2 - Enjoyable Reunion
Tumblr media
Part 3
Dr. Redheaded Neighbor
Tag list - send an ask to be added @annieradcliff
“Will, I am really sorry about him.” I finally broke myself from the daze he had managed to put me in. I wasn’t expecting to meet him until very late tonight as a surprised outside his apartment door considering we were right across from the other.
Tugging Maxon off of him by his collar it gave Will the chance to move onto his knees opening his arms for my doggy. “Come here, Max. How’s my favorite doggy been huh?” He ran his fingers through his fur causing his tail to wag happily.
“I’m guessing he thought you were following me or something. Given the fact that he was trained to always be aware of everything around us in the field.” I shrugged my shoulders at him.
Will paused his attention on Maxon looking up at me. “Don’t worry about it, Mal. Now come here and let give ya a welcome home hug.” He opened his arms wide out for me.
“I’ve missed you, Halstead.” I giggled flinging my arms around his neck and he buried his face into my hair holding me against his chest for a few seconds.
Maxon barked feelings left out causing us to separate from one another when Will ruffled a hand through his fur for a second time. “Since you guys just got in. How about I take you out for dinner?”
“Awe, Will. That’s awful nice of you.” I replied missing his kind gestures like this reminding me of the night we first met at the apartment building.
He eyed my bag sitting at my boots. “We could drop your stuff off and then head out. I’m not sure Molly’s will let Maxon inside but there should be some other places.”
“Hang on a sec. I have to ask how you ended up getting here at the same time as us. I mean I didn’t text or call you before we landed that would have given you enough time.”
He explained. “We had a patient call in to 911 and said they couldn’t make it to the hospital without help. I was just about to head back actually before I got tackled by your dog.”
“I am really sorry about that.”
He raised his hands up in front of his chest. “Stop apologizing, Mallory.”
“But if he had done that to someone else, they would have been really pissed. So, I just feel bad.”
He sent me a bright smile. “Good thing you know me. Now are we getting dinner, or would you rather knock off those heavy boots on a couch and I’ll see you when I get done with my shift.”
“Hmm both options sound good to me. How about this we flip a coin and that decides what we do.” I suggested figuring the waiting would kill him. He was very smart, but I always kept him on his toes.
Will rolled his eyes reaching into his wallet taking out a coin. “Call it.”
“Heads.” I cheered watching him flick it off his thumb and into the air.
Will caught it in his other open palm. “Okay it’s head. So which option did you choose?”
“You get to take us out for dinner.” I sent him a cheecky grin with my hands behind my back leaning back and forth on my tippy toes.
He nodded reaching down at the same time as me grabbing the straps of the duffel bag that had my gear in. Along with my backpack that I was carrying on my shoulders until I caught up with Maxon. “Ah ah. Let me get this. And I’m paying for dinner no exceptions.”
“Alright Halstead.” I held my hands up in surrender watching him start walking forward and I followed him. Maxon barked getting up and following my hip on the other side of me.
By the time we had taken my stuff up and I had changed out of my clothes it was getting late in the evening. Will had called his boss and saying he had a family matter come up so he couldn’t come work in the ED tonight. Will decided to hang out on the couch with Maxon until I got changed. Opening the door I wissled making my dog lift his head up from his paws and peeking his head over the edge of the furniture. “Does this seem okay for tonight?”
“You look great to me.” Will shifts in his spot on the coach looking back at me.
I had switched into a tan tea shirt that had sleeves that went down to my elbows. Leaving my hair loose compared to normally having it up in a ponytail. “Awe thanks. Would you hate me if I said let’s go walk around and maybe get some food truck tacos.” I had kept my cameo pants on since I still had some bandages underneath the metal brace I had on my leg.
“Tacos don’t sound too bad to me.” Will got off the couch and Maxon jumped off the furniture heading to the door with him. The three of us made our way down to the pear and began our walk through the clear boardwalk.
I pause our walk leaning my elbows on the wooden railing my hair was somewhat blowing in my face. “So do you have any special gal in your life?”
“Nah. I’ve made a rule to not date my coworkers.” He put his hands together. “Although I do have this one named Natalie that I’m pretty close with. So what about you?”
I snorted out a laugh. “You think I’ve got time for a relationship when I’m looking for explosives Halstead?”
“I guess that’s a bad assumption on my part.” He chuckled.
“You think.”
He ran a hand through his auburn curls. “So how did you get the brace on your leg then?”
“So bout that. I don’t know how exactly. I’ve got some memory loss from our last mission according to one of the doctors.”
Will touched my hand closet to his. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
“It’s okay. Hopefully I’ll have my answer someday.”
He turns to face me reaching his hand up brushing hair out of my eyes and his palm touches my cheek. “Knowing you you’ll figure it out. You’re pretty smart in my opinion.”
“Thanks, Will.” I replied feeling his gaze focus on mine and my face turned slightly red. We remained standing like that for a few minutes. I definitely had missed seeing him more than I thought I would have, maybe more than friends but I’d never tell him that until I was certain.
Maxon suddenly barked causing us to break away from our current state. “Sorry Maxon. You must be hungry bud.” Will chuckled down at my furry pal.
“Onward to tacos!” I cheered throwing a fist into the air and Will draped an arm over my shoulder tugging me closer heading to the nearest taco truck.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

When Paul first invited the Quarry Men to rehearse at his house - and to meet his dad - he met them in town to walk them over. On the way back they ran into a sailor returning home on leave, who was really excited to meet a band, and insisted that they come to the pub and play him a song.
Colin Hall (the book's narrator) writes:
"It was an offer the boys could not resist, although Paul's face immediately dropped. This was the last thing he needed. He was reluctant to accept the invitation because he knew his dad was waiting to meet the Quarry Men for the very first time. To turn up at home with a bunch of lads about whom he'd told Dad so much, and whom Jim was keen to meet, but who were now likely to arrive 'half cut' was Paul's worst nightmare."
Colin Hanton explains how they had a couple of pints and sang the guy a song as they left. He then says:
"Paul was clearly anxious that his dad would smell the beer on our breath and frustrated that there was nothing he could do about it. John reassured him we would be alright, it was half a mile at least to number 20 and the walk in the fresh air would take away the smell of the pub and beer. Reassured, but not entirely convinced, Paul walked ahead of us while we followed."
I know it's nothing but I love Paul being "clearly anxious" around these early days and John being okay about it instead of awful.
The meeting with Jim and Mike went fine though, and Colin mentions: "We also learned that their mum, Mary, had passed away a few years earlier."
