Azula: Aang annoyed me today, so I told him that I can’t wait to see what he has planned for our special day tomorrow.
Azula: There’s nothing special about tomorrow though.
Azula: But there IS something special about watching the color leave his face as panic takes over.

Azulaang - alternate opening
Azulaang Week Day 4. Here’s my take on Tenzin’s intro narration in legends of Korra set in the Zutara timeline. Totally SFW.
@azulaang-week-2021
Tenzin:
“Earth. Fire. Air. Water.
When I was a boy, my father, Avatar Aang, and my mother, Ronin Azula, told me and my siblings, Ursa, Zuki and Kuzon, the story of how they and their friends heroically saved the world from Ten Thousand years of eternal darkness and chaos during harmonic convergence by Fall’s end right after the end the Hundred Year War by summer’s end.
My parents, my aunt Katara and my uncle Zuko transformed all nation colonies into the United Republic of Nations, a society where benders, nonbenders, humans and spirits could live and thrive together in peace, harmony and true balance. They named the capital of this great land, Republic City with Aunt Katara as it’s first president.
Avatar Aang accomplished many remarkable things in his life. But sadly, his time in this world came to an end. And like the cycle of the seasons, the cycle of the Avatar began anew.”

Azulaang Week - Half-Remembered Dreams
In honour of Azulaang Week 2021, I wrote a thing! A first chapter in what will likely be a long series of adventures in this AU.
Summary:
It is Azula’s tenth birthday, and she wakes up not in her quarters at the Palace, but in an unfamiliar forest in the Spirit World. Her mind is troubled, weighed down by the death of her cousin Lu Ten, and the disappearance of her mother Ursa. As she tries to make her way out and find a way home, she encounters a strange boy in robes of yellow and orange. Where could this path lead her?
A canon divergent AU where Azula disappears into the Spirit World every year on her birthday, and runs into Aang each time. Their adventures would change her fate, and that of everyone around her.
Hope you enjoy it, and have a marvellous day! @azulaang-week-2021

Gifted-child-who-views-herself-as-an-unlovable-monster-and-has-a-breakdown-while-trying-to-meet-high-expectation Azula would 110% be for secret dating.
I'm not sure if Aang would or rather while he would agree to a secret date I'm not sure how dating etiquette would change after a century and if Aang would even know them. He's like a cryptid but also a child who is unaware of the strangeness of himself.
These two on a date would be Clueless and Clueless #2 except they're both used to being right (Aang passively, Azula aggressively) so neither would realize it.
Their secret date would be the most bizarre combination of shenanigans that could loosely qualify as a date.

