"The Knife for Your Throat" (Magic Spell for B.I.'s Death) is an experimental, improvisational composition based on the sounds of the Tbilisi autumn-winter protests of 2024. On October 28, protests began across Georgia after the parliamentary elections, which exposed the dictatorial regime of the current authorities. A series of rallies that continue to this day have gathered several hundred thousand participants who joined in fierce resistance to local power structures. The global crisis of power, the legal system, and the abolition of the constitution have turned the streets of Georgia's largest cities (Batumi, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Tbilisi, Gori, Rustavi, etc.) into a battlefield where not only physical and ideological struggle takes place, but also performative and actionist acts that have turned Georgia into a polyamorphic arena of confrontation. The sound picture that opens up in this confrontation is particularly vivid and creative, where the national musical character is clearly audible, bringing traditional musical constructs into the urban environment, which are being processed in conditions of resistance into random musical-noise clusters. The sound of horns, whistles, rhythmic patterns beaten on metal shields, and rhythmic, repetitive exclamations take on the outlines of a ritual procession in this space, which we tried to capture and combine into a single hymn. I went back and checked, and Raine whistled softly over their tea before drinking it back in Follies, too. Which means... either it took a while to work properly, or they were putting on an act with Eda in the alley? To try not to hurt her by getting her involved again? You beautiful dingus she is already involved. Eda better pop them one when that comes out. (I meant smack them but she should also kiss them.) God, I’m so proud of them, though. They’re fighting, they’re fighting. It’s incredibly encouraging-- and it looks like Darius might be working with them as well, now? He seemed pretty on board with tormenting them back in Requiem, but maybe he’s come around since then?

...or maybe that’s why Raine was able to escape from the goo back then, though that leads to the question of why Darius acted as pissed off as he did when there was no audience... except Eberwolf? Would he have been putting on an act for Eber? Was he seriously just pissed off at his co-conspirator for soiling his cloak? No, that makes no sense, Raine was genuinely trying to kill him and Eberwolf. They weren’t working together then. But they are now?

All these coven heads are playing 4D chess and Eda needs to pop them all one.

Okay so most of this episode was just adorable as hell, Eda and Raine as kids immediately hitting it off, being each other’s anchors through a bullshit school activity, being both a little on the outside in different ways. Eda saying Lily was her only friend... oof ow fuck ow. And she’s already losing her to the EC, but she found Raine, so at least she’ll have them for... the last bit of her time in school.

I was trying to hash out a timeline for my fic, actually (which will now require some significant rewrites but I’m excited), and I think Eda’s in her sophomore year here-- well, third from last year, as it looks like Hexside isn’t really separated in an elementary/middle/high kind of way. Lilith is two years older and she’s still in school, but also we know that she was still at home for at least some time after her coven acceptance because she was there when Eda attacked her father. We also know that Hexside doesn’t seem to have a summer vacation-- or if it does, it’s at a different time of year, since Luz’s ‘new semester’ started up while she was already in the B.I. for camp. So maybe this is near the beginning of Eda’s sophomore/Lily’s senior year, Eda gets cursed at the coven tryouts in seven months, Lily is accepted into the coven like a college acceptance and has to finish out her senior year first so she has a couple more months? During that period, Eda’s attacks continue to get worse, she puts out Dell’s eye, and she runs away from home for good, ditching school. (Maybe there was a cushion between the attack and her running away if Dell was in the hospital for a while, but she says she hasn’t seen him since it happened.) Obviously she stayed in contact with Raine, since they were together as young adults, but that still means they had... maybe a year at school together. Ow.

Seeing young versions of adult characters is always fun-- it’s been pointed out to me that the Hexside oracle kid whose design I was admiring might well be Perry, Gus’s dad, and I can kinda see it, since oracle makes sense for television/news and entertainment. I have a lot of Thoughts about young Darius because of course I do (look... listen... muck monster good) and am absolutely wrapping several of them up into this fic I’m working on--

man. Lilith said she was going off to an EC study group. Study group. That’s the kind of place you make friends.

The only things that bugged me this episode were Raine’s head being too dang big at several points and Terra pulling the exact same “I’m impressed you disobeyed me” thing that Darius did two episodes ago. I want to believe that means something, like it’s a quality Belos looks for in his minions somehow (though it doesn’t seem his style) but there’s a part of me worried it’s just uncharacteristically non-fabulous writing. This show is so good, you guys, it’s wild something like that sticks out so much. 

