You felt your body get numb. You felt like you were gonna fall. You wanted to fall and pretend this was all just a bad dream. Instead, you felt some big, gentle arms putting themselves around you. ‘I know.’ Avocato croaked out. ‘I wish there was something I could do to stop this from happening. I wish there was a way I could rewind time so that you, me and Little Cato could be a family. I wish things could go back to the way they were, but I can’t.’ He held you tighter. ‘I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.’

No, don't apologize. You wanted to tell him that this wasn’t his fault, but all that you could muster out was a loud sob. You wrapped yourself around him and bawled into his chest. You were gonna miss hugging him. You were gonna miss the sound of his heartbeat. You were gonna miss being a part of his life.

‘I love you.’ You sobbed.

Neither of you knew how long you cried and held each other before you needed to reassure each other and that you've come to terms with what was happening. It wasn’t easy, but you both had to accept that this was the end. That's just how it had to be

Taking deep breaths to collect yourself, you looked up at Avocato. ‘Can I kiss you one last time?’.

He smiled. ‘Yeah, baby. You can.’

You moved your hands slowly to his shoulders to pull him close. Closing your eyes, you leaned up to gently kiss him. His lips were soft to the touch. This felt nice. You always loved giving him kisses before bed and sometimes, he’d shower you with kisses when he was in a good mood. You start to pull back, but suddenly felt Avocato grabbing your hips, holding you close and deepening the kiss. You responded by wrapping your arms around his neck and returned the favor. You didn’t want this to end. You wanted to stay like this forever. You two eventually parted and rested your foreheads together, gazing into each other's eyes.

‘I don't wanna say goodbye.’ you spoke up, sniffling your nose

Avocato moved a hand to your face, wiping away a tear from your cheek. ‘It's okay baby. You can let go. I’ll be okay.’

You took a deep breath. 

'Alright.'

Closing your eyes, you released your hold on the Ventrexian. It was only a split second, but when you tried to grab something, all there was was air. Nothing.

LITTLE CATO X MALE! READER || COMFORT

As the man he loved and called father was blasted into space, all Little Cato could do was scream and reach out towards him. His insides were now on his outsides, Avocato's blood was thick and red as it poured from his chest. His now lifeless eyes stared into the deep space abyss, one paw reaching out towards his son. Little Cato tried to grab out for him, screaming as loud as he could, "DAD!", tears streaming down his face. Little Cato had seen much gore in his lifetime, after all his father had worked with the Lord Commander, but this was different.

He just got his father back, and now he was stuck with all these people he didn't know in an unfamiliar ship. Gary, apparently his father's best friend, was holding him back as tears also streamed down his face. Little Cato felt hopeless as he watched Avocato drift away into an empty space, the wall already starting to fix itself from the blast. He fell limp in Gary's arms, covering his face with his paws as he started to sob. He was gone, and the only remains of him was his blood splattered on the floor.

You watched it all happen. You'd stayed on the ship for the mission, but you knew what it was about. Avocato loved his son, and after hearing so much about him, you wanted to be his friend. You only exchanged names before the blast happened, the hole ripped in the wall, and your shipmate lost, dead in space. It happened so fast, but tears started to stream down from your eyes as well. Gary and Avocato saved you and offered you a place on this ship. You'd played cards with them and Avocato told you stories of his son about your age. All those memories drifted away with his dead body. You had fell to the ground, holding on to a beam so that you weren't sucked out the hole as well, Little Cato's screams filling your ears. Painful silence fell upon the ship. You covered your mouth with one hand, looking at the small orange cat alien who had now crumbled to his knees in a sobbing fit. You watched Gary put a gentle, comforting hand on his shoulder, trying to help. "Leave me alone!" He shouted.

All Gary could do was oblige, and the room was left cold and empty, except for the robots fixing the walls. And you. Little Cato hadn't noticed you, he thought everyone left him, but you waited behind. You were alone on this ship as well. No family or siblings or friends. Your home planet was billions of miles away, and your parents.... gone with the whole planet. The Lord Commander turned your home into a battleground, leaving you no choice but to sneak onto the Galaxy One. You knew how he felt. You had cried those same, mourning tears, and felt just as lost as him. But he needed time...

You returned the room later on with a cookie on a plate, slowly making your way to Little Cato. He was now laying on his side on the floor, hugging his small body, and shaking. You didn't even have a chance to sneak up on him before his ear flicked towards you, and he turned his head. "I don't want your stupid offering." He hissed, and laid his head back down. You continued to move closer, and sat down beside him cautiously. Upon closer inspection, you could see the sadness on his face. His fur around his eyes was slicked down from his tears, and his ears flattened on his head. A permanent scowl showed across his face. "What would you like, then?" You tried to ask, hoping you would be able to cheer him up. "I don't know, my dad back maybe? The Lord Commander's head on a stick." He said harshly.

You understood ever word, and all the emotions behind them. You also wanted his head on a stick, after what he turned your beautiful home planet into. But Little Cato shutting you out was not going to help either one of you. "If I could fix it for you, I would." You said in a calming tone. "Everyone hates him here just as much as you do. He's ruining all of our lives with his selfishness." You reached out to Little Cato, placing a warm hand on his shoulder. "The Lord Commander stole from me, too." You opened up first, hoping that it would help him. Little Cato's gaze at you became more... sensitive. He understood your pain, and you understood his. He seemed like he didn't know what to say in this emotional moment, like as if his anger had been controlling his feelings, and his heart didn't know how to speak up.

"I had no idea." He mumbled, and the awkward silence settled in. You couldn't help but feel like you overstepped, trying to share feelings with him, but it instead sounding more like you talking over him. You suddenly didn't know what to say either, scared you pushed him too hard. Little Cato noticed your gaze, staring at the uneaten cookie. "Do you need a hug?" He spoke up. "W-What? I'm supposed to be comforting you!" You said lightheartedly. "It would make me feel better, too." He chuckled.

You two embraced. A warm hug enveloped your body, something you hadn't felt in a while. Little Cato felt the same. His head rested on your shoulder, and he gently rubbed your back to try and make it less awkward. Was it awkward at all? Why did he feel this way around you all of a sudden- like he cared about you. Little Cato didn't get many hugs often either, and the last one killed his father.

Suddenly, you felt him start to shake again, and he sniffles, holding you tighter. This was a very intimate and intense moment. He needed this hug more than you thought. "He loved you, he was always talking about you. He did everything he could to save you." You said softly, making Little Cato break and let out a short cry out in your shoulder. His last words to him were 'I love you, son'.

After a few more moments of you holding him, letting him cry on your shoulder, he lets go. He wipes his tears with his paws, and smiles a little. "You're a really good friend. I... I don't really have any of those." He mutters. Your heart jumped a little at seeing his smile, and you nodded, "Thank you. I'm glad to be able to call you my friend."

Little Cato looks around, and the hole in the ship is now fixed. He takes the cookie from the plate and breaks it in half, offering the other to you. You accepted his offer, and eat the halved cookie. "Are there any video games on this ship?" He asks, eyes sparkling up at you. He was exactly your type of guy. "Hell yeah we do! Come on, you can share a room with me if you want? There's bunk beds, and games, and- I can show you the training room it'll be so awesome! Do you spar? I bet I can take you!"

"Oh you're on!"

And your friendship blossomed. You felt a strong connection between you two after sharing so many feelings, and you wanted to get to know him and be his best friend. He felt just as close to you, and found himself longing for another hug, to be in your arms. He felt... comforted and safe. Maybe you two had a potential to be more than friends?
