Okay, now that I’ve finished King’s Rising, I can start posting headcanons more. And one thing that I cannot get out of my head is that Laurent absolutely got some of his crazy ideas from books he read as a little kid. Like — even Damen acknowledges how ridiculous some of Laurent’s plans are. Pretending to be a pet. Pretending to be Jokaste. Pretending to be a cloth merchant and flagging down soldiers. Pulling a goddamn rooftop chase. It’s so?? It’s so wild, because Laurent initially comes off as this cut-throat, manipulative, ice-cold planner, when really it feels like these are just wild situations he kind of happens to get into, and by the grace of god, he somehow manages to crawl out of them. I just have this mental image of little Laurent now, reading stories with action and adventure, but probably living vicariously through them (because it’s his older brother who’s the athletic one, the hero — not him), and he just logs away all these ideas and shenanigans for a rainy day. (Except the rainy day does come, and fuck it, if it works, it works, and here he is dragging Damen into things with him now.) (Also yes, I’m thinking little Laurent might have liked adventure stories as a kid? Maybe that’s part of why he looked up to Auguste so much, and was so admiring? My heart.)