Pet shop Azulaang
Okay anon that's still totally, definitely, 100% not @writebecauseyoucannotbreathe, prompt #2 coming at you. I have literally no idea what happened here. Like, I couldn't start it, then I just said fuck it earlier this morning, blinked, and there was a fic. I don't think I really thought about any of this. But. Here. It's a fic.
Oh, and Writ - happy slightly early birthday, my friend.
Going to take the opportunity, since I didn't have time to write anything else, to say that this is also my contribution to @azulaang-week-2021. So I did something, see?
@atla-multishipping-bingo
Modern AU Bingo I5 - Pet Shop
When she’d finally relented on going to a pet shop, this was not what he’d wanted to happen.
Aang had tried for weeks to get her to go - he believed wholeheartedly in the idea that animals could really, truly help people, and he thought a pet might be good for her. Besides, animals were cute! And hilarious! And spontaneous!
All things Azula needed more in her life, at least in his humble opinion. But his girlfriend had put her foot down: she was not getting a pet. Sure, they had Appa, but one of her own? No. She didn’t need one, didn’t want one, and they didn’t need another animal running around the house. And that had been the end of that.
Or so she thought.
He’d been persistent, sliding it into conversations while having dinner, showing her pictures of cute animals, talking more about volunteering at the shelter, everything he could think of to put the idea in her head. And, finally, his persistence had paid off.
“We can go,” she’d said,” but do not plan on getting me anything.”
That was good enough for him - he could worry about the rest while they were there. Besides, she’d done this more than once: begrudgingly go somewhere, not intending to get anything, and walk out with something.
(It’s how she’d started dating him, after all.)
But so far, the plan is not working. Not at all.
He sighs, leaning on the counter, watching Azula stride through the rows of enclosures, glaring down at various animals with a slight disinterest. Every single one has seemed to cower just a little under her gaze, even the fish. He hadn’t even thought that a fish could cower, and yet it happened, right in front of him.
The slight click of her heels echoes in the empty store, and it just seems to accentuate what she’d been saying: she wasn’t going to find anything. Maybe this time...he really had been wrong.
“Rough day?” Smellerbee rasps as she comes up next to him. (How did he keep forgetting she was here? She opened the sanctuary today.)
“You could say that,” Aang whispers.” She’s been here for twenty minutes and has done nothing but glare at the animals.”
Bee just shrugs.” She’s never liked animals, you know that. I mean, she always says she can barely tolerate Appa.”
“She’s lying. Azula loves him!” Aang knows it's true, but he’s wondering, now, if maybe there was a little truth to her words.
“Hey, it’s alright, Aang. If she doesn’t like animals, she doesn’t like animals - it’s not a big deal.”
“Yeah, I know, I just - hey, wait, where’d she go?”
The click of her heels was gone, and Azula was nowhere to be seen. She’d vanished, like a ghost. He pushes off the counter and glances around.
“Azula?” he asks loudly. Where did she even go?
“Over here,” she calls from the back of the building - he had no idea how she’d gotten back there so quickly, but he hurries towards her, anyways. If she’d stopped walking, she must have found something that intrigued her. When he finds her, she’s staring down at one of the kennels, and she wordlessly points at the animal that had piqued her interest.
It’s a fox.
A...fox.
He really hadn’t expected that one, but it’s easy to see why the animal had piqued her interest: it’s small, maybe fifteen pounds at most, yet it stares up at Azula like it could take her in a fight. And it's gorgeous - deep red with a black tail, face, and chest like it had just rolled around in charcoal. It yawns as he watches, almost as disinterested as Azula is pretending to be. (Actually, that...matches her fairly well.)
“Is this one available?” Azula asks quietly after another moment.
“I thought you didn’t want an animal?” he teases, slinging an arm around her shoulders.
She huffs, but leans into his side, reaching up to gently hold his hand.” Hush, you, and answer my question.”
He chuckles, gives her a light squeeze, and nods at Smellerbee.
“Uh…” she starts.” Yeah, technically - but are yah sure?”
Azula nods.” I am.”
Bee shakes her head as she walks back to pull the fox out.” Suit yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, though.”
It only takes a moment to understand the warning - when Bee reemerges from the kennel area, the fox is biting, snapping, and growling at everything in sight, only stopping when Bee puts it down on the floor. He half expects the fox to dart away as Azula crouches down, and sure enough, it raises up on its haunches, snarls a little - although it’s more cute than intimidating - but it stops, sniffs Azula’s hand.
She keeps her hand right where it is, just lets the animal keep sniffing her hand. Azula doesn’t move, and for a moment Aang thinks she’s not breathing, either. (He wonders, for a second, if this is what Azula had seen in her - the same unbreaking stare, the same wary exterior, but thinking, hoping that maybe there was a soft heart under it all.
Sounds a lot like someone he knew.)
He can see Bee’s eyebrows raise as the fox slowly, moment by moment, drops her guard.
“I’ll be damned,” he hears Bee murmur as the fox sidles a little closer. Azula gingerly reaches forward, pats its head gently, then scratches it experimentally on the forehead.
The fox practically melts, and that’s all it takes.
“Satomi,” Azula whispers after a silent moment of scratching the fox’s forehead.” I think it suits her.”
When she glances over her shoulder at him, there’s a soft light in her eyes, a light he rarely ever saw.” Don’t you?”
“Yeah,” he says, crouching down next to her. He doesn’t, really, but if it makes Azula happy, well - he can’t complain.
(Later, when he sees her curled up on the couch, half-asleep with Satomi tucked under her arm, he can’t help but smile.
“I was totally right,” he boasts quietly as he tugs a blanket over her.
”Don’t let it go to your head.” Azula, he knows, is trying to sound threatening, but it doesn’t work. He chuckles to himself, kisses her forehead - when she’s half-asleep and struggling to stay awake like this, she’s more adorable than intimidating.
“I’m not hearing a no,” he whispers, kissing her on the cheek again. She swats at him, but he can see the grin on her face.
She’s happy. Totally, blissfully happy. Good, he thinks. That’s all I wanted.
“...fine. You were right,” she finally mutters. Her smile as she scratches at Satomi’s head, he thinks, is like the sun itself.)

