WS Chapter 37: Seasons Change
Previous Chapter
Masterpost
So anxiety’s been a real pain lately, but i”m not going to let it stop be from writing. I did get an ao3, though I’m just putting up LoL on there right now.
either way, another hermit meets the wanderers! Reminder that all of this was written at the beginning of s7, so this is before Keralis became stupid rich.
Red belongs to @theguardiansofredland
Ecto belongs to @cooler-cactus-block  (red teach me your waysplz)
Tumblr media
“You keep disrespecting the magic, Grian, some day it’ll come back to haunt you.” Scar hums, still put off by Grian trying to get rid of the crystal he’s been giving him. These are priceless, and yet Grian finds so much joy in tossing them around like trash.
“Sure it will, Scar.” Grian chuckles, kicking the sand of the desert beach Iskall has laid claim to. Grian holds the rowboat over his head, rolling his eyes  but smiling.
“You of all people should know not to challenge magic- you’re a magical creature yourself!” Scar turns around, putting his hands on his hips and jutting out his chin.
“Just get in the boat, Scar. You’ll ‘ave lots of time to berate Grian in there.” Stress points out, tossing her vessel into the water with relaxed ease. Avon sets down the fresh jungle boat carved for her and Ecto. Mumbo plops down his boat, looking at Red.
“Getting in?” He questions. They have just the right people to fill every boat.
“Red doesn’t need the boat.” Ecto chuckles.
“What do you-” Red’s holler cuts Mumbo off as he goes running into the Hermiatic sea, leaping into the warm waters. “Right, fish person.”
Red swims through the water, her streamline from cutting through the sea. Water rolls off her scales and skin, tossles her hair, and clings to her clothes. Welcoming the kipling back home. It’s a welcome return to her natural habitat, with dolphins squeaking and whistling to greet her and a curtain of tropical fish becoming a mosaic around her. But it feels like a hollow return. This isn’t her ocean. When she gets home, will it still look like this? Is it already destroyed by that Blu?
Red rubs her eyes, exhausted from everything that’s been happening. They were attacked, and Red was helpless as her friends were gravely injured. They managed to escape to this world, only to lose each other. The fear of losing Ecto and Avon, even for just a short amount of time is terrifying. What would he do without them now? Without Ecto’s keen observation skills, or Avon’s unrelenting determination.
He grabs hold of his backpack, surfacing quietly and watching the hermits and his friends. He sees Ecto, wounded across the back. He watches Avon’s hand grip her side, covered in bandages. Losing his friends would be just as bad as the knowledge that he may lose his family. His friends are his family. Red’s fingers run along the emerald eyes of the statue Scar gave him. The smooth gold and polished emerald have become a way for Red to calm down by rubbing it. Fred may be creepy, but he’s helped him through a lot.
Red swims up beside Scar and Grian’s boat, poking her head out and kicking her legs to keep up with them. “So where are we going? Do we need food? I’m really good at fishing, I really am.”
“Keralis lives on another shore of the Hermiatic sea, and he definitely should know where Xisuma is.” Grian answers.
“I would love some fish. I didn’t bring any more potatoes.” Scar chimes in, hearing his stomach growling at the mention of food.
“How many people live on this hermiatic sea?” Red questions. She feels like she’s met so many already, are there more out there?”
Grian taps his finger, letting go of his oar. “I think we’re twenty two strong this time around?”
Red’s eyes widen at the thought. So many people, all gathered together. Red isn’t sure she’s ever seen that many people apart from villages. But these guys definitely aren’t village folk. She dives back underwater, zipping ahead and snatching fish with her teeth and claws. She drops her catch off with Scar, leaving the freshly caught cod on his purple robe. She’s like a cat, leaving fishy surprises in all of the boats. Ecto and Avon know to protect themselves from a fish, but Mumbo can only whimper and groan as a scaley salmon is tossed into his lap.
