â ď¸IMPORTANT OUT OF CHARACTER NOTESâ ď¸
The Holy Moly AU is a very serious AU, involving themes such as drug use/abuse, addiction, and potential sewer slide thoughts/s3lf h4rm. This AU is not for the faint of heart, and I hope you understand how serious it is. Please proceed with caution.
â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘Â°â˘
"When Athena is sober, she'll talk like this."
"When she is drugged, she'll talk like this."
'Athena talks to Moly like this when she's communicating in her thoughts.'
{moly will speak like this.}
(OOC: This is me out of character!)
(This is an AU where Athena turns to Holy Moly as a solution to her problems and her trauma. Yes I'm absolutely talking about the root used against Circe in the Circe Saga. I'm still fleshing this AU out properly, but we're getting somewhere!)
(A quick explanation: Moly is the representation of the drug, a hallucination Athena often sees, moreso when high. Moly looks like a twisted version of my Pallas design.)

Head Games, Law Games (2467 words) by thesavagesabretooth
Summary: Phoenix Wright thought that the strange game between him and Kristoph Gavin had ended for good when he put his lover and rival in jail for murder. But when Miles Edgeworth agrees to have the killer mentally evaluated for suitability to start working in the courts from behind bars, Phoenix has to find out for himself just what's going on in Kristoph's head.
-
August 23, 2028â 1:15 pm
"How delightful to see you, Nick. I didn't expect you to visit today. Or ever again, admittedly." Behind the bars of his pleasantly appointed cell, Kristoph Gavin smiled beatifically outward.
Phoenix scowled, and fought the urge to recoil physically. Instead, he sat down low on the hard visitation chair just out of reach of the bars. He sat slumped with his elbows on his knees, and he carefully unbuttoned the last button of his blue suit jacket to avoid it popping off.
"Yeah, well, life's full of crazy surprises, isn't it, Kris?" he scoffed. He hadn't been planning to visit him ever again. He hadn't seen him in almost two yearsâ not since the visit on behalf of Vera Misham. He'd been happy enough just to let him rot away in prison, and let the memory of that pretty smile fade further and further into the dark. But circumstances had changed.
"For better or worse, I've noticed that it is." Kristoph's posture changed to mirror his own, leaning forward toward him. "So what brings you to my humble 'office'?"
"Hah!" Phoenix shook his head. "Well, I heard you met my newest protege the other day, isn't that right?"
"Mr. Athena Cykes, yes?" Kristoph leaned on his hands, smiling like a cat. "A very charming young lady. And very talented. Yes, I met her and I have to say I was quite impressed. I can see why Miles sent her particularly."
Nick grunted. He and Miles had had a fight about it, when he heard that Miles was actually considering allowing Kristoph to become a prosecutor and handle cases from behind bars like he'd done with Simon Blackquill.
The difference of course was that Simon Blackquill had been innocent, and Kristoph Gavin was very much guilty. He had to be guilty. Even if it didn't make much sense.
At least Edgeworth had the sense to be hesitant about it, too.Â
'I don't think it's a good idea either, Phoenix. But Lana made her case very eloquently. I told her the only circumstances I'd allow it under were if Ms. Cykes gives him a good evaluation, and the living relatives of his victims agree to it.'
"Yeah, Athena's a bright kid," Phoenix agreed, shaking off the brooding reverie. "Usually I trust her judgment pretty implicitly."
"Usually?" Kristoph asked, cocking his head.
"Yeah. Usually." Phoenix rubbed the back of his neck. The problem in this case was that Athena was not giving him the answer that he wanted to hear. "Edgeworth showed me the tape of your interview."
"I see. That's fine. I already knew that the contents of that interview wouldn't remain private."
Phoenix's fingers itched. There was something about talking to Kristoph that always made him start to want a drink and a smoke. Even now, after he was supposed to be sober.
"Yeah," he nodded, and smirked at Kristoph. "It's going around the room like your brother at a party, Kris."
Kristoph rolled his eyes. "Very funny, Nick. I imagine you have thoughts about it."
"Yeah, I'll admit. There was one part that stood out to me."
-
The camera recorded the session from a high angle in black and whiteâ the security camera mounted in the corner of the hall. It framed Athena Cykes from behind, looking inward, and captured Kristoph Gavin's smiling but troubled face from where he sat behind the bars.Â
The conversation had been going on for more than 20 minutes when Kristoph had seemingly decided to tell Athena a secret he'd kept from everyone else.
His motive.
"You work with Mr. Wright," Kristoph said, "So you know that he has a daughter. Almost grown now. An adorable, bright little girl with a big smile. Zak Gramarye's daughter."
Athena nodded with a slight widening of her eyes as she looked between Kristoph and her screen on the mood matrix, blurry and unreadable in the videoÂ
âTrucy. I know her really wellâŚsheâs been a great friend to me since Iâve started working for her agencyâŚâÂ
"I can imagine," he said, with a little smile. "I watched her grow up, you know. Being so close with Phoenix. I saw her often."
âThat makes senseâŚheâd been raising her since that first trial, after all. It makes sense youâd see her growâŚâ She tilted her head. âyou came to care about her, I imagine?âÂ
"I'd be some kind of monster, if I didn't." He chuckled. "She's very charming. You knowâ on the day I spoke to Zak Gramarye with the hopes to represent him he said something to me. He said 'today I am praying my daughter won't grow up without her father'."
â....â Athenaâs fingers hovered over the screen. âHe said that, huh? But in the end she still did, didnât she?âÂ
Kristoph's fingers were laced very, very tightly together. He smiled, brightly, almost like an angel.
"She did. And do you know what he said to Phoenix Wright in that fateful conversation, Miss Athena Cykes? He told him that he had always intended to disappear. That abandoning his daughter had always been the plan. And that he would do the same that night, without a word."Â
He put his hands on his knees. "I consider it a personal moral failing of a dear friend that Mr. Phoenix Wright was going to just let him walk out of that room."
-
Phoenix felt a flush of anger and revulsion remembering the moment in the video, and he was sure Kristoph noticed it on his face. The killerâ his old friendâ leaned forward toward him.
"My motivation, you mean. You wonder if I'm telling the truth. Since every time you've asked before I've said it was random, and evil. You've suspected, I think, that it was out of malice for you. To frame you, specifically."
"I've suspected it, yeah," Phoenix admitted. "I couldn't figure out what other motive you might have had. After all, the Gramarye case didn't ruin your career. Why kill him?"
"Why indeed," Kristoph drawled blandly. Phoenix watched him lace his fingers together tightly, like he had in the video. "You've thought it was my final move in our lovely seven year head game. My checkmate."
"It was one theory."Â
It was the only theory he had. Nothing else made sense. Why would Kristoph kill the man and try to frame him except as the capstone ofâ as he had put itâ their seven year head game. A seven year relationship of entwined friendship, suspicion, sex and romance that Nick couldn't say he had any less a part in playing that Kristoph. After all, Nick had been the one to enter the relationship with the intention of trapping Kris and exposing if he really had, or hadn't been responsible for his disbarment.
"I'm not flattered," Kristoph drawled. "What a poor checkmate. What a terrible game that ends up with the final move flinging the pieces off the table instead of putting them in my lap."
Nick felt a flush crawl across his face as Kristoph sneered at him, and called back to their silly dominance game of who would be sitting in whom's lap.
He rubbed his neck again and looked away. "So is it true, then? What you said to Athena?"
Kris got up from his high backed chair, and strode up close to the bars of his cell, lacing his fingers around them and leaning toward Phoenix.
"What does Ms. Cykes say about it?"
"She says it's consistent with your emotional responses and psychological profile," he admitted grudgingly. "And that she thinks you're telling the truth."
"But you're not so sure." Kristoph's icy blue gaze bored into him like a laser beam.
He looked away again. "I'm not. I trust Athena, but if something like that was your motivationâ why try to frame me?"
Kristoph made a choked noise so loud it drew Phoenix's gaze right back to him, and he watched as the usually composed man's eye twitched and he grabbed the cell bars hard, as if to shake them, his shoulders straining.
"I never tried to frame you, you nitwit!" he snapped. "I was hoping that O'Rly would take the fall. That would have been the theory I was going to put forwardâ as your defense!"
Phoenix's blood went cold and he felt his heart thump like a lightning bolt had hit his chest.
"You were going to send an innocent woman to jail over it then," he said, staring up at Kristoph's face, watching the tension in his jaw, and the blond strands of hair over his cheeks.
"Please! Don't try to pretend Olga O'Rly was some shining jewel of virtue," he snorted. "If the law found her guilty, then she's guilty. It happens every day, Phoenix Wright. The law finds innocent people guilty and everyone moves on with their lives."
"It shouldn't happen," Phoenix insisted. The lightning bolt feeling had spread through the rest of his body, tingling through his hands and feet.