"After about an hour, as would become the norm for our many rehearsals at Paul's, the glass doors opened and Jim popped his head round to ask if we were ready for a cup of tea. He was very obliging like that and always struck me as a very pleasant, sociable, and friendly man. After Jim served us tea, we carried on for another half hour before calling it a day. I think, despite the beery breath, we had passed the audition. Jim certainly didn't throw us out or make any comments about the smell of beer, he couldn't have been more hospitable. Indeed we were invited back many times to rehearse. Being a musician himself and a former band leader, Jim understood the importance of a good rehearsal space in which you felt at ease. Rehearsing at Paul's house was always enjoyable, Jim was always encouraging, and his warm welcome allowed us to relax and focus on the music."

Essential Packing List for the Trek
When embarking on a short Annapurna Base Camp trek, it is essential to pack wisely to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trekking experience. Here are some items you should include in your packing list:
Trekking boots
Invest in a good pair of trekking boots that provide ankle support and have a sturdy grip. Make sure to break them in before the trek to avoid blisters.
Layers of clothing
Due to the varying temperatures in the mountains, it is important to dress in layers. Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking base layers, warm mid-layers, and a waterproof jacket to protect against rain or snow.
Sleeping bag
A lightweight sleeping bag rated for cold temperatures is necessary for a good night's sleep. Ensure it is compact and easily portable.
Trekking poles
Trekking poles provide stability and support while descending steep sections of the trail. They reduce strain on your knees and help maintain balance.
First aid kit
Carry a basic first aid kit with essentials such as bandages, antiseptic cream, painkillers, and any personal medications you may need.
Sun protection
Don't forget to pack a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with a high SPF to protect you from the strong UV rays at higher altitudes.
Remember to pack light and only carry the essentials. Your trekking agency will provide a detailed packing list, so make sure to follow their recommendations.
Training and Fitness Tips for a Successful Trek
Preparing your body for the physical demands of a short Annapurna Base Camp trek is crucial to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience. Here are some training and fitness tips to help you get ready:
Cardiovascular exercises
Engage in activities that improve your cardiovascular endurance, such as running, cycling, or swimming. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, three to four times a week.
Strength training
Strengthen your leg muscles, core, and upper body to cope with the challenging terrain. Include exercises like squats, lunges, planks, and push-ups in your workout routine.
Hiking practice
If possible, go on practice hikes with a backpack to simulate the trekking conditions. Gradually increase the distance and elevation gain to build your stamina and get accustomed to walking with a load.
Hydration and nutrition
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the trek. Carry energy-rich snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruits to fuel your body during long hiking days.
Remember to listen to your body and take breaks when needed. It's better to go slow and steady than to rush and risk altitude sickness or exhaustion.
Accommodation and Meals During the Trek
During your 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek, you'll stay in teahouses along the trail. Teahouses are basic lodges that provide accommodation and meals for trekkers. Here's what you can expect:
Teahouse accommodation
Teahouses offer simple, cozy rooms with twin beds and shared bathrooms. The rooms may be basic, but they provide a comfortable resting place after a long day of trekking. Blankets and pillows are usually provided, but it's recommended to bring a sleeping bag for added warmth.
Meals
Teahouses serve a variety of meals, including traditional Nepali dishes and international cuisine. Dal Bhat, a local staple consisting of lentil soup, rice, and vegetables, is a popular choice among trekkers. Vegetarian and vegan options are readily available. It's important to eat nutritious meals to fuel your body for the trek.
Water
It's advisable to drink bottled or purified water during the trek to avoid waterborne illnesses. Carry a reusable water bottle and refill it with boiled or filtered water available at the teahouses.
Snacks and drinks
Teahouses also offer a selection of snacks, hot beverages, and soft drinks for purchase. These can be a treat after a long day on the trail, but remember to consume them in moderation.
Teahouses provide a unique opportunity to connect with fellow trekkers and share stories of your adventures. Embrace the simplicity of teahouse life and enjoy the warm hospitality of the locals.
Safety Precautions and Challenges to Be Aware Of
While the Annapurna Base Camp trek is a rewarding experience, it's important to be aware of the potential challenges and take necessary safety precautions. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Altitude sickness
The trek reaches high altitudes, and altitude sickness can affect anyone, regardless of fitness level. Ascend slowly, allow time for acclimatization, and be aware of symptoms such as headache, nausea, and dizziness. If symptoms worsen, descend to a lower altitude immediately.
Weather conditions
Weather in the mountains can be unpredictable. Carry appropriate rain gear and warm clothing to protect yourself from rain, wind, and cold temperatures. Be prepared for sudden changes in weather.
Trail conditions
The trail can be challenging at times, with steep ascents and descents. Pay attention to your footing and use trekking poles for stability. Be cautious of loose rocks and slippery sections, especially during monsoon season.
Travel insurance
It is essential to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers trekking activities, including emergency medical evacuation. Check with your insurance provider to ensure you have adequate coverage.
Follow local guidelines
Respect the local culture and traditions. Observe and follow any guidelines provided by your trekking agency or local authorities. Leave no trace behind and practice responsible trekking.
By being well-prepared and taking necessary precautions, you can minimize risks and have a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.

Journey to Serenity: My Escape to Mandalpatti Trekking Coorg
Tumblr media
Welcome to my exciting travel journey! I recently embarked on a thrilling trek to Mandalpatti, a hidden gem nestled in the verdant hills of Coorg. Mandalpatti, also known as "Mugilu-Pete" (Market of Clouds), is a mesmerizing view point and trekker's paradise. This blog recounts my enthralling experience of Mandalpatti trekking Coorg, providing insights into the breathtaking views from the Mandalpatti peak, the height of the summit, the importance of safety amidst anecdotes of the occasional accident, and recommendations for a cozy homestay near this captivating destination.
The Mandalpatti View Point: A Panoramic Delight
The journey to Mandalpatti starts with a picturesque drive through lush forests and winding roads. As I reached the Mandalpatti view point, my heart swelled with awe as I gazed upon the awe-inspiring sight of the Coorg valley below. The view was a breathtaking blend of rolling hills, mist-laden coffee plantations, and thickets of greenery that seemed to stretch on forever.
Tumblr media
The early morning sunrise painted the sky with hues of pink and gold, casting a magical glow on the landscape. The tranquility of the place and the refreshing breeze made me feel one with nature. I captured this ethereal moment in my heart, cherishing the beauty that surrounded me.
The Mandalpatti Peak Height
The Mandalpatti peak is a trekkers' dream, promising a challenging yet rewarding ascent. The trek commences from the base with well-marked trails leading the way. As I climbed higher, the forest transformed around me, with a blend of tropical trees and exotic flora welcoming me at every step.

The Mandalpatti Peak height is of approximately 1,650 meters above sea level, Mandalpatti revealed its most extraordinary view. The undulating hills and the lush greenery formed a breathtaking mosaic that left me speechless.
Safety First: Lessons from Recent Mandalpatti Accident!
While Mandalpatti is a haven for adventurers, it is crucial to address the aspect of safety during such expeditions, including the sensitive topic of mandalpatti accidents that have occurred in the past. Occasionally, accidents have happened due to reckless behavior or lack of proper guidance. As responsible travelers, it is our utmost duty to exercise caution and diligently follow the guidelines set by authorities.