The group of travelers follow the shoreline, watching the beach change to jungle, and jungle to savanna. Acacia trees sparsely cover the rolling, dry grass. But for the wanderers, it leaves a bad taste in their mouths. It reminds them of Blu, the whole reason why they’re here, why they aren’t continuing their journey to Red’s home. Avon tries to feel better by reminding herself that they can at least gather information while they're here. Learn more about who that person was.
“So...who is this person we’re going to see? To show us the way to the world wizard?” Ecto isn’t sure she likes how many people are joining in on this journey. Her fellow wanderers were already a handful to remember and keep track of. Adding in Grian and Scar, previous people she had come to know and trust, was about the most she could handle. But now she has to worry about this Iskall guy, Stress, and the creature they call Mumbo.
“His name is Keralis. He’s a master builder. Honestly sometimes he puts me to shame when it comes to house designs.” Grian states, pulling up to row beside Ecto and Avon.
“We may have locked him up like we did you guys as well.” Scar winces, offering an apologetic smile as everyone glares at him. Still some negative sentiments there. “I mean, when you see the man, you’ll understand why we thought it. He’s like...twenty percent eyeball and thirty percent mouth.”
“There’s his base. Or… at least his starter home.” Iskall points to the hillside near the water. Blue containers stack atop one another, and construction machines sit idle in the turned up dirt. A few villagers are hard at work in the construction zone, though they all stop and stare at the incoming strangers. When Avon draws close, the villagers back away. Even in another world, they still fear her. Even in another world, she’s still a monster. She can never escape it.
“Hello my beautiful friends! Oh, and some new faces!” Keralis leans out a window, waving his hands vigorously. He leans farther so that they can see him more, and loses balance out the window.
The band of hermits and wanderers all wince, the heavy thud of Keralis hitting the ground below the open window. Stress rushes over to help, but Keralis is back on his feet before she can grab his arms. He wipes dirt from his wide eyes and gives the crew a wide smile. “Aww man, I had a record going...three days without an accident.”
“Damn, that’s a pretty good record around here.” Iskall hums.
“Who are these guys? Beyond new friends?” Keralis creeps closer to the wanderers, his curiosity met with the same from Red. The two look at one another, sizing the opposite up before breaking out into giggles. Apparently both deemed the other a worthy friend.
“I’m Red, the tall one is Ecto and the scary one is Avon. Trust me they’re a lot nicer than they look. They’re awesome friends.” Red squeezes her friend’s hand.
“Ah, well welcome, welcome. I hope my friends have been treating you well while you’ve been in our world.” Keralis shakes hands with Red and waves to those that don’t seem interested in interacting physically.
“Oh, ah yeah about that…” Scar grimaces, hoping to pave over such a sensitive topic.
Unfortunately Grian beats him to it. “Scar thought they were aliens too. Locked the wanderers up in Area 77 too.”
Keralis’s eyes and smile freeze, becoming cold as he turns his head from the wanderers to Scar. Keralis’s voice hisses through his teeth, dripping with anger. He still holds a bit of a grudge. “Did he now?”
“Whoa, hey we all cleared it up, right? We’re all friends now.” Scar backs off of Keralis, knowing the man can be particularly vicious if he wants to be. Behind those bug eyes and agape mouth is a killer. He’s a master at Head Hunt.
“Scar let me pet his cats!” Red coos, and luckily for Scar her cheery attitude towards him seems to be enough to quell Keralis’s blade.
“Alright, alright. New world, new leaf.” Keralis pulls off his helmet, tousling his hair free from the yellow safety hat. “What can I do to help you guys? Wanna buy a book?”
“Actually, we were lookin’ fer some info. Do you know where Xisuma is based?” Stress rubs her neck. She actually could use another mending book, but she isn’t carrying the diamonds on this journey.
“You want to see Bee-shwamy? What fore?” Keralis tips his head, sitting on a barrel next to his heavy work machinery. He was just with him the other day.