"Well it damned well does!"Â
There was a silence between them for a moment, and he watched Kristoph take a shuddering breath, and carefully fix his hair.
"We're trying to fix it," Phoenix said, finally. It seemed like an awfully pathetic thing to say in the circumstances.Â
"So I've heard," he replied, taking another long, deep breath. He painted the calm smile back onto his face. "And I'd like to be a part of that, Nick. That's why I asked Lana to talk to Miles. If you're going to remake the law, I can help. I want to help."
There was a desperate, cloying tone in Kristoph's voice. Phoenix didn't like that it reminded him of when they'd been in bed together.
"Look," Phoenix said, taking a long breath of his own. "Look, Kris, even if that was the real reason you killed Zak Gramaryeâ you can't just kill somebody for being a shitty father."
"No. No you can't just kill someone for that," he agreed. "In fact they put you in jail for it if they catch you!"
Kristoph laughed hollowly and he put his fingers around the bars again, as if it were all some joke.
Phoenix stood up from the little chair, and he walked up to the bars, close enough that he and Kris might have been able to touch. He slid his hands in his pockets instead, and slouched in front of him.
"They sure do, buddy," Nick sighed. "But that isn't even the only murder you committed. Kristophâ you poisoned an old man. You tried to poison a child. And for what? Your own ego?"
Kristoph looked away. "You would condemn me for a mistake made in my youth?"
Nick's ears rang. He'd heard it before, from Kristoph's brother. On that fateful day in court. He wondered if perhaps it was a family saying.
"KristophâŚ" Nick began limply, and he trailed off. He didn't know what to say, what was there to say?
"Nicholas."
It got a laugh out of him. Lady Justice help him, it did. That stupid nickname.
"Why do you even call me that?" Phoenix asked, rubbing his eyes.
Kristoph smiled. "Because it's funny that it isn't your name."
"I guessâŚ"
Seven years worth of memories flashed through Nick's mind, like seven years worth of knives. There were good times. Damn itâ there were a lot of good times. Why did Kristoph have to be like this? Why did Kristoph have to beâŚ
Kristoph's fingers stroked the bar between them. "I'd ask if I'd spoiled our visit, but I don't think there was really anything to spoil in the first place."
"Do you think I'm going to apologize for not visiting before?" Phoenix asked.
"Are you?"
He didn't answer the question. "You have Athena's yes vote for prosecuting cases, Kris."
"And what about your vote, Nick?"
Phoenix wrapped his fingers around the same bar as Kristoph was, just above his hand, not quite touching, but lingering. A glance at the man's fingers told him that Kris had lost weight in prison. He hadn't had all that much to lose.
"It's not my vote you need, Kristoph."
"I'd still like to have it."
Kristoph's fingers crawled up the bars, and their skin brushed. Phoenix winced at the contact, but he didn't move away. He didn't understand what was happening in his chest. The staccato beat loud, and insistent.Â
"It's up to Trucy," Phoenix said, still not answering the question. "And to Vera Misham."
Kristoph looked at him pleadingly, blue eyes as stormy as the sea. "Do I have your vote, Nick?"
Phoenix bit his lip, and his fingers came to rest on top of Kristoph's. "I'll talk to Trucy, okay? Don't expect much."
Kristoph's calm smile took on an uneasy edge, and he nodded, reaching out from between the bars to put his free hand against Phoenix's jaw. Nick winced, but once again, didn't pull away.
"I won't," Kristoph replied. "But you know, life's full of crazy surprises."
Phoenix made a choked noise as Kristoph, like always, threw his words back at him. He grabbed him by the collar, through the barsâ and pulled him into a sudden, tight kiss that just barely connected, both of their faces framed and squished by cold metal.
It was a breathless, thirsty and desperate kiss, even more so than what had once been typical for them. When Phoenix let him go, Kristoph was panting, and his hair had once again fallen in front of his face.
"Yeah," Phoenix snorted. He rubbed his face, flushed. "Life's full of crazy surprises alright. I'd better go."
"Before the guard comes in to break us up?" Kristoph drawled. "Or to decide if he's going to sell the footage to the papers? Yes, you'd probably better. But⌠I enjoyed our little visit."
"I'm sure."
"Come back soon?" He leaned on the bars, smiling at him, and Nick felt a little sick to his stomach.
"Maybe. I'll talk to Trucy."
"Thank you, Nick. My dear friend.."
"Yeah."
Phoenix turned to go, but stopped when Kristoph addressed him one more time.
"Phoenixâ say hello to Apollo for me, would you?"
For the second time it felt like an arrow went through his chest, and he turned to look over his shoulder at Kristoph, framed through the bars of the cell.
"Sorry, Kris, Apollo moved out of the country."
"What?" Â Nick watched as Kristoph pressed himself up against the bars. "Phoenix Wright, you come back here and you explain to me what the hell I've missed."
Phoenix grinned over his shoulder, and waved his hand, walking away down the hall toward the security checkpoint.
"Sorry, Kris. I'll catch you up on gossip next time I visit."
The game, it seemed, was back on. And for now, Phoenix very much had the upper hand.

So I can't animate or draw well enough to do this but I do think the world needs a Krisnix No children animatic. So a breakdown/story board plan and idk maybe I'll make it as practice for some of the comic stuff I want to do.
I hope that our few remaining friends give up on trying to save us: Edgeworth and Maya desperately trying to contact Phoenix who is ignoring their calls. Maybe including Edgeworth insisting that Phoenix would never forge evidence to lead into the next line
I hope we come up with a fail safe plot to piss of the dumb few that forgave us: Phoenix forging the ace and then a reference to SL9 dagger to hammer home what that would mean to Edgeworth
I hope the fences we mended: Kristoph being the only vote in favour of him
Fall down beneath their own weight: Kristoph doing the small manipulative smile with the diary page in the background
And I hope we hang on past the last exit: Phoenix meeting Trucy
I hope it's already too late: Kristoph watching Phoenix losing the badge
I hope the junk yard a few block from here some day burns down: the courtroom burning
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away and I never come back to this town again: Phoenix going to Europe with Edgeworth
In my life: warmer colours come in as we get a little close up of Edgeworth seeing Phoenix and smiling
I hope I lie: warm colours gone Kristophs black psyche locks
And tell everyone you were a good wife: Phoenix telling Edgeworth about Kristoph while smiling. Colours are muted but still brighter than the rest
And I hope you die: back to black. them dining. Kristoph speaking
I hope we both die: same but Phoenix speaking
I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow: Kristoph killing Zak (not the best line for but idk what else to put and this works for the general narrative flow)
I hope it bleeds all day long: Phoenix in the detention center
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises: trucy, with Apollo entering in the background
We're pretty sure they're all wrong: Phoenix getting decked by Apollo
I hope it stays dark for ever: Kristoph in his cell, wanting to keep what he did in the dark
I hope the worst isn't over: Phoenix post turnabout trump working on Mason
And I hope you blink before I do: spilt screen of Kristoph reading in his cell and Phoenix working on Mason
And I hope I never get sober: Grape juice on the desk beside Phoenix's computer
And I hope when you think of me years down the line: Phoenix in his new suit with the full WAA found family.
you can't find one good thing to say: Athena finds the nail polish bottle, Phoenix scowls while Klavier gets a hug from Apollo and Trucy looks forelorn
And I'd hope that I ever found the strength to walk out you'd stay the hell out of my way: Phoenix getting his badge back
I am drowning, there is no sign of land, You are coming down with me, Hand in unloveable hand, And I hope you die: Kristoph screaming this as he has his breakdown
I hope we both die: Phoenix putting away the hoodie and putting the beanie on the shelf and pouring the grape juice down the sink. Symbolically killing that version of himself
Writing this out I do really want to do it but if anyone else beats me to it, I'd love to see it because I am Bad at Art and while this could be fun practice seeing someone more skilled make this would be awesome too, though I'd appreciate being tagged so I can see it

Been a while since I've posted. I've decided I hate Facebook again and for now I'm letting off steam here.
I said before that I'd deleted my long rant and just stuck to a mini-rant. Well, today I'm posting a long rant. Fair warning: This is a rant.
As far as I can tell, there's no good news about the Borderlands movie. They've changed Commander Knoxx's character to be Atlas's daughter instead of General Knoxx, so I guess she'll be Commander Atlas now. That... doesn't matter. Of all the issues I have with this movie, whose daughter she is is probably the least important. Actually, it's not an issue. Her EXISTENCE is an issue, but not which NPC is her parent. Atlas isn't even an NPC, it's just a gun manufacturer, presumably named after its founder. We never see the founder(s) nor, as far as I can remember, hear any backstory. I'm not sure which problem they were trying to solve by the rename.