Azulaang Week First Child/Parenting Sneak peek.
@writebecauseyoucannotbreathe @authorjoydragon @thesavagedaughter0627
“Uncle Aang?”
“Aah!” Aang was busy doing chores and making preparations for his and Azula’s future child, and he was so inmersed in his duty that he was startled to hear one of the kids in his child’s future room. Aang was even more startled to realise that there was not only one of the kids in this room but that all of their children were in the room.
“Children! Hi, aaah… What can I help you with?”
“Why have you playing less with us?”
“Why has Aunt Azula stopped helping us train?”
“Why have you all been so tired lately?”
“Why is Aunt Azula so sick?”
A cacophony of small child voices spread trough the small room that he was previously working in.
“Children! Please! Quiet!”
The cacophony ended.
Silence. Good.
“The reason why we have not have enough time to hang out with you guys is, why Azula has stopped trainig you, why we have been so tired as of late is… is becuase- is becuase Azula and I are having a baby. Azula is pregnant.”
All of the children just stood there staring at him.
Silence? Not good

Here is my Azulaang Day Two: Parenthood prompt submission. Yesterday’s was fluffy so today I give you angst. @azulaang-week-2021
My collection is here if you’d rather read on ao3! Leave me a lovely comment pls 💛
For @writebecauseyoucannotbreathe and @jp681099 This is the prompt that has been sitting in my drafts for… an undisclosed amount of time.
It’s sad. My b.
82- "You look just like your mom/dad." Azulaang
Aang watched as his daughter went through her fire bending forms with ease. She took to fire like a fish to water.
Her movements were graceful and elegant, and her golden eyes seemed to flash with glee the whole time.
It reminded him of someone…
“You look just like your mother.” He spoke softly, almost as if only speaking to himself.
But Oraya heard.
She turned in her tracks, forgetting the bending routine altogether. Baba didn’t speak about her mother very often.
“I do?”
He smiled sadly at her and nodded.
The eleven-year-old girl shuffled closer to her father. “Will you… tell me about her?”
She had gone through logs and scrolls about her mother’s accomplishments in life— but she still just seemed like a stranger on a page.
Aang sighed and beckoned her closer. Oraya sat next to him, tilting her head into his shoulder.
“Your mother… was amazing. She had a horrible sense of humor, and she was probably the most awkward person I’ve ever met.” Aang snorted, memories fumbling through his mind that Oraya wished she could see.
He teased, “She was an extremely picky eater, too. That’s where you get it from.” Oraya giggled as he lightly tickled her side.
“She… was loyal. To a fault.” Aang’s eyes seemed to glaze over. She knew he was thinking of how her mother died.
It was no secret. ‘Tragedy befalls the Avatar’s family’ was the top headline for a while. Oraya had read the old papers. She knew that her mother had died protecting them. She defeated the Red Lotus terrorist group single-handedly, but at the cost of her and her unborn child’s lives.
The Avatar had woken up from his unconsciousness with no wife or incoming son. Just little Oraya, only two at the time.
Oraya knew her life would be so different now, if only a slight change in circumstances had happened that fateful day. Then…she would know her mother. She would have a little brother— maybe even more siblings.
Aang sighed again, drawing Oraya from her longing thoughts. “Your mother was clever, and beautiful, and strong. You are very much like her, Oraya.”
She smiled despite the heavy sadness in her chest. “Thank you, Baba.”
Oraya hoped that she could live up to her mother’s memory.

