Attercopus was an ancient arachnid related to spiders, though not technically a true spider. It lived during the middle Devonian period (around 387-382 Mya) and lived on the ancient continent of Laurasia.

Attercopus fimbriunguis was once thought to be the earliest spider known to science, but further studies placed it separate from the true spiders we know today. It belongs to the extinct order Uraraneida which lasted from the mid Devonian (~387 Mya) all the way into the mid Permian (~273 Mya).

The main differences that separate the Uraraneids from true spiders are, most conspicuously, a tail-like structure similar to those possessed by modern whip scorpions, and more importantly, the lack of spinnerets used by most true spiders to build their iconic webs.

Although even without spinnerets, Attercopus was able to produce silk. They wouldn't have been able to make complex webs to catch prey, but they probably used it to protect their eggs

she watches from afar . after all , even in situations like this , she's supposed to keep her distance . however , from what she can see , this is a situation that calls for an exception . she swings herself into the building , remaining out of sight . finally , she drops to the ground and clears her throat , announcing her presence . " need a hand ? "

voice a rich deep blue, it takes them to even spot the other color amongst the discussion. a blink and she would’ve missed it, waving like a child out of frame in a photo. as soon as he’s done talking, red takes over. 

the air shifts around the tail, wind vibrating so subtly in small gusts that to the regular eye mean NOTHING. to liam, they’re small red waves that ripple. crashing lightly against the air, the already pale red fades away. they let the other carry on with the pose and the action strikes— it’s almost peaceful for once. this trick, or what have you, of liam’s is rarely so calm, and they hope to bask in it a little longer. head tilting from side to side, trying to make out some shape or detail in the way the tail moves, she dares not to disturb the calmness that’s lulled over the otherwise overwhelming power. her own voice wouldn’t do anything— it’s not like everybody else, there’s no colors attached to it, and yet she holds off on answering should this be the day that changes. 

it feels long— but it’s maybe a minute at most before a very matter-of-fact, “red.”

That was all it took to bring the last thug down. With a grumble, Lionel rubbed his side where he'd taken a hit from a pipe. Nothing felt broken, but One could never be sure without a visit to the hospital.

Or the Society's medical facility.

"If you're my backup, tell Miguel to please step up the response time in sending you guys out here." He groaned as the portal opened to his left. "Whoever this anomaly is, he's already managed to get the people of this universe's criminal underground on his side."

" the young man exudes; anxieties painted green and orange. puffing out around him like feathers attempting to resist the rain. kabiguru's got his kit of distractions-- sometimes saving a city means peace in the small moments, and though the other shares his fate, it doesn't mean he has to share in his miseries. " 's your's . no take-backs ! help keep your mind off all the rubbish. " try and deny tristan might, kabiguru's long since placed the small rabbit-shaped stress toy in his hands. even behind the mask, the older man is undeniably smiling.

Tristan opens his mouth to begin to give back the gift, to insist he didn’t want to take something so nice from him, he’s stopped before he can start . he closes his lips and looks at it . a rabbit … his favorite animal . surely unintentional on the other’s part, but it brought him undeniable comfort .

he squeezed the toy lightly, and smiled weakly . “ … thank you . it’s perfect . “

“ guys like us … we gotta stick together, right ? make sure neither of us freak out . “

" you know - you might just be a bit 𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑶𝑲𝒀 . " he's patting him on the head with his tail. like taming a rabid dog. there, there-- good red spider.

spooky ? that's a new one. although, arlo reckons the fangs perhaps are a bit on the more frightening side of the spectrum , his incisors more akin to   A  VAMPIRE'S  MAW   than anything resembling a spider. however, he digresses – back to the matter at hand, re: whip - web petting him like he's some sort of undomesticated canine.   ❝  yeah, well, you might just be a bit of a prick, mate, ❞   he grumbles, shuffling a couple steps away from his fellow spidey. and, okay, maybe that was uncalled for but he's only been this…fucking   SPIDER - FREAK   for a couple of months and now he's finding out there are others like him? it's a lot to take in for the lone red spider .

right... getting permission beforehand. because that's totally a spider-man thing to do. what's the phrase? don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness. yeah, seems to be a thing for everyone ( or mostly everyone ) in the spider society. miguel is the same. he hasn't asked anyone for permission in a long, long time. & taking orders from someone...? he doesn't think he'd be able to do it. maybe when he was younger, working in alchemax. that was a long time ago. a different version of himself, it feels like. at least whip-web listens and helps, preventing miguel from getting more and more fed up with this situation. maybe, just maybe, he'll be able to end this job on a good note.

the teeth thing. yeah, totally, the teeth thing! he waits until the anomaly struggles to move; a giant bastard that looks more like a science experiment gone wrong than human. still has a neck, though, so when whip-web pins them with his webbing, miguel dips down on all fours like a wild animal and lunges into the creature, keeping him in place with the strength of his thighs & his claws digging into his arms. mouth opens, fangs bare in a hiss, long and sharp and dripping with paralyzing agent. they sink into the creature's neck, blood oozing from the open wounds. he doesn't swallow it, of course not-- he's not a vampire. seconds later, their target stops moving and goes completely loose like a dead body, head drooping forward and the struggling against the webs stopping. he huffs and stands up, mask materializing back over his face after he wipes the blood from his mouth. "great job. that sounds sarcastic, but it isn't. you ok?"

"are you going to just watch or are you going to help?" if miguel didn't have his mask currently pulled up, the other person would be able to see the distasteful scowl on his mouth, all fangs and anger. the entire area around them is torn to shreds by his claws, by him climbing and jumping around and chasing after the anomaly who keeps escaping from his grasp. he huffs and puffs, head turning towards the other. "if you're not going to help-- then get out of the way."

Wolf just blinked blankly at the Wanted Poster, tilting her head to the side like a curious cat. "Oh! Look at that nice count of coins! I am worth something, now that would be a first time but if lifes gives you such a nice blessing, why not accept it. It kind of feels like a deja vu, not gonna lie not at all, never, but there had never been that much coins put on my head. I sure could feel special about that, yes, this is nice, this makes me feel special."