Before commencing the trek, I ensured I had the necessary supplies such as water, snacks, and first aid. Hiring a local guide familiar with the terrain proved to be invaluable, as they shared their wisdom about safe paths and potential dangers. By being mindful and respectful of the environment, we can preserve the natural beauty of Mandalpatti for generations to come, and collectively contribute to making it a safer and more enjoyable destination for all adventure enthusiasts.

OOOOO BEX YOU INVITED ME TO GIVE YOU POLY!DANBERT AND THAT I WILL GIVE. ok so...herbert is usually the one being the unhinged leg of the tripod while dan and reader are sorta like 'please stop' but. i am in love with the idea of reader and dan being the goofy legs, if that makes any sense... like, the radio comes on and they start singing along to some stupid 80s song instead of helping their boyfriend assemble some fucked up corpse or whatever he wants to do that week. if you need more info let me know but i also trust that you can work your magic no matter what ❤ thank youuuu ilu
AhhhhHHHHHH! RIRI! MY BELOAFED! SO! Oh my GOD! This is so exciting! Writing something officially for the first time for a friend and moot is always so much fun! Especially for a moot and friend as special and talented as yourself! I had a lot of fun with this, just got real silly, domestic and fluffy with it, hope you all enjoy it! Also you are so welcome and Ilysm2 Riri!

Let’s Hear It For The Boy.
Tumblr media
By all accounts the relationship shouldn’t work. Hell it doesn’t even make sense really to anyone else, but who cares about what anyone else has to say about the three of you? I mean they weren’t IN your relationship, you were!
Dan was looking for roommates and both you and Herbert responded, there was a whole house to share after all, you were hoping to just get along with them. To not hate their guts and be able to keep the place running smoothly without having constant fights about the dishes needing to be done or over who can do their laundry when.
You got so much more than that.
Both bad and good.
The bad of course being Herbert dragging you both into his mess with re-animation and all of the fallout that happened with that where you all barely made it out with your lives. If it wasn’t for the three of you being such a united front you are sure it would have turned out much, much worse.
The good is how well you all clicked and how much you all bonded after what happened at the hospital. Nothing bonds people together like horrible secrets, lying to the cops and narrowly escaping death!
It was during that time back at your shared house, all still very physically broken and let’s be honest, a little mentally broken as well, that you managed to come together for one another. Helping out when needed, if someone was having a particularly rough day the others would pick up the slack and just somewhere along the way it just kind of happened, you all fit together and were the only three who understood what you all went through.
Not to mention your similar career paths, schooling and aligning interests.
Things came together easier once that happened, things got lighter, sweeter, and more than that, were built back better than before with the now much stronger base you three had built.
One thing that really helped you and Dan was indulging yourselves in the smaller pleasures of life. Taking enjoyment in the everyday, the joy of just living together, being around each other, doing dumb bits and telling stupid jokes, cooking together and of course the ever changing and difficult task of keeping Herbert in check in regards to his work.
But you all managed, more than that you were kind of thriving, life was fucking good right now.
While ultimately Herbert was happy you two were becoming so close didn’t mean he got it or was any less confusing when he stumbled in on some of what you two were doing to entertain yourselves.
Like coming up from the basement to find you and Dan in the living room, empty drink containers around, pleasantly on the other side of tispy and watching some awful looking made for TV movie. You were on the couch and Dan was sitting on the ground in front of the coffee table, between your legs, leaning against you, your hands were busy, tongue poking out of your mouth as you focused on your task, deep in concentration.
Herbert stood there for a moment, just watching you before breaking the silence and asking, “What…Are you doing?”
You looked up and a smile spread across your face, “Hey Herbert! Hey Dan, look Herbert’s here!” Your hands still buried in his hair you tugged and tilted his head up and Dan gave a smile of his own, a wave with a call of, “Heyyy-”
You had your hands in Dan’s hair, but that wasn’t the only thing to be found there, several clips and sections of it with hair ties, and God knows what else. Hebert took a tentative step into the room as he said, “Hello. I reiterate, what are you doing?”
You rolled your eyes and with that same grin you said with a shake of your head as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, “What’s it look like? I’m doin’ Dan’s hair, duh.”
“Yeah duh.” Dan snorted and Herbert sighed, hands on his hips. “Right, of course, how foolish of me not to realise.”
He looked at the half crushed and empty cans of Dan’s favourite beer littered about and hoped you both wouldn’t inlist him to untangle that mess before going to bed tonight.
He stepped closer and watched as you were trying to tie a small blue ribbon into one of the few untouched spaces of hair and failed to do so, fingers fumbling far too much to do such a small task. “Where did you even get this stuff?”
“What do you mean?” Dan asked, squinting up at Hebert and he responded, “I mean I’ve never seen either of you wear anything like this, did you buy it just for-” He looked you both over and finished the thought with a gesture of his hand waving over the whole scene, “-this?”
You answer his question, “No we didn’t buy it, we found this stuff.”
“Found?” He asked incredulously, and you fired back, “Yeah Herbie, found. In the cabinet under the sink in the bathroom upstairs.”
He ignored the nickname and said, “I can’t believe I have to detail the reasons to my adult partners why putting things you FOUND into your hair might not be the best idea.”
What you said next had Dan laughing into his current can of beer so hard he almost choked, “That’s rich. Advice on how to care for our bodies from the guy who main lines glow stick juice recreationally.”
Herbert looked less than amused as Dan was still laughing, “They got you there!” Dan said with a point, his other hand still cradling the can.
Before Herbert could begin to say that what he did with the re-agent was for science and research and finding the effects it has on already living persons can help further his work or before he could take offence to you referring to it as “glow stick juice”, you are adding on, “It was all still sealed in the package, okay DAD? That make you feel better?”
The way you said it and the whole scene finally got to him and he had to suppress a laugh before saying, “Fine, fine, so sorry, have fun you two.”
He began to turn to leave you two to your task when you sing-songed out, “We wiiiiillll-”
He figured that was enough until Dan finished your thought, “-need your help to get all this shit out of my hair later.”
Herbert sighed again, shoulders sagging, he knew it.
You both eventually stumbled your way to him, asking for help as you all sat on Dan’s bed, trying to have some care when pulling the mess of hair accessories from his roommate/partner’s hair while you leaned your head sleepily on Herbert’s shoulder. He acted put out and annoyed and yeah sure he was, a little, but he had to admit he likes you both needing him, even if it was for the dumbest reasons.
Another day he came home to find Dan trying to block Herbert’s way into the laundry room. He was leaning against the doorframe, and greeted Herbert who returned it easily, but Dan didn’t move when Herbert came close and attempted to open the door. He was looking up at him as he asked, “Are you going to let me in there, Dan?”