I am 100% gonna watch this one again soon for all the delightful Eda and Raine cheese.

Philip glances above his menu to his date with a small, surprised smirk. Despite the restaurant's full seating, it's relatively quiet, and so he speaks at an easy volume, "You want to talk about carnivorous plants so soon?"

Luz—that was her name, Luz, quick on the tongue like a whistle—smiles at him slightly awkwardly. "Better to get it over with?" she laughs. "I haven't met any other humans who have been to the Boiling Isles. I guess I'm a little excited."

"I understand." And he does; learning that there have been humans other than his brother and himself shook him through like an earthquake, leaving him shocked and ecstatic.

That the other human was a handsome young girl who wanted to meet up with him for what was essentially a blind date… A warm blush tickles his cheekbones, which he hopes she doesn't notice. It's been a long time since anyone expressed interest in him and longer still since he felt the same way.

Caleb and Evelyn were married, what, 40 years ago? And he had left that little polycule as soon as their first child was born. Philip had no interest in child rearing at the time.

Ah, but Luz awaits an answer, and so he shakes the memories away.

"To answer your question," he finally continues, setting the menu down and resting his elbows on the table. "Yes. I had never in my life heard of plants with bones—up until they were trying to eat me."

Philip doesn't find the memory very funny, but he takes in Luz' laughter with a smile anyway. He's always liked good-humored people. Caleb always has a bright smile even in the darkest of times—sometimes because of that darkness. His big brother is a strange man.

"Gosh," Luz sighs. "Sometimes I almost miss it. Maybe not the being digested part," she assures him. "But the rest of it? The red foliage, the warm air at the seaside… The people."

Philip has never related less—but his favorite person in the world certainly would. As much as Philip prefers his trees green and his seaside air cool, Caleb had felt differently… "My brother still lives there," he admits. "With his wife and children." (And grandchildren. As if Philip's creaky bones didn't make him feel old enough.) "I could help you go back and forth between realms—"

"Yes!" Luz pops up in her seat, attracting all sorts of stares, before realizing with a small, "Oh!" and making herself small again. "Yes," she says again, quieter this time. "I just… I want to see my teacher. And my little brother, King. I miss them."

"I have felt much the same," he tells her. "When my brother went missing… I did everything I could to find him." He looks down and laughs. "People thought I was out of my head. Our foster parents especially believed my talk of witchcraft was...concerning. But I knew. I knew I was right."

"And you found him." She sounds shocked—or even touched, perhaps. A hand is placed over her heart, her blue-painted nails bright against her dark button-up. "Despite it all, you found him." Luz sighs dreamily, before poking at the table. "That's how I feel about King and Eda. I'd do anything to see them again."

At that, Philip smiles wickedly. "Anything?"

Thankfully, Luz takes his flirting for what it is. Her cheeks darken as she blushes. "We'll see," she teases. A small smile twists her full lips. "We haven't even ordered yet."

Philip hums. "Of course." Still, he stares at her again, this time with renewed attraction. Her round face and long limbs make for a very pretty sight, especially paired with such masculine dress. "Whatever makes you comfortable. And," he assures her. "Regardless of how tonight ends, I'll still put you in touch with my brother."

Luz' shoulders relax and she smiles. "Thank you, Philip."

The sounds of his name on her tongue might be enough to obsess him. Still, he replies gently, "You're quite welcome."

B.I:

You were all chilling together, watching a horror movie you’d suggested on Netflix.

Having watched the movie before your attention was on him.

Or where he had decided to place his hands, on your upper thigh rubbing small circles and patterns.

“Stop staring it’s creepy” he jokes, squeezing your thigh.

Your face heats up not realising he could feel your gaze on him.

“I wasn’t staring at you... I was staring at that painting” you try saving yourself from embarrassment.

To which he only chuckles quietly to himself, sure he mutters out.

You tried with all your might to pay attention to the movie but it wasn’t working, having enough you finally let your gaze settle on his plumped lips.

B.i turns around catching you off guard, but that doesn’t stop you from leaning in and kissing him.

It wasn’t anything heated like your usual kisses but it also wasn’t just a small peck.

One of the boys throw a pillow at you two whilst the others fake vomit which causes him to giggle with you.