First problem: We do have to rescue Lilith, Athena, and one other who I won't mention due to spoilers. I can only think of those three. Lilith tells you to kill her if you can't save her... "Better dead than a damsel." Athena engineers her own rescue; you're just the muscle. So there's kind of a dearth of damsels in this franchise. The movie's premise is that Commander uh... Atlas?... needs to be rescued. So, right. Damsel in distress. Kind of immediately contradicts the lore of Borderlands, who has strong women who generally don't need rescuing.
Second is: why General Knoxx's er, I mean, Atlas's daughter? She's a new character. It's like BORDERLANDS ISN'T CHARACTER-RICH ENOUGH, we have to add more just to get the plot started.
Edit: She still shows credited as Commander Knoxx in my web search, including on IMDB. I saw Atlas in the last article I saw on the movie. It's possible it was simply mistaken. I note parenthetically that Knoxx works for Atlas Corporation, and the DLC he's in is Atlas-heavy. Could just be a mistake. Edit to the edit: The Wikipedia article premise mentions her as Atlas's daughter. But she's named Knoxx. I'm fucking confused; which is she?
Next: They have Kevin Hart playing Roland. Kevin Hart is a comedian. Roland is a serious, somber, straightforward guy who never jokes and never laughs, or even smiles. Any humor that happens in relation to him works because it plays off his sober sincerity.
Roland: Oh good, you're not dead. Lilith: That's his way of saying "Hi". Roland: Sorry. Hi.
Why do they need a stand-up comedian to play Roland? Either Hart is trying to branch out and do some serious acting, or... they're making a comedy.
OK, Cate Blanchett is doing Lilith. I don't know if she's the best choice, but I don't know who else I'd recommend. I guess I'm OK with that.
As for Tannis... I love Jamie Lee Curtis, but she's a scream queen that also does comedies. Tannis isn't FUNNY, she's TRAGIC. Again, there's humor, but it plays off her personality, which is informed by her severe social awkwardness. (She's pretty much coded autistic. I don't know if it's canon.) No doubt the trauma she's suffered has exacerbated any existing personality deficits. Or caused new ones. Can Curtis do a sober Tannis? I mean, play her seriously, not deadpan. I don't know. Again, I don't think she's meant to -- this movie is looking more like a comedy every day. Could be worse, but I'm not sure I'd pick her.
Next, we have Claptrap, who is introduced as "The wise-cracking robot" and played by... Jack Black, a comedic voice actor. Thing is, Claptrap does not crack wise. He's hilarious, but that's because, similarly to Roland and Tannis, the game plays off his naive sincerity. He's funny because he's so serious, but clueless. I haven't memorized every line in the entire franchise enough to instantly recall everything that every claptrap robot has said, but as far as I can remember, Claptrap has told MAYBE three jokes on purpose. One is self-referential, spoken by a claptrap who is supposed to be programming the game: "Borderlands? More like Memelands, am I right?" One is spoken right after a hatch is automatically locked, trapping you in the first map: "I hear that getting eaten by bullymongs isn't such a bad way to go." Was that one a deliberate joke? Don't know, so that's my "maybe." And the third is from a side mission called The Iceman Cometh. It's a moderately silly pun that any 10-year-old would be proud of. When you (as a character) don't react, he then EXPLAINS THE JOKE. When you still don't react, he LECTURES YOU on the nature of humor. TWICE. Naive sincerity, not cracking wise. So again, this suggests the movie being a comedy.
So, we have two of the four vault hunters from the first game, Lilith and Roland. The roles of Mordecai and Brick are interesting, in that THEY AREN'T THERE. Why?
Tiny Tina is. She's a psychotic young teen with a penchant for explosives. She's got a connection to Brick, who -- for some reason -- isn't in the movie. She's not the kind of person who needs a bodyguard -- she's the kind of person against whom YOU need a bodyguard. I only bring this up because... ... Krieg is her bodyguard in the movie. Why? I already mentioned her connection to Brick. Krieg doesn't have a connection to Tina, he has a connection to Maya. I don't know when this movie is supposed to take place in the Borderlands timeline, but if Lilith is retired, it'll be between the first and second. Possibly around the time of the Pre-Sequel. We don't see Krieg until BL2, where he's added as the last playable character after the original four plus Gaige. So the timeline doesn't make sense and Krieg's connection to Tina doesn't make sense and Krieg being Tina's bodyguard doesn't make sense. I don't know anything about the actors, I may look them up and try to watch some of their stuff.
Tina doesn't show in the game until BL2, but there's no reason to think she hasn't been around since Borderlands, we just haven't seen her. (But only after the events of BL:PS, since it's Jack's slag experiments on Tina's parents that kill them and drive her into being a vengeful little psychopath.) But Krieg doesn't show up until he becomes a vault hunter? OTOH until then he was living as a psycho... probably on Pandora. So I suppose the timeline might be OK, technically. I'll give them that one. But I still object to the Tina/Krieg connection.
Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi: Gina is an attractive woman, doesn't have Moxxi's curves, and she's 61. She's pretty hot-looking but I'm not sure she really fits the character, physically. Can she do Moxxi's va-va-voom? Don't know.
Charles Babalola: I don't know him. I try not to get upset at race lifts; I'm used to Sir Hammerlock being the "great white hunter" stereotype, but I suppose it doesn't hurt anything if he's black. At least he's British. This is a weak protestation at most. EDIT: Several people have pointed out that he's canonically black, which I never noticed. Well, OK then, that one's on me.
Bobby Lee plays Larry. He's another stand-up comedian. There sure are a lot of those for a serious film, eh? Also, who the fuck is Larry?
Ryann Redmond as Ellie: nobody's going to match Ellie's unrealistic proportions, but Ryann seems like a reasonable choice physically; basically, you just need a plus-sized woman who can act. I don't know anything about her acting but I presume she's competent, at least. Ellie is a smartass, so wise-cracking from her is welcome. So how come they cast a stand-up comedian as Roland but a serious actress as Ellie? The cognitive dissonance is making my brain cramp.
And Eli Roth has left the project and declared that he does not want credit for his writing. THAT bodes well.
This is supposed to be canon. Canon my ass. This is a TRAVESTY. EDIT: Somebody said it's not supposed to be canon. I read that it is. I'll try to dig up the reference when I get a minute. EDIT 2: Sorry it took me so long, I was busy procrastinating. Now, in my memory, when the first announced the movie they claimed it would be "true to Borderlands", but of course that's changed. I must have skimmed over the more recent "canon" phrasing, sorry. Apparently it's changed to "canon for the Borderlands Cinematic Universe", which is not the same as canon to the games. To me that's seems a bit disingenuous, considering that as far as I can tell, the Borderlands Cinematic Universe consists of one unfinished movie. (And calling it a "Borderlands Cinematic Universe" also seems a bit conceited since their first -- and so far only -- entry has been in Production Hell for 9 years and hasn't even finished.) So my apologies for getting the "canon" claims wrong, but I'm still unhappy and I think they're making excuses. They've taken an Action Movie script, grabbed some names from the Borderlands franchise, and pretended that the result is a Borderlands movie. They did that with Sly Stallone and the first Judge Dredd movie, remember? (Maybe you don't, but I was a fan of the comics. Fortunately the second movie was much, much better.) This makes me think of Stallone's Judge Dredd. (Also the anime version of the Lensman, but that one's pretty obscure.)
Anyway, I have more, but I think I've said what I need to. I may watch the movie out of morbid curiosity. I'm not going to dislike it out of spite, I'm not that hateful. I'll try to give it a chance. I just don't like the odds.

Why should we feel suspense about Athena possibly crashing a plane or Denny being hit by a car when we know they don't kill their main characters anyway?
Why should we worry about Gerrard taking over the 118 or Henren loosing Mara when we know they're will be a happy ending anyway?
Why should we worry about Henren tensions over Hen's job when we know they'd never really put being a first responder in a bad light anyway?
Why should we believe that Eddie has now truly found himself when every previous time he regressed to the same traumatised person anyway?
Why should we root for any of Buck's romantic relationships when we know they won't last more than a season anyway?
Why should we care about any of these storylines when we've seen them a hundred times before and we know the ending anyway?
Why are we even still watching this show when all of the developments ended after s3 anyway?
(This got out of hand, but apparently I still have plenty to say.)
I think putting characters into dangerous or emotionally taxing situations isn't necessarily about the "Will they survive/overcome this struggle?" (They will. We know this.) it's about the "How will they survive/overcome this struggle?" and "What will they have to endure to make it through?"
But for those questions to actually catch the viewers attention and to keep them interested you have to be creative, find complications for the characters to struggle with, evoke genuine emotions and empathy from the viewers. You can't do that if you keep giving the characters easy solutions right away and rush storylines that could've easily taken half a season to be resolved.
Even repeating themes can be interesting if you switch things up a little. Show how the characters dealt with it then and how they deal with it now. Is there new information, more context this time?
A relatively(!) good example for this (I think so at least) was last season's "Step Nine" (7x08). They once again brought up Bobby's struggles with depression, addiction and suicidal ideation and they once again brought up the Minnesota apartment fire. But they also brought new aspects to the topic.
