Okay, so. I've been thinking a lot about, like- how fish hybrid characters are drawn. Or mermaid, axolotl, etc. Usually it's Niki or Lizzie or Jimmy, sometimes Pearl or Grian, yk stuff like that. Some weird canonness that makes people go "mmm fish." and the thing that I find weird, is the clothes. Because think about it. If you lived in the water constantly, clothes would just be really fucking annoying. I'm not saying to just make them exclusively naked because that's weird don't do that, but just some food for thought about why.

so yeah this originally started bc an old friend of mine and i were talking and i forget who suggested it but we were like "hey wouldn't tommyinnit as link be so funny? because tommyinnit is like the exact opposite kind of feral-energy of botw link. loud and swears and uncontrollable and headstrong. hylia's most annoying hero." and things just devolved from there. it's fully a Crack Treated Seriously situation because i spent actual months working out lore n worldbuilding and whatnot fhdjskhfdk.

the fic is officially called Well, Excuuuuuuuse Me, Big Man: The BotW AU No One Asked For (or WEMBM for short)

basic layout (as far as i went with it anyway):

tommy more-or-less follows the order of what you're "supposed" to do to to beat the game: plateau->kakariko->hateno->kakariko again->four main regions->master sword->ganon. of course there are a lot of detours and back-tracking and skipping around for hyjinx

main regions/inhabitants are replaced: Zora->Axols (axolotl "hybrids"), Gorons->Piglins, Rito->Elytrians, Gerudo->Enderians

each of the above races have their own cultures that are loosely based off of the game's original counterparts and some mcrp fanon + personal headcanons thrown in. they're customized to incorporate some (mild) minecraft elements!!

old champions: Mipha->Niki, Daruk->Technoblade, Rivali->Philza, Urbosa->Ran (based loosely off of tftsmp Ran, effectively an oc lmao????)

new champions: Sidon->Foolish (Niki's younger brother) and Jack (Niki's best friend), Yunobo->Drista, Teba->Wilbur, Riju->Ranboo

all of their personalities more-or-less remain intact (which is why the fact that i put The Old Man / King Rhoam as Schlatt so fucking funny)

divine beasts keep their names but the creatures change!! Ruta is a glow squid, Rudania is a blaze, Medoh is still a bird (LMAO i might change this because...), Naboris is a phantom

some scattered details

wilbur is both the "new" champion role AND kass' role!! he and tommy meet early on in his journey (at his first visit to Hateno) but tommy doesn't learn about wilbur's heritage (Philza was his great great great grandfather) until MUCH later. they run into each other a lot during their travels.

wilbur also has a hardcore crush on an axol warrior named sally, which tommy teases and embarrasses him relentlessly for

tubbo (zelda-role) keeps zelda's arc of not being able to develop powers. the key difference is that tommy and tubbo are friends before the calamity business starts to get serious, and tubbo's frustration drives a wedge between them

(angst time: clingy duo has a Big Fight during that one sheikah slate Memory on the palace tower bridge, and they never get the chance to apologize to each other before it all goes to shit and tommy dies sacrificing himself to save tubbo.)

techno and phil are old friends from when they'd do colosseum fights together. they haven't talked much for a few years before becoming champions, both too busy with their respective duties at home, but the moment they realize they've both been recruited well, they're inseparable

windbombing, bullet-time bouncing, and shield clipping are canon. don't question it.

champion ran is a dick (think revali) and the only one there they respect is niki because they underestimated her and then she proceeded to floor them during a sparring session (and she didn't even threaten them with a water based attack, it was all skill)

awesamdude (most people call him "sam", he's ranboo's personal guard) has a half brother named awesamnook (most people call him "nook" or "samnook"). he's the Beedle-role and he talks in all caps like an npc ("HELLO TRAVELER." "Why are you shouting---" "HAVE A LOOK AT MY WARES." "Okay---")

bad runs the yiga-equivalent egg cult that, instead of disguising themselves as travelers, simply uses sprouts of blood-red flowers with a toxic pollen to mind-control bystanders into attacking tommy (yikes)

have some highlights from the few chapters i've written of tommy on the great plateau (yes, the entire google doc is written in comic sans)

I really like working on designs bc i get to imagine and assign an animal (most of the time) to a cubito. I've seen art of pac as a blue butterfly lately and I can't get it out of my head. And it'd go well with the fact that my qtubbo design is also a butterfly. They go along :D

AU where the Server gets reset because of something, and everyone else with it. 