“Oh what do you need the laundry room for?” Dan asked and Herbert squinted at him before looking down at his blood splattered shirt and looking back into his eyes, “Why do you think?”
“Ahhh, c’mon, that?! I mean, that is like, barely a stain, it should come right out-” he licked his thumb and leaned in, wiping his white collared dress shirt and smearing more of the blood onto the shirt and Herbert knew something was up. He used this moment of Dan being distracted to push him out of the way and simultaneously open the door.
He finds you scooping up bubbles with a bucket and dumping them into the sink, pants rolled up to your knees and bubbles just, literally everywhere, clothing damp, your head snapped up and you said with as much casualness as you could muster, “Heyyyyy Herbert, what’s up?”
You and Dan were seated in front of him at the kitchen table Herbert standing in front of you, arms crossed and looking you both over.
He asked what you both were thinking and you and Dan were painfully honest, you wanted to see how much soap it would take to make the washing machine comically blow up ala vintage sitcom scenario.
Curiosity got the better of him and he asked what led to it. You said it was from an old episode of Three’s Company, Herbert shook his head as he said, “How fitting.”
It took over an hour to clean up the laundry room and towards the end of it, during a big bout of silence and steady work that Herbert broke it. He had to know, for scientific reasons he claimed, how much you used to get that reaction.
You beamed and reached over, swiping some bubbles from his cheek as you told him it only took one and a half cups.
Herbert then said before he could stop himself, “Really? I-...I thought it would have been more.” He asked and Dan said, “That is what I thought! I wanted to do two cups right away.”
It turned into a surprisingly fun afternoon.
Herbert was feeling stuck in his work. He’d hit a roadblock that had really stalled him for the past few days and it was endlessly frustrating him, no matter how many ways he attacked it, he just couldn’t come up with a solution. If he didn’t figure it out he was going to drive himself crazy.
You and Dan had tried to help as much as you always did but it just wasn’t working today, so you and Dan broke away to go and make dinner, give Herbert some time alone and also give yourselves a break too. Food might help too, brain fuel and all that.
He was alone for half an hour when he figured it out. No idea why but it just finally made sense and he came upstairs in a rush, to tell you both that he had it and needed your help as soon as possible.
He came into the kitchen to find you and Dan with the radio on, dancing around the kitchen with pots going on the stove top, both still in your scrubs from being in the basement with him. Dan noticed him first, “Oh, he’s outta the basement!”
“Look who decided to join the living! Gonna help with dinner, Herb?” you asked and he said, “Yeah looks like there is a lot of cooking going on." You stuck your tongue out at him and he pressed on. "But no, I figured it out!”
“No shit, show me?” Dan came over and Herbert was holding up some of those notes he brought upstairs, you left them to it, went to fuss with the radio as the song changed to one you didn’t like, looking for a new one you messed with the stations.
You can hear fragments of Herbert and Dan talking until you hear him give it up, “You really figured it out, we have to try this after dinner.”
Well damn, that was some great news.
As you hit a new station and heard the current song in progress it was just too perfect, “Well this is cause for some celebration I think.”
You turned up the radio louder and the song filled the space, Dan recognized it immediately and Herbert looked a little confused by what you meant until you started singing along. “Let’s hear it for the boy! Ah, let’s give the boy a hand! Let’s hear it for my baby-”
Dan’s own smile broke out and he came over to join you, taking your hand and you both singing along impassionedly to the radio, serenading your shared boyfriend who was still holding his notes, not as confused but not surprised.
He leaned against the doorframe as he watched you both, hand in hand, singing along way too enthusiastically, dancing with no discernible rhythm, more just having fun, trying to look as ridiculous as possible, giving it all and throwing yourselves into it.
“Oh, oh, oh, maybe he's no Romeo, but he's my lovin' one man show. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, let's hear it for the boy!”
As that last boy came out you pointed right at Herbert and he couldn’t stop the smile that formed on his face. He loved seeing you both like this honestly, having so much fun, after everything that happened having you both keeping things so light was really nice, helped keep him be a little less serious.
He normally reacted with a “Guy’s. Please. Stop.” but you and Dan being so amped about his break through was sweet.
In a stupid and funny kind of way.
But sweet all the same.
“Let’s give the boy a hand!” Dan was clapping along and you were holding your hands out for Herbert to join. He relented. Herbert threw his notes onto the nearby counter and with a roll of his eyes, a smile and the sigh of the world weary and put upon he took your hand and joined in on the ludacris scene as you and Dan continued to hype him up as the pasta pot on the stove boiled over.
None of you care or hear it over the enthusiastic music and cheers of “Let’s hear it for my baby!”
Life in your house was chaotic but hey the three of you could handle anything.

Hello again! I'm glad to hear my ramblings are welcome, I'll endeavor to keep them up. And no worries about response time, I completely understand the sentiment and would never want to press someone into responding, much less on a time schedule.
I'm glad that you're feeling better, even if it's not perfect! Naps have been both the bane of my existence and the highlight of my day recently, oh so nice and relaxing but God am I tired of being tired, ya know 😅? I was feeling much better, til I got a kidney infection for the first time a few days ago lol. Have to say, 2/10 not the absolute worst but wouldn't recommend.
On the artsy front, wonderful! I had an outline for the project I wanted to make, now all i need to do is order the materials. And I'd love nothing more that to credit you and your lovely art 💜 (but it may be a long while before it's done 😭 sorry I'm a little slow with projects).
Speaking of projects, I absolutely adore little bby Madara and Tobirama, their just so soft and smol and squish and Mada being protective and Tobi just clinging and ahhhh so cute 🥰. And the comic where bickering ends in Tobirama basically /throwing/ himself at Madara is hilariously sweet, I keep chuckling and going aw🥺 at the same time. Also, you've begun doing drawing streams! (or have you streamed before and I just missed it whoops) I do hope you're having fun with them, it's quite enjoyable on my end. I find watching someone draw or paint meditative almost idk.
As for the food side of things, pineapple on pizza is incorrect but I suppose mistakes are human 😞. In my opinion though, your weird food combo doesn't really seem that weird to me either. But I am also the person that swears by avocado mahsed potatoes so maybe I don't have a leg to stand on here lol.
Here's a question for ya, if you would like: If you could have any superpower possible, what one would you pick and why?
Thank you for understanding! ❤️
Oh dear, I hope your kidney is better now? That sounds terrible! I have recently avoided a stay at the hospital, but only just... Hope you didn't have to stay there or if you did, it wasn't for long. I think every chronically ill person can relate to the dislike of hospital stays and visits, even if we all know they are needed sometimes.
I can't wait to see it whenever it's ready! Take your time, I will await the results patiently and keep my fingers crossed that you have fun completing the project 😄 That's all that really matters in art imo: having heaps of fun.
