Zagreus glances down at his hands. Gold rings adorn each finger, inset with gems of all colors, decadence he’s suddenly ashamed of. He never gives his jewelry a second thought on Olympus. Everyone is shining and glittering and ornamented there. But down here, with Thanatos in bronze armor, his weapons laying on the ground beside him, he feels inadequate, almost silly.

“What else is there to do?” Zagreus asks, keeping his eyes on the fire. “All they do is party and fight amongst themselves and drink ambrosia and betray each other. Nothing for me to do but sit there and watch and drink.”

He takes a sip, as though to illustrate his point. The ambrosia snakes down his dry throat. It tastes like evening air today, warmed by fire, illuminated by the moon, the sounds of crickets chirping in the air.

“They,” Thanatos says.

“What?”

“You referred to the Olympians as they. Not we.”

Zagreus, a perpetually bored Olympic god, finds some entertainment in dying again and again when he learns that the mysterious Thanatos is always summoned to collect his uncollectable soul.

Barok is certainly correct in his assessment - Enoch would not dare to start a fight with the man, well aware that he would lose near-instantly. Besides that, he has no real desire to antagonize him regardless - but he finds himself surprised by his own disappointment when Barok seems to accept his newfound innocence so easily.

Perhaps disappointment isn't the right word, but... maybe he had been looking for an excuse to justify his own distaste for the prosecutor - or maybe it's just irritation at seeing yet again how Barok clings to those ideals of "justice" even now. How can he still believe in the fairness of the jury, made up of people who are all too easily swayed by gossip and their own ignorant imaginations?

If Enoch were to be completely honest with himself, he'd admit that even he's not aware of why he feels the way he does. He has never been as honest with himself as he wants to admit, nor as unaffected by the meaningless tides of petty emotion as he hopes to be.

"Oh, I don't know. The eye of the law is ever eager to keep me in it's sights." It's not as easy to scam or deceive the brainless idealists when everyone is looking for any excuse to throw him into the cells again - a shame, really, but it's not something he can do anything about.

"I invent things, here and there." Which, make no mistake - he does enjoy having the freedom to do at all, even if he has to be more... careful with what he makes. "But what else is there left to do for a man like me? I'm sure you understand."

There are no hopes or dreams left for him now. ...But it's been that way for ten long years. Really, his own crimes haven't done a thing to change that.

"Things have been difficult for you too, haven't they? Or so I hear."

❛ mere semantics ❜ — is what barok wishes to say. But he refrains; there is still, after all, a line between murder and attempted murder. A line which Drebber never crossed no matter his every intention... intentions which he confessed in their entirety to a courtroom. So Barok grunts his concession, even as he shifts his stance ever so slightly and folds his arms across his chest. The instinct to broaden himself and to draw his shoulders high, Barok knows, is not unlike that of a tightly-strung dog that has found itself confronted by the littlest of threats. Still, he cannot help the need to stand at attention.

Barok has little reason to believe that Drebber would chance a physical fight, and in the public eye. That brawl would end rather quickly — though Drebber is certainly a tall man ( and a clever one; really, it is his cleverness which arms him with such dangerous potential ), he is far too wiry and looks little more than bones wearing gaunt skin. Even his cleverness will do him no good when he stands in such proximity to a skilled swordsman.

And Drebber, Barok thinks, values his newfound freedom more than he would admit. It is unlikely that the man will jeopardise this rare and sudden favourable hand dealt to him... that dreadful smile that Drebber bared so often in the Old Bailey is notably absent, too. Perhaps expecting anything from a man so recently bitter and blinded by rage is on its own a mistake — but. Just maybe, Barok can expect something more than antagonising and malice from this exchange. 

And if there is any hope of that, Barok must manage the aggression seeping into his own responses. Not an easy task when Albert ( ... and Naruhodo, too ) linger so close to the front of his mind. But then again, he has spent the better part of the decade regulating angers only recently put to rest; though in their place have sprung fresher hates, nearly all of them turned within.

❛ I certainly have no means to prove otherwise. ❜ Nor will he go out of his way to seek any proof. ❛ ... if, in the jury's eyes, you are innocent enough to walk out of the courtroom as a free man — then I have no objection. ❜

He watched Drebber's face as the man spoke. No mocking smiles. Nor any of the clacking and twisting displays that he had put on in the courtroom.

Barok is hardly equipped to judge a man's character. Not after all that he thought he knew of the few men he'd allowed himself to lean upon had been so swiftly shattered. There is little reason to doubt Drebber's words. And, really — has Barok never once believed in the idea of a life for a life? Genshin's for Klint's... and though it was a rope that was meant to take Genshin's life and a gun that dealt the killing blow, could Barok claim his conscience clean? His hands unstained?

He has no right to go casting stones at Enoch Drebber.

Nonetheless, he is curious: ❛ Pray tell — with what, exactly, do you now occupy your new wealth of time? ❜

For those who didnt know, I got Red Hood(and apparently the red robin) to hijack the batmobile with me. So far, as the driver, I have run over the joker three times, and hit one door.

These 3, names are created out of letters already in their og names, and no this pic is not up to the correct size. (I think)

From left to right,

Silow- Shadow and Silver (2nd shortest, 3'6 ft)

They had the hardest design changes in color and overall vibes. But they used to be based off of rusting (from the red stripes from Shadow) metal (from Silver's- yknow silver). But that didn't work out how I wanted it to :(

Mutation- They have two mouths; it was better than the other idea that I had.

Personality- Think of a kid who loves the people they know, but isn't open to outsiders even looking at them. While still being soft-spoken and overthinks things 24/7/12/365.

Sivni- Silver and Sonic (2nd tallest, 4')

I had the easiest time designing and choosing colors for them. They're based off of clouds by just a little.

Mutation- Eyes and ears are a little funky on purpose.

Personality- Very 'air-headed', but loves playing games. Aka, Pov: ADHD if it was a person.

Sadhno- Sonic and Shadow (shortest, 3'1 ft (rip))

They are the first one I made, and have been through a lot of different changes. But they are black-light themed now.

Mutation- "Doubled eye'd", they used to have four arms, four ears, and three eyes but I decided to change/swap it out with the 'All three' fusion.

Personality- Nice and sweet with new people but is a little hot-headed when it comes to people touching their stuff.

Lavindir- Sonic, Shadow, Silver (Tallest, nearly 5'3 ft)

Add blue, red, and white together? Yeah, that's purple. And what's a fitting name for it that you can also spell out with their names? Lavender!

Gave them brown boots and gloves so that their shoes won't become off-putting colors that I don't like. I adore the colors I made for the three eyes tho.

Mutations- Six arms, a long bent tail, three eyes, and four ears.

Personality- Responsible adult who can get distracted easily.

Mainly has Shadows smarts, Silvers determination, and Sonics attachment issues. /j

Like nearly the beta of Betas if I didn't include the old first drawings of Sadhno. Apparently, they're named Andso in this drawing; I do like the Nilvor and Verow names but I wanted to stick with the S starts in all of the names besides Lavindir.

This was a sketch I made right after to figure out their personalities a lot more, but I don't think Sadhno's and Lavindir's work out as well as I wanted them to.
