i present to you, excerpts from my new one-shot: Well, My (Not-Yet) Boyfriend's In A Band

Aang winced, shielding himself with his drumsticks as he walked into Sokka and Katara’s garage almost a full half-hour later than their agreed-upon rehearsal time, as if the two thin pieces of wood could protect him from the combined side-eye of his friends. Even Toph, who regularly rolled in ages after rehearsal had started with a tea in her hand from Uncle Iroh’s, was shooting him a glare, which is how Aang knew he’d really messed up. He ducked his head into the entranceway, silently cursing himself for being just a bit too tall for the garage doorway.

Katara shifted from her position against the opposing doorframe, where she had been judgmentally leaning as she echoed the look in Toph’s eyes. “Aang…”

He threw up his hands in preemptive defence, words tumbling one after the other from his mouth. “I know! I know, I know I’m late,” he tugged his high-top converse off awkwardly, stashing his skateboard in the usual crevice he leaned it against. “But I swear, it’s for a good reason.”

“It better be,” Toph scoffed. “I blew off homework to come here.”

“Toph, you wouldn't have done the homework either way.”

“I can feel you glaring at me, Zuko.” Toph smirked, then turned back to Aang. “You’ve been rustling around in your pockets for a while now, you sure you’re not stalling for a good reason on why you were late?”

“It is a good reason. Look!” Aang finally managed to tug out the crumpled piece of paper from his cargo pocket, unfurling it for Toph to see.

Silence filled the room, and then, in a tone laced so much with sarcasm that it was hard to tell when the tone stopped and the sarcasm began, Toph said flatly. “Well, it sounds like a piece of paper, but I assume you’re referring to what’s on the paper. Way to taunt a blind girl, Aang.”

“I-I didn’t mean, I-” Aang stuttered awkwardly, his cheeks flushing an embarrassed shade of pink.

“The only problem,” Aang added, “Is that the songs can’t be covers. We have to write something original. The idea of the music festival is to spotlight new young voices in indie rock.”

The others exchanged sidelong glances. “I’m sure that we can write something.” Sokka said with finality. “How hard can it be?”

Hours later, Sokka was sprawled on the couch, head stuffed between the dove grey cushions as he groaned at their utter lack of progress. Katara was perched on the arm of the couch, biting her lip as she tried to run through lyric ideas in her mind. Toph was (very un-subtly) preparing for a nap, curled up in the room’s vintage armchair, while Zuko paced with a hand on his chin, lost in thought.

Unsurprisingly, the five of them had discovered that writing original music does, in fact, require both skill and inspiration, something none of them felt they had at the moment.

“What about a love song?” Zuko suggested.

 “Ick, oogies!” Sokka yelped from his position next to the mini fridge as he pulled out a pair of sodas. He moved as though he was going to throw one to Toph, then thought better of it and just gently placed it next to her as he sat. 

“You have a girlfriend, Sokka.” Zuko pointed out as Sokka settled next to him.

“Aang, this is, this is great!”

“I like it.” Zuko nodded.

“Would someone please put text-to-speech on?”

“Let me read it out loud.” Sokka said, apologetically. “My bad, Toph."

(Benedict enters the halls and heads to class.)

Benedict: I can't stop thinking about what Helen said. How many new students are there and how many will I meet, if any?

(Just then, Benedict bumps into a mysterious lioness who was about two feet taller than him.)

Lioness: Excuse me...

Benedict: Who are you?

Lioness: A very clumsy lady, apparently...

Benedict: I mean your name.

Rachel: My name is Rachel...

Benedict: Oh, Helen was just talking about you.

Rachel: She was?

Benedict: Yeah, she talked about how nice you were.

Rachel: I'd probably be considered a lot nicer if I wasn't an obstacle for others...

Benedict: It's not like you can help being so tall.

Rachel: I suppose you raise a good point.

Benedict: Where are you heading?

Rachel: Music break.

Benedict: Of course, what kind of music do you like to listen to?

Rachel: I like to listen to indie folk, my favorite band is Seafret.

Benedict: Really, I prefer to listen to classical music with my favorite artist being Beethoven, but my Mother likes to listen to Seafret.

