Dear Jo,
Happy New Year to you as well! It was lovely to see you again, even if it was only for a brief moment. Your whirlwind visits always have a way of brightening the day, though I do wish you'd stayed a little longer. :)
How have you been? I hope your studies are treating you kindly and that you've had a chance to catch your breath after the holiday rush.
Thank you so much for the lemon tarts - they were absolutely delicious! They didn't last long, I'm afraid. I also really appreciate the bag of food for BAAba. She's thoroughly enjoyed the treats, though I'm certain she enjoys causing trouble just as much.
That said, as much as I've appreciated BAAba's… spirited company, I've started to think the dorm rooms might not be the most suitable home for a goat. My dorm mates might also appreciate a safer environment for their legs - Alsius in particular has suffered, well, more than once...
I hope you understand. I was thinking that perhaps she could find a proper place in one of the free enclosures behind the Beasts classroom? It seems like a much better fit for her, and she'd still be close by for visits. Let me know what you think.
Take care, and please do keep in touch.
Vi hörs!
Felix
Dearest Felix,
Thank you for the New Year wishes. I appreciate the kind words. I am glad you enjoy my whirlwind visits however I must apologize for popping in unannounced and startling you. I do wish I could stay longer but I don’t believe my life will get any calmer anytime soon to allow such visits.
My studies are going well. I am getting close to finishing my time here at school and as you know the studies do tend to pile up especially since I have been taking more than usual. It is calmer right now but still very mentally exhausting for me. My holidays were lovely thank you and I did have a nice break while it lasted.
I am very glad you enjoyed the lemon tarts. I do wish I could have done more but I’m touched that they were so appreciated. Ahh BAAba is still causing trouble I see. She can get like that.
You are very right that dorm rooms are not the best place for a goat. In fact I was quite surprised that you kept her so long in your room rather than in a vivarium. I am sorry for Alsisus, I do hope that the bruising hasn’t been too bad. She does like head butting or using legs as scratching poles. Between her horns gets rather itchy.
Behind the beasts classrooms would be a great spot or I could send her off back to my muggle family. Unless you’ve gotten attached. You see she was just meant to be a messenger for your birthday. I hope to hear your reply soon.
I do hope in the future I will have more time to talk with you because I rather enjoy our meetings.
Take care as well!
- Johanna or Jo

"Freak Out" by Baaba Maal ft. The Very Best
DV:
One of the year's most dynamic songs, "Freak Out" is propulsive and driving, even as it drops into an extended bridge that becomes one of the song's most compelling parts. Credit where it's due to producer Johan Karlberg, who's become something of an expert at alchemizing acoustic and electronic sounds into something that sounds uniquely fresh and vital through his work with The Very Best and (more recently) Self Esteem. But "Freak Out" is one of the year's best because of how adeptly it transitions between Baaba Maal's keening vocal and Esau Mwamwaya's honeyed one and back again, distortion and beauty playing off each other and balanced adeptly, gloriously. This isn't the first collaboration between the two, but it's the best expression of the electricity in their combined approach to date - let's hope it won't be the last.
MG:
In its darkness and unrelenting drive, there is something almost Motorik about “Freak Out,” but where Krautrock felt like a geometric line, never beginning or ending just stretching endlessly straight, Baaba Maal and The Very Best are circular, more like sharks surrounding their prey than Volvo on the highway. All that churning, the sensation of swaying on top of the black waters which are about to consume you, is so compelling it verges on addictive. There are worse ways to die than lost in a perpetual groove, subsumed by pounding rhythms.

Acclaimed Senegalse singer/songwriter and guitarist Baaba Maal is a member of the semi-nomadic Fulani people. He first left his home in Podor, Senegal to perform music hundreds of miles away as a teenager — and he has been a wanderer ever since. “It’s part of my culture,” Maal says. “The songs travel from village to village, from country to country.