“He may have information that our friends here need.” Grian fills.
“He’s the smartest guy in the world when it comes to general facts of life. Man’s a wizard for a reason.” Iskall adds. “Sorry Scar...a real wizard.”
Ecto steps forward, bumping a mumbling Scar out of the way. “We were attacked in our own world by these creatures from the nether. They destroyed my home.”
“You mean pigmen?” Keralis frowns, looking over the hillside to see if Porky’s there. He didn’t think pigmen were that organized.
“He wasn’t a pigman.” The winged one, Avon, hisses. “He could talk, and he definitely wasn’t zombified or anything.”
Keralis rubs his chin. He has no clue about anything of that sort. The only person he could think that may know more is either Xisuma...or perhaps Tango.  “That’s definitely some strange news. We should get to see Bee-shwamey to get this sorted out. Follow me!”
Keralis hops off his boxes, waving for the team to trail after him. Across the grasslands, another jungle rises. Trees with high canopies and vibrant leaves brush in the dry savanna wind at the interface between plains and forest. Avon is quick to grab onto both Ecto and Red. She’s not losing them again. If she had a lead, she’d put them on it.
The other hermits stick close as well. All of them have gotten lost in their own jungle, it would be so much worse in a jungle they have no knowledge of. Keralis, however, has no trouble hopping over short oak trees and swinging through the vines. His cheeky grin never falters, constantly wide eyed and taking everything in. Observing every inch of the world around him.
The jungle doesn’t stop, even when construction starts. Vines and trees creep around the white concrete, and pathways arch over the leaves below. The forest is as much a part of the construction as the scaffolding. Just as much a part of the build as the chests and lighting. Somehow, the sleek, futuristic style perfectly blends with the chaotic, ancient patterns of nature. Whoever has built this is in tune with nature.
“Oh hello there friends.” Xisuma waves, tangled up in vines that he has gotten caught in while flying. His pockets are filled with jungle saplings, clumps of dirt falling from the roots and across his mask. He spits out a pebble. “What can I do ya for?”

Change of Address (Sunless Skies drabble)
The Captain takes the Incautious Driver to see their doctor, and admirably restrains herself from punching out their parents. Nameless she/her captain, feels but no romance. Short lil’ thing (Word count: 972) Read on Ao3.
    Change of Address
The Driver’s doctor resides in an elegant town-home in the seemlier part of New Winchester. The only announcement of its business is a quiet silver plaque by the door. It is stately. Discreet. Exclusive.
Nonetheless, the door opens for them at the Driver’s request. The foyer is at once both a cold and cozy affair: it is tiled, black on white on black, lined with polished bronzewood paneling, commendably clean, and occupied by a herd of obscenely-stuffed armchairs crouched along the walls. From nothing, a harried assistant manifests, taking their name, their information, waving the two of them to a seat before promptly dematerializing.
    They sit. They wait.
The quiet settles like a cloak about her, comfortable and easily-borne. It is punctuated only by the Driver’s perpetual fidgeting. They tap their toes. They rap tuneless beats into the chair. They crane their neck every which way, staring into the shadows of the cross beams, as if something unpleasantly parental might come crawling out.
“Haven’t been here in ages,” they say. “Hasn’t changed.”
“Hmm.” She turns just enough to eye their scars, stark red against their jaw. “You come less frequently now?” That might explain quite a bit, actually.
The Driver scoffs. “Mother brought me here incessantly. I sneezed, she brought me here. I stubbed a toe, she brought me here. I slept in that chair,” they stab a finger at the one nearest the stair, “because I coughed in my sleep once, and she wanted me ‘near as possible’ to medical attention should I start to choke.”
She pulls the quiet closer, saying nothing. Her face remains an impassive mask as she watches the words bleed out of them.
“I was already choking.” They deflate with a sigh, curling in on themself. Their voice falls as soft as Avon rain. “Hasn’t changed.”