Rachel: She does? What's her favorite song?

Benedict: I believe her favorite song is the newest one called Wonderland.

Rachel: My personal favorite song from Seafret is Remind me to forget you...

(Benedict looks at the time and realizes that class will start in six minutes.)

Benedict: Oh, shoot, I need to get to class! See you later, Rachel.

Rachel: See you later...

(Benedict arrives in class with three minutes to spare, he gets out his pencil and paper and sees two new faces when he looks back up.)

Benedict: Oh, you must be more of the new students Helen was talking about.

Kenneth: Who's Helen?

Benedict: She's just an acquaintance of mine.

Simon: Meow?

(Simon points at Benedict's tail.)

Kenneth: I don't know, let me find out.

(Kenneth walks up to Benedict and gently grabs his tail.)

Benedict: Hey, what are you doing!?

Kenneth: Despite being a sheep, your tail is a lot more like my friend, Atlas'(husky).

Benedict: I'm a herdwick sheep, we have long tails!

Simon: Mew mrow, meow.

Benedict: Can you say actual words or can you only make cat noises?

Simon: I can speak, but I prefer not to because I sound too feminine... Anyway, I was just curious on why your tail looks more like a dog's.

Kenneth: Yeah, do you style it or is it a birth defect?

Benedict: I don't know! I was born this way!

Kenneth: How cute. So mad over nothing.

Benedict in thought: (We just meet and I already hate both of you, especially that snarky dog!)

Benedict: Mind telling me your names?

Kenneth and Simon in unison: Huh?

Benedict: It's rude to touch a stranger's tail, especially if they don't even know your name.

Kenneth: I'm Kenneth.

Simon: And I'm Simon.

Kenneth: What's your name?

Benedict: My name is Benedict.

Kenneth: Like the breakfast food?

Benedict: Not like eggs benedict, like the italian monk!

Butterfly teacher: Benedict, please calm down.

Benedict: Sorry, Mrs. Flutterby, I didn't mean to lose my temper...

Mrs. Flutterby: Alright, everybody, class is about to begin, so it's best to save your conversations for later.

Kenneth: Okay, talk to you later Eggs Benedict.

Benedict in thought: (Fuck you, dickhead!)

Benedict: Goodbye, Ken doll.

Kenneth: Ha, that's a good one.

Simon: I know, right?

(Kenneth and Simon sat together in the back of the class.)

Camp Half Blood. First is the cabin leader/oldest unless the oldest of the cabin turns down the leader role. Demigods have become less frequent in recent years but every cabin has at least one occupant besides Hera’s cabin that is a tribute to the goddess.

Zeus: Cody Rhodes.

Zeus’ cabin is pure white, shadows appear to have lighting on them. Cody hates his father and regularly curses him, making a small camp away from a statue of Zeus to be able to sleep.

Hera: None, cabin is nothing more than a tribute. Constantly vandalized until Chiron told everybody to stop.

Poseidon: Roman Reigns, Mia Yim, Ava Grace

Poseidon’s cabin is much like a dock with walls built around it. A large fountain sits in the middle, one of many presents for Roman from his father. A small room appeared when Mia was claimed, to give her privacy. Roman has a trident from his father.

Hades: Malaki Black, Violet Giliath, Paige Bevis, Ruby Riott, Darby Allin, Rosemary.

The Hades Cabin is black with green flames lit on torches, the interior is also black, with beds lining the walls. Coffins used to be there but thrown out. Twins Paige and Ruby line their walls around their bed with band posters. Darby Allin had shelves installed for his skateboards. Malaki and Violet are co-leaders and as such each have private rooms.

