tho
Okay so basically the Bad Things are happening because it doesn't match what the Authors want? But if the Authors would. Well. Disappear. What would happen?
Oh we're finally getting some insight on the relationships between groups
I fucking love the big bad wolf. Well I love wolf. I'm just sad he doesn't have a pack, he must me lonely
OH YES RED STORY YES YES FINALLY
Dramatic backstory: starting
Emily: Cinnamon Toast Rolls and Lollypopcorn
Bye broth! A caterpillar chasing their friend the butterfly
"Your ears are honking big" picturing the Wolf listening to the caterpillar and butterfly story while waiting to eat her. Story he already know ofc
They are just loosing it at "Honkin" and honestly same
I love the wolf so hard he is a tragedy that's incredible "why? I am a wolf"
Oh she waited so long. So so long. No wonder she killed the Woodsman.
She was so hungry. I love her. I hate The Wolf. I love the Wolf. I wonder what happened to him to end up there.
YES RED YES. She met death and death convinced her to live!
Gerard's story is so funny, tragic and very reflective but so. Funny.
The absolute chaos if Gerard just. Dies.
"do you go where the dogs are or to your frog pound" "pretty loaded question"
It's adorable that Murph just stated that years after it's still only Fred 2 and 3. Not like. 364.
Oh no they are dead
Oh their meet cute is so adorable
The plot thickens as we met the Gander
OH CINDERELLA
Oh no it's the Stepmother story
Yes it is
That's so much wider she loved her daughters
BABA YAGA OH YES OH FHKGFXHJ
Yeah same Emily EXACTLY SAME
Oh i'm so happy. She's so strong and old
She's going to be a pain in the ass
"your daughters won't be injured if you eat them, and then you will be able to save them" i'm not sure but that's something she could say for sure
There goes the witch way
To be the vilain in every story. To be cursed with never having a story. I would be mad too
How cruel that in a way she has the same goal as Cinderella
She big mad
But when does she eat her daughters?
No no no not her present. You are level 4 guys
Oh that's where she eats her daughters
Rosamund is so smart
The brick little pig being called a boar and a Baron (love the alliteration btw)
I understand from Brennan that while they were running for their life the book of mother Goose downloaded a shit load of information
Have they slept since they arrive in this new life? I feel like they didn't which is HORRIFYING
Any situation: involve a living being
Pib: I kill them
I really would like to understand the nature of that damn book fr
That Gérard&Pib interaction was gold:
Pib: idk how we're going to know someone who knows...
Gerard (vigorously) : yeah we just need to break him out
Pib (confused) : wait... We... No no I think we..
Love them to bits
"so you guys go camping?" well yeah Brennan THEY HAVEN'T REST IT'S A LONG DAY FOR THEM
They are children. "Can we sleap on the roof please?"
LONG REST
The dice sometimes tel' the story of a Frog who got a level of exhaustion from being outside, wet and dirty. Basic living conditions for frogs. While the wooden boy who can rot easily is sooo fine.
Mother Goose bless 🙌🙌
That envoy is absolutely spectacular. A Princess (slept for 100y)with her envoy, basically and old man, a puppet, a cat, a manfrog and a cloak
Rosamund: I AM NOT going to propose myself to be married. No. Not interested and I don't think that's something you do
30sec later: I'm here to offer myself in marriage
Zac and Emily's reactions>>>
Can't believe the Baron isn't call Beter

Part 36
Aw, come on Ariel!! Not you too!!
Well, jokes on her! Rapunzel has definitive proof that cowplants want to be around her!!
They also really wanted to be around Karim... or rather, Karim's hankering for food wanted that cake.
....wow.
The benevolent god wasn't too worried, since this was Varian (the cowplant) first time eating a sim. And sure enough, out he popped!
You better have learned your lesson, young man!!
Unfortunately, he made his mistake just before having to leave for work. His poor students were going to have quite the smell to deal with.
The poor guy had to stink right up until he and his girlfriend returned from work.
People called Rapunzel many things (usually a shaved llama) but no one ever called her wasteful!
Et. tu, Cassandra???
At least her dead step-mom was... not mean. Just made the same joke 10 times. Probably not coping with her own death well.
Well, according to dead step-mom, Rapunzel was actually making friends!
Not that Rapunzel got to hang out with them much, between the steamy romance and parenting twins.
Parenting wasn't hard, just a little time consuming.
Mostly because Rapunzel and Karim couldn't keep their hands off each other.
Tiana, no!!! You're supposed to love food!!!
Rapunzel gave her a stern talking to. If she kept that up, one of those evil wizards that kept dueling mama would turn her into a toad!!
That got Tiana worried. She wouldn't have to be a toad, right? But Teo wasn't worried at all.
Mama and Baba would always be there to look out for them!!
Double play time was so cuuuuuute!!! And speaking of cute...
!!! Rapunzel was an aunt!! Of course she had to meet the baby!!
Cassie was a mom now! And uh... had one helluva cat of her own.
It would've been a happier occasion if they weren't still mourning Erika's loss. She should've gotten to meet her grandkid.
At least Rapunzel got to meet the kid! And they were going to grow up in Thyme's amazing mansion, with everything they could ever want.
....siiiiigh. Ok.
Blah blah, blast blast, Rapunzel lost.
She'd gotten a lot better at handling the defeats.
Who wouldn't chill out, with so much love at home!
Bonus
Despite Tiana being the only food-flinger, she never needed a bath! Teo on the other hand... well, that's where half the parenting time went. Maybe because he was 1/3 mermaid?
#why is everyone so mean to Rapunzel on Social Bunny???? I ended up deactivating it#sleepysims#sims 4#Rapunzel#disney princess legacy challenge#actually wait hold on the toddler genetics are so weird#their mama is half mermaid half alien#and All spellcaster#and Tiana is all spellcaster and ig a third mermaid and alien#and teo does have the weak bloodline so like... what even is he