For one, they gave us more information about Bobby's childhood and his father's history with addiction. It gave us a nice parallel, history repeating itself (professional and reputable firefighter, family man, father of 2, wrecks his marriage and destroys his life by leaning on substance abuse as a crutch), but they also gave us Bobby breaking the cycle. He got sober, started accepting help and put his life (and himself) back together again.
They also introduced a new character, Amir, and at first we couldn't be sure how he fit into the picture. And with Amir they added another layer to Bobby's grief and guilt. He left Minnesota to get a fresh start and he used that fresh start to do penance until he was in a place where he could also think about doing things for himself again. But he only ever sought penance for the lives that ended in that fire, not the lives which's trajectory got changed forever that night. He ran from that, but now it caught up with him.
They did kind of drop the ball on that in the finale, sadly. They used the "could Amir be the real villain here?" red herring twice over the course of only three episodes which is just lazy and I also wish that at this point in the story Bobby would've asked for help. Instead he let things get so bad that he basically planned his suicide again, had a huge fight with Athena again, instead of talking things out with her they both almost died again and that was the end of that conflict again.
A really bad example on the other hand is the Ortiz storyline. This is I think the fourth custody battle Henren go through with one of their children. Eva tried to get Denny back twice, they lost Nia and then Mara. (There was also the failed IVF plot if you wanna count that as one of the "almost losing a kid" plots.) (911 really said "let's make these lesbians suffer as much as possible in their attempt to start and keep a family.")
Now Ortiz is, admittedly, a new kind of antagonist. Unlike Eva, Ortiz has a lot of power and can really use the system to work against Hen (and Karen, but mostly Hen). They showed that and raised the stakes pretty early in 8x04 by putting a contact ban into place between the Wilsons and Mara.
Which could've led to a truly delicious, multi-layered, emotionally complex conflict involving not only Hen and Karen, but also the Han family. Because at first it was a real blessing that Maddie and Chim were able to take in Mara, but now? Now they can't even spend time together as families anymore. How does that impact Hen and Chim's ride-or-die friendship of over 15 years? Are Hen and Karen resentful that Mara is now a part of the Han family instead while they can't even talk to her anymore? Do Chim and Maddie feel guilty? How is Mara herself coping with all of this? Eddie also just lost his son in a similar enough way and can't talk to him, does he bond with Hen and Karen over that?
But before any of those questions can be posed, before any feelings of empathy for all these characters can really settle in, before Ortiz can stir up even more shit for Hen and without any of the characters directly affected really doing anything, the problem is solved. In the very same episode. While they also spend way to much time on a cgi tiger for some reason. I just. Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking.
Sadly, 911 rarely if ever takes the time anymore to let a storyline develop naturally and over the course of multiple episode. They skip over the truly gut-wrenching parts and fast forward to the easy solution.

Bobby Nash's Season 7 Story Arc and His Full-Circle Growth
Ever since Season 1, we've known that Bobby Nash has felt tremendous guilt regarding the Minnesota apartment fire that killed his wife, two kids, and 145 other souls. In fact, during Season 1 he frequently takes out or references his little black book. In it he records a life saved that represents one of the lives lost in that fire.
As of Season 7 Episode 8, it has officially been 10 years since that fateful night that turned Bobby's life around -- getting him clean, sober, and back to being the firefighter he was always meant to be. That in itself is significant. 10 years means he has probably saved close to 148 people if not more. (But wouldn't it be poetic if his 148th save is Athena) It is also a well-rounded number that shows viewers something major is coming down the pipeline for him regarding that.
I want to dive into the significance of Amir, but before I do that, I want to back up to the start of this season and break down how this whole season has been about Bobby's finale.
From the start of Bobby and Athena's cruise arc, it has been quite evident that Bobby's journey this season will involve finally accepting the love he's been given and letting go of the burden of guilt he's been carrying around for 10 years. We see that in how he interacts with two people he met on a call with Athena during the early days of their knowing each other.
He gets the opportunity to do a heroic save of Norman despite all the odds. In the moment, we didn't think anything of it, but now that we've seen Season 7 Episode 9, the moment carries weight. Bobby has always felt that he doesn't deserve praise or recognition for the work he does because he's "just doing his job." And when Athena mentions, "if Buck could see him now," Bobby immediately quips back that he'd rather it be Buck doing the saving.
At first, it seems like that comment is just an offhand "I'm not a hero needing recognition kind of comment," but then in the context of the penultimate episode, we see that, in actuality, Bobby doesn't feel he deserves anyone else to see him do something so reckless and dangerous, especially when he's still not sure if Norman will survive or not.
During that same 3-episode arc, we see Bobby and Athena trapped in the ship as the water rises. Bobby tells Athena that he's proud of her and grateful for the life they've built. He mentions that when the apartment fire happened, he never expected to find love and family again. This admission and acceptance in a moment of distress highlights early on that Bobby is about to embark on a wider story arc of acceptance this season.
Then, he risks it all by going fully underwater to hold up his wife so that she can survive. That's the strength of a man who isn't afraid to die, nor does he seek it out like he once did as a means of escape. For Bobby, dying to save Athena is the ultimate sacrifice, and he would do it a million times over. He's made peace with his life.
Of course, we don't really see that for what it is until Season 7 Episode 9 forces us to reflect on everything Bobby has done this season.
Now, we can talk about the significance of Amir. Just when Bobby felt he had dealt with everything regarding his past, or at least we felt he had, along comes this guy who survived the apartment fire.
All through Season 7 Episode 8, Bobby is going out of his way to force Amir to tell him he absolves Bobby of his guilt, but why? It all comes down to Bobby needing someone outside himself, who's life was affected by the old version of him, to recognize that Bobby isn't that person anymore. He can hear it from the 118 and Athena until they are all blue in the face, but he won't believe it until someone from his past says it.
Therefore, going after Amir, trying to save him, all while having flashback memories of his father (more on that soon) is a significant step toward Bobby accepting that he's become a better man than he ever thought he could be.
Amir even telling him that he can't absolve him because he still feels anger toward him, helps Bobby to see his own absolution for himself. It helps him to realize that he can't rely on this growth or closure from anyone but himself. If he wants to rid himself of his guilt he has to do it for himself. He has to be ready.
Now, before I get to the nitty-gritty of Season 7 Episode 9's symbolism and significance we have to talk about his father. Don't worry. I am almost done here. Thanks for sticking with me thus far.
So, what is the significance of bringing Bobby's father into the narrative during Season 7, after Bobby has had his life put together for some time? Because it narratively clues us into the internal struggle Bobby still has about the man he was, the man he believes he now is, and how much time he feels he has left.
We see Bobby think back on his father winning a major accommodation for his work in and out of a uniform despite the truth that the man was a functioning alcoholic -- until he wasn't. Bobby thinking about the trajectory his father's life went on has major significance as he tries to force Amir to amend his guilt.
Bobby is showing the viewer that he was led down the path of alcoholism thanks to his father. But there are subtler clues in each of these flashback scenes that deserve to be talked about.
First, there is the award his father receives, its clearly a moment that Bobby looks back on as one of the last times he saw his father in a positive light. He made him a book (which comes up later in a different way) and chose his father when given the choice between households after the divorce.
Then, there are the moments Bobby takes care of his dad -- cooking for him -- that show us why Bobby is the caretaker he currently is today. And, there is the anger his father felt when Bobby called the fire department because of a little fire. It's clearly a guilt that Bobby has carried with him all these years later.
Finally, and most significantly, Bobby learns to ignore his dad because he is frustrated with the way the man treats him and how drunk he always is. By ignoring him, his father dies, and Bobby isn't there to call for help in time to save him. This kickstarts Bobby picking up alcohol as an acceptable drink.
Thanks to these flashbacks, we better understand that Bobby is the father of the 118 because he was failed by his own father, which led him down a path of drinking and failing his own children. Bobby's move to LA after the apartment fire allowed him to fully start over and be the man he always wished his father could be and the man he could've been without his father's influence.
Now, let's dive into every move Bobby makes on Season 7 Episode 9 and everything he says.
From the moment Bobby is awarded an honor for being a wonderful firefighter and hero, in and out of the uniform, we know this isn't going to go over well with Bobby. In fact, right after the ceremony he is seen arguing with his boss, resigning according to Athena.
I'm no expert, but if I had to put my money on anything, it would be on Bobby connecting his award to the end of his father's career and life. Bobby's father received the exact same kind of award right before his drinking lost him his job and turned him into a violent, hateful man. Bobby lives in fear of becoming that person. He was already close enough to it when the Minnesota apartment fire happened.
As I previously said, he's moved forward from that, but this ceremony brings all that guilt back in full force, and he can't continue being the man he's been this past decade.