Ares: Raul Mendoza, Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde, Elektra Lopez, Raquel Gonzalez, Leon Ruff, Adam Page, Dio Maddin/Mace, Keith Lee, Ember Moon

Ares cabin is painted dark red, the grounds alined with land mines, the cabin members usually like being paid in sharp things in exchange for being told where the mines are. Leon is constantly teased for being so small and skinny but his brothers and sisters defend him. Raul is the cabin leader due to Santos turning it down

Athena: TJ Perkins, Drew Gulak, Dominik Dijakovic/T-Bar, Sami Callihan, Jake Atlas, Mustafa Ali, Kay Lee Ray, Baron Corbin, Xia Li, Boa, Charlotte Flair, Adam Page

A white cabin, the walls are aligned with blue prints and all the beds have a private desk. TJ is in a constant battle over the cabin leadership with Charlotte who has grown selfish and wants to position for nothing more than it’s title.

Demeter: Aliyah, Anna Jay, Evil Uno

Aphrodite: Vanessa Borne, Zelina Vega, Andrade Cien Almas, Angel Garza, Ace Austin, Zelina Vega,

A pink cabin that smells like perfume and hairspray. The sons and daughters of the love goddess are beautiful and could pass as supermodels. Ace has the rare ability of charmspeak, though he never uses it

Apollo: Elias, Crazzy Steve, Trey Miguel, Charly Caruso, Dana Brooke, Adrian Neville/Neville, Humberto Carrillo,

A large cabin, completely gold, causing many headaches if looked at for too long. The children of Apollo are musically and athletically talented. Humberto happens to be the cousin of Andrade, Angel, and Zelina though their mortal side

Artemis: No one, the hunters of Artemis stay there whenever they visit the camp. Silver cabin that glows in moonlight

Hecate: Toni Storm, Bayley, Candice Lerae,

Iris: Mandy Rose, Xia Brookside.

Nemesis: Pete Dunne and Rhea Ripley (twins)

This cabin looks a-lot like a factory, faded bronze and has smoke coming out of the roof twenty four seven. It is normal to see the children of Hephaestus covered in oil, dirt and cuts and bruises. The four occupants each made their bed, Austin’s has a radio stationed to Olympus and Becky’s has a waterbed for example

A simple wooden cabin with the walls taken out to make sure Johnny isn’t planning pranks or worse. A force field is around the cabin to protect him from monsters. A purple sword given to Johnny by his mother hangs on a hook, cursed to cause bad luck to whoever steals it until it is given back to Johnny.

ATLA Indie Band AU

(This is totally self indulgent and close to my heart because this is the one (1) thing I have experience in. Hope you like it!)

Band one: Ease Up Kid!

Toph (18) plays the bass bc ~vibrations~. She plays barefoot and doesn’t wear shoes most of the time anyway. She’s rich and her parents are snobs and she hates it. The reason she play’s bass is because her parents made her learn the cello (she likes the bass better). She’s also a prodigy and one of the best bass players in the state.

Sokka (20) plays lead guitar because he thinks it’s fun while being enough of a challenge for his problem-solving oriented mind. He also loves to noodle when his brain wanders and thinks it’s hilarious that there’s a part of his guitar called a whammy bar. He is also VERY good and sings back up in the band.

Suki (20) is the lead singer. Idk how to elaborate on this other than she would have MONSTROUS stage presence and she’s like good at everything so yes she would be an amazing frontwoman. Her range isn’t huge but she can hit some really low notes in her chest voice and can belt it out with the best of them. Her head voice is also strong, albeit not as much range, but her notes are clear and stable.

Aang (18) is the drummer. This isn’t born out of anger (ha aanger) but more out of energy and being loud and having fun. Just like every other drummer ever he takes his sticks everywhere and drums on eVERYTHING. Aang is a good drummer, he does use an inner ear metronome though.

Katara (19) is an honorary member of the band and she helps with lyrical content as well as song titles and merch design (we all know Sokka is not allowed to name anything). While katara isn’t technically in the band she is an AMAZING clarinet player, which can be heard on some of their tracks.

Band Two: Blood Honey

Azula (19) is lead guitar. She just is, she’s an absolute prodigy and can shred your face off. She’s amazing and she knows it and was classically trained as a kid. Also a backup singer. Sokka is her biggest competition.

Ty Lee (18) is the lead singer. She’s SO charismatic and charming that literally everyone falls in love with her. She’s a soprano voice with a VERY BIG high range, especially past her break and into her head voice. She can also scream. She’s limited in her lower range but still strong. While rival bands her and Suki are not rivals and have a deep mutual respect.