She waits until it is clear they have nothing more to say. “She wanted to protect you,” she tells them, even though she really hasn’t the first idea what their mother wanted. The Driver doesn’t respond, not at first. The words wallow in the silence a little.
“She wanted to keep me,” they say at length, as if the declaration was previously simmering inside them. “Put me on a shelf, like a thing. A pretty piece of china.” They sit hunched over on the cushioned office chair, mouth pressed into a grim line, stretching at their scars. Their hand raises to scratch at one. “Can’t have any cracks, now, can we?” The glare they’re giving the tile has a heat that the Clockwork Sun couldn’t hope to match.
It occurs to her, then, that she’s never seen the Driver well and proper angry before. Indeed, they seem to only oscillate between the same two moods: inadvisable joy (When everything is going marvellously wrong.) and morose boredom (When everything is not.) Anger is new. Venom is new. The pain is…
Well, she thinks the pain might be very old, in fact. Old and, until now, carefully concealed.
The Driver’s name is called. A door in the lobby swings open, and in steps a stately woman in a fastidious tweed suit. She waves them forward, dour and dead-eyed.
“Well.” The Driver snaps to their feet, their thunderous mood gone as quickly as morning mist. The grin they throw her is cocky and crooked. Her hands itch with the urge to straighten it out. “Back out in a jif. Nothing bad, I bet.”
“I bet,” she echoes, hollow. The Driver and the doctor disappear back through the door, and it’s then she notices the assistant scuttling about the room still. They approach, passing a rickety clipboard into her hands. She expects a bill. She finds -
“Paperwork?” She asks. The sheet is lined with endless boxes and fields and personal information that she’s sure she has no business seeing. “Pardon, paperwork? Do I have the legal authority to fill this, even?”
The assistant doesn’t spare her time to shrug, scuttling on further. “You see anyone else here who can?”
No. No, she does not. Despite the Driver eyeing every shadow like their mother might come striding out, their parents are not here. She feels the absence like a bruise.
So she takes the paperwork and looks it over, commitment to privacy overcome by her insatiable need to know. There is a delightful wealth of information on her equally delightful Driver: their full name, their age (Young, too young, she thinks, though she was younger when she fell into this life. Younger and hungrier, too.), their date of birth (Quickly copied into her own datebook.), some work and health and travel history.
    Their former address of residence.
    She reads it, once.
One eyebrow arches up her forehead.
    She reads it again.
The other eyebrow joins the first.
She’s faintly familiar with it, of course. Ten Sovereigns says that near everyone in New Winchester is. It’s one of the prettiest streets in port, lined with tall, ornate townhouses that, come to think of it, do strike her as looking something like china cabinets.
    My. How glamorous. How proper.
She takes her pen, and draws one smooth stroke through the address. Precise, clean, clinical. There.
She moves back, and makes a second.
    A third. A fourth. A fifth.
She cuts with the pen until the paper is bleeding black with ink. Then she moves down, and primly writes on the line beneath: The Orphean.
The name is stark and right against the paper. She nods, once. Good. Good.
She slips the pen into the clip at the top, and folds her hands upon the completed paperwork. The blacked-out former address is illegible now, but she thinks she can still read the scar of it in the paper. Perhaps she will make a house-call, later.
But not now. Now, she wraps up once again in quiet, she perches on that bloated chair, she considers, hazily, every offhand comment and mention the Driver has made of their family in these past months.
    And she waits.

Vintage Recipe Boxes and Cards
November ushers in a happy season of holiday cooking, inspiring me to focus this month’s featured post on vintage recipe file boxes and cards.
File boxes and index cards are not obsolete, but before the computer age, they played a much larger role in collecting and storing information. Index cards were invented in the 1640s by Carl Linnaeus, the father of modern taxonomy. Originally pieces of regular paper but later made from more durable card stock, index cards proved very useful to many, and became the backbone of the library cataloging system that began in the 19th century. In 1870 Melville Dewey standardized library indexing, and the Dewey Decimal System was used until the 1980s, when information compiled by hand began to give way to indexing software.