When Athena confronts him, he finally breaks down and admits the existence of his little black book of 148 lines. When she asks him about where it is and he claims he threw it out we can see in his eyes that the physical book might be gone but that list is still in his head. And he thinks about it regularly.
Then the most gut-wrenching words come out of Bobby's mouth, "I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HERE!" This leads everyone, including Athena, to believe he's suicidal and thinking of ending things. But I noticed something different. I noticed the anguish and finality of his statement. He's not thinking of ending it all; he's frustrated that he has this beautiful thing that he has started to truly believe will be snatched back from him.
This is where I start to think that Bobby possibly senses that something is going to happen to him soon. Whether its because he feels his path is bound to mirror his father's or it's because he gets the vibe that his time on Earth is coming to a close. He's done what he's supposed to, so why is he still here?
My theory that he knows his time is coming to a close is backed up by the words and actions he has with his team. Bobby could easily sit everyone down and tell them he's ready to retire and live a life of leisure, but he doesn't. Instead, he makes sure to spend significant time with each member of his team, including Ravi, to give them a final memory of him or some final nuggets of wisdom.
His words to Hen about needing to believe she has more to offer the world are going to come in handy in the near future as she fights to keep Mara in her family. He is passing the torch to Hen so to speak, telling them that she still has some "babies" to mother, as he looks to Buck and Eddie.
Then, there is the final scene between Buck and Bobby. For the first time in his life, Buck gets to hear someone he sees as a parental figure tell him they are proud of him. Bobby's words of love and appreciation really seal the deal that Bobby believes he's not going to have the chance to speak to this young man he sees as his son ever again. He passes on the advice that Buck has found a good person in Tommy and that he's grown into quite the firefighter over the last 7 years.
If Bobby's time really has come, it's a beautiful send-off for him that allows his character to come full circle. He started off believing he wasn't worthy of the uniform he wore because he couldn't save his own family from a fire he caused. And now, someone has set fire to his home with Athena, and he has successfully saved her, to his own detriment.
Again, we aren't sure how many people he's saved of the 148, but wouldn't it just be the cherry on top of his story if Athena was his 148?

"greek-Bros": Sussy Imposter
*after the bois visit to the Celtic/Gaelic Island that will become England*
Apollo: Oh it was magnificent! The lush country side-
Dionysus: the endless mead at the Celtic god's place, man was that great.
Apollo: oh and the Gaelic pantheon there was very hospitable.
Zeus: I am very pleased to hear you all had such a lovely time, Hermes you seem rather quiet is there anything you would like to share?
Hermes: .....father....
Zeus: ?
Hermes: How's does one become a "King of Gods" again? I mean does it go by human monarchial rules o-
Zeus: My dear boy, do you remember the last time we had this conversation?
Hermes: ...ugm ..no?
Zeus: hmmm well, the last we both had this conversation was that if you told me that if you ever asked the question of 'becoming king of the gods' again, to as you adamantly put it...."tie you to the nearest marble column and interrogate you"
Hermes: .....*makes a surprisingly slow paced run for it, for Hermes 's standards*
Zeus: seise him.
Apollo: what?
Zeus: DO IT
*after the world's most hilarious chase insuses in which I shall not elaborate on*
Hermes: What the hell?! What is the meaning of this?!
Apollo and Dionysus: *now both a little worried about this situation*
Zeus: Alright, talk.....who are you?
Apollo: Father, it's Hermes.
Dionysus: ugh...did Athena give you that "special medicine" again?
Zeus: WHATno. Hermes and I made an accord that if anything suspicious had ever happened to him, to treat the suspected accordingly until proven innocent. I'm not certain as to why he instructed me to go through this protocol but it seems that it's the appropriate time to do so.... because this is NOT Hermes...this .... person...is AN IMPOSTER.
Dionysus: *takes out the tiniest lyre and plays the Among us theme"
Hermes: *sitting quietly*
Apollo: ugh ok...that is the most insane thing you have ever uttered in your life....also isn't it "Innocent until proven guilty"?
Zeus: Nonsense dear boy how on earth would anything be done if that were the case?
Apollo: *the dawning moment of irony*
Dionysus: Come on dad, what's wrong with Hermes now?
Zeus: he never calls me "Father".
Dionysus: ah..but I mean, that's clearly him.
Hermes: Yes, it's me your dear and loyal and clearly beloved son Hermes whom has done everything for you. *Puppy dog eyes*
Zeus: *cold unloving stare*
Apollo: Father stop this madness and untie Hermes.
Hermes: *disheveled, dirty and covered in leaves, comes out of the corner* DON'T UNTIE THAT FUKN FAKE ASS LOON.
*everyone le gasps*
Zeus: Ah!...is really you Hermes?
Other Hermes: *chews through his restraints, leaps at Hermes and the both of them start beating each other up*
Apollo: GREAT HEAVENS!
Dionysus: If I wasn't 50% sober right now this would be a funny ass trip.
Apollo: Dionysus do something! I can't tell which one is which!
Dionysus: ugh....*getting confused* oh shit it's just like that coconut shell game.
Zeus: ENOUGH! *grabs the both of them and ties them up* Alright! Which one of you is my son, and which is the Imposter!?
*both Hermes start yelling and pointing at each other calling one and another imposter*
Dionysus: wait there's only one person who can help now....*points to a corner*
Ares: *tries to sneak away with a bag of chips* ..........what ever this bs is.....I didn't do it.
Zeus: Ah yes.... wait how is Ares going to help us?
Hermes: ARES! Please! It's me man come on!
Hermes: Ares I'm the real Hermes! Can't you tell? I'm the real Hermes.
Zeus: Ares! This is a matter of life and death, I'm going to have to strike one of them down and let the other live....which one i-
Ares: *points to the Hermes on the right* seriously guys, it's that one right there.
Zeus:....wut.
Apollo: Ares are you sure you don't want a little more time t-
Area: no seriously the other guy has fake ears
Zeus, Dionysus and Apollo: âď¸
Ares: *walks up to the other Hermes and takes off his fake ears revealing elf ears* see fake ears.
Other Hermes: ....*let's out a scream since his ears were practically scrunched inside a small set of humanish ears*
Apollo: wut the?
Dionysus: *squints a little*....hey wait a minute I know him, that's Oberon.
Apollo, Ares and Hermes: WHO?
Zeus: Ah yes, Oberon, also known as the EXILED TITAN PRINCE OF THE FAIRIES.
Dionysus: yeah now I remember, we had a rager a couple of years ago and he turned all my guests into random items....banned him for life for killing the mood.
Oberon: *world's most thickest Scottish accent* AND I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT TOO IF IT WEREN'T FOR YOUR LOG HEADED DOLF.
Ares: hey I resent that. *Eats his chips*
Apollo: but wait how did Ares know he wasn't Hermes? In fa t I should have known better?!
Hermes: We're bros Apollo, just like how we are. *Fist bumps Ares*
Apollo and Dionysus: *a little jealous about the fact Ares can actually do that*
Zeus: ah yes, Oberon... wait until your mother Titania hears about this.
Oberon: HA! Like that tart would care about my mischief.
Hermes: ugh dad I just have a question, why does he LOOK like me.....am...I a fairy?
Zeus: *let's out the hardest and loudest laugh a god like Zeus can make* No my dear Hermes....your half nymph and half god....your far more than some woodland deity.
Oberon: And YOU! *Referring to Dionysus*
Dionysus: *sheepishly points to himself*
Oberon: If I catch your kin in my island again i-
Titania: *makes a dramatic entrance* And WHAT are you going to do my child?
Zeus: Ah hello my dear.
Titania: Zeus.
Oberon: *feels fear*
Titania: *struts to Oberon, pinches his ear and lifts him up* It is time for a VERY long time-out. My apologies my lord, I do not raise my children with such insolence.
Zeus: Oh no matter my Lady, I too have similar issues.
The bois: D:< hey
Zeus: silence.
Titania: So long, and fair well. *leaves as she drags Oberon by the ear like a dirty rag*
Oberon: I'LL HAVE MY REV-~ow!
Zeus: Hahahaha. Well. I am off to see your mother for a visit. *Leaves*
Apollo: ... wait....which one?
Ares, Apollo, Hermes and Dionysus: *now just wondering which 'mother' was Zeus referring to*
Hermes: ...can someone untie me
Ares: hold on not until I find out which mom dad was talking about.
Hermes: ....unting me technically can help.
Dionysus: well now that you said that, it sounds sussy.
Apollo: hmm yes. You must stay there for a little longer.
Hermes: seriously guys

Your OCs are walking into a public restroom where they see a woman staring into a shattered mirror, blood and glass on her fist. It's Athena, yet again spiraling because of her body dysmorphia. She is very drunk and very volatile. What do they do?
Ooooh, very interesting....