Zuko (20) is the drummer, which, unlike Aang is absolutely born out of anger and frustration. He drums to escape from the world so he practices all the time and in turn becomes VERY GOOD from all his hard work and effort. He also drums on every surface ever made but only around friends and never at home unless he’s with his uncle.

Mai (20) plays bass, but not just any bass, a six-string bass she lovingly calls knives bc her bass solos literally cut into people’s souls. She is extremely good, like crazy talented, and she and Toph ARE rivals but immensely respect each other. When Mai plays she plays with a completely straight face that never cracks and it’s her Signature Thing™️

i’m a firm believe that they’d be an alt indie band, and sometimes do some indie pop.

they’d be called “sozin’s comets”

aang would do vocals, and suki would do backups and occasional duets

katara and suki would both play guitar. this is what their guitars would look like (katara on the left, suki on the right)

on bass, of course is zuko (that’s an amazing thing to imagine) here’s a pic of what his bass would look like

sokka would be drummer and would go absolutely brazy

toph would be on keyboard when it’s needed

a lot of their songs would be kind of angsty. the music doesn’t sound super angsty sometimes, but listen to their lyrics closely & you’ll be in tears. they’d have some more upbeat though, of course

they’d be the definition of “they sound so much better in person.” yes, they’d be great on tracks, but live is just a whole different vibe

they’d be very underground at first and have a decent sized & loyal fan base that comes to all their shows. they’d do shows all around the city in different clubs. every time they played, they’d request pink lights to set a mood✨

sozin’s comets’ rival band would be “the angels”, which includes azula, ty lee, mai, and june. they’d be very punk & badass. we stan girl bands here

sozin’s comets would eventually get their big break after a song got popular on tiktok

they’d get big enough to tour and play at fun festivals, and even get to perform at coachella

zuko would gain a large stan base of middle school simps

What are all the Deities AUs so far? And what are some of your personal headcannons?

Ah, well I’ve never made an official count or list of DEITIES AUs / crossovers before now, I kinda just… make them up as I think of them, or as others’ bring them up??? But of the ones I know that I’ve shared on the blog or elsewhere, or that I’ve mused about myself, I can present the following under the cut, with the ones in bold that have links to their own tags.

Keep in mind that most of these are AUs that I muse about on my own or with friends, and in my personal free time. There are a few that I may hopefully explore for fun (after I resume my main activity with, y'know, the main story >>) and others are small niche AUs that may not be explored in depth, but they’re all fun to think about regardless. Just fair warning to not expect me to spill ALLLLLLLLL the headcanons I have in a row if you ask, I don’t have the stamina for it right now, but I may consider doing an AU ask theme later whenever I do…

[1] DEITIES x Pokemon AU – This AU combines my two loves and can easily be divided into several sub-AUs all its own – Deities as pokemon trainers? Deities as pokemon / pokemon gijinka? Deities as gym leaders? DEITIES but everyone has sacred pokemon forms?? PMD!DEITIES?? THIS ONE IS TRUE AU GOLD THAT NEVER RUNS OUT–

[2] DEITIES x Harry Potter – More specifically, I think of the “Deities at hogwarts” scenario in this AU, so DEITIES cast as students in their respective houses, their best subjects, their sacred animal as their patronus – one time someone asked about their ideal quidditch positions, and well, I tried.

[3] DEITIES x Avatar the Last Airbender – Specifically like, the DEITIES as element-benders or non-benders within the ATLA world. It’s a tough one because certain DEITIES would do well in multiple elements (Set as a lightning(fire)-bender or sand(earth)-bender??), but I try to stick to the ATLA lore and keep to one. No idea who the avatar would be tho…

[4] DEITIES Business AU – Admittedly, this is one that I shared with a friend, I would need to check with her to see if she minded me sharing certain details. But think of the whole pantheon as part of a big company, with the Royal Family as the top “chief officer” positions (CEO, CCO, CFO, COO, etc.), and other staff/interns in said company (plus chairman!Ra).

