Sabine and Aylan (I can't for sure remember how many A's are in his name, sorry if I misspelled it) in a secret agents AU?
oh my gosh you have no idea how much this delights me (don't worry you spelled it right!)
--
"Bombshell, this is Beefcake. Do you read me? Over."
"First of all, we're not using those codenames," Sabine sighed, rolling her eyes. "And second of all, I'm standing right next to you."
Aylan's obnoxious grin got obnoxious-er, and he spoke in a whisper, barely audible over the sound of the orchestra. "You haven't answered the question. Over."
Sabine held his gaze for a moment, then decided it wasn't a hill she wanted to die on. "Yeah. I read you. Over."
"We look super hot. Over."
He was right, but Sabine didn't want to encourage him by replying. Instead, she scanned the crowd milling about and took a little sip from the wine glass she cradled in her gloved hand.
Sabine had to admit, Aylan had grown on her. She hadn't liked him much at the beginning. Partly because she was disappointed that her usual partner broke his leg doing something stupid (this is why we don't pet bears, Ezra) and she wouldn't have liked any replacement, and partly because she thought Aylan was yet another good-looking, cocky agent with a flirtatious streak.
And... he was.
But there was more to him.
He had a deep, almost passionate way of caring about people---just people, anyone, everyone---that she never would have guessed by looking at him. He could be funny, occasionally. And he had handcrafted an elaborate enclosure in the style of a 14th-century English manor house for his two gerbils, Lava Lamp and Wet Paint.
Any guy who could do that was OK in her book.
But... being around him for more than 20 minutes at once was a lot. He got more intense as the minutes passed. And Sabine was kind of at her Ay-limit right now.
"You should mingle," she suggested to him. "Go socialize."
"But---"
"Look, there's that cute blonde girl. Go flirt."
"Ooh, me likey---yes, Ma'am!" Aylan said, snapping her a spiffy salute. Then, dropping his voice to a whisper, he added, "Beefcake out. Over."
Against her best efforts, an amused smile forced its way onto her face. "Still not gonna call you Beefcake. Over."

been a WHILE since i posted and so here, have some quotes i got from an incorrect quote generator
Rune: Apparently, it was Rude™ of me to pitch in my two cents on a conversation I happened to overhear, despite agreeing with them. Rune: On an unrelated note, I am no longer allowed in the ceiling vents. --- Katka: So, I heard you like bad girls… Katka: I'm bad. Katka: At everything. Katka: *winks with both eyes* --- Eris: I am not a lunatic. I have the psychiatric report to prove it. A slender majority of the panel decided in my favor. --- Aylan: In alcohol’s defense, I’ve done some pretty dumb things while completely sober too. --- Jadan: Do you even, cuddle, bro? Do you even lift, bro… each other up with kindness? Do you tell your loved ones that you care about them regardless of who is listening? DO YOU EVER RESOLVE CONFLICTS, EMOTIONAL ISSUES THROUGH COMPROMISE AND COMPASSION RATHER THAN ANGER AND DENIAL?! --- Vindict: Am I a good person? No. But do I try to be better every single day? Also no. --- Diani: I am not an early bird or a night owl. I am some form of permanently exhausted pigeon. --- Shipper: I just found out that humans are capable of fitting a light bulb into their mouth with ease but can’t take it out without shattering it, and now Buttons has to physically restrain me from putting a light bulb in my mouth  --- Aaray: Assert your dominance over your friends by stabbing them through the chest, and then giving them a little smooch on the forehead. --- Esme as a child: I can’t wait to grow up and have cool adventures! Esme now: I can’t wait to go to bed. --- Zhaya: No problemo! Zhaya, internally: But it was all problemo. --- Edessa: I can't stay tonight; I have work to do. Calder: But, Dessie, I'll be so lonely without you! Come curl up in my arms so I can feel whole again. Edessa: …are you trying to seduce me into healthy sleeping patterns?? Calder: Calder: Is it working?

hi everyone, i just wanted to come on here and make this post. like a lot of you, i’ve been deeply affected by what’s been going on in Gaza the past few weeks. It has quite literally altered my brain and the way i’ve been able to live my life day-to-day. even though i’m not Palestinian, i’ve grown up learning about the fight for Palestinian liberation. my real name (bless my parents), literally references the land of Palestine.
i know there’s a lot of grief in our hearts, watching genocide happen live on our screens in front of our very eyes. It’s heavy and it’s traumatic and the human body isn’t built to withstand this much grief and trauma without it fundamentally altering us. I’ve been struggling a lot with my grief recently, and how to make sense of it, and in doing so, i’ve tried to challenge myself that whenever i need a “break” from the news, or i just need to do something that makes me fundamentally human (like watching a movie, listening to music, making food), i’m going to try and engage with content from Palestinian creatives as a way to stay dialed in and to never stop speaking up. i thought i’d share some of what i’ve been engaging with in order to keep learning about Palestine and its people, and to make sure their voices are always heard.
disclaimer: this list is not meant to be comprehensive or exhaustive, as I still have a lot to look through, but feel free to reblog with your own additions!