Jay:

You wasn’t sure why Jay was so nervous to show you the new choreography, but to him your opinion mattered a lot.

He warms up with the rest of the boys whilst you sit in the front of the studio, drinking your smoothie.

“Anytime this year would be great” you mutter to yourself hoping they would hurry up and show you.

“Ahish why are you so impatient?” Bobby mumbles, starting the music.

It had started off well until Jay forgot a part of the routine, he tries looking to his side but realises he was the only one infront.

“Fuck why can’t I ever remember that part!” He shouts to himself having stopped the dance.

The members decide to leave you both alone, feeling the tension building up.

“Jay it’s fine you still have time to get it right” you try encouring him.

The boys watch from outside the studio, seeing how you calm him down.

He doesn’t say anything, arms moving to wrap around your waist he pulls you into a nice hug.

You softly peck his cheeks then his lips.

“Oooouu” the boys yell from outside, making Jay blush from the unwanted attention.

“Yeah yeah” he mutters, picking up a notebook with nothing in it, flicking through pages barely glancing at it.

You chuckle at his actions, putting your book down you ultimately think it’s best if you take a break.

Unfortunately his advancements to you holt when the boys come rushing in.

“For fucks sake” he whispers so only you could hear him.

All the boys greet you, practically surrounding you in a circle.

Song watches you interact with his friends, smiling to himself at how well you get along with all of them crackheads.

Feeling his eyes peering through you, you catch the loving smile he sends at you, throwing you a heart.

You giggle to yourself pretending to grasp it.

Waiting for another conversation to start up, you excuse yourself walking over to your boyfriend.

Song leans in first but you grab onto the back of his neck, keeping him in place when he tries pulling away, emitting a throaty laugh from him.

Some of the boys send whistles to you both, while Song waves them off.

Bobby:

For some unknown reason bobby thought it would be a good idea to take a raod trip with you and the boys.

Split in two cars, you all figure it’s a perfect time to stop at a shop to get some extra snacks.

“What do you want?” He asks you picking up some of your favourite snacks.

“Why do you ask when you already know” you chuckle at his antics grabbing a few drinks.

After paying, you wait to see who’ll be driving whilst chatting to bobby.

“Why do you never kiss me infront of the boys?” He questions you.

“Huh....I’ve never really thought about it” you mutter mostly to yourself.

“It’s not like I don’t think about but I just thought you might find it awkward or something” you say staring at him.

He nods his head, stealing one of the drinks then heads into the car.

It was silent between you both for a long time, it almost felt like there was a certain tension between you both.

Bobby didn’t have to say much for you to realise why he was upset, instead of talking you go in for a heated kiss.

“Y/N!” Bobby smiles and pulls you inside. “What are you doing here?”

“Hanbin called and he said he wanted to take me somewhere.” You answer him and pout when he rolls his eyes. “Do you want to go too?”

“Nah, I’ll spend some alone time with you later.” Bobby smiles at you and sits down on the couch, glaring at the TV. “Unless you want to replace Hanbin with me.”

You sigh. “Jiwon…”

Bobby winks at you. “Tomorrow.”

You bite your lip and walk to Hanbin’s room. Hanbin notices the frown on your face and stands.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t like that you and Bobby are fighting.”

Hanbin sighs and closes his eyes for a second. “I know, but it’s kind of inevitable.”

“But why? We never argue.”

Hanbin raises an eyebrow.

“We never go to bed angry, Hanbin, this has been going on between you two for a while.”  You grab his hands and look him in the eyes, trying to put your most sympathetic expression on. “Talk to him, please, Hanbin. I hate this.”

He kisses your forehead softly. “Let’s go, okay? I’ll try to talk to him after we get back.”

You nod slowly. “Fine, I guess.”

“Let’s go.” Hanbin smiles. “You’re a snack, but I’m starving.”

“1. That’s lame. 2. I’m a full meal.” You push his shoulder and he drags you outside.

Bobby and Hanbin ignore each other as you leave. You let go of Hanbin’s hand and kiss the top of Bobby’s hand.

“Love you.” You mumble and jog outside, closing the door behind you.

“Oh yeah, I invited Y/N.” Donghyuk smiles and sits on the couch, holding a bowl of popcorn. “He told me a few weeks ago that he’s never seen it, so I invited him.”