[5] DEITIES Mafia AU – Or crime syndicate, whichever is the better term?? Just think The Contendings but as a modern struggle between 2 opposing crime families/gangs. And knives and firearms, ofc.

[6] DEITIES Merfolk AU – Self-explanatory. Also technically not far removed from canon; some deities could transform their hybrid features to resemble merfolk if they really wanted to. I just, need to actually draw it out–

[7] Genderbent!DEITIES – Also self-explanatory, and also technically not far removed from canon, since deities can change their gender expression however it suits them. I don’t explore this too deeply though, I just like to imagine what their designs might look like, and how the dynamics in The Contendings might shift with Set and Horus as dueling goddesses, etc.

[8] Modern!DEITIES – Really just any scenario where the DEITIES are living in modern time. I like the version where it’s basically canon DEITIES in the farrrrrrrrrrrrrr future where everyone is at least 5000+ years old, fully adapted to contemporary society and living it up in the 21st century.

[9] DEITIES School/Gakeun/College AUs – Self explanatory, and a riff from Modern!DEITIES. Either the DEITIES cast as students or as teachers/profs/staff, or some combination.

[10] DEITIES Musicians / Band AU – Related to Modern!DEITIES but with all the deities as musicians, specializing in different instruments or vocals! Or alternatively, deities in an INDIE ROCK BAND or something!! Haven’t revisited it in a while though, or settled on which instruments suit them best.

[11] DEITIES Cirque AU – Think “Cirque du Soleil” or any modern circus with the DEITIES as skilled performers with different acts. But I also shared this AU with a friend who I’ll have to double check with.

[12] DEITIES Olympics AU – EVERY OTHER YEAR I wanna draw the deities participating in Summer Games or Winter Games as Olympic athletes in their respective sports and events, and I never have the time. BUT IF I DID!!! YEAH….

[13] DEITIES Vacations – Modern!DEITIES going on destination vacations “because they can” and to bring the whole pantheon together once in a while. Disney/Themeparks was the one someone recently brought up that I had in the back of my mind, but other attractions at applicable as well. I also had Las Vegas, NYC, and Hawaii in mind as well, with plenty of room for other destinations and countries-outside-the-US as well.

[14] DEITIES… futurepunk?? cyberpunk?? – IDK THE CORRECT TERM BUT basically the DEITIES storyline for The Contendings, but instead of Ancient Egypt, it’s “Ancient Egypt” if it had survived several millennia in the future – with modern advancement and technology in place of magic. I have more ideas regard this AU, but in the event someone else is planning to do a similar epic, I’ll keep my details underwraps for a bit until I can explore it myself 

(Additional note: I’m not super invested in -punk AUs but I could acknowledge things like steampunk!DEITIES, dieselpunk!DEITIES, solarpunk!DEITIES, etc.)

[15] DEITIES In-game / Gaming AUs – Basically the DEITIES cast following the mechanics and designs of different game series I like, vicariously or otherwise – including Sonic (sanic!DEITIES and sanic teams), Splatoon (Inkling/Octoling DEITIES), Animal Crossing (DEITIES as animal neighbors), Super Smash Bros (The cast as SSB fighters), Overwatch (the cast maining different heroes) and, most recently, Dragalia Lost (Adventurer!DEITIES who tURN INTO DRAGONS…!).

[16] DEITIES Holiday Designs – Not really an AU, just the DEITIES cast in festive designs for certain holidays on the blog, purely for fun. So far we have Halloween DEITIES and their transformations; Set transformed as one of santa’s reindeer; and Set’s “B-day” for Valentines day (which, I really attribute to the kemetic community for that one, I just participated with Set drawings haha;;)

[17] DEITIES Crossovers – most of the AUs I mentioned are crossover, but here I mean when I or someone else crossover’s our stories or casts for non-canon fun. On my end, so far I’ve drawn Set as a demon from Koolaid’s Living When Dead, and the Set Spawn running into some other smol familiars. Also drawn a few other crossovers with those who drew me amazing giftart in years past.

Carvansérail: Your music blends blues, jazz, folk and rock and roll. What are your main influences?