Read:
A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum - In Brooklyn, eighteen-year-old Deya is starting to meet with suitors. Though she doesn’t want to get married, her grandparents give her no choice. History is repeating itself: Deya’s mother, Isra, also had no choice when she left Palestine as a teenager to marry Adam. Though Deya was raised to believe her parents died in a car accident, a secret note from a mysterious, yet familiar-looking woman makes Deya question everything she was told about her past. As the narrative alternates between the lives of Deya and Isra, she begins to understand the dark, complex secrets behind her community.
The author just released a new novel, Evil Eye, which is also on my to-read list.
Against The Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa - As Nahr sits, locked away in solitary confinement, she spends her days reflecting on the dramatic events that landed her in prison in a country she barely knows. Born in Kuwait in the 70s to Palestinian refugees, she dreamed of falling in love with the perfect man, raising children, and possibly opening her own beauty salon. Instead, the man she thinks she loves jilts her after a brief marriage, her family teeters on the brink of poverty, she’s forced to prostitute herself, and the US invasion of Iraq makes her a refugee, as her parents had been. After trekking through another temporary home in Jordan, she lands in Palestine, where she finally makes a home, falls in love, and her destiny unfolds under Israeli occupation.
Susan Abulhawa is also the author of Mornings in Jenin, a fantastic novel that describes the Nakba (Catastrophe) of 1948, in which 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homes by the Occupation Forces, and The Blue Between Sky and Water, a story about four generations of a Palestinian family in a refugee camp in Gaza.
Salt Houses by Hala Aylan - On the eve of her daughter Alia’s wedding, Salma reads the girl’s future in a cup of coffee dregs. She sees an unsettled life for Alia and her children; she also sees travel, and luck. While she chooses to keep her predictions to herself that day, they will all soon come to pass when the family is uprooted in the wake of the Six-Day War of 1967.  Salma is forced to leave her home in Nablus; Alia’s brother gets pulled into a politically militarized world he can’t escape; and Alia and her gentle-spirited husband move to Kuwait City, where they reluctantly build a life with their three children. When Saddam Hussein invades Kuwait in 1990, Alia and her family once again lose their home, their land, and their story as they know it, scattering to Beirut, Paris, Boston, and beyond. Soon Alia’s children begin families of their own, once again navigating the burdens (and blessings) of assimilation in foreign cities.
The Beauty of Your Face by Sahar Mustahfah - Afaf Rahman, the daughter of Palestinian immigrants, is the principal of a Muslim school in the Chicago suburbs. One morning, a shooter—radicalized by the online alt-right—attacks the school. As Afaf listens to his terrifying progress, we are swept back through her memories, and into a profound and “moving” (Bustle) exploration of one woman’s life in a nation at odds with its ideals.
Light In Gaza (anthology) - Light in Gaza is a seminal, moving and wide-ranging anthology of Palestinian writers and artists. It constitutes a collective effort to organize and center Palestinian voices in the ongoing struggle. As political discourse shifts toward futurism as a means of reimagining a better way of living, beyond the violence and limitations of colonialism, Light in Gaza is an urgent and powerful intervention into an important political moment.
E-Book is available for free on Haymarket Books’ website!
The Butterfly’s Burden by Mahmoud Darwish - The Butterfly's Burden combines the complete text of Darwish's two most recent full-length volumes, linked by the stunning memoir-witness poem “A State of Siege.” Love poems, sonnets, journal-like distillations, and interlaced lyrics balance old literary traditions with new forms, highlighting loving reflections alongside bitter longing.
Orientalism by Edward Saïd - In this wide-ranging, intellectually vigorous study, Said traces the origins of "orientalism" to the centuries-long period during which Europe dominated the Middle and Near East and, from its position of power, defined "the orient" simply as "other than" the occident. This entrenched view continues to dominate western ideas and, because it does not allow the East to represent itself, prevents true understanding.
THIS IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS I’VE EVER READ
Watch:
Farha (2021) - After persuading her father to continue her education in the city, a Palestinian girl's dream is shattered by the harrowing developments of the Nakba.