I finally caught up with this! These episodes were weird, as I will say several times in the below writeup!
6 - This is a weird episode, essentially a halfway parody of the idol genre, starring Miiko (the idol from way back in episode 1), who we here learn is a 31-year-old divorcee with a daughter. We are initially led to assume the worst of her, but over the course of the episode, it becomes clear that despite her immaturity she does dearly love her daughter Ariel, but the episode's odd tone and the fact that it ends on what is essentially a joke makes the entire thing feel a little confusing, given the bullying angle just a bit prior in the episode.
Still, Miiko---rechristening herself Shizue Baba after the events here---is an interesting and likeable character, just one I wish we'd gotten a little more time with.
There are a number of interesting details here, though, like how Miiko's affected voice is significantly higher and more pinched than her normal speaking voice, and the episode leaves enough open questions that it doesn't feel wasted.
7 - Another weird episode, although one that makes more sense put together by the end.
Here, we divide our cast into two groups, those that have concrete plans for the future and those that do not. There are a lot of detours over the course of this episode, including a particularly odd one where Kiui gets involved with an older woman (who might be ex-yakuza and possibly also trans??? These things are not explored in detail and are left up to interpretation), and there's a whole thing with boob-touching?
But! The final scene, where Mahiru and Kano running together on the beach as they realize that if they don't have more set-in-stone plans for the future, they can continue doing what they do for each other, is really great.
This is probably, at this point, my opinion on Jellyfish in general. It could've probably used a tightening-up in the script editing stage, because some of these extraneous sidebars are distracting, but the highs are very high, and the show remains worth it for them alone….of course, on the other hand, it's not surprising that Jellyfish itself has no desire to conform to the expected, so maybe a "trimmed down" and thus less "weird" version of Jellyfish would feel less special. Perhaps I will have settled more firmly into one camp or the other by the time the show ends.

Got to watch RRR with @professorlehnsherr-almashy today! Even with constant lag, he was still able to enjoy it, which is all that matters.🥰
Key moments included:
Lots of scolding of Ram for beating the protesters up at the beginning by his Baba 🤣
Lachu has been adopted.😆
Leto also crushed on Jenny like I did and that made me ridiculously happy.😍
Several proud dad "My boys!" from Leto.😁

A brief review of all the holiday films that I watched for the first time this year
Morozko (1964)
Recommended by @natache
It starts very slow at first, but when it finds its rhythm the movie becomes a very charming experience. More than an adaptation of the Morozko/Father Frost tale, it feels like a celebration of Russian folklore, including bits about Baba Yaga, and a young man being turned into a bear, elements that weren't present in the original Russian tale.
I also loved how they brought an element of Sleeping Beauty/Snow White to the plot.
Three Wishes for Cinderella (1973/2021)
Recommended by @ariel-seagull-wings
I can see why this movie became a holiday icon in Eastern and Central Europe. I love how Cinderella in these movies is much more active and independent, without losing her kindness and softness. That's a good way to show "girl power" in these kinds of stories without having to belittle the original plot.
This may sound like blasphemy to some, but I think I enjoyed the Norwegian remake more. This doesn't mean I hated the original, but as someone that didn't grow up with the original and therefore doesn't have the same level of emotional attachment, the Norwegian remake is so beautiful that I want to enter and live on it 😂
Sidenote, the Norwegian remake has a gay couple that I honestly don't know where they came from. I'm not complaining, but these characters have the Disney stamp of Gay Representation 😂
Babes in Toyland (1934)
Recommend by @thealmightyemprex
The superior version.
Babes in Toyland just like the Disney version has wonderful sets and costumes and creates a wonderful world of fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters.
Unlike Disney, they don't waste this setup. In the Disney version, they started at the fairy tale/nursery rhyme town, but then by the end, they go to Toyland, which ironically is much less appealing. By the end, they have a freaking shrinking ray gun.
This one gives more emphasis on the storybook characters, with Toyland and the town of classic characters being fused into one place, and it feels like a fantasy all the way through, with no weird sci-fi popping up for no reason.
Scrooge (1951)
Recommend by @thealmightyemprex
I love that this version not only includes much of the Dickens novel, but it adds up to it, revealing much more of Scrooge's backstory.
This is the most complete A Christmas Carol adaptation
There's also a subtle social commentary, with Scrooge's behavior at some places being almost shown to be a natural result of the selfish society that he's living under.
Alastair Sim is a perfect Scrooge.