Victor_I grew up in an artistic family, my mum being a painter and my dad a writer, so I was immersed from an early age into various art forms which I think had a strong impact on my music making. I remember being fascinated as a kid by the various Edward Hopper prints scattered around my house, trying to work out in my head the stories of these mysterious characters and locations. Thinking of it, storytelling was a big part of my upbringing, with my dad inventing stories on the spot for me at bedtime (he is a great storyteller!). Music wise, I spent my teens listening to a lot of traditional and world music (mostly afro-Cuban jazz, instrumental tango music, flamenco, klezmer, Balkan brass band music and African blues and Kora music) and a LOT of 60’s and 70’s rock and fusion-jazz. I also studied Cinema at university in Paris and movies (and their soundtracks) have always been a major source of inspiration for me. From 1990’s thrillers/suspense movies to Spaghetti Westerns, Science fiction and horror movies to the more ‘masterful’ cinematic monuments by directors such as Stanley Kubrick (‘Barry Lyndon’ is probably my favourite movie of all time) or Terrence Malick (‘Badlands’ - what a film!). When it comes to literature, I don’t read a whole lot of fiction (although I like sci-fi and I’m a true fan of Philip K Dick), but I love reading plays (Arthur Miller’s ‘Death Of A Salesman’ is an all time favourite of mine) and most of all, I enjoy reading about History (my two most recent recommendations on that front would be ‘Sapiens’ by Yuval Noah Harari and Richard Holmes’ ‘The Age Of Wonders’).  

C: Could you tell us a bit more about your musical background and experience?

V_I started music from an early age with classical clarinet and I remember loving instrument practice as much as I hated musical theory! I dropped it at age 11 or 12 and a year later I decided I wanted to learn guitar, but by myself this time (without the boring theory lessons). Around the same time, the dad of a childhood friend of mine got us into African drumming (djembe, dun-dun) and my love for more traditional world music really started then. I taught myself guitar for 6 years before learning Flamenco guitar from a great teacher in Paris for a year. I started singing and writing songs around that time (before then I only wrote long instrumental pieces for guitar) and when I was 20, I was lucky to join ATLA music school of Paris for a year, where I trained as a contemporary Jazz singer with the amazing Guillaume Coignard. I moved to London the following year and it took a while but I eventually put together my first band ‘Victor & The Rain Dog’. Starting as a three-piece with bass, drums and electric guitar, the band soon evolved into a five piece with added Cello and Orchestral percussion (vibraphone, timpani). The style was very much indie-rock, with strong ‘Latin’ influences and storytelling was a big part of our live show. We released a 5 track EP (‘Den Of The Dog’ which you can still find online here) before I decided to give the rain dog an early retirement, for personal reasons. I kicked off my solo project Victor Vox a few months later going back to basics with a more acoustic sound (double bass, acoustic guitar and drums). I am extremely lucky to play with two incredible, world-class musicians, Yaron Stavi and Adam Hayes.

C: How did the places where you lived impact your music?

V_I am not so sure. I wouldn’t think my music would be any different had I not left France, but I do find London to be much more conducive to creation. Paris is a very crowded city, flats are usually very small and cramped, streets narrow and buildings high. London in comparison is vast, less densely populated, buildings aren’t as high (which means more sky), parks are immense and plentiful, streets and pavements are wider, flats usually so too, and I generally find it a more peaceful, less aggressive city than its French counterpart. All this makes for a great creative environment, although to be fair, London can be pretty stressful too!

C: You covered the intro song from Jim Jarmush’s movie « Down by Law ». Would you say that beyond storytelling, your music and performance have a cinematic dimension? Is it something you are looking to develop in your musical identity?

V_It certainly is. I am very fond of character-driven songwriting and I like to approach the writing of a song like that of a short story. As I mentioned earlier, cinema is a major source of inspiration for me and some of my songs are actually tributes to my favourite movies, or genres. The idea for the closing track of our upcoming EP, ‘The Snatcher’, came from watching ‘Sugarland Express’ by Steven Spielberg, where a young unstable couple escapes from prison to stop their baby from being sent to a foster home. My song ‘Rosalyn’ is a sort of tribute to my favourite 1990s detective thrillers and ‘Sidewalk Empire’ is my take on the ‘lone wolf with a broken heart’ theme, so dear to American cinema.

