Round 3, Match 2: Kendal vs. Hand of Malenia
Kendal
Tumblr media
From: Aurora
Wielder: Vash, later Kendal
Kendal was a sword created for Vash (forged by the smith god Tahraim), god of the city that shares his name, from starmetal and a blue gem. Leery of an imminent battle with the storm god, Tynan, Vash sought a sword that would defeat a storm, but instead received from the smith god an ingot of starmetal and a blue gem, as well as advice to “make the materials his own.” In the battle with Tynan, Vash loses an eye and an arm, and then reforms his body to incorporate the materials he was given–the starmetal into an arm, and the blue gem into an eye. This allows him to summon starfire, destroying Tynan’s clouds and winning the battle. Vash then has the smith god forge him a sword of those materials, and he names the sword Kendal, meaning “right hand.” The sword retains the ability to summon starfire. It then falls to the second inhabitant of Vash’s body, the main character of the story, who names himself Kendal after the sword.
Hand of Malenia
Tumblr media
From: Elden Ring
Wielder: Malenia, Blade of Miquella; the player
This katana was built into Malenia’s prosthetic arm and is resistant to rot. The prosthetic symbolizes her many victories in war. Some say that when her weapon is raised up, wings are visible, symbolizing her fierce determination. The player can acquire the blade by drawing it out of her remembrance after her defeat.

Erin, regreting everything: if you have a crush on Kendal, does that mean you won't destroy everything so he lives?
VD: hm, tempting, but nah. I'd rather just [idk whatever alloallos wanna do when crushing], then destroy everything
Erin: Oh FUCK YOU
okay aurora fandom we’ve had “Erin has a one-sided crush on Kendal”, and that’s good stuff I love it
but I think we are ready for the Ultimate Headcanon: “The Void Dragon has a one-sided crush on Kendal”

Round 2, Match 3: Monado vs. Kendal
Monado
Tumblr media
From: Xenoblade Chronicles
Wielder: Shulk
The Monado is a legendary sword that can cut through almost anything, most notably the robots who serve as the main antagonists of the game. Interestingly, it cannot cut through people, merely bouncing off of them. The Monado will puppet the body of anyone who attempts to wield it and will kill them–that is, anyone except for Shulk. Instead, Shulk receives visions of the future from the Monado. These visions are cleverly utilized in the game’s battle system to allow the player to take actions to prevent the negative visions from coming to pass. Furthermore, the Monado can grant other skills, such as a boost to strength or speed. There are many more mysteries to unfold about the Monado, which are one of the main driving forces for the plot of the game.

Something I'm curious about is how much of the plot and world have you planned out in advance, and how much did you have planned when you first started out?
I'm personally trying to start a pretty big writing project, but I keep finding myself thinking "you shouldn't start until you've planned out x and y and z and built the world up enough," but another part of myself is telling me to just start already and go with the flow
I had a lot planned out when I started in earnest, but I've thrown out like 90% of the details beyond the broad shape of the world lore and the concept of the eventual grand finale. The act of writing it has made me a better writer and changed what tropes and concepts I find appealing or interesting to explore. If I'd stuck with my initial roadmap, the story would've been a lot worse. Make the plan because it'll make you better at planning, but don't marry it.