Aww thank you so much! I like that sketch of them too! Need to finish it finally instead of just glancing at it every other day lol. Same goes for that comic... Which you can see another sneak peek out of below, because why not 🙃
Tumblr media
I haven't actually streamed art before, but it's really fun and I'm happy to hear you're enjoying yourself watching them. It is kind of meditative, I suppose... 🤔
In my defence, I haven't had pineapple on pizza in years and I'm not sure I would like it much nowadays. Hmm avocado mash potatoes doesn't sound weird to me tbh. I may actually try it out one day, cause now I'm curious how it would taste...
On the superpower front, I think I will be a bit boring, but I would love to be able to teleport. I have trouble walking, so that would honestly be a life (and time!) saver for sure! How about you? 🧐

I challenge you to pick five Tumblrs in your social circle and tell them something you admire about their blog!
Only 5? I could probably do 500. However, that's determined by what's considered my social circle. I'm often in my head being incredibly social continuously is really a challenge of mine. I'm always actively marching to something, my flame of passion when I have it, I can do some crazy stuff but it diminishes relatively quickly, so I try to cling. But I'll up your thing and list 25 of my fave people. Ask me this same thing in a Month, I'll keep doing 25, until I do all the people. How about that? (If anyone wants to be taken off mention let me know.)
@eligos-venator
- Has one of the most intelligent and sophisticated minds, I've had the pleasure to know. Literally admire all his aesthetics, work, head-cannons, ideas. It's only a benefit that the dude shares some OC characteristics to my own (Winning features). I really enjoyed the short-thread we did. It was incomplete, mainly because of my faults. I want to actually be better to give him a proper delivery and RP worth his time, but he's incredibly worth the investment of eyes.
@mischiefandmystics
- If there was a Mount Rushmoore of writers who kept me in this endeavor, encouraged me. Sun'ra is one of them. His characterization skills, writing, the delivery and how believable his character is, they're masterful acts.
@mishivymendi
- I wouldn't be nearly tamed or as creatively freed if it wasn't for this gem. She broke my shell, I really didn't at a time ever see myself being anything really beyond a smut writer, but Mishi not only saw potential in me, but brought it out. Her stories and world's she brings to life are so majestically colorful.
@asymphonyofash
- My go-to. He's another pillar individual who saw things in me past just the obvious perception, (Probably second longest XIV RPer I know.) Taught me a lot of the lore, I shot him up and he's sort of become my stapled rock. He's right aside Sun'ra met them about the same, both took me under their wing's as I quietly observed and absorbed.
@lavender-hemlock
- We're always up and front with each other, never feeling like I couldn't say anything around, extremely rare to share that these days. Her gif's are legendary, something on my own terms I want to soar in quality. The writing she does is astounding. Character has so many mysterious pages that are quite addictive to want to explore and learn them. (Encore 20 below-cut)
@under-the-blood-moonlight - Her sweetness and artwork and overall is just a friendly presence to be around. I cherish them so much. One I can jive with more darker undertones with. She's one the most hardworking and ambitiously creative people. I'd mail them infinite hugs if could. Thanks for being you! @roxinova - I owe a lot of credit to her. She's constantly OOC and everything was nudging me too be more inclusive to things and involved heavenly. It's rare for me. I'm really horrible about that my autism sets me back socially, I constantly will be drowned by the next day and be reverted back to better off alone, that's my major crux and weakness. But her thoughtfulness, these things, aren't ever foreign to me, I do pay attention probably better than any would ever give me credit. She's a beacon model to have as a friend. @corpse-dancer - Haven't ran into many words with them, but her character, screenshot game, expressiveness, they're all a marvel to constantly see, alongside her attitude and bringing life character. I do think if I were better, we would click quite splendidly. They've recently reminded and motivated me to pick-up my daily-practice, or try too. Keep being a rockstar. @fair-fae - Few who wouldn't know who she is in this community. She's been in my opinion a huge core. I'm certain she's inspired many who weren't even RPers too try it by seeing her at the Quicksands or elsewhere, a tyme ago. Making no exception, I was even one of those. I used to be in QS every-single day and was often doing my shameless stuff. Though her presence first did show me there's a lot more. I admire her in all fields. Also appreciate her adopting me to the FC and her always thinking of others and giving events, or her aesthetics and portrayal, its the epitome of swan elegance. @thorcat - One of my most treasured friends. Been RPing with them for a longtime. There's never anything complicated between us or a rift of drama, it's just let's go and have fun. We really mesh well, I've welcomed nearly ever character and got the privilege to RP with nearly all them. They always open up envelope and help me, settle on back and just laugh. Whether used to be waking up to their characters humping my afk one or use randomly having a hardcore banter between Ufah and Captain and capturing them as a voidal pet. Memories with them isn't something I'd ever want to lose. I love ya! Never stop enjoying life for anything. @lukawarrioroflight - I get in the gutter find myself lacking motivation or writing, discouraged even... But I never have felt, I could ever do any wrong with this person, they bring the light out of me. So no matter what, how many hospital-beds I yearly visit, it's because of this rare nature, that I come back, even if they're the only one's ever to read my stuff. I would do it for them alone. @scholarlybreadbun - I've only been back recently and they've so much warmth. Their presence is the sun of inviting. The couple and posing all the shipping that stuff makes me even melt. I'm not particularly talented in regards to posing couples, but I took notice of them along time ago and set on quietly improving. Really like them for them, wouldn't ever want them to change that. Ideally look forward to be in their orbit longer so I can bask in them. @seascrapes - Been mutual with them for a while. Their aesthetics and character is all S+ level. I appreciate throwing back tagged prompts with them, one of many people I really think would be enjoyable to collab with any other seafarers. The artwork and pieces of Tal Brook, are breathtaking as ever exceptionally too, not to mention. Love your stuff matey, you're a king. @mai-takeda - Is a myth. Her absolutely sheer friendliness and her attitude, are so positive influencing, I was so thrilled to be welcomed with her and boosted by them early on. I couldn't see myself, wanting to exist where they didn't have happiness like the same she always delivers by just doing so many soft-things. Not to mention her writing... She's a whole world to throw yourself gazes