C: Your father, Pierre Lemaitre, won in 2013 the prestigious Prix Goncourt for his novel Au Revoir là-haut (« The Great Swindle », translated by Frank Wynne and published by MacLehose Press)... a love of narrative runs in the family! Is there any advice he gave you as an author that you are putting into action as a musician?

V_My dad is very much a believer of the ‘1 percent inspiration, 99 percent perspiration’ motto. I definitely share that with him. 

C: If your music was a novel, what would be its title?

V_I wouldn’t know how to answer that but a good friend of mine (producer JB Pilon, at Buffalo Studios) recently described my sound as “What Jack Kerouac’s book should sound like if they were music”. Although, thinking of it now, as I like to blend different genres in my music, maybe Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’ would be right for it as the novel’s creature is a fabrication made up of different body parts! Not certain it is a very glamorous comparison though. 


C: Any favourite book to share with us?

V_I recently loved ‘The Buried Giant’ by British writer Kazuo Ishiguro. A beautiful fable set in the British dark ages about an elderly couple travelling the country on a hunt for forgotten memories. 


C: Your EP is coming out on vinyl this fall and will be available in a digital version from August 1. How would you describe it?

V_All songs were recording live at Eastcote studios. The idea was to start off with a debut EP that was 100 percent faithful to our live stage sound, so that people seeing us live and purchasing the album would get exactly what they signed up for. I am really happy and proud of the result and the Vinyl is gonna look stunning. I wanted it to look like an old classic Jazz record and I have to say, we pretty much nailed it! And great news is, the vinyls will be ready much earlier than I thought, with a delivery planned on 5th August. So don’t waste time and preorder your copy now!

ATLA aang aged up AU fic. kataang. where she falls first, and he falls harder. also, cmon. i just had to write a new version of the scene where zuko and aang meet.

after aang falls to azula's lightning strike in the caves of the earth kingdom, toph, sokka, and katara are left to pick up the pieces. katara's healing abilities are put to the test in the weeks that follow, but she finds herself seeing aang in a different light as she realizes how much he's endured since emerging from the iceberg only months before. OR: the weeks-long gap between the end of season two and the beginning of season three of ATLA is finally at least partially expanded upon. ALSO OR: a bit of aangst, or kataangst, if you will

"can you see me using everything to hold back?":

Katara's life after saving the world was filled with a whirlwind romance with Fire Lord Zuko that became a loveless, controlling marriage she is no longer happy in. After finding out the extent to which her husband has betrayed her trust, she escapes to find home in the person she has missed most during her time in the Fire Nation. OR: The common Zutara trope of "Zuko helps Katara escape an unhealthy relationship with Aang" is flipped entirely and completely on its head.

"my heart is yours, it’s you that i hold on to":

The war has been ended, Ozai has been rendered helpless, and Zuko has reclaimed the Fire Nation with the promise of peace. Everything that Aang has been working towards since the moment Katara freed him from the iceberg has been done. He's saved the world. Now, all that's left is to confess to his forever girl. OR Aang wakes up the morning after him and his friends saved the entire world, and the first (and only) thing he can think about is Katara. When they get a chance to talk, the two take a walk down memory lane.

"shining down on me":

sokka can't stop thinking about yue. she comes to him in his dreams, and try as he might, he just can't move on. inspired by the song "my love, mine all mine" by mitski

"the avatar's adventures in parenting":

aang being a bad parent is CHARACTER ASSASSINATION and i won't stand for it. i just know that him and katara wouldn't be focused on just passing on bending, but the *teachings* and ideals of both of their tribes to all their children, regardless of bending status. OR, aang and katara become parents and aang finds out that parenting is his proudest achievement, more so than stopping a hundred year war or holding the position of avatar