Histories of the index card center on its use in gathering and organizing scientific information and library catalogs, with very little, if anything, said about recipe collection and organization, so I’ll simply share what I know.
In the 20th century many homemakers used index cards to store and share favorite recipes. Standard index cards were joined by cards specifically printed for recipes, often bearing the words “From the kitchen of ______, ” with space for the cook to write in her name. Companies in the food industry and agricultural associations often distributed cards with printed recipes utilizing their ingredients, and some homemaking magazines had cut-out sections with recipes cards. These cards were generally saved in file boxes.
Vintage recipe file boxes were usually made from wood or metal, although I’ve occasionally seen plastic examples. The standard index card size was 3x5 inches, but some were 4x6 or 5x7. Larger cards, including ones that folded down to the standard 3x5 size, were popular for longer or more complex recipes.
Tumblr media
Vintage wooden recipe box with rooster design, from an estate sale. Hand-written category tabs organize this recipe collection. This is a very typical file card recipe collection.
Tumblr media
Vintage dovetail oak index file box by GLOBE-WERNICKE.
Tumblr media
Vintage recipe file box made to look like a miniature rolltop desk. This was a popular style.
Tumblr media
I’ve had this wooden recipe file for decades. It was a promotional item from Gold Medal Flour.
Tumblr media
Vintage Ransburg hand-painted recipe file box.
Tumblr media
Vintage red and ivory metal litho “Recipes” file box.
Tumblr media
Vintage yellow and white plastic “Recipes” box.
Ransburg produced hand-painted metal recipe boxes. Most other metal recipe files were decorated with lithography, many by the Ohio Art Company. Founded in 1908 and based in Bryan, Ohio, Ohio Art is still in business, famous for its metal lithography and manufacturing, and also for its toys. Ohio Art made wonderful metal toy dishes and toy pail and shovel sets that delighted generations of children. They later turned to other types of toys, including the Etch A Sketch.
Another name that comes up often when finding vintage metal litho recipe file boxes is J Chein & Company. Founded in New York, J Chein primarily manufactured toys from 1903 through the 1980s. J Chein’s stamped tin litho toys from the 1930s through the 1950s, depicting the circus and amusement park attractions, are especially well-known.
I have also seen examples of metal litho recipes boxes by Syndicate Manufacturing of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and by Stylecraft.
Tumblr media
Isn’t this wonderful? Vintage Stylecraft metal litho red file box. “RECIPES” is spelled out with spice jars.
Tumblr media
A collection of Mid-Century metal litho file boxes, including one with a pretty Florentine scroll design, and two marked “Recipes.”
Tumblr media
Mid-Century Ohio Art metal litho “Recipes” file box, decorated with fruit and kitchen items. In addition to the usual coffee and tea pots and coffee grinders, there are even chafing dishes.
Tumblr media
Vintage Syndicate Manufacturing metal recipe box with a Pennsylvania Dutch folk art-inspired design. This model was often seen in the 1960s and 1970s.
Tumblr media
This vintage metal file box includes a “Recipe Rest” for propping a file card while cooking.
Tumblr media
Vintage J Chein Co recipe file with a green and white tablecloth plaid metal litho bottom and a clear lucite top. In business from 1903 through the 1980s, J Chein & Company was an American toy company, best known for its tin litho toys produced from the 1930s through the 1950s. Some examples of J Chein recipe boxes are marked “J Chen,” which makes me suspect they were made overseas.
Tumblr media
Vintage “flower power” design metal recipe file, marked Syndicate Mfg  Co, Phoenixville Penn. The illustration dates this one to the late 1960s or early 1970s.
Tumblr media
Vintage metal recipe file box, sold by Avon.