A Christmas Carol Holiday Season: "A Christmas Carol" (1982 animated film)
This hour-long Christmas Carol from the Australian animation studio Burbank Films is one that I almost overlooked. When I first found it on YouTube, I thought it was another upload of the 1969 version, because it boasts a similar animation style, with an especially similar character design for Scrooge, and even features Ron Haddrick reprising his 1969 role as Scrooge's voice actor. This is a different version, however, with slightly better character animation, though without the rich watercolor-like backgrounds of 1969, and with a script that's more strictly faithful to the book than the earlier one.
While the dialogue isn't always Dickens's own, this Carol is one of the more faithful versions in terms of plot, with many episodes that most other adaptations leave out. The early Christmas Eve scenes not only show Bob Cratchit sliding on the ice with the boys at Cornhill, but his game of blindman's buff with his own children at home, which Dickens mentions in passing. The sequence with the Ghost of Christmas Past (portrayed as a teenage boy in an ancient Greek-style tunic) include Scrooge's childhood vision of Ali Baba and the scene showing a middle-aged Belle with her husband and children. Christmas Present shows the poor taking their dinners to be cooked at the baker's shop, and the visit to a lighthouse (though not the miners' camp or the ship at sea), and makes the very rare choice in a children's cartoon adaptation to include Ignorance and Want. And Christmas Yet to Come includes the almost never adapted moment when Scrooge sees a different man working in his office before the Ghost leads him on to the graveyard.
Unfortunately, just because an adaptation is faithful doesn't mean it's particularly good. The animation is fine, but nothing special, and the voice acting ranges from decent (Ron Haddrick still voices Scrooge with the same sour flair as in 1969, even if he does make him a bit of a caricature) to very stilted. Australian accents are also more evident here than they were in the 1969 version. Still the character designs are vivid and colorful enough to appeal, especially to children, and the emotional beats of the story all come across.
In no way is this a definitive Christmas Carol. But it would make a solid introduction to the story for children, and as a version that adapts so many oft-forgotten moments, it's worth seeing.