Azulaang - Better
Azulaang week day 5. SFW Dialogue.
@azulaang-week-2021
Ursa 2: “Daddy?”
Aang: “Yes little lemur?”
Ursa 2: “Mommy seems sad.”
Aang: “Why’s that?”
Ursa 2: “I told mom I love her, she said she needed to go to her room. I heard her crying.”
Aang: “Oh.”
Ursa 2: “Did I do something wrong?”
Aang: “No, you didn’t do anything. It’s just...your mother...didn’t really have a happy childhood, has made some mistakes and was ignorant. But your uncle Zuko kept showing her love, compassion and truths, he’s who inspired her to be better, like his uncle was for him. Sometimes she cries with joy too. She goes to her room because she’s still a little shy about showing her feelings. She’ll be ok.”

Ryuu
@azulaang-week-2021 Day 2: First Child
Azula is worried that her son doesn't love her. She doesn't want their relationship to be like the one that she has with her own mother.
Sometimes when he calls her mother she finds it unfathomable. She never found herself motherly. Even when she had looked in the mirror and saw pregnancy very plainly. Even when Aang held his hand against the bump. Even then it still didn’t quite connect. It, in fact, had been a turbulent time. For the better part of nine months she was absent, inhibiting her body but vacant all the same. She isn’t sure how Aang could be so patient with her.
Even when the baby was born she couldn’t seem to fathom that it was her own. That it is her own. Holding it in her arms didn’t feel real. It didn’t feel as though those were her arms. Or maybe it had felt like she was holding someone else’s baby. But he had her eyes.
He has her mannerisms too. Her stubbornness, her fierceness, her cunning, and her coldness. When the boy is angry he is a force. When he is angry he hates her with all of his soul. He is too much like her.
Too much for her comfort.
It is no wonder he talks mostly to his father. She bites the inside of her lip. She is once again watching from afar as Aang teaches him to airbend. Though he has that spark in his eyes, there is no fire in his belly. And so she can’t find means of bonding with him there either.
She supposes she had anticipated this from the moment her belly had begun to swell--that her baby would resent her just as she had resented her own mother. Ryuu leaps into the air with the largest grin on his face and a loud giggle. Aang claps at how fast the boy learns new katas.
Azula takes a deep breath and hastily retreats back into the palace.
She doesn’t understand. She has been preparing herself for this from the very start of her pregnancy. It shouldn’t hurt so much. She hadn’t particularly wanted a kid anyhow.
.oOo.
“Why don’t you go play with mother?” is always met with a fuss or tears or both. He hates her through and through and she is certain that he has only become more hateful since she started putting effort in.
“What did I do wrong, Avatar?” She mumbles. “I’m not like my father, am I?”
Aang shakes his head. “You’re nothing like him, Azula.”
“That’s just a lie.” She replies flatly.
Aang takes her into his arms. “You haven’t hurt Ryuu like your dad hurt you.”
“Then why does he hate me?”
“He doesn’t hate you, Azula. He just doesn’t know how to talk to you.” Aang rubs her back. “You want to teach him bending and history lessons. He just wants to play and talk about this bug that he ate.”
Azula crinkles her nose. “I can’t relate, I have never consumed insects for fun.”
Aang laughs. “Neither have I! You don’t have to eat bugs with him, you just have to let him think that you think eating bugs is the most fascinating thing in the world. Or just listen to him talk about saber tooth moose-lions, he loves those. He can tell you all about them.”
Azula furrows her brows. “But I already know all about them?”
“Pretend like you don’t.” He gives her a little nudge, “he’s playing with his stuffed moose-lion right now, ask him about it.”
At her hesitation he gives her another nudge. She stands up and makes her way towards Ryuu, stopping momentarily to give Aang an uncertain glance. “Just don’t talk about politics.” Aang advises.
Azula takes a deep breath, perhaps she should just let her son do all of the talking in that case. She finds herself standing before him. In her shadow he brings his play to an abrupt halt. Azula clears her throat. “What do you have there?”
“It’s a saber tooth moose-lion.” He doesn’t look up from the toy.
She kneels down. “Did Aang get that for you?”
“Dad buys all of my toys.”
