Christmas on Holly Lane (2018)
Tumblr media
This is actually from a Canadian channel I’ve never heard of before, but for people in the US, this gives a lot of FreeForm vibes. I loved FreeForm (previously known as ABC Family) back when I had cable, so I was pleasantly surprised by this.
We have Sarah (Sarah Lancaster) as our central character. The house on Holly Lane was built by her grandpa and had been in the family ever since in the small town of Kirkwood Falls. Sarah is awaiting the arrival of her childhood friends Riley (Karen Holness) and Cat (Gina Holden). They come every year to decorate for Christmas. But we quickly find out that every woman is having her own struggles.
Sarah recently discovered her husband Ethan (Giles Panton) is having an affair and left Sarah and their daughter Hannah (Taylor Dianne Robinson) to “get some space.” Sarah hopes their marriage can be salvaged, but Ethan doesn’t seem to feel the same. Sarah is worried about losing the house because she can’t afford to buy Ethan out of his share.
Riley is living in NYC, killing it at her job, but once she takes a step back, she realizes that she actually hates her job and doesn’t know what else she can do. She is also perpetually single because she finds something wrong with everyone.
Cat is a head chef in LA, but she hates her boss. He has a gambling problem that makes it difficult to do her job. She doesn’t have the money to open her own place since the passing of her husband. She is also struggling to raise her daughter Taylor (Ava Telek) who is acting like her overly entitled friends with parents who don’t care.
The three friends hit up the local diner before decorating the house. Things start changing when Riley ends up in the ER with a sprained ankle. Riley and Cat meet people they’ve forgotten since they lived in Kirkwood Falls. Sarah meets Ethan’s girlfriend. Basically shit gets real.
I think this movie did an awesome job at showing the strength and power of female friendship as well as portraying strong, dynamic female leads. There isn’t a large focus on romance for romance sake. My only major complaint is that the soundtrack is not good. Like I know Christmas music is necessary, but it didn’t have to be bad Christmas music. Overall, I give it 3.5 stars.

Kept locked inside the house by her father, 7-year-old Chloe lives in fear and fascination of the outside world, where Abnormals create a constant threat – or so she believes. When a mysterious stranger offers her a glimpse of what’s really happening outside, Chloe soon finds that while the truth isn’t so simple, the danger is very real.