under. @zhauric - It doesn't go far either without the same breath of Mai, I could say about Zhauric. He's someone worthy to look-up and also recognize they're passionate and inviting, hoisting up literally everything. Could easily find any of their characters comrades with my own, or jiving alongside. Not to mention last XIVWrite, they slaughtered it. So enjoyable to read them all. I like how organized their blog is too, motivated me recently to redux my entire thing. @cadrenebula - They have so many diverse characters and their entire roster is vibrant and is imbued with a massive flux of life. They are able to encapsulate so many character's voices and portray them so effectively too, I really admire that greatly. They've made me think bigger and try myself recently at actually undertaking a huge roster of characters too. I've taken many breaks, but I always am so graciously returned often with them close-by and that's so incredibly sacred. I've seen a lot of people get discouraged or quit, leave, departure, etc. But they always seem to have a bigger house then they had last I took a break and I enjoy peaking in. @silvernsteel - Her artist and gif-work are awe-aspiring, there's little unrecognizable by her photo-sets and edits. They helped me even tip-toe into uncharted with giving me the recipes to try incorporating gifs into my arsenal. Plus so delightfully pleasant to actually talk with and just chill. I want nothing less in life, than the beauty they give, to be returned to them for eternity in all their glorious air. If ever needed anything of me, they've got me. @spotofmummery - We talk about passion or friendliness or overall a person to even remotely try to be, I got to include them. Their web-series and writing, screen-work, everything they do is fantastic. And that's furthered back nearly any I've met showcase or immortalize how just genuine of stellar person they are. I wish them always the energy to create and sparks. @snow-covered-moon - They've never been anything less but absolutely a diamond to know. I enjoy their character, their almost always abundant of energy that's very rub inducing. Their WoL character stories, writing, screen-shots, everyday they open up a new pandora box of joy, there's no mistaken love behind their character and that's infectiously easy to also enjoy something when the author does too. Always healthy to be around, I never feel short of vitality when they're close-by. @letheofthelost - Always cheerful or least encapsulates with me, they're a carnival ride. Just pure epic story-telling and engaging equally as passionate, constantly writing characters, not looking for anything outside of RP or anything really just being their selves, they fade all others. I love their presence, them as a person. Enjoy any character they'll ever come and throw under me, or a change of pace. Always feels easily understandable between one another. @crow-iv - Together we're an unfiltered, unstoppable wake of pure passionate writers and art. But I would say they're far ahead of me, in every regard. Already able to portray multiple characters in a scene and do such in-depth thinking, alongside even sketch or draw right afterwards or a scene. They're so talented, huge reason I set-out on giving them a Crew of cast and actual stories to-tell when I'm actually caught up and if they interested and we both have the room, I really think if further myself, I can be better and supply more for them to draw and I want to see them soar. I want to give them all my improvements and effectiveness. @trishelle - They've such a reinforcing personality and aura around them that easily bolsters anything that dares thinking they're about to be depleted so energizing. Aesthetics, characters, all them are so lively that further compliment their own mun's great welcoming presence. Worth hundreds of smiles and stars, keep high. Wish I had more time to dedicate to learning you! But I do notice and appreciate you. @fracturedfantasia - One of my people, I like to retreat and just talk my full
head-cannons with or learn, share insightful and inquisitive thoughts about philosophies and multi-culture things. Or plotting and in-general, they're a well of information and brimming ideas, they are every making of what makes a quality friend. When you can generally be open-about-all that's a real one right there. Their characters and tarot readings, I always would implore if they're offering. Thanks for giving me any-time. You're truly a treasure. @violet-warder - Never have even came to words with them yet unfortunately but didn't mean as a mutual, I haven't admired all their screenies, writing, or the aesthetics they bring of their character. Glamours is real end-game, I like all what you've done and put together. I care strictly about what represent and give, I don't want to see them ever think anyone want's them gone, they are abundantly so talented and possess things only they can deliver. I think recently came back too, and I'm glad to share, hopefully, overtime I can build you better up. Or eventually even talk, but I'm certain you are a busy-body person too, so we're relatable. @layla-grey - I have a lot of underline issues that set me back as a flawed person, but I've never not been anything but someone who's open, it's why I always do include my f-list in anything or etc. I'm not here to present this facade, and really don't care to be an image crafted by another. No one as of recently or now, am I close with as an RP partner or friend with then this stunning masterpiece. I never let-up on story-telling or anything so I can eventually use my Crew or other Characters, to give them anytime a master entertaining day, they push me to not be short-changed. IC and OOC I would devote my full attention too cause they've never shed from me. Didn't ever matter how much silence or anything, they're always around. And don't expect anything out of me or pressure. Just accept me and I equally share that sentiment, I want you to have everything in this world has to offer. ----- This is just a fraction of people, I've paid attention, noticed or know. I've been around in this Community for many years. There's a lot of things I could say about it, more probably then anyone else. But what matters to me, is recognizing the people who are here, that work hard, build others up, support, constantly are a beam. I don't need to interact with everyone, to know when someone is generally out for good. Or they're out for bad I've learned inquisitiveness longtime ago, I had to survive and remain afloat. I just go out and be me, and along the way, I get to find people like these, who help bring out the best me. I am nothing without these people, creators, writers, artist. I'm a terrible friend, horrible person, I don't have the energy to interact NEARLY with as much as I'd like with you all, If I could clone myself, or if things were different, I would drop it all to be in your orbits more if could. But, do know I appreciate you. And even if you ever do depart from this whole community or anything, know that anything you share, or give, that stuff does matter, somewhere, someone was aspired, if nothing else, by me. ONLY you can give the worlds you see and I am thankful. Do love yourself.

Note
I did mean hatter x you as in you(the person that runs this blog) not as in hatter x the reader, sorry for the confusion.
Hatter X Me (Specifically)?
I can see it now...
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
It’s half-past eight in the evening, and I am sitting on one of the black leather sofas in Hatter’s room. I am hyper-aware of the fact that the back of my legs are sticking to said black leather sofa, just as I am hyper-aware of the fact that there is a very intense and partially shirtless man sitting next to me.
I tell myself that this is fine. I do not believe that this is fine, but I tell myself that it is, anyways. He has given me some kind of whiskey, and I take a nervous sip. It’s actually pretty good, and I tell him as much. He says something about it having notes of caramel and I nod, pretending to know what that means.
“What’s your specialty?” Hatter asks. I tell him that my specialty is panicking in stressful situations. He laughs. This is good, I think. I am Succeeding at Conversation.
He moves closer to me. I move closer to the arm of the sofa. I put my drink on the side table and then immediately pick it back up to take another sip.
I have a small crisis when he puts his arm around the back of the sofa and leaves his hand to lazily rest on my shoulder. I have another small crisis when he takes his sunglasses off and I attempt to make eye contact—you know, like a normal person.
“You look nice,” he tells me, the fingers of his opposite hand fussing with the hem of the sundress I have covering my swimsuit. I thank him. I tell him it has pockets. He laughs. I laugh too, but in a way that says ‘I am going to regret every second of this interaction for the rest of my life.’
He looks like he might kiss me. I am. Stressed out about this. I do not know why he would want to kiss me. I ask myself if I want him to kiss me. Myself says “Uh?” and is generally very unhelpful.
Before I can stop myself, I’m asking him what his favorite movie is. This is because I have never been cool about anything in my entire life, and also because I believe that a person’s favorite movie says a lot about who they are. For example, if his favorite movie is Moulin Rouge!, I will take off the sundress with the pockets and let him do whatever he wants to me. If it’s something like Manchester By The Sea, I will immediately leave the room and never talk to him again.
This is a very solid plan, I think.