Born In Gaza (2014) - The documentary follows the story of about ten children who tell what their daily life is like after the horror of the war on Gaza in the summer of 2014.
Omar (2013) - Arrested after the death of an Israeli soldier, a Palestinian baker agrees to work as an informant, but his true motives and alliances remain hidden.
Mo (2022) - Mo Najjar straddles the line between two cultures, three languages and a ton of foolishness as a Palestinian refugee constantly living one step away from asylum on the path to U.S. citizenship.
Listen:
Saint Levant - born Marwan Abdelhamid, is a Palestinian/French/Algerian/Serbian artist based in California. He was born in Jerusalem during the second Intifada due to complications in the city where he would eventually spend his childhood years – the Gaza Strip.
Check out: From Gaza, With Love
Nehmasis - Nemahsis is the stage name of Nemah Hasan, a Palestinian Canadian pop singer from Toronto, Ontario
Check out: i wanna be your right hand
Zeyne - Zeyne is a Jordanian/Palestinian singer, songwriter and musician. A voice passed down from her grandmother down to her mother and then to her, 'songbird' zeyne seeks to create music that shares her truths and perspectives in the hopes of connecting with others worldwide.
Check out: Balak
Belly -Ahmad Balshe, known professionally as Belly, is a Palestinian-Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Born in Jenin, Balshe was raised in Ottawa.
Check out: Xion
Eat:
Mxriyum - Mariam is a Palestinian home cook behind the ever popular account TikTok and Instagram, Mxriyum.
Heifa (fufuinthekitchen) - I’m a first-generation Palestinian American raised in NJ but now calls Chicago home. I am the founder, recipe developer, and food photographer behind Fufu’s Kitchen. And if you are wondering, Fufu is my nickname-it just stuck!
Hanan Saeed (palestinianfoodie)
Joudie Kalla - Joudie Kalla is a Palestinian-British chef and food writer. She is the author of two prizewinning cookbooks, Palestine on a Plate: Memories from My Mother’s Kitchen, and Baladi: A Celebration of Food from Land and Sea, and has featured in venues like The New York Times, The Guardian, and Al Jazeera
Shop:
Nominal - co-founded by Lena Sarsour, a Palestinian, Nominal creates Arabic-inspired jewelry. They are currently donating 100% of proceeds to Pious Projects, an on-the-ground aid organization working in Gaza, until October 31, 2023.
PaliRoots - Founded in 2016, the PaliRoots mission is to bring awareness to the world about the Palestinian culture by crafting specialty products inspired by its people and identity. They work with Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), to donate a meal to children in Gaza for every order.

Prin Precious - A Welcome Home Persona
Tumblr media
Did this start as just a fun doodle and turn into an un-gourdly time consumer with an unreasonable amount of rising passion and investment into the character? Yes. Yes it did.
Reminder to be kind to Clown, the creator of Welcome Home. Also, respect the boundaries they have set for their characters. If you want more content you have to be nice, otherwise, they won't want to share any more of their work with the world.

Do you have any lore on the fallout between Bhaal and Bane/Myrkul? I never see Bhaal mentioned helping Bane and Myrkul steal the tablets of fate. Bros even went an extra mile and invented a mass death spell that specifically targeted asssassins, stole their souls from Bhaal, and used them to power a giant mega-avatar of Bane. Are these just pecking-order affirming behaviors within the Dead Three? Or did someone get cheated on and I'm missing out on hot, Bhaal-flavored tea?
I haven't read the whole Avatar series, I'm just flicking through it at the moment, so I don't know a whole lot rn (other than the fact that Bhaal was already aware that he was destined to die in this mess, so I assume he knew the plan to steal the tablets was doomed to start and maybe refused to get involved.)
I'll get back to this at a later date when I know what I'm talking about, but I can say he, ah, wasn't happy about the death of his followers (maybe you've read the books, but for those of us who haven't):
“Yes, kill Helm,” he finally confirmed. “I can’t kill a god!” Midnight yelped, astounded. “You killed Torm,” Bhaal growled. “And Bane.” He pulled the thongs painfully tight. “All I did was ring the Bell of Aylan Attricus! I saved Tantras. Bane and Torm killed each other.” “There’s no need for modesty,” Bhaal said. He finished binding Midnight’s hands and stepped away. “Lord Myrkul is the one who’s angry about the Black Lord’s death. After Bane destroyed my assassins, I was happy to see him die.”