Azula flinches, “I’m not sure what to get you.” She grits her teeth, she is supposed to be talking about moose-lions. Ryuu shrugs, he lifts the stuffed toy up and frowns at it as though her taking interest in it has poisoned its value. “Why do you like moose-lions?”
“Why don’t you like them?” Ryuu asks.
Azula shrugs. “I don’t not like them. I suppose I just don’t think much about moose-lions…” she trails off. “So you’ll just have to tell me about them.”
Aang gives her a thumbs up and Ryuu cautiously turns towards her. “Well there’s a lot to know about moose-lions! First of all, they eat meat and they hunt in the day time and mama moose-lions are really big, do you know how big they can get?”
“How big?”
He holds his arms out as wide as he can, “they can get as big as an army tank.” He pauses. “Sometimes they eat fish.”
.oOo.
Aang breathes a sigh of relief. It has been well over an hour since the discussion started and they are still talking, although he isn’t sure if Ryuu is still talking about moose-lions. Whatever they might be talking about, Aang is thrilled that the discussion has lasted this long and that the boy is beaming from ear to ear.
Eventually Ryuu climbs into Azula’s lap. The princess shoots him another uncertain glance before holding their son against her chest.
That night he is pleased to watch her tuck the boy into bed for a change.
And more pleased still to hear the boy ask for a bedtime story. Decidedly, this is the time to intervene lest Azula resort to a wartime story. He finds a spot on the bed next to Azula and rests his hand atop hers.
“How about a story about the Western Air Temple?” Aang offers, only for Ryuu to shake his head.
“I want a Fire Nation story.” He looks at Azula.
“What kind of Fire Nation story?” Azula asks.
He thinks for a moment. “Uuummmm, something about dragons!”
Azula clears her throat, “my cousin Lu Ten used to tell me dragon stories. I don’t remember them exactly…”
“Then make something up.” Ryuu snuggles against his pillow.
.oOo.
“You did great, Azula.” Aang assures her.
“I don’t know, it sure didn’t feel like I did.”
He presses a kiss to the back of her neck. “This is our first child, of course you aren’t going to know exactly what you’re doing. Zuko and Mai are still figuring things out with Izumi. You made him smile today.”
“Yes, today. What about tomorrow?”
“We’ll find out when tomorrow happens.” Aang gestures for her to lay down. He watches her attempt to make herself comfortable. He knows that she has a lot on her mind. A lot of hope and a lot of dread. He rubs little circles upon her back. “Trust me, he has a lot more lion-moose facts to give you. He’ll tell you about how school is going if you ask him. He’s already at the top of his classes.”
“Naturally. He is my son.” She mutters. “But that does please me to hear. He is a smart boy.”
“Tell him that.” Aang grins. “He loves compliments. Just tell him the things that you would have liked to hear when you were his age.”
He makes it sound so simple. Or maybe it is she that is over complicating things. She had, afterall gotten on quite well with Ryuu when they were talking about silly trivial things. Things that, in retrospect, a small child would enjoy discussing. “Do you think that he’ll like me better when he’s older?”
“I think that you’ll find more common ground.” Aang agrees. “But he already loves you Azula. He tells me that he’s sometimes worry that you don’t love him.” He pauses. “He’s only five. You have to tell him that you love him.”
Azula nods, she supposes that it would have helped to have heard her own mother say as much. “I can do that, Avatar.”
“Good. Tomorrow morning, you tell him that.” He kisses her on the nose. “And just so you know, I love you.”

Azulaang week prompt: Secret Dating.
@azulaang-week-2021
Azula wishes she could say she never kissed him while sober.
She was one hundred percent stone-cold sober when the Avatar had walked back from defeating her father with a bending ability no one has ever heard of. This scrawny pacifist was dead by her hands no less and now he was walking towards her with no other scratch on him besides her mark as if he was some savior?
Well, he wasn’t.
Azula had felt a flare of desire. A need to remind the Avatar that he wasn’t perfect. That he was her prey. And so she had smacked a kiss on his jaw and said, “Congratulations.”
The look on his face had been hilarious.
Then the Avatar had to go and ruin it.
“Why did you kiss me?” he asked with a tilt of his head and an adorable pout.
To ruin you.