Rae: Is more concerned than she lets on, but doesn't want to provoke an outright fight. She goes up to wash her hands in the sink next to Athena's, and offers the most casual "hey, you alright?" she can manage. She'll push a little if Athena brushes her off, but will hopefully stop needling before it turns into an outright argument- or physical fight. It wouldn't be the first time.
Robin: Also tries to play it cool, since she figures Athena really doesn't want more direct attention right now, but offers her a few paper towels to press against her bleeding hand, and compliments her hair or outfit.
Madison: Just walks right back out of the bathroom, and steers her sisters away before they can go it. It's not her business, she doesn't want it to be her business, and she has a sinking suspicion that someone's going to end up hurt if she tries to engage.
Ophelia: Kinda just minds her business, uses the restroom and get out. She's spent almost her whole life in NYC, she's seen much worse and much weirder in public restrooms and has learned to mostly just keep to herself. She's concerned for Athena, but also assumes she's strung-out on something and doesn't want to get caught up in all of that.
Jasper: I mean, it's New Orleans.... the paragon of the drunk and disorderly. Believe it or not, they've dealt with worse. Athena refuses to be taken to an emergency room, but Jasper manages to get her hand bandaged and coaxes her out of the bathroom, away from the mirrors
Kestrel: Manages to get Athena to another corner of the bathroom, away from the mirrors, and charms her hand so that the bleeding will stop. Mind you, they're sustaining all manner of drunken vitriol from Athena during all this, but they're mostly just ignoring that. If they're feeling particularly creative, they might shapeshift into Athena herself, to give her an outside perspective of what she looks like - it might help, or it might backfire horribly, but it's the only other idea they've got.
Katherine: She's more than a little wary, since Athena seems like she could attack her at a moment's notice, but she empathizes with the dysmorphia and wants to help. She'll keep her distance at first, but will try to talk Athena down a bit, and maybe take a look at her hand if she'll let her get close enough.
Quinn: Starts out a little sharp, since that's her default approach to most things ("Easy there, Ex Machina, I'm pretty sure you found all the cameras"), but genuinely does try to connect with Athena since she's had more than her share of dysphoria and body image issues herself. It doesn't really go well, though... Athena's very harsh and volatile, and while Quinn can take most of what she throws at them, eventually she starts going after their appearance and trying to drag her down with her, and that's when it shifts into an outright fight (at least until Five or Two overhear and manage to pull Quinn away)
Eris: Probably just ignores her at first, but Athena leers a little too close with one of those shards of glass in her hand, and before she can blink she's got a dagger to the throat. That seems to sober her up a bit, and she and Eris end up in a bit of a standoff, dagger against glass. Eris finally scoffs and puts their dagger away, figuring it's not worth the fight - or the cleanup, this bathroom really is nasty - but if nothing else it's a distraction from Athena's earlier dysmorphic spiralling.
Nikoletta: Covers the remaining mirrors with shadows, so Athena doesn't have to look at herself, and does her best to talk to her. Nik isn't great at comforting people, but she knows how that level of self-hatred feels so she's inclined to try and help.

In addition to this, I think Chrysaor being a one encounter bad guy was a huge waste. Look at what he is, an evil son of Poseidon, the son of Medusa who Percy killed, he was born when the original Perseus cut off his mother's head along with Pegasus, according to mythology he is the father of Geryon who Percy also killed, a monster man who has lived or been reborn for thousands of years, oh and he beat Percy in a fair fight something incredibly rare. He had all the makings of a reoccurring enemy as an evil Percy and never shows up again. Percy describes him as good as Ares, he's probably even better than Luke so he's one of the best swordsman in the series. It would have been great to see him constantly antagonize Percy as someone he can't beat no matter how hard he tries since killing the Hero of Olympus would give him the fame he craves it only makes sense for him to keep wanting to kill Percy. Hell it would be interesting if Percy had to resort to being Tartarus Percy to finally put his brother in the ground and the doors of death would be closed meaning he will be gone for a while. Plus it would be interesting since Chrysaor wasn't beaten in mythology so it would be Percy's victory above all the other heroes of myth who either never got the chance to kill him or never encountered him. Ironically making Chrysaor part of Percy's myth instead of gaining his own fame. It's just insane to me why this guy hasn't shown up again when he has so many reasons deep and shallow to go after Percy. I know he's dangerous, but I want him to be in the new books since he was such a wasted character in HoO.
I think the gods were underused. Sure they're supposed to be having trouble with their Greek and Roman sides battling for Dominance but it would be more interesting to see it happen. We only really see Athena/Minerva having actual difficulty with this and Ares/Mars arguing in Frank's head, but that's small potatoes compared to what is happening to Athena. We see Venus/Aphrodite who has no problem compared to the other gods, Apollo and Artemis/Diana who are basically the same and have much bigger issues. Most of the gods we see in HoO either are fine or we don't see them until after the schism is fixed so they are just as they always are. Annabeth meeting Minerva was a haunting scene that sent her on a suicidal quest that lead her to falling into Tartarus. It would be interesting to see the characters have an actual conversation with their parent as their opposite persona just to see what happens.
Bacchus is probably the biggest waste amongst the gods since he's also mostly fine. He shows up a couple of times and he's basically Mr. D but worse lacking any sympathetic quailities and hidden heart of gold that Dionysus has. Why though, Bacchus shouldn't have the same restrictions Mr. D had since they're different. Bacchus would have been a great way to show who Dionysus is when he isn't forced to be sober and banished from Olympus, chained to Camp Half-Blood. It would have been neat to show the wild but normally pretty decent man/god that Dionysus was before his punishment by Zeus. Seeing both sides of him might have been something Percy and Annabeth could discuss as the only ones who know Mr. D.
Honestly, my biggest issue with HoO is that the giants are kind of pathetic, they can be a threat to demigods, sometimes, but once a god steps in they're basically fodder. The final battle against them is an anticlimax while the demigod chats with their divine parent/mentor. Sure, they were seen as dangerous in Lost Hero, against 3 demigods, 2 who have only known about the world for a few days. but Percy was able to one on one the giant made to kill his father and Hazel and Frank killed Alcyoneus with no sweat thanks to his new powers and Arion. Yes, Polybotes is able to beat Percy in a later book, but every time after Lost Hero the more difficult thing is getting a god's help to finish off the giant since it needs to be both god and demigod to finish them off. Once the gods get their sanity back, the giants are no threat at all. Orion was the most success killing a lot of hunters and amazons and he's the smallest, but again, once Reyna gets the blessing of Athena and Bellona he's fodder. I get that they were probably supposed to be something of an anticlimax as Gaia is the big bad of the series, but then it should have been the Seven against her instead of Leo being able to scatter her consciousness alone.
Obviously hindsight is 20-20, and I'm criticizing from a reader perspective, but I think that nothing is above criticism. There's a big reason the Heroes of Olympus books aren't as beloved as the Percy Jackson and Olympian books. I think the series if fine despite my criticisms, but these were just things that I think could have done better or bugged me. If you have your own please add them or if you want to talk about any point I'd be happy to discuss
since I've been forced back into the PJO, HoO, and ToA fandom against my will (due to my adhd forcing me not someone forcing me) I have some thoughts on HOO.
no one should have been in a relationship other than Percabeth in the Seven, at least not at first. Don't get me wrong, I thought Hazel and Frank were cute together, but there was no reason to make them a couple in the book they're introduced.
Personally, I never really liked Piper and Jason together, despite liking both characters as people. I felt like it was a weird start and a weird choice to keep them together. To make matters worse, they get together really offscreen which means we don't really know them as people. I think it would have been more interesting if they had feelings for each other but were unsure if it was real or just from Hera. And I think it would have made their stories better if they realized that the friendship they forged between them was just better than the romance that was forced upon them by Hera.
Them not being actually together in the end I think would fit better with Jason's flip flopping between Greek and Roman. It kind of feels like him choosing the Greek side, while it does have to due with his own character, a lot of it feels like him wanting to stay with Piper. Personally I never felt like their relationship was that strong to earn that.
Speaking of Jason, I feel like there was so much wasted potential with him. I think Rick should have let him keep the coin or had Hera give him a spear at the end of Lost Hero since it would be a good way to differentiate him from Percy. Or him having a weapon that could change forms that he's a master of both would separate him from Percy who has only felt comfortable using Riptide. In fact using both weapons could have been a way to reveal his issue with not being able to choose Greek or Roman as a metaphor if he's good at both but never a master of either because he spent so much time learning both instead of focusing
I wish Rick also toned down the worf effect moments with Jason, I know with 7-9 main characters and having to make sure every character gets a shot is important, but it feels like Jason got shafted a lot of the time. There's a reason a crack ship in the fandom is Jasonxbrick. Jason from the beginning was brought up as Percy's Roman foil, being just as much of a badass, but while he has his moments, he never feels like Percy's equal, just another powerful demi-god on the boat, despite also being a child of the big 3. With Percy, we had 5 books of him being a badass and failing as we watch him go from 12 to 16 and while he does get worfed and nerfed sometimes during HoO, he gets as many awesome moments. We're introduced to Jason when he should be at his most badass, and he does have cool moments, but it feels like he gets tossed around or knocked out more than he has cool moments to get the other members of the Seven something to do.