To my surprise—and intense delight—he ponders the question for a moment before telling me that it would be impossible to choose just one favorite. I ask him for a top five. He tells me it might end up being more like a top seven or eight. I assure him that this is the exact opposite of a problem.
He tells me he likes The Godfather. He likes the Keira Knightly version of Pride and Prejudice. We get into a debate over whether Spirited Away or Howl’s Moving Castle is the best Ghibli movie, and settle on The Cat Returns being criminally underrated.
The topic shifts to television. Then to music. He is very easy to talk to, and the alcohol only makes it easier. I consider the whole ‘kiss’ thing again. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad? He has nice lips...
...And, apparently, I’ve said that last part out loud, because he’s thanking me with a smile and a chuckle. My brain speed runs through all five stages of grief as I ask him if he uses one of those fancy lip scrubs I’ve heard about on Instagram and have never actually known anyone to use in real life. He tells me no, but that he is rather fond of the classic cherry flavor of Chapstick. Katy Perry starts singing “I Kissed a Girl” in my head like it’s 2008 or something, and I do my best to banish her to the shadow realm. It almost works.
It’s time to abort mission. I’ve said too much. My drink is a sad little slurry of mostly-melted ice and a teensy bit of watered-down whiskey, and I am very subtly trying to unstick myself from the sofa. I make an excuse about needing to be up early the next morning, and he seems to accept this, even though we both know that I have absolutely nothing to do tomorrow except sit by the pool with a margarita and contemplate my most-likely-fleeting mortality before the next game.
He’s—oh boy, aw geez, he’s moving in closer. Absolute madman is actually going to try and kiss me, even after I said I thought The Ramones are kind of overrated and I know it hurt him deeply but he acted like it didn’t. Maybe he liked my opinions on Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door enough to overlook that part?
Either way, I decide to hit him with the ol’ “Swerve Into A Hug Maneuver,” which works out splendidly in my favor because:
Being hugged is nice.
Being hugged by a very attractive man who appreciates The Talking Heads is very nice.
My evil little hands have been absolutely desperate to touch his kimono all night and I didn’t know how to ask him without making it weird(er), but now I have a ten-second window of sensory enjoyment as I respectfully but intently hold him to my person.
I do not need to tell you that the kimono is very smooth and warm and I am a better person for having touched it. I also do not need to tell you that he is truly well-versed in the art of embracing, and that his hair smells nice, and that I am very much hoping to be hugged by him again sometime in the near future.
“This was nice,” he tells me as we pull apart. I agree. I am also very thankful that he isn’t upset about the whole not kissing him thing. That is. Well. Maybe another time. Maybe. May. Be.
He walks me to the door. I thank him for his hospitality by saying “Thank you for your hospitality” and he says that I am most welcome by saying “You’re most welcome.”
I decide that this is a very good opportunity to kiss him on the cheek, so I kiss him on the cheek. I do not miss, but I also almost poke him in the eye with my nose, which is not ideal.
His skin is very nice-feeling, so I tell him that. Then I apologize for sounding like a serial killer, because that seems like something a serial killer might say. He tells me not to worry about it. I will worry about it for the next ten thousand years, unfortunately, but he doesn’t need to know that.
He kisses me back, the same way that I kissed him—minus the whole nose thing, of course. It’s nice in the way that kittens are nice, but also nice in the way that the pottery scene from Ghost is nice. I am definitely blushing. He definitely notices.
He tells me that I am adorable. He tells me we should do this again sometime. I have been rendered incapable of speech for the moment, so I just nod. He suggests lunch tomorrow. I nod again.
This is fine. Everything’s fine.
I say “Uh” and then I say “I’ll make us soup.” Soup is good. People like soup. Soup says “I care about you and also please do not judge me too harshly,” which is the exact mood I would like to inspire for our next meeting.
He says that sounds great. If I make eye contact with this man I will burst into flames, and not in a cute/fun/sexy/provocative way. It’ll be in an off-putting way, a way that prevents me from making soup tomorrow and that would just be...Very Not Good. When I promise someone soup, I keep that promise. I am a woman of my word. (In this way, at least.)
He opens the door. I tell him “goodnight” and he tells me “goodnight” back. I exit the room and he watches me walk down the hall towards the elevator. I am very proud of myself for not tripping over my flip-flops until after he has retreated back to his room.
I get back to my room. I get into bed. I regret every awkward thing I said to the man. I regret not asking if I could wear the kimono. I do not regret suggesting he watch Hannibal because it is a very good show and I think he would appreciate its overall aesthetic.
I think about soup recipes until I fall asleep at half-past three in the morning.
This is fine. Everything is fine.

Hello! And welcome to “Festive Fridays with Two Dumb Bitches So Dumb They Can’t Stick to the Schedule They Make for Themselves” featuring me and @odd-birds-and-booksellers We wanted to find a day of the week for December to post our Christmas fics on and decided on Thursdays (this was originally titled ‘Two Dumb Bitches Thursday’ but we are both terrible procrastinators so now we have that fancy new title up there)
Will you get posts on Thursdays? Fridays? Who knows! But we’ve both committed to posting once a week every week of December with a fun festive fic! (Please don’t come to our inboxes and hound us about them, we yell at each other enough as it is and Lay is mean.....)
Anyways this is my first fluffy fic entry of the month and it’s definitely not inspired by real life events. Hope you enjoy! :)
(also this is not my best work because i’m sleep deprived and also my pregnancy brain is not letting me write how i normally do soooo cut me some slack please and thanks)
“Karev!”
Both Jo and Alex turned at the sound of Bailey’s voice behind them, the woman looking expectantly at Alex. Now that he wasn’t a young resident, Bailey rarely evoked a feeling of fear in him but today her stern voice had him racking his brain for anything he’d done wrong recently.
“What can I do for you, Chief?”
“Doctor Peterson retired earlier this year,” Bailey waited for either Jo or Alex to make a connection from her words, but both stared blankly at her instead. “Doctor Peterson used to dress up as Santa every year for the Peds Ward Christmas party. Since he’s no longer available, I need a replacement.”
Jo’s eyes lit up in delight as she turned to Alex who wore an unamused expression, “Absolutely not, I am not putting on that ridiculous costume.”
“Oh c’mon! It’s for sick kids Alex,” Jo settled a hand onto her husband's arm as she batted her eyelashes at him. “It’ll be fun! You should do it!”
Alex looked between his wife and his boss, Jo smiling excitedly at him while Bailey fixed him with a glare. A groan left him as he realized he didn’t have a say in the matter, “Fine I'll do it. But I’m not happy about it.”
Jo let out an excited squeal as Bailey thanked him, walking away with a satisfied smirk. Turning to his giddy wife, Alex wrapped his arm around her waist and leaned down to whisper in her ear, “You better make this worth my damn while.”