Bobby and Hanbin snap their heads up at Donghyuk from opposite ends of the couch. Donghyuk glances between the two and turns sheepish, studying each kernel of popcorn in the bowl.

“I’ll go grab an extra blanket then.” Jinhwan stands.

“He can share with me.” Bobby and Hanbin glare at each other as the sentence leaves their mouths at the same time.

Yunhyeong nudges Jinhwan as he passes. “Grab another one.”

“Maybe I shouldn’t have invited him.” Donghyuk mumbles.

“Knock knock.” You hum and open the door. “You’re lucky I’m not a robber, the door was unlocked.”

They all smile at you, save Donghyuk who’s still examining his bowl, as you walk in, dropping your bag and shoes at the door. You stop again when you notice Bobby and Hanbin sitting as far away from each other as possible while still being in the same room. The tension between the three of you gets harder to bare and you breathe deeply through your nose, walking in between both of them to squeeze yourself in between Donghyuk and Junhoe.

Donghyuk mumbles an apology under his breath, to which you nudge him and smile, snatching a handful of popcorn. Junhoe pats your knee and leans closer to you, asking if you want to talk. He can be kind of sweet and protective when he wants to be, but you shake your head anyway.

Jinhwan comes back and throws one of your favorite blankets over your lap, not even questioning why you aren’t sitting on one of your boyfriend’s laps like you usually are.

The movie starts to play, but you find it hard to pay attention to, given the fact that you can physically feel the eyes of your boyfriends looking at you, then at each other, back at you, to then glare in each other’s directions. After a while you give up trying to follow the story arc and decide to just ask Jinhwan for it when you leave later tonight, deciding to also strike an X through the thought of staying any longer in this room.

As the night goes on you find your thoughts slowly leave and your eyes fall closed. You don’t fight the feeling of exhaustion and lay your head on Junhoe’s shoulder, looping your arms with his. He throws his blanket over your legs, yours having fallen off a long time ago, and moves his hand to rest on your leg. Bobby is the first to notice, dragging his eyes up and down your two frames, taking in how close and comfortable you both looked. Hanbin notices a short time later when he hears your name in Jinhwan and Yunhyeong’s hushed conversation. Bobby glances over at him and finds the perfect moment to be just a bit petty.

Bobby stands after a few seconds of contemplating and strides over to you. He loops one of his arms under your legs and mumbles for you to wrap your arms around his neck. You slowly follow his directions and snuggle into him, unaware of the glares Hanbin’s sending to your other partner.

Bobby slowly rests you on your section of his bed and joins you a minute later, covering you both with the blanket. He smiles and runs his fingers through your hair as you naturally cuddle into his chest.

“Did-” You yawn and shake your head. “Did Hanbin talk to you yesterday?”

“I think we said a few words yesterday.” Bobby all but hisses, trying to keep his voice quiet.

You whine and rub at your eyes. “Bobby…”

“Shh, go to sleep and we can talk about it in the morning when you wake up.”

“No, we won’t.” You mumble. “Because you’re both stubborn and refuse to talk it out. I’m younger than both of you, but I’m the one acting sensibly.”

“Y/N, go back to sleep.”

You shake your head and move off the bed. “I’m not tired anymore.”

“Y/N-”

“I think I’m just going to go home.” You move towards the door, turning around right before you close it back. “Love you, see you tomorrow.”

You jog downstairs and peck the top of Hanbin’s head as you pass. “I’m going home, love you.”

“Wait-”

You move over to Jinhwan and Junhoe, kissing both of them on their cheeks. “Text me later, alright? And give me the movie tomorrow when I see you.”

“It’s late, do you want me to walk you?” Junhoe asks. “We can talk as we do.”

“I’ll just call a cab or something. I’ll be fine.”

“Text me when you get home.” Junhoe smiles and waves.

“We need to talk.” Hanbin closes the door of Bobby’s room, at 8am the next morning. “We need to talk about Y/N.”

Bobby pulls a pair of shoes on. “I need to go to work.”

“You need to talk to me about our boyfriend.” Hanbin crosses his arms and stands in front of the door, rooting himself there. “I’ve never in the years that we’ve been dating seen him not sit near me when he’s here, and never even before we were dating seen him walk out of the house that late at night. We can have our arguments, fine, we’re with each other 90% of the day, but I’m done with seeing him frown because of it.”

“So, this is just my fault?”

