I feel so sorry for the Twitter users who have just emigrated to Tumblr because when I saw the first Goncharov posts, I was confused for a few seconds before I checked the tag and nodded when I saw #unreality. I was “Ah yes, people are inventing stuff.” because all of Tumblr going insane on one specific thing is something I’m used to.

But I don’t think people who aren’t used to this strange environment are in any way prepared for that kind of craziness and oh boy, what a way to be introduced to Tumblr.

I already don’t like All Might bashing but nothing annoys me more than the specific brand of All Might bashing where All Might furiously discriminates against quirkless people.

When All Might tells Izuku that he doesn’t think someone without a quirk can be a hero? Most of his answer is about himself. He is the quirkless kid who became a hero and he is now horribly alone, depressed, has PTSD, too many organs lost in action and a husk of his former self while the pressure of being the number 1 hero is grinding down on him as he is losing more and more time to use his quirk every day while being extremely aware that criminality staying as low as it is fully depends on him being the number 1 hero.

When Izuku asked him if he could be a hero, All Might probably had a magnificent flashback to his whole life and couldn’t, in good conscience, tell someone so similar to him to follow the same path because of all the hardship he went through.

Izuku being the only one to help during the second Sludge villain attack didn’t make him realize that “Even someone without a quirk has the potential to be a hero!” but it made him remember what heroism really is about.

Loid is such a funny character, the first time you are introduced to him he seems like a cool, suave, charismatic but also ruthless man who focuses only on his mission and the embodiment of every spy character troupe there is and he is! But also few chapters in and he's like "My daughter/wife doesn't like me 🥺🥺🥺🥺 i am a failure of a spy 😩😩😭😭😭😭" at like every minor inconvenience

oh everything from season 4 onward I think. all of that was so bad lmao. but if I have to be specific, I hate SO much how they did kira and just. left her hanging. she's still in the desert, trying to get her kitsune powers back in order. powers that we STILL DON'T FULLY KNOW how they got like that!! like okay the dread doctor hoes did some unethical science on her, we saw it, we were there - but like what happened what did the unethical science do.

not even JRR Tolkien, who famously developed the concept of the Secondary World and firmly believed that no trace of the Real World should be evoked in the fictional world, was able to remove potatoes from his literature. this is a man who developed whole languages and mythologies for his literary world, who justified its existence in English as a translation* simply because he was so miffed he couldn't get away with making the story fully alien to the real world. and not even he, in extremis, was so cruel as to deny his characters the heavenly potato. could not even conceive a universe devoid of the potato. such is its impact. everyone please take a moment to say thank you to South Americans for developing and cultivating one of earth's finest vegetables. the potato IS all that. literally world-changing food. bless.

Scott McCall and the Hero's Journey

Athenadark is a fucking liar who tries to use her English degree to lend credibility to her blatant bullshit but apparently also counts on her audience not having been to their 9th grade English because she just said that Scott McCall doesn't fit the Hero's Journey and therefore isn't a hero

Now. Ignoring that the Hero's Journey is a narrative structure and not a prerequisite to being a hero, this is also ridiculously false, considering one of the main points of the Monomyth is its universal applicability.

So with the enthusiasm of an 8th grader who is forced to scribble this out on a worksheet while the teacher works on her lesson plan for next week, I will now take about 30 minutes to show you how easy it was to fit Scott into the Monomyth:

Call to Adventure: Scott gets bitten and becomes part of a new, hidden world.

Refusal of the Call: Scott doesn't want to be a werewolf and searches for a cure

Supernatural Aid/Appearance of the Mentor: Derek tells Scott that the only way to cure himself is to kill his Alpha

Crossing the First Threshold: Scott experiences his first Full Moon and begins to learn to control his powers

The Belly of the Whale: Several things can fit here. Scott learning to shift at will, Allison learning about the supernatural and therefore ceasing to be Scott's potential for a normal life

Road of Trials: basically all of season 2 and everything Derek did trying to build his pack

Meeting with the Godess: "Be Your Own Anchor"

Temptation: Scott's fear of losing control or giving in to the wolf is one of his main internal conflicts

Reconciliation with the Father: Scott coming to terms with being a werewolf permanently and beginning his journey to becoming a True Alpha

Apostasis: Physical Death? Which one LMAOOOOO but also it's the season 3A sacrifice showing the lengths Scott is willing to go to to protect the citizens of Beacon Hills from harm by the supernatural

Refusal of Return: making his first Beta. Admittedly not his choice but still an act which locks him into the supernatural world

Magic Flight: Rescuing Derek from the Calaveras

Rescue from Without: Melissa being a tether to the reality for Scott is a theme throughout later seasons. Also it is Melissa's CPR that saves him from a supernatural death.

Crossing the Return Threshold: in a symbolic sense, becoming Liam's mentor and teaching him control shows he is ready to share the wisdom of his experience

Master of Two Worlds: Scott being successful both in school and supernatural life.

Freedom to Live: Scott goes off to college.

Minerva Dim is a liar and even a cursory glance at her attempts at meta show an extreme bias towards the White characters, which at best is an unconscious bit of unlearned racism from being educated on the Western Canon to see the archetypal hero as a White Man
