I beat Digimon Rumble Arena! Again! Second time for this blog specifically, weirdly enough.

I forgot how slow that game is 😭 at least the sequel sped things up a bit, even if they didn't have all the right VAs.

For some reason, the three minigames were a pain to unlock this time. The Digivolve Race literally didn't even show up until the VERY last time I went through the game, with Impmon. I was ready to just not bother with it.

Aaaaand I beat Deltarune Chapter 1 this morning as well! What a good game. Remember how it came out? That was batshit and it was incredible.

Seven games to go, two days to go. Yikes.

Will Auto ever Play Digimon again? Not trying to be rude, just curious

I have to be honest, I lost the hyperfixation thread back when ReArise closed. Which is dumb, let's be real, because it was a gatcha game with very little going on, but I loved it, dammit. I still have the widget on my homescreen so I can keep my lil buddy with me :)

At this point, my original footage of Digimon games is nearly five years old, I think? If I do start playing them for the blog again, I think I'll restart. It's hard to post about in the way that I was doing when you don't actually remember what was happening, and especially since I haven't posted in a couple years like that anyway, so I don't even really remember what had happened in the blogging so far!

I finished blogging DW1, DWDS and Rumble Arena 1 (whyyyyyy did I do that as screenshots?? Though I did love doing the Digimon Emperor stuff, haha.) I finished playing Dawn and Dusk, Rumble Arena 2, Digimon World 2 and 3, Championship, Digital Card Battle, Digimon Racing and Battle Spirit 1 and 2. I actually obtained a Retroid at the end of last year, so I've been able to revisit some of them on my own time. It's been neat!

(Also, I recently got Something Else, which makes recording games a lot easier. I've been meaning to use it in some way for the blog for a while 👀)

In conclusion, non committal hand wave? but probably yes maybe?? sorry that I'm bad at being human hahaha

Huh, look at that! I’m trying to put the entire credits in piece by piece, and look what shows up with perfect timing! His full name is Derek Stephen Prince, but I guess they couldn’t fit it all in. He also voices Demidevimon and you can really tell when you listen to all three, though you can distinguish between them all easily, it’s pretty impressive.

Anyway!

Impmon is fucking awesome! He’s your typical secret character, you gotta do a bit to unlock him and he’s got a little bit of bullshit on his side, but not game-breakingly so. If you can master the Summon shenanigans, you can really wreck someone’s day. Beelzemon is pretty generic, but powerful and very competent.

Oh, see, there’s the regular version! For some reason, I’ve made the regular version the opponent. Also what is Matt wearing on the left there? Is that a canon outfit at all?

Blue Omnimon looks pretty neat! A little monochrome though, there’s sometimes not as many colours on these recolours as the originals. That’s okay though.

So. Digimon World 1 is complete.

What a weird game. Objectively, it’s terrible. Absolutely no mechanic is ever fully explained, Digimon can and will die if you don't do it right, you will only find out that you've messed up when it's too late, several things can be lost forever, it's packed full of glitches, it requires several guides to play effectively, you really have to know what you're doing at all times to succeed, the plot is pretty thin, the translation is shaky at best, you are routinely required to raise a Digimon completely from a Baby stage, it is very possible to lose everything and be almost unable to continue, you are given very little direction in the first place as to where to go, the game outright lies to you at several points, you may be unable to complete a task simply because the RNG doesn't feel like letting you continue, it can be easily accidentally sequence broken, hidden percentages control almost every important aspect of the game, there's nothing stopping you from wandering into high-level areas with your very first Digimon and nothing to tell you that you are in a dangerous area, you have little to no control over the battles, digivolve conditions are extremely strict and there is no way to tell not only how long until a digivolution, but what requirements you have met or how many mistakes you have made.

And it is still absolutely one of my favourites.

I got this game as either the third or fourth for my cool new Playstation when I was a little tiny one, and it was my life’s goal to beat it - until I finally did, sometime in high school. I have since gone on to wreck it multiple times since then, it gives me both feelings of nostalgia and familiarity, but also feelings of accomplishment - it still sits in my brain, labelled as some sort of impossible journey to complete, and every time I do, it just makes me feel like I’ve fulfilled my childhood dreams. I can beat this game, I say to myself. I can do anything I want! Maybe I’ll go touch a spider! Maybe I’ll write a book! Endless possibilities are open to me!

I would love to do a full-on analysis of this game as compared with the first season of the anime, but I’ll wait until that’s finished for the most part until I do. I’d also like to do a comparison between the PAL version and the NTSC version, since I’ve conquered both. There’s only a few differences, but it’s pretty interesting nonetheless. Either way, I’m not completely done with this game forever. For now, though, it’s time to rest.

So what now? Well, there’s still a lot of games for me to play here! The most logical choice would be to go directly to Digimon World 2, but I’ve actually got other plans. Between the big “main” games there are a lot of smaller ones, which I intend to cover as well. So, for the next fair while, the spot of Digimon World 1 will be taken by

Digimon Rumble Arena!