“Listen to yourself, Bobby! Do you even remember what we were arguing about in the first place? Y/N and I never went to sleep angry, and it’s been two weeks of us ignoring each other.”

Bobby scoffs. “Well then go back to it just being you two.”

Hanbin falters and shakes his head. “I can’t believe you.”

Hanbin slings the door open and walks out, starting to shake from anger and exasperation. He finds himself at your door before he fully realizes he’s even left their dorms. He lets himself in and closes it softly behind him, making his way to your room as gently and quietly as possible.

“I was just about to text you.” You mumble, still feeling the grogginess from just waking up.

You look up at him fully and rub your eyes, holding your hands out.

“You’re tense. What’s wrong?”

Hanbin kisses you a few times, trying to stunt his anger. He reveals everything to you, feeling exceptionally calmer than he should be, but still knows that as soon as you let go of his hands there’s a possibility of him exploding.

“He didn’t mean it.” You kiss his knuckles gently and shake your head.

“I know, but-” Hanbin’s anger stars to flare up again and he grits his teeth. “That’s his reaction? Assuming that I’m blaming him? Telling me that we should just go back to the two of us?”

You say his name gently, snapping him out of his own head. “Thank you for trying to talk to him.”

He sighs and sits next to you, still holding his hands in front of you. “I should’ve talked to him when we started arguing. I don’t even remember what started it.”

“I wouldn’t remind you even if I knew.”

“You don’t know?”

“Neither of you told me.”

Hanbin groans and starts to hit his head on your shoulder. “Why? Why? Why?”

You start to laugh and cup his cheek, ignoring his whine caused by you letting go of his hand. “Do you want to go try and talk to him again? I can go with you. You both have a tendency of thinking your words through better when I’m there.”

Hanbin breathes deeply and nods, hitting his head on your shoulder once more.

“Stop! You’re going to hurt yourself!” You brush your hand over his forehead gently, kissing the spot once. “Knock it off, weirdo.”

“One more kiss?”

“You’ll get more kisses when we’re outside your dorm room.”

Hanbin groans and lays down on your bed. “Can you at least wear something cute, so I can focus on that instead?”

“I could wear a trash bag and I would still look better than all of you!” You call from your closet.

“You know what I mean~”

“Gross~”

Hanbin smirks and sits up. “Maybe Bobby will like it too. He can just stare at your legs the entire time you’re trying to get him to apologize.”

“That’s not the goal.”

“From where I’m sitting, it definitely is.”

“Stop trying to distract me.”

“Are you going to wear shorts?”

“Shut up.”

Hanbin starts to laugh and shakes his head. “I’ll be in the living room.”

You walk out after a few minutes, ignoring Hanbin’s wolf whistle. His hand finds its way to the back pocket of your shorts as you walk, looking smugger than before. You make it to the front door of their dorm and Hanbin pulls you closer, asking for the kisses promised earlier.

You roll your eyes and peck his lips a few times, opening up the front door.

“You guys seriously need to learn how to lock this.”

The tension and stiffness in Hanbin’s body returns the closer you get to Bobby’s room. He slowly removes his hand from your pocket, lingering slightly but he won’t admit that and opens the door. Bobby’s sitting on the bed still, shoes still on and showing that he only moved positions but never quite made it out of the room.

He jumps up when he sees you, starting to gush apologies.

“I don’t need an apology, Bobby.” You smile softly and sit down at his desk, gesturing between your two hard-headed boyfriends. “Talk it out.”

“Do you honestly remember how this started, Bobby?” Hanbin starts out, glancing at you every few seconds for support. “Honestly? I was trying to talk to you earlier and all you did was-”

Bobby cuts him off. “I’m sorry. I immediately regretted what I said as soon as you walked out. I don’t know why we’re fighting either and I don’t want to lose either of you. This should’ve had ended as soon as it began, it really shouldn’t have even happened. I didn’t want to hurt either of you, I promise.”

“We know. I know. I accept your apology and I’m sorry as well, for… pretty much the same things as you.” Hanbin smiles and holds his hand out for Bobby’s. “I still love you. I never stopped. We can argue a million times and I will never want to break up with you, neither does Y/N.”

“I don’t.” You agree. “I love Hanbin, but I love you too, I don’t want to go back to just two of us. I like the three of us.”

“Very poetic.” Bobby declares. “‘I like the three of us.’”