2023 Wrap up and 2024 Goals
So I have been keeping track of what books I've read and what games I've played each year, for many years now. It's actually been really fun and interesting to look back and see what I ended up with, and it helps when I have to reference when I last looked at something :D So! I'm gonna put my Book/Games list year and combine it with any goals for 2024
Things I've read since Jan 2023
The Written by Ben Galley
Ariel by Steven R Boyette (read most)
STNG: Grounded by David Bischoff
Ascendant by Michael R Miller
STNG: A Call to Darkness by Michael Jan Friedman
STNG: Metamorphosis by Jean Lorrah
Denver Moon: The Minds of Mars by Warren Hammond and Joshua Viola
Masters of Doom by David Kushner
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
The Horse Whisperer by Nicholas Evans
The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler
The Tiger and the Wolf by Adrian Tchaikovsky
Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
This Gilded Abyss by Rebecca Thorne
Witch Hat Atelier 1-11 and Witch Hat Atelier Kitchen
All That Glitters by Loren K Jones
Comments: This is an example of like...I don't even remember reading some of these items. The STNG books (picked up from a library sale) were unexpectedly decent, I believe those were ones actually written by the show's screenwriters, so they read almost exactly like regular episodes. Also, I include manga (and some visual novels) on these lists because of the large quantities of reading ~ as such, WHA was probably my favorite read this year. The art is so gorgeous and the artistic struggles really resonates with me. My favorite non-manga waaas :Ta hmm, probably This Gilded Abyss, though I did not like the ending that much. Its fine if a book is going to be a series but I think that books should be able to be read as a one-off. I guess what I'm saying is make sure the ending is reasonably satisfying for THAT book, even if you want to set up for the next one. For example I'm well aware that ADSOM is a series however it's written with a satisfying ending that I can treat as Just One Book. Which I'm going to do. (Hopefully this all makes sense)
Currently Reading: Well my first book of the 2024 list is Heaven Official's Blessing 1, since its been on my shelf for a while ~ I'm already halfway through and just couldn't finish it before the new year. I see there's a ton in this series so IDK if I'll get through it all, but I do like it more (so far) over the other series by the same author
2024 Book Goals: I have a lot of unread ebooks so I'd like to start getting through those this year, as well as a couple paperback books on my shelf that have been there for years.
---
2023 Video Games:
Baba is You
Cats Organized Neatly
Resident Evil: Village
Ghost Song
Salamander County Public Television
Cassette Beasts
The Mortuary Assistant
Vampire Survivors
Cult of the Lamb
Milo and the Magpies
Pizza Tower
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (DNF)
Celeste (again)
Super Mario RPG remake
The Darkside Detective
The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark
Comments: Honorable mention is MyHouse.wad ~ I haven't played classic DOOM in so long and didn't want to learn how to mod it to play this, but I watched videos obsessively for several weeks when it came out. Its super cool. The Mortuary Assistant I found....strangely relaxing, I'm pretty sure this was not the common experience LOL. TGAAC made me kinda mad, I love AA but I COULD NOT with this one. I got 3 cases in, the pace was absolutely glacial and I did not like any of the side characters so I wasn't enjoying it. Oh well. My favorite game was probably either RE:V or collectively the two Darkside Detective games I just played.
Currently Playing: I just started Super Mario Wonder yesterday after getting it for Christmas. It's cute! I haven't played any mainline Mario games in like 10 years. Seriously the last ones were like Super Luigi Bros and Mario Maker 1 (and even then I think these are spinoffs 🤣)
2024 Game Goals: I have several games in my backlog that I would consider "Large RPGs", such as BG3, and I'd like to get through at least one of them. They're really daunting because of the time commitment required to finish. I'm currently working on some stupid grindy stuff in FFXIV so hopefully (lol) I will just take a break afterwards and can work on one of them.
---
Other 2024 Goals/Art Goals
Yeah I don't like to go too wild with goals anymore. 2023 was just a hot mess year in terms of my day job, for the entire year, and my brain got pretty scrambled. I couldn't think of any silly goal this year (I did "all Ghibli Movies" in a past year for example), so I'm gonna say:
Finish at least 1 sketchbook
Do/Post more finished pieces
Finish a piece of art I've had sitting on my desk since June 2022
I did a big consolidation of art supplies at the end of the year so hopefully I won't be so daunted by what to use in general. The ink challenge I did was very helpful getting a little bit of motivation back. I also have this piece of art that's been sitting unfinished on my desk for a year and a half and I really need to finish it, LOL. I think what happened is the lineart is pretty complicated - once I finished transferring it to a nice sheet of paper I got overwhelmed with the idea of 'ruining' it and put it aside. I really need to get it done though, however it turns out, and move on, as I think the lingering thought is blocking all other pieces.

Part 54
Rapunzel only had one shot at this; a single magical flower that would defy the laws of death. She hadn't used it for her mother or her beloved cat, but this... this was worth it.
THANK PLUMBOB!!! And of course he's being ridiculous about it.
And yet, and entire hour ticked by, with no sign of Karim... the benevolent god was getting anxious.
FINALLY!!!! Ahem, I mean, thank you, Grim.
Now to wait another half hour for Varian to finish gagging... I've never saved a sim from a cowplant before, idk how this goes.
There you go, kids! For your birthday present, baba is home safe and sound!
Karim, you had better be so, so grateful to your wife!
You are sooooo lucky smelliness is your only problem right now!
Rapunzel was so relieved her magic flower had saved her fiance's life, she didn't care how smelly he was.
Tiana, your mama just brought your baba back from the dead! This is not the time to care about how gross them kissing is!
I mean, it was pretty gross, but some things really don't matter when you've come so close to losing someone you care about. And when for the first time, you managed to save someone.
Though you'd think Karim would have something other than "I kissed my wife" on his mind, Given, y'know. He died.
Don't worry, Ariel! He didn't stay dead!
... I don't know what happened here. But congrats on whatever it was.
The twins ran up to their baba to double check that he was actually alive.
Lots of stinky hugging ensued. Though luckily for the kids, the rain seemed to have washed the worst of it away.
Yeah, Teo! This is great!
Uhhh, you too, Grim. Lots of fun, today.
For some reason, Tiana was so, so excited to meet Grim! It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get on Grim's good side, at any rate.
Hold on, are you serious?!?! Man, the sims is great sometimes!
And for some reason, the super-friendly Teo knew that this was the one sim he would never, ever want to befriend.
He literally just stood there booing them for the entire conversation.
And although Teo hated mischief, he autonomously made fun of Tiana! He was coping well.