I also never really understood the whole Greek and Roman divide inside of him storyline that he was having. I feel like either more time needed to be devoted to that or have it drop as a plot point completely. It seems kind of moot since one of the whole plots is working together and basically stop the fighting between Greek and Roman sides. I think it would have been more interesting if he had more scenes with Frank who is a child of two worlds and them realizing they don't' have to chose because both are part of them. I don't really understand why Jason would want to be more Greek than Roman anyway, while I personally prefer the Greek stuff, but since we don't get a lot of Jason in Camp Half-Blood, and what we do have is an atypical time. It kind of feels like a no brainer given how little we see of Roman side of the world, but I don't know, would have preferred Jason defending the stuff he grew up with rather than abandoning it.
I would have liked more with Reyna, I'm not sure what, but I would have liked her with the Seven for a while and forming relationships or the the lack of being able to is why she is willing to leave with Nico to deliver the statue.
Additionally with Reyna, I wish she had more time to just talk with Jason. At the end of Lost Hero, there's some implication that Jason has some sort of strong feelings towards Reyna, romantic or other we don't know, and we know from early on that Reyna had a crush on him in Son of Neptune. Then in Mark of Athena it doesn't matter, I don't think they even talk really as things go wrong so quickly and Jason and Piper got together offscreen. We see Reyna's reaction a bit, but even if they weren't romantic or even if it was a failed romantic relationships because Jason is with Piper, I feel like there could have been more. They were friends for a long time and I'm not sure if Jason and Reyna ever talk without someone there in the 5 books. I dont' want them together either, but I feel like something between them would have been nice.
This is ToA stuff but it happens to do with Reyna so I'm putting it here, but I don't really like that Reyna ends up joining the Hunters of Artemis. this is going to sound shitty, but I don't like that as a plot device and as a way to reveal she's AroAce. I know being Aromantic is a spectrum, but the implication of joining the Hunters is to swear off romance completely. I get that it is some people's dream, but I just don't like how Reyna's coming out was protrayed. She had romantic feelings for Jason and slight interest in Percy. Neither went there for obvious reasons, but I feel like there could have been more done with her being AroAce. Like it feels like her coming out as AroAce and joining the Hunters is because she never got the guy, not because of who she is. For example, I think it would have been interesting if she talked with someone about always going after guys who she could never be with specifically because she didn't feel the same way about romance that other kids her age did.
I will also say that part of me kind of wanted Piper and Reyna to pull a Korrasami before Korrasami was a thing, because I didn't like Piper and Jason together. It's selfish and I'm all for Reyna being AroAce or being AroAce on a spectrum since I know some and Reyna actually feels demiromantic to me personally. It would also have been nice for Reyna to give Venus the middle finger by falling in love with a daughter of Aphrodite after Venus said no demigod would heal her heart and made Reyna feel like she was broken all this time. I feel like it was supposed to be about self love or realizing she was AroAce but it's shitty thing to say it that way to a 14 year old
I think Leo was good overall as a character, but I am not a fan of his relationship with Calypso. I don't like the slap slap kiss kiss dynamic they had and with Leo kind of flirty because he felt like the odd one out of the Seven being the only one not in a relationship, I think his story would have been better if he realized that he wasn't actually the odd one out and his friends did love him. sort of him failing at romance but learning to love himself and find a place in a new found family. I will say, if there was someone for him to fall for, I liked his brief meeting with Echo far more than his relationship with Calypso and I think they all deserve better than canon, Calypso included.
Piper unfortunately so much of her character revolves around his relationship with Jason which is why I would prefer the Seven to not have romantic entanglement or let it grow or wither as the story went on. Don't get me wrong, she has some amazing scenes, but I feel like Rick didn't know what to do with her all the time, which I think a lot of characters in HoO suffered from.
I wanted to see more of Camp Jupiter. I get that quests are the driving plot of the whole Percy Jackson series as a whole so we can't spend that much time in one place. But the fact that Camp Jupiter was supposed to be the opposite of Camp Half-Blood, yet is a city state compared to a summer camp, it feels like we didn't spend nearly as much time there as we should. Like with Jason foiling Percy, we had 5 books of seeing bits and pieces of Camp Half-Blood we only got glimpses of Camp Jupiter.

Can I get a Leo Valdez x Son of Dionysus? I love your headcanons!
thank you so much for being so patient with your request!! i've made up a few aspects of dio kids so sorry if it's not exactly accurate
---------------------------
i feel like all dionysus kids are a lil bit mental
like if you want a party kicked into high gear? get a couple of dio's kids
its at one of these parties that leo first sees you
there's about four dionysus kids chanting 'more! more! more!' at an apollo kid downing shot after shot
and he sees you with a wild grin on your face and a frankly disgusting hawai'ian shirt
skin glowing under multicoloured lights and a laugh he caught himself describing as 'musical'
he has to talk to you
...he has no idea how to do that
leo settles on observing, for now
i feel like he's more of a wallflower at parties so he's content to see you in the center and convincing himself he's not falling in love at first sight
at some point he loses you and panics slightly
'where's the pretty boy gone?? he's vanished jason help where's he gone'
eventually he makes his way outside and sees you helping a very drunk athena kid who's mumbling about alcohol and science and experiments
now he's away from the volume of the party he can actually hear you
your voice is smooth and rich and a little bit intoxicating
you seem almost unaffected by the alcohol he's seen you consume
a handy side effect of being the kid of the god of wine, leo guesses
he watches you take care of the athena kid
you pat their back, holding back hair as they throw up and summon a bottle of water as you pass them off to a sober sibling with a request to let you know how they're doing the next day
leo is enamoured by your caring actions and finds himself wishing it was him throwing up if it meant he got to hear you speak softly that close
he almost doesn't realise you're walking towards him until you're leaning against the wall next to him
'nice night'
leo isn't sure how to respond now that he can see you so close
'...sure, stars are pretty'
you chuckle and leo does his best not to collapse
'you were at the party, right? sticking to the wall- not much for parties?'
leo shakes his head, stuffing his hands in his pockets to not start fiddling with anything and everything
'nah- i mean i like them, they're fun, just not really one for drinking- not that it's bad!'
he panics again slightly at the idea that you might be offended by someone not drinking
you shrug
'it's cool, not everyone likes getting drunk'
you smile at him, looking back up to the stars
'so, which constellation is your favourite?'
'...huh?'
you nudge him slightly and leo miraculously manages to not set on fire
'well you don't look like you wanna go back to the party and i'm not gonna leave you out here, so which set of stars is the best?'
leo's heart melts
one of the party kids would miss the party for him?
he starts stumbling over constellations he knows and clings to your every word
y'know if getting drunk felt like this then he wouldn't mind it half as much
it's only when he physically feels himself getting dizzy and his words start slurring that he realises it actually does feel like he's tipsy
you notice when he reaches for you to steady himself
'oh shit, that's my bad honey, when i've had a bit to drink it kinda... seeps into my aura, i guess? starts affecting people, i should stand a bit further away-'
leo absolutely stops listening, stuck on you calling him 'honey'
he tunes back in when you mention moving away and all he knows is that is not allowed right now
'mm no no it's fine i can deal with it i like talking to you don't move away'
you laugh at his honesty, but it was kind of expected
alcohol brings out sober thoughts, you guess
'well good, didn't really want to move away anyway'
leo looks confused, and you grin at his frankly adorable expression
'wait what? you don't wanna move? you wanna... what, stay with me?'
you laugh again and leo swears he could drink it like smooth whiskey
there's the smallest glint of insanity in your eyes, just a little too wide, a little too intense
leo finds he doesn't mind, he'll take the madness with the merlot
wow he didn't know he could be so eloquent
'yeah, i wanna stay and talk to you, hun. but you look like you're about to fall down- which cabin is yours?'
leo shakes his head, trying to remember
'it's hepasustsus, no, hephesisatus...'
'okay, don't hurt yourself, hephaestus cabin, let's go'
you didn't mean to get him so aura-drunk, you swear, but he'd looked at you with such earnesty like you'd hung the stars in the sky
the completely sober, knowledgable part of you knows that this wasn't all him, you tended to have a bit of an odd, obsessive effect on people
as you help him to his cabin and basically put him to bed, you hope to the gods that he'd remember the cute boy he met tomorrow
-----------------------------------
i really hope you enjoyed, i liked writing a dionysus kid lol thank you for requesting!