Tumblr media
Vintage Ohio Art metal litho recipe box with a plaid base and a solid blue top.
Tumblr media
Vintage metal Ohio Art recipe file, from my personal collection. The Ohio Art Company is famous for its metal litho products, especially kitchen ware and toys.
Tumblr media
Illustration on the top of my vintage Ohio Art recipe box, showing a salad and its ingredients.
Tumblr media
Interior of the vintage Ohio Art recipe file box.
Tumblr media
My other recipe file is this “Americana Stencil Metalware Recipe Box” bought at the local Kmart in the 1980s. The box it came in is marked copyright 1984 The Tin Box Company of America.
Tumblr media
I started my recipe collection when I was growing up, and hand-decorated plain index cards with little drawings.
Tumblr media
As a young adult I began using printed recipe cards, and also exchanged recipes with friends. Plastic sleeves protect the cards.
Tumblr media
Printed recipes from the food industry, given out at grocery stores and county fairs.
Today many cooks keep recipes electronically, yet wood or metal recipe boxes, and the cards and dividers for them, are still sold. I enjoy finding recipes online, but still find it useful and satisfying to keep my favorites on index cards. This low-tech tradition takes up very little space, makes it easy to reference a recipe while cooking, and offers a method of preserving recipes that is not dependent on software or hardware.
It’s easy to start or add to your own collection. You can find many types of new or vintage cards and boxes. I find protective plastic sleeves helpful for keeping my cards clean.
Promotional or branded recipes boxes from companies such as General Mills and Campbell’s Soup have been offered to generations of cooks. I’ve shared a photo of a wooden General Mills box I’ve been using since the 1980s or early 1990s, and they’ve also had metal recipe boxes. Campbell’s Soup has a metal litho file box “starter set” of cards with Campbell’s Soup recipes plus 24 blank cards,  and Coca-Cola has a set of 75 recipe cards with color photos sold in a metal litho box. (I have an older version.) There is also a Jell-O Recipe Collection with a metal box containing 76 cards with Jell-O, Cool Whip, Baker’s, and Jet-Puffed recipes. At the time of this posting all of these sets are available on Amazon, and I’m sure you can find even more.
I wish you the fun and joy of holiday cooking, and hope you’ll have a chance to share or swap a recipe or two along the way!

Horticultural triumph
Everything comes to he who waits, and after 8 years I have managed to get 4 Tulipa sprengeri flowering in our little meadow strips!!  These beautiful species tulips are native to eastern Europe, found growing wild in grassland in countries such as Turkey.  I bought a packet of seed from Avon bulbs 8 years ago, with the details on the packets saying patience was of the essence!  They had first to be sown into a seed tray, then after 3 years of seeing what looks like little blades of grass coming through, sunk into a flowerbed still in the tray, and then after another three years while the leaves thickened a little more each year, they went into their final positions in the meadows.  Two years of nothing and then suddenly last week as I walked past looking at nothing in particular I spotted a golden bud with a hint of red on the edges - now we have four beautiful bright scarlet tulips - I seem to think I planted out about 10 on each side so maybe more will come if not this year then next.
Birdlife is a joy - the blackbird serenades each morning are the best we can remember and there are several pairs nesting around the garden. We have two young greenfinches coming with their parents to the bird table, the starling families have fledged - and boy do we know it, - they are extremely noisy but quite funny.  7 swifts are bombing the garden - the usual 3 pairs and one single - we have put up the most unattractive looking but maybe functional swift nest boxes - maybe the newcomer will find a mate and use one!  The swallow is sitting again but the third is still about - can we somehow ensure that this clutch are safe - it will be hard to monitor.  Warblers are giving us a treat at dawn and dusk and the garden and little woodland are home to whitethroat, blackcap, chiff chaff, garden warbler and willow warbler.  Reed buntings are in evidence on the common and this morning I heard the first (and probably only) turtle dove.