"i'm trying to tell you something, something that i already said":

katara speaks to each member of the gaang individually and finds out that aang has been head over heels with her for years and no one ever bothered telling her. this takes place after the fire lord is defeated, but in my version, they never kissed in the finale:oo katara is basically dumb in terms of love and so is aang and they are peak miscommunication trope and theres too much zutara content and not enough kataang OR katara interrogates each of her friends (toph, sokka, and zuko) and comes to the conclusion that she has lived for years without the kind of love most people wish for their entire lives

Hellfarts

Junger, frischer Melodic Punkrock direkt aus der Innerschweiz. Kaum einer der drei Jungs war Ende der 80s ein Teenager, doch sie wissen genau wie sich dies angefühlt hätte. Denn sie spielen ihren Punkrock im Skatestyle wie es ihre Vorbilder von damals noch heute tun.

ATLA Indie Band AU (pt.2)

(this part of this AU is about The Gaang’s band. The next part will be about Blood Honey and the next about how the bands interact/romances, so stay tuned. A lot of these things are from my real life, can you guess which ones?)

Ease Up Kid!:

Sokka writes a lot of the band’s lyrical content, though everyone else pitches in with suggestions and line changes as well. Sokka also writes riffs which Toph builds on top of, which Aang adds on to and then, and in turn, Suki scat sings over. This is how most of their songs are made, by someone creating a cool riff/beat and everyone else joining in to jam.

The vibe of their music ranges from bedroom pop to indie rock.

They’ve won four battle of the bands and are really popular in their town and surrounding ones. They also have three EP’s: Honey, Hello Sunshine, and Wide Awake. Their most popular song is Isn’t It Nice and they play it at every show. They gig regularly and have played at a few local festivals.

Before every show, they have a ritual of dancing around and singing off-key to old One Direction songs in the backroom to loosen up their limbs and voices.

Suki wears metal cuffs on both her wrists when playing shows because she was wearing them the first time they won battle of the bands, and they were thus deemed her lucky bracelets. Before she goes on stage Sokka always asks her in a super-serious voice, “wrists?” and she lifts up her arms and jangles them in front of his face.

Sokka plays a “lake placid blue” Fender Vintera '60s Mustang. He lets absolutely no one touch it or tune it for him. Toph plays a Fender American Performer Mustang Bass in seafoam green that she only lets Katara touch (she knows Katara will take the best care of it like she does her clarinet). Aang plays an amber Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece Shell Pack drum set. He can pack and tear down his drum kit in 6 minutes flat. Everyone helps to break down the equipment and they work like a well-oiled machine moving amp’s, wrapping chords, and packing things in Aangs huge van named Appa.

Suki likes to talk to the crowd in between every few songs and is the queen of fan interaction. Sokka jumps all around the stage like an excited puppy and has even been known to roll around the floor on occasion (think Frank Iero from MCR). Toph is mostly known for staying on her side of the stage but has the most epic power stance in the entire country. Aang plays with a smile on his face for the duration of the show and always ends up covered in sweat (he wears a headband to keep it out of his eyes).

Toph has been known to accidentally wack Sokka in the face with the headstock of her bass (“It was an accident I swear!” “How was it an accident Toph you raised the neck of your bass to hit me in the face!”).

Aang breaks at least one pair of sticks every show and no one knows how. 

The worst show they ever played was at a street festival in the summer with no canopy to shield them from the sun. The sound engineer was off to the side of the stage, making it almost impossible to hear Suki and Toph’s bass being way too loud. Sokka’s guitar detuned every five seconds due to the heat and he was forced to tune in between every song. They all had outrageous sunburn afterward and Aang almost passed out from heat exhaustion. The planners of the festival forgot to book a band after them so the Gaang ended up playing for almost five hours on and off.

The best show they ever played was in a hole in the wall venue that was packed to the rafters with fans. The crowd sang all their songs back to them and the whole place had an energy level that could power an entire city.

Katara can often be seen sticking the band’s logo stickers on random objects around the city.

Our music editor sits down with the eclectic group of indie heroes on the eve of their much-awaited sophomore album tour.

this is a piece I wrote in april for Vol 2 of @atlazine, a fashion-themed atla fanzine! It's a fic/art collab with EpicGrapes and it was written as a sort of mock magazine interview. might be the most fun i've ever had writing a fic!