“What, do you want me to come and sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what I want for Christmas,” Jo rolled her eyes, but Alex kept his gaze fixed on her. “You’re serious? You really are a pervy old man sometimes I swear.” Alex swatted at Jo’s ass playfully as she walked away from him. If she hadn’t happened to be standing next to him when Bailey asked he wouldn’t have caved so easily. His eyes narrowed at the thought, knowing that at least one of the women had planned that out.
“Stupid freakin’ Santa costume…”
+
There was a reason that he’d avoided the Christmas party for the Peds ward all these years and he finally realized why. Alex was surrounded by dozens of sugar high children who hadn’t seen outside of the hospital walls in weeks. He loved his job and working with kids, but he rarely had to deal with them when they were running around and screaming at the top of their lungs.
“Well you look like you’re having a great time,” Meredith sidled up to Alex, chuckling as she pulled on his fake beard. “The white doesn’t look so bad on you, maybe by next Christmas you won’t even need the fake beard.” “Oh shut up, I’m only here because Jo made me come. And she hasn’t even bothered to show up and make things around here more enjoyable,” Alex grumbled as he swatted away Meredith’s hand. He’d been sitting with kids on his lap for almost an hour and a half now, asking them what they wanted for Christmas and listening to their lists. “I’ve got fifteen minutes left before I can go home and drink beer and I can’t wait.”
“I’ve gotta go find my kids in this madness, but it looks like you have another visitor,” Meredith gestured to the little girl patiently waiting to meet Santa, bright blue eyes staring up at Alex in awe. “Have fun Santa!”
As soon as she was gone, the little girl bounded up to Alex and settled herself onto his lap, a gap toothed grin appearing on her face. Alex recognized her as one of his own patients, five year old Lauren who had a gastrointestinal problem that kept her in the hospital for weeks at a time, “Hi Santa!”
“Hi Lauren,” Alex almost chuckled at Lauren’s wide eyed expression when she realized that ‘Santa’ knew her name. “What do you want for Christmas?”
“I want a Barbie dream house and a pink glitter ballerina Barbie too,” Lauren was full of giggles as she relayed her wish list to Alex. Her expression softened however and she leaned in close to him, whispering her next words. “And I want my tummy to feel all better so I can go home and have a real Christmas. Christmas in the hospital is no fun.” Alex’s heart broke at the little girls words, realizing just how much of a toll being here was taking on such a young girl, “You know what, I think your doctors will do their very best to get you home for Christmas so you can play with all your new Barbies. How does that sound?” Lauren’s face lit up at Alex’s words, her arms wrapping around his neck as she giggled in delight. A string of thank yous left her as she hopped off Alex’s lap and reunited with her mother, who sent an appreciative wave in his direction.
“Well aren’t you the best Santa in the world,” Alex turned at the sound of Jo’s voice, holding back an eye roll as she lifted her camera to snap a photo of him. “See, I told you it wouldn’t be that bad! Your mom is going to love that photo, I hope she puts it on the mantle.” “Did you come here for any reason besides to mock me,” Alex grumbled. “I’m almost done with this and then I’m never doing it again no matter how much you beg.” Alex couldn’t help but smirk at Jo’s amused expression. She looked so happy that he was doing this, like it had made her whole year. If nothing else, Jo’s excitement made the stupid gig worth it.
“Well I came here to tell Santa what I want for Christmas but if he’s too grumpy…,” Alex reached for Jo’s hand, pulling her into his lap as she laughed at his antics.
“Now what do you want for Christmas,” Alex pressed his face into Jo’s neck, more laughter coming from her at the feel of the fake beard against her skin. “I’m sure Santa would be more than happy to oblige.”
“You realize you’re trying to talk dirty to me at a children’s party right,” Alex pinched Jo’s leg at her remark, a squeal leaving her as she jumped. “Okay okay, what I want for Christmas is… a baby.”
“A baby?”
“Yes a baby,” Jo grinned widely, leaning in close to Alex with a twinkle in her eyes. “I want you to knock me up. Preferably not wearing the Santa costume.”
Alex stared dumbly up at his wife for a moment, her grin never fading as she watched him process what she’d said. A baby… Jo wanted to have kids. Kids with him.
“You know there’s easier ways to say that you want to try for a baby,” Alex chuckled as he leaned up to kiss Jo, his fake beard getting in the way of his attempt. “C’mon let’s go home, I finished my duty for the day. Maybe if you’ve make it on the nice list I’ll put in a good word for you with Santa.” A string of giggles left Jo as she watched Alex try and sneak out of the room, instead getting ambushed by almost all of the kids that were running around. After a quick goodbye and a promise to work hard on their wishes, the pair finally made it out of the room, Alex turning to Jo with a grin, “You want one of those? You sure?”
“More than anything. Now kiss me,” Jo pointed upwards to the doorway where a sprig of mistletoe hung. “It’s tradition.”
+
“I can’t believe you volunteered to do this this year,” Meredith stared dumbfoundedly at Alex, who sat in his chair with a smirk peeking through his fake beard. “Seriously, are you feeling okay? You couldn’t stop complaining last year.” “Would you pipe down, it’s different this year,” Alex shrugged, waving at one of the kids that ran by. “I wanted to spread some Christmas cheer to sick kids, is that so wrong?” “Don’t listen to him, he didn’t want some ‘germy mall Santa’ to hold Peyton for photos,” Meredith turned at the sound of Jo’s voice, a grin lighting up her face as she took in the sight of the small baby cradled in the baby sling across Jo’s chest. “Although the peds ward of a hospital can’t be much better.”
“Stop whining and come over here,” Alex held his arms out, expecting Jo to hand the baby to him but instead having her sit across his lap. “Really? You’re gonna sit on my lap again?”
Jo shrugged, pressing a kiss against his cheek as Alex reached up to uncover the baby’s face, “I figured my Christmas wish came true last year, might as well go again.” “Listen I love you but this one barely sleeps through the night as it is,” Alex gestured to Meredith, who was smiling at the happy family with her phone in hand. “Now would you smile so we can have a semi decent first Christmas photo for our daughter.” Jo and Alex both wore bright smiles as they looked at Meredith, the two month old between them not even batting an eyelash as she slept soundly on her mom’s chest. The warm feeling in Jo’s chest almost made her tear up, thinking to just the year before when her husband had begrudgingly put on a Santa costume to please her. This year he had eagerly gone through the motions, excited to create memories with their daughter without a care about all of the patients that came with the deal.
“What’s on your mind? You have that blissed out look on your face,” Alex’s fingers on her cheek snapped Jo out of her daze, her lips coming down to press against his briefly.
“Nothing, just thinking about how lucky I am and how much I love you.” “I love you too, but you can’t just kiss me like that,” Jo’s brows furrowed as she took in Alex’s serious expression. “The kids are watching! What are they gonna think when they see you kissing Santa like that? I’ll get a bunch of angry letters.” “You’re the worst, Karev.”
