Excerpt from the Capital News Broadcast - Monuments of the Yemnat Valley:

Two large monuments rise above the Yemnat Plateua of Athenos, comemorating the coming of two beings who changed our world and lives forever.

The first is a great marble statue depicting the Primarch Perturabo. Sitting a sizeable three stories tall, it comemorates the demigod of a man who revolutionized almost all aspects of Athenian life. It sits above the crash site where his capsule was first found by his now-adoptive father Pelligro Yemnat (patriarch of the Yemnat family Plantation: the region's foremost source of wool and mutton) and his adoptive brother Crucius.

About three miles away sits the second monument. It consists of three black obelisks surrounding an elaborate coffin known as a stasis crypt. This elegant and macabre unit held and preserved the body of Princess Nehetari of the Szarekhan Dynasty, which also crash landed on Athenian soil only 23 years after the primarch. While not built by the Athenian people, they revere it all the same, for the princess's coming lead to the world-altering alliance between the Athenian Empire and the Szarekhan Dynasty of the Necrons.

However, following the betrothal of Mehlrose Nehetari to Lord Perturabo of the Reforged Iron Warriors, it appears as if some efforts have been made to link the two monuments. On multiple occassions, the princess herself has been spotted placing floating black stones to form a path between them. Closer inspection has revealed inscriptions on each; some in her native tongue, Necrontyr, and some in the form of pictographs depicting great battles or important events. When questioned, this is what she had to say:

"A strong Tether is not built from a single day, but from many. Countless moments, great and small, orderly and chaotic, all lined up next to each other to form a pathway between two souls."

The princess told reporters that all are invited to come view the path and even walk along its length. Though care is strongly advised, as the elegant guardian canopteks are not just for show, and they will not tolerate disrespectful behavior.

Michaelangelo and Vitrian Athenos were twins of noble birth on Umb'Ranox. Though often arrogant even after their induction to the Chapter, their talent for leadership and excellence in cloase quarters engagements has seen them rise through the ranks of the chapter.

Although unorthodox, they both occupy the position of Captain of the 2nd Company "Consecrators". Unfortunately, the twins carry a reputation within and without the Chapter of being very unforgiving, whether it be to their brothers who serve underneath them, or to their enemies who stand in their way.

I just feel the great need to ramble about my ongoing, on-again, off-again original story that I may never finish.

Putting under a cut due to length.

So, randomly watching something the Youtube algo dug up (which doesn't happen super often, but if I'm bored, I'll humor it), and it's this video. Admittedly, I clicked it because, for anyone that's been around a while, I've been completely stalled out on my story, "[ null ] VOID". The story is semi-futuristic (in the same way Detroit: Become Human is futuristic -- near-future), and while cosmic horror isn't the main theme, there is definitely an undercurrent there (it's genuinely not a horror story, though). Watching the video, they focus on the topic of "cosmic bliss" and how that is, actually, more terrifying than cosmic horror -- the accepting, the absence of fear is the alien terrifying thing. There's also mention of the concept of (and I'm paraphrasing), "if you don't have any care or attachment, then... why are you still here? Existing?"

And I did the Leonardo DiCaprio meme point.

Because that's exactly the thing with this guy.

Athenos is a bio-android that gains sentience, but that's actually not the gimmick for him. He gains sentience shortly before the lab he's at, for mysterious circumstances, sort of... fractures into a different reality. Just that experience on its own would make probably for an interesting horror game, but anyway... Things go to shit, mutant abominations stalk the halls, all that, and he ends up entering a bargain with an entity that, throughout the story, is only referred to as "Him".

His grand issue, via that bargain, ultimately ends up being that he finds himself falling into subscribing to true blue nihilism. Nothing matters. All of these miserable creatures are insignificant and awful. He does not relate to his fellow androids, and especially not to their plight to being recognized as alive. He doesn't relate to humans, because he isn't human. He now knows things he shouldn't thanks to Him. He feels that humans are awful and undeserving. And thus, he feels that ceasing to be is a perfectly acceptable fate. Why continue going through the monotony of these daily processes? If living means doing this meaningless task of whatever it means to be alive, then living is meaningless. And so he seeks that dissolution, despite not being human. (Sort of something I intended to thread was that item alongside the general conversation of "if I am a machine, can I go mad, or am I simply malfunctioning?", and "if I am a machine, was I alive? Or simply 'On'?")

That's where the other character, Mari, comes into play.

He's an agent in something of a paranormal agency that deals with threats to this reality and humanity. Despite the job, he's honestly a very golden-retriever-esque guy. He's nice, he wants to help, and he's just happy to be here.

And he's ignorant and naive. He's very stubborn about keeping his rose-tinted glasses on his face, and has a tendency to kind of ignore the reality of things. If you're familiar with Mouthwashing, he... honestly kind of is the "Curly". If his best friend raped someone, he'd... probably handle the situation extremely poorly, trying to "make everything work for everyone".

Aaaaand... he's the one that encounters Athenos. And it's that "I have to blindly see the good in everyone" quality that leads him to refuse to kill Athenos, and thus sets them up as the duo of the story, as he becomes the handler of the cosmically-altered android.

The problem with the story has always been that I have a plan, an opening, and an ending, but no middle. The idea was that, over time, the two would learn and grow from each other in their own ways. And yet, at the same time, there be this little element in the end, where they've also, just a little bit, swapped.

Faced with The Antagonist, who comes as a shepherd offering salvation to his flock, Mari questions whether stopping him is the right call. If humans are as dangerous and wretched as Athenos has proposed, then... maybe this is the solution? Maybe they DO need guidance from something More. Maybe this thing isn't malicious? What's tied to Athenos isn't, so maybe this Shepherd isn't either? And, in turn, Athenos, now having something to care about, and having a purpose and a desire once more to interact with humanity and other androids, very much is like, "No, going quietly into the night will not fix everything." (He'd be a little more condescending about it, because even with growth, Athenos... kind of remains a little bit of an ass, he just becomes an ass that means well instead of an ass that doesn't care.)

There's other stuff, but that's the basic idea of things. I hope to go back to it some day, when my brain figures out how to get from point A to point C.

- The collars on Jack and Timothy are bulky because they are designed for lower workers, the collars on upper employees are much sleeker - Basically Jack's life is 40% better than canon, Rhys' life is 60% worse than canon, Tim's life is still sheer misery - Jack is like really tired, he has to work really hard, but he lives an almost happy life - The former owner of Atlas planned to make Rhys a trademark, pretty face on posters and stuff - Vaughn is a Rhys doppelganger, but he is in the process of reverting back to his old appearance (Rhys is not going to be happy about it, leg-lengthening surgery is expensive) - Rhys didn't volunteer for a prosthetic arm, he was a forced walking AD - Jack actually treats Tim like a brother in a way - Angel's almost okay, she's permanently connected to a lifesupport system - Rhys really liked Angel, and he wasn't lying when he promised Jack he'd help them, he just didn't say they'd be caged for the rest of their lives - Tim is much freer to do things because Jack doesn't have time to keep track of him - Vasquez was Rhys' personal assistant, people think he was the one who set up Rhys' death (partially true) - Rhys wasn't trying to kill Jack, but he's very wary of him - At the end of the story, when the Athenos is destroyed, Rhys commits ???digital suicide??, but technically he can be restored - Hyperion eventually consumes Atlas, Jack becomes Handsome Jack in any universe