They spawn into different biomes, all as hybrids, memories locked away and replaced by much lighter ones. Most of which mean nobody ever knew each other.

One day, Enderman hybrid Ranboo meets a piglin hybrid in the Nether, and suddenly, both have flashes of a different life, and a End Portal.

Whether it’s a past life, or something else, the two agree they need to find the portal to get the answers they need.

So Ranboo and Techno set off, leaving the Nether for better or worse on a quest to find the truth. And along the way, they find the people they never realized they had been missing.

Things:

Not sure whether to make the reset more of a reincarnation thing for everyone, or just a locked away memories thing.

Tommy, Sapnap, and Hannah grew up together, and are all very close.

Tubbo’s forest has a ruined portal in it, which he activated. This is how he found Michael, now a piglin hybrid, and re-adopted him, even if he doesn’t remember ever adopting him the first time.

Besides Michael, Tubbo’s been alone in the forest his whole life. 

Karl, Purpled, and Ponk are all part of a pack of wolves, and will attack anyone who hurts their group. They were quite literally raised by wolves.

Phantom Philza has traveled all around the world, and does so until he meets Techno and Ranboo on their quest.

Jack’s the first person Ranboo and Techno run into, and he reluctantly goes with him, purely because he’s curious of the Overworld. 

Ranboo is fully an Endermen hybrid. He doesn’t have another half.

Wilbur has glowing markings all over his body. The biggest is dead in the center of his chest. Looking at it makes him uncomfortable.

The village gang lives in a fairly small plains village, and they like to annoy each other.

quick notes:

aimsey, eryn, jack, and tommy were all made in the same lab by the same doctors (jack was 004, tommy was 006, eryn was 007, and aimsey was 008)

if someone is listed as being 1/2 something etc, that means they are, in the most literal sense, 1/2 that. for example: techno is 1/2 piglin and 1/2 pig, meaning one parent was a piglin and the other was a pig. literally.

if someone is listed as a hybrid of two creatures, it means they are mostly human (normally) with certain non human parts. for example karl: he’s a human/mouse hybrid, meaning he is fully human, except for mouse ears and tails

if someone is listed as being a humanoid creature, it means they are just an animal that looks humanoid (stands on two legs, has neck, has two arms, etc etc). for example puffy: she’s a humanoid sheep, meaning she is sheep that has evolved to look human

there are three types of shapeshifters: 

full shapeshifters (can fully change and alter their appearance to anything at will. only full gods have this type of shapeshifting)

appearance shifters (can change parts of their appearance at will, but mostly stuck to minor alterations. for example quackity: he’s a duck/human hybrid, so he’s human with certain duck features. he can shapeshift, but he can’t become anything that wouldn’t make sense for a duck/human hybrid (eg he cant give himself horns, or suddenly grow taller))

mimics (start as normal humans, but will copy (or mimic) other people’s appearances. for example tubbo: has ram horns, pig legs, and endermen horns)

here are the types of demons i have

when the nether was first created (by drista), certain humans got trapped inside with no portal, and over time (like 1000 years) evolved into demons. original demons are very reminiscent of humans, just with horns, tail, and different skin tones (usually more red/purple)

after a while, the nether itself began to evolve and develop it’s own ecosystems and biomes. as groups of demons moved throughout the nether, they adapted to the different biomes as such:

waste demons - live in nether waste. not much different from original demon. usually travellers or merchants. can move and live in any biome with little fuss. survivalists.

crimson gold demons - live in crimson forest. much larger and stronger. big pig-like tusks. live around piglins, but don’t usually interact with them (usually fight). hunters and fighters. 

twisters - live in warped forest. much taller and skinnier. have the most variety among themselves, with a wide range of different skin, hair, and eye colour, and various horn/tail types. live peacefully around the endermen but usually don’t interact. ample food supply, so most pass time by playing games.

delta demons - live in basalt delta. largest type of demon. strong arms and legs, even with a strong tail that can be used to grab things (similar to a monkey’s tail). usually more focused on survival than anything.

valley demon - live in soulsand valley. built for going fast. long legs, and rather small feet. quite tall. eat bones and ghast meat. the only type of demon to not have naturally red skin; most of them have blue skin.