It seems its still on with Myrkul for now, but he's very pissed at Bane. Love how Myrkul is still m'lord, but Bane is just Bane.
Featuring Bhaal kidnapping Gale's future ex-girlfriend and trying to get her to assassinate the god of guardians so he can get the fuck out of the mortal realm (supposedly) while bitching about his ex(es).

The Eye of Sauron in the Amazon
ITA version ESP version
It is not always easy to agree on a name for new species, but researchers at the Natural History Museum in London had no doubts when they encountered new species of vegetarian piranhas.
But let’s take a step back. In the past, defining an animal as belonging to a new species often relied on morphological characteristics. This is the case with the genus Myloplus, particularly the species Myloplus schomburgkii. Under this name, fish were grouped together that could be easily recognised by their vertical black bar in the centre of the body and their diet mainly consisting of plants and some insects, despite their close relationship to piranhas. Through a new and careful morphological analysis of multiple specimens combined with DNA barcoding, researchers realised that within the species Myloplus schomburgkii, there were actually two other species, all with a dark vertical bar on the side, but genetically distinct!
The two new species were named M. aylan and M. sauron. The specific name M. aylan honours the late Aylan Moraes Andrade, the son of Carine Moraes and Marcelo Andrade, one of the authors, who passed away prematurely. The specific name M. sauron alludes to the Eye of Sauron from J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” as its body is marked with a vertical black bar tapering towards both ends, resembling the famous vertical-pupilled eye from the novel. Additionally, some specimens also have orange spots on their bodies, just like the Eye!
How did the researchers realise they were dealing with multiple species? They found significant molecular distances between the three lineages, well beyond the minimum threshold for fish species DNA barcoding (2%-3%). Myloplus schomburgkii differs from M. aylan and M. sauron by 7.9% and 9.7% respectively. The distance between M. aylan and M. sauron was even greater, at 11%.
The differences between the three species are not limited to genetics. To a keen eye, the same dark vertical bar can be easily used to distinguish the three species. Myloplus schomburgkii has a uniformly wide vertical dark bar compared to the two new species. In M. sauron, the vertical black bar tapers towards the ends forming tapered distal points, while in M. aylan, the vertical dark bar has a broader region near the lateral line and the ends do not taper.
The naming of the new species M. aylan and M. sauron reflects the deep connection between science and society, where every name tells a story. This discovery, made possible through a combination of morphological and genetic analyses, reminds us that our understanding of the natural world is continuously evolving. Nature always surprises us, and the identification of these new species highlights how vast and still partly unknown the animal kingdom is. The researchers invite us to maintain a watchful and curious eye, just like the Eye of Sauron, to continue exploring and discovering the wonders of nature.

😏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 and I don't have the right emoji on my phone but who's your favorite arthuriana parent?
😏- Gawain?
This guy. This guy. I do think I have quite a different idea of who he is since one of my Core Arthurian texts is Gawain and the green knight. I also really like the wedding of sir Gawain and dame ragnelle so my thoughts about him are essentially “oh he gets bitches” which tbh if I was straight I would be a Gawain girlie. However apart from like those two stories, do not shack up with that guy. Especially if you are narratively in the vulgate. It’s going to cause problems, he’s basically a Jason character in the vulgate, but a bit more charming. He’s so interesting to me because he changes so much in the different stories- he’s the best of Arthur’s court, he’s the worst of them, he’s married, he’s a perpetual bachelor, he’s super chivalrous all the time, he’s killed a hundred people in a rage, ect. His narrative inconsistency is so sexy.
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿- Pick A Pelli Spawn (Percival, Aglovale, Tor, Lamorak, Aylane, Dindrane, Donar, ect)
Percival 10%. He’s my guy. I have a paper in the works about symbolic sex and thigh wounds and Christianity ect basically arguing that the thigh stabbing scene in le morte is both a castration and an orgasm. Which is really hard to bring up at parties when people ask what I’m interested in. Also read spear by Nicola Griffiths it’s good. There is not a version of Perceval I’ve met so far that I don’t like, though he’s much less fractured in characterization than Gawain or Kay. Though I will admit I haven’t actually read his section in the vulgate yet- I’ve read none of the grail quest narratives from the vulgate as of now.
Favorite Arthurian parent-
In terms of favorite to dissect: Arthur. He’s so interesting in terms of succession and children especially the mayday massacre and I love to dissect that. In terms of least shitty: Morgan actually has some really cute moments with Lancelot in the vulgate so I’m going to pick her despite the everything else about her. (I also want to look at the eyelid kissing in the vulgate and contrast it with Catullus)