Roe deer are changing colour to that wonderful chestnut colour of summer - there are so many about - the dogs take little notice of them which is great as it means we can get quite close and watch them in detail.
All good in the garden despite the intensity of the work at this time of year.  All the veg are now in their final positions and the winter veg have or are germinating - Cavolo Nero, Purple sprouting and the leeks.  Cucumbers are through so I shall prepare the cold frames as last year to take them.  The summer containers are beginning to look established with the lobelia already flowering and the Wisley Vanilla Nemesia smelling wonderful.
Bertha is now sound again after her period of lameness so training has resumed and as she is no longer in season we can start training with others again.  She is turning into a truly lovely dog - and like Monty Don’s dear old Nigel she enjoys following me round the garden and lies beside the barrow where I am working quite peacefully.  Talking of Nigel, we have found one to help in the garden - he starts this coming Friday and I think will be of the greatest help until we can see if Dan will be fit enough to return to work in the winter.  He is actually helping out at a garden I have planted up recently and is both knowledgeable and hard working.  Particular areas of expertise are vegetables and fruit which will work brilliantly here!  We might even get some half decent potatoes next year if he is still with us. So that is a huge relief!  I have a spring in my step again today as I was beginning to flag a little seeing all the vegetation burgeoning too fast.

Since I came back to London, Kate Bush whispered to my headphones that I have to walk and dance with somebody in the woods. So I have to take my mates to North London to embrace the atmosphere of a legendary music video.
I know it’s time for me to give up Frenchness and to feel the real British music feeling. Listen I was not there for ages not to play hide and seek but just to experiment deeper how the pop music heritage was still alive nowadays – and sometimes in a very unexpected way.
I know it’s time for me to give up …la “francitude” afin d’épouser au mieux l’esprit britannique. Je n’étais pas sur le terrain depuis longtemps que je sentais déjà très profondément l’héritage de la musique pop et même d’une façon très inattendue.
Let’s take Kate Bush for instance: one night, we jump into a venue for a special indie rock party. Between the Arctic Monkeys and Blur, a skinny woman-like figure erupted on stage. With a red-energy move, she asked for a choreographic moment joined by the whole audience, letting the poor Frenchies (that we actually were) a bit astonished.
Years after the charity tribute by Noel Fielding and the dancing reunion birthday in South London, I took my girly gang onto this Bushy adventure. My amazing duet of complementary women: Kelly, expert in fashion always looking for the perfect story and the outstanding outfit, Alice, bright eye able to find the perfect way to freeze the whole universe, bridge the gap between 1973 to 2018. How easy was it to feel the 70’s especially with the steamy light bright red dresses!
Kelly : Red dress by Asos, shoes from H&M, flowers from Claire’s Solène : Red dress by Vero Moda, shoes by Repetto
The most eccentric thing was to learn the non academic dance. It sounds, now, like a tribute to Lindsay Kemp, who inspired the singer so much during David Bowie‘s gig in West London (the kind of gig who revolutionized people’s lives, like the Sex Pistols‘ show in Manchester, ask Joy Division for more details^^) and who taught the singer a new world of expressions through one single word. We tried to be at the level of this rolling routine even if sometimes, the non sportswomen we are have to give up some acrobatic moves. (Maybe our older age than the singer discovered by David Gilmour from the Pink Floyd is the key answer.)
I was even about to forget the high emotional level of the song. Helped by a French teacher friend visiting the city, we tried to explain Emily Brontë’s story and philosophy, even if the artist had been struck by Wuthering Heights – not in paper but via screen –  astonished by the last 5 minutes of a black and white TV show. The whole story in Hampstead Heath, especially dry yellow thanks to scorching summer. Oh I know what you are thinking about. Why didn’t you pick Box Hill? Because, on top of being extremely far away from central London, the director himself was not sure about the location of the shooting… Things will be more accurate next time (Yes There will be next times 😉 )