Hi do you think Bobby will drink again and do you think Athena will be there for him? And do you think theyâre be alright in s6 if we get one? Not sure if these questions have been asked already, if so Iâm truly sorryâŚ
Hey Nonnies
I short yes I do think Bobby will start drinking again - I think we might see him struggling not to in 5x18, but ultimately being successful and managing to stay sober, but I think if the rumoured cruise ship accident happens - that will be what pushes him over the edge in S6. While I would love for them to explore the actual struggle to remain sober and not drink with Bobby, because it would be interesting to explore that aspect of alcoholism, I think they will go with him returning to drinking.
As for the Athena of it all - it depends on how much Bobby hides it from her - I mean she will be supportive of him and be there for him when she finds out, but it will be interesting to see how long it takes. Bathena have come a long way from 4x13 and 14 - they are in a much better place with their relationship and Bobby has been so supportive towards Athena and her own struggles - the writers have been making sure to show us just how much they are growing together as a couple - its been beautiful to watch. So Bobbys battle for sobriety will only strengthen their relationship in the long run That isn't to say it isn't going to be hard and get ugly at times, but in the end it will bring them closer together- Athena will be Bobbys rock I am sure, and I think we will see May and Harry rally round him and support him in an amazing way - they are older than Brooke and Bobby jr and so will be better able to give him additional support. I do thinkAthena will have to stop drinking at home for the foreseeable though - they have been very blatant in showing her drinking in front of Bobby this season!
Of coursse the firefam as a whole will be there to support Bobby. But I do think about how a relapse is going to pay out in relation to the higher ups - they were all but ready to fire Bobby at the end of season 2 when his past came up - d owe think they will be as supportive this time round as his St Pauls higher ups were the first time?
One of the things 911 always does, and does so well, is bring all the members of the firefam back to a good place by the end of each season - it might not be a completed journey, and the good pace might not be the place they would like to be (such as Buck at the end of season 2 going into season 3) but it is always a place from which they can move forward and find happiness. So yes I think Bathena will ultimately be ok at the end of season 6, its just going to be a bumpy road to get there!

Rocket Queen
0.7: Unwanted Apology
Henley's P.O.V
It's been two days since that hectic night. Madeline and I managed to get home just before sunrise with the help of Duff and Steven. Luckily, they had a car and offered to give us a lift. Honestly, I don't know how it would've went if they hadn't gave us a ride.
Apparently, Steven gave Madeline his number. She's been calling him nonstop. The only reason I know that is because Jake calls me and complains about it.
"I don't know who she's talking to but it's getting annoying!" Jake told me last night.
I just laughed at him and told him to go to bed. We had school today, so yay. A fucking Monday. To be completely honest, I forgot about the threat that Hyde imposes.
That was, until Hyde came up to me after school, knocking me out of my thoughts from the past few days.
"Hello, Henley," Hyde says, venom in his voice.
I turn around, seeing how bad Hyde's face looks. I cringe at the sight. His face is swollen and purple with bruises everywhere. Damn, Duff sure did do a number on him.
"Hey," I say nervously. God, what does he want with me?
"I haven't seen you since the other night," He says, leaning against the locker behind him. "Tell me, how's your lover boy?"
I blush as I realize he's talking about Duff. His hazel eyes pop into my mind. I really want to see him again. "Uh, he's fine. You gave him a good scratch on his head."
Hyde laughs. "Good. The fucker deserved it."
I try my best to not let my anger flare up. "Duff didn't deserve any of that. I did. It was my fault. Besides, you right about all of it anyway."
Hyde huffs, looking down at his feet. "No I wasn't. I was already drunk and took out the frustration I had on you. You were right about Stephanie. I don't know why I went out with her anyway."
I laugh. "Cause you were lonely?"
"That had to have been it," He responds.
We both laugh for a few moments before growing quiet again.
"I actually came over here to apologize."
I sigh, looking at him skeptically. "I dunno, Hyde."
"I didn't mean any of that. I really did that. If anything, you're the most amazing girl I've ever met," Hyde explains, trying to get me to forgive his harsh words.
"Des mots saouls, des pensees sobres," I respond, grabbing the rest of my books from my locker.
"What?" Hyde laughs, shaking his head. "I didn't know you spoke Spanish."
I laugh, shutting the locker door. "For one, it's French. And it means, "Drunk words, sober thoughts"."
"And what exactly does that mean?"
I sigh, clutching my books to my chest. I fake a smile at him. "It means, yeah, you might have been drunk, but you said those words because of the liquid courage. It gave you the balls to say it to my face. I'm sure you thought all of that about me. And I don't blame you." I sigh, looking down at my shoes. "It's all true." My eyes snap back up at him. I narrow my eyes. "You may have been right but that in no way means I forgive you."
I walk away from Hyde, feeling a headache form. In a way I wish that Friday night never happened. But then again, Madeline never would've met Steven. She really likes him. More than she's ever liked a guy before.
As I walk through the halls, I see my favorite pair of siblings plus Evangeline. Madeline's eyes are wide with happiness as she animatedly talks to Eva about something. I smile at everyone as I stand next to Jake. Madeline is telling Eva all about this awesome outfit she got last week. She's beyond excited about it, which is very peculiar. She's never this happy about clothes. I mean, neither am I unless it's a new Motley Crue shirt that Tommy sent me.
"Hey, Henley," Jake says from next to me, a huge smile on his face.
"Hello, Jacob," I respond formally, causing a smile to appear on his face.
He's quiet for a moment, listening to his sister's high pitched squealing about the perfect shoes she found before tuning her out. "What're you doing tonight?"
"Uh, well, I was probably gonna phone my best friend from L.A. Why?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to hang out or something?" He takes a glance at his sister who's full attention is now on us. "Just us?"
I open my mouth to answer, but Madeline screeches the answer for me.
"She can't!"
"I can't?"
"Yes! We have plans tonight, remember!" She responds, her eyebrows raising. She mouths the word "Stevie" to me without her brother or Eva noticing somehow.
I nod my head, understanding flooding my features. "That's right. Yeah we got plans. Maybe some other time though?"
"Oh," Jake says, looking rather put out. "Yeah, that's fine."
The bell rings, signaling the end of school. Madeline grabs my hand, pulling me out the front doors of this piss poor school. The girl is so happy she's nearly skipping after she links her arm with mine. I laugh at her, shaking my head. This is probably the happiest I've seen her. Stevie must be treating her right.
"So, how's you and 'Stevie" doing?" I ask, nudging her lightly in the ribs.
She giggles a bit at the sound of her new guy's name. "We're doin' awesome. In fact, we have a date tonight."
"Okay, that's nice and all. Don't take this the wrong way, but what does this have to do with me?"
"Because, Duff's tagging along so you are too," She responds, a smile still painted on her cherry red lips.
I laugh, side eyeing her. "When the hell was my Monday night decided?"
"Last night when me and Stevie made the plans," She says, shrugging her shoulders like she didn't just throw me into a situation I probably didn't want to be in.
"Thanks for telling me only hours before we're going out," I say, sarcasm thick in my voice.
"You're welcome," Madeline says, not phased at all. She takes a look at the watch that sits on her wrist. "We have an hour to get ready. You definitely aren't goin' out wearing that."
I look down at my outfit, instantly feeling offended. I'm wearing the newest concert shirt that Tommy sent me, my ripped up blue skinny jeans, worn out combat boots, and an oversized bomber jacket that I'm positive was Tommy's. I used to kinda steal his clothes when I'd go over to his place. What can I say? I like oversized things. Back to the point, I think I look great today.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It's just, that's not really something you'd wear on a date."
I scoff. "This isn't my date."
Madeline smiles, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Don't act like you don't like Duff."
"'Like' as in I only spent one night with the guy, then yeah sure. I like Duff," I scoff, rolling my eyes. "I barely met him."
"I barely met Stevie," She says, nudging me.
I sigh. "That's cause you don't have problems opening up to people like I do."
"Maybe Duff could change that for you."
I smile at her hopefulness. Between the two of us, she's always been the more optimistic. No matter what she's always got her eyes set on the bright side. Completely opposite of me. I've always been very pessimistic. I'm always skeptical with everything. Hell, I was even skeptical when Madeline wanted to be friends with me. I still don't let her in on parts of my life-such as Athena and Tommy-but I have let her in on a lot. I'm constantly looking at the worst possible outcome. My mom claims that it's because of how I dress. I know for a fact that's bullshit because Tommy nearly dresses the same as me and he's the happiest person I know. Er-well- I guess I should say goofiest.
"Maybe," I say, for once letting myself feel a little bit of hope. Maybe he will be able to change that for me. I just have to be willing to take that leap.
"Anyways!" Madeline exclaims, unlinking our arms. She grabs my hand and starts to almost run, pulling me along behind her. "We have some getting ready to do!"
I laugh, letting her pull me down the empty street. I guess this date can't be that bad.
Just be yourself. Don't let him believe you're something you're not.
Although, after that scary judge of character that night in the bathroom, I think he might already know everything about me.
