Jay's Tales of Destiny Pitch

First of all, Tales of Destiny for PS1 and Tales of Destiny Director's Cut for PS2 are fundamentally different games with two similar canons. The most obvious differences are with Leon, so we'll get back to that in a second

WHY DESTINY IS COOL AND AWESOME

Lovely cast!

Our main character Stahn is a very lovable idiot, he wants to help everyone and continuously reaches out to and believes the best of ppl. Maybe his kindness could be considered naive, but like. When you can believe in ppl and try to be friends with them no matter how prickly? C'mon now

Variety of dynamic characters with their own little arcs throughout the story!! These are much more fleshed out in the Director's Cut, but still present in PS1

Swordians

The consciousness of their previous wielder copied into a powerful sword!! A companion quite literally at your side :D they're pretty much their own characters, especially in DC

Don't worry abt the main plot. Like yeah the bad guys stole the eye of god (Atamoni in eng localization) which could potentially be a super dangerous tool/weapon that was originally sealed away after that last War(tm) that's distant history or whatever but Look at the little guys experiencing various agonies :33

The Swordians are also relics from the big history war but shhh

LEON

Your first meeting with him is when he kicks your ass during a battle and then arrests you

Only joins the party bc he's technically still your jailer keeping an eye on everyone while you go do a quest for the king

Brooding emo boy with daddy issues. No he will NOT be friends with you. Stop that!! (Bit of a tsundere lol but only bc of his uhh various issues :3)

Non-spoilery differences between PS1 and DC:

Since Director's Cut offers a character selection at the beginning of the game (similar to Xillia) you can either play the regular game from Stahn's POV (still changed from PS1) or you can follow Leon, but Leon's side is moreso for a deeper look into his character after playing Stahn's side, since Leon isn't always with the party

Leon's and Stahn's characters in particular are handled a little differently. Stahn's personality and history are a little different, but imo not really noticeably. Leon's relationships with the party are less.. distant? There's more explicit showcasing maybe. Especially with how his final separation from the party plays out a lot differently, and it changes/makes more obvious some aspects of his character (positively imo), but also leaves his fate more ambiguous than in PS1

Overall, similar to how I feel abt Zesty, I think the characters really bring these games to life!! Destiny PS1 I liked more for its scenery, dungeon design, and puzzles, while DC I enjoyed for its character depth via skits and cutscenes and its battle system

If you can tell I'm biased toward Stahn and Leon,, yeahhh but I do enjoy other characters like Rutee (heroine) and Philia as well ✨✨

Rutee especially is very relevant to some of my Thoughts since she's one of the more pivotal characters, being the heroine and all

Anyway!! I hope that pitch was okay lmao there's more I could probably say if I could actually remember the games better but it's been like a year since I played Destiny PS1 and months since I finished DC ;w;

Observable features

1 window (for ventilation?) (the window's sprites also aren't aligned correctly and allows you to see through the cracks) You can also examine the back of the house from the outside for an uninteresting message about seeing the bathroom.

2 fairly large bottles of something

2 wash cloths (or perhaps the one on top is a bar of soap)

2 folded towels

2 hanging towels (with the usual Tales green stripe)

Water heater? with a pipe leading from the wall (the only thing we see outside is a well, which has nothing visibly attached to it and is pretty detached from the house)

Fairly large and deep wooden bath that could comfortably fit more than 1 person

Washtub and stool implies that the bath might only be meant for soaking, not washing

There is no drainage system seen on the floor or in the bath, though (not even on the obscured side of the bath's sprite)

If you examine the washtub, you'll obtain an old (loser) ice candy stick, implying that Lilith or Thomas go to Neuestadt sometimes and get ice candy while they're there

Bath mat

An unseen but clearly active light source in the bath's room that focuses on the dividing wall

Sink

Medicine cabinet

Hanging hand towel

Bench-type toilet that is installed separately from the surrounding bench pieces, and may not be a flushing type

TOD's level of technology is difficult to grasp. They have stuff and architecture from a lot of different centuries. In reality, when things were invented versus when they became common across most households are also very different dates, so that's another thing to think about. But uh. Yay, indoor plumbing of some level is common enough that even old-fashioned family homes in farming villages have it.

Extra, useless info: While recovering the Eye of Atamoni, you're only able to visit Lienea on Leon's Side. If you try on Stahn's side, Leon will stop you when you wander too far away from Neuestadt. If Leon isn't in the party, Stahn won't let you leave the city.

If anyone wants other rooms done, I'll try.

Oh, I also got an actual shot of the bathroom in the manor. I'll add it to its post. An observation on it relevant to the Aileron bathroom, though... they bothered to include (unseen) toilet paper in the Aileron bathroom, but not the Gilchrist one lol

Second of all - I don't really think my anatomy and proportions are THAT good. I know that I have mistakes in my art, but I don't really know for to fix them. Sorry if you wanted a tutorial or something like that, but I really don't know how to do it and I think I don't have enough skill for that. Just keep practising and don't give up! ^^

A traveling priest with an interest in philantropy, then? That wasn't common by any means, but he did know some from the Order of Atamoni who would embark on such journeys. It's the same group of people who would go to Calvalese to spread news of their faith — not that they've made much progress in that regard. It's not really any of Leon's business, though, with his overall disinterest in the religion.

Still, these are good intentions. And although their little group had been separated for a while now, Leon still found himself suddenly struck by the ridiculous thought that if Philia were here right now, she'd probably want to escort a fellow priest to a safer place, and then Stahn would agree with her, and—

Ugh. Maybe those fools had rubbed off of him more than he thought. But, even so...

"In that case, I will escort you out of this forest." Leon was making his own way out anyways, so it's not a huge inconvenience. "There's been an increase of monster activity in this area. Civilians shouldn't be wandering around alone."

this is Onitsuka Kenzo in his 20s. his hero name is Atamoni. (あたもに; meaning boss 頭 of the onis 鬼)

he is the father of Hanabi and Aihi. he married Kaori, Aihi’s mother, and had an affair with Fuki, Hanabi’s mother.

he was very famous about 10 years ago, and he is still loved by middle aged and elderly citizens. he is retired, but you still see him on TV. he now owns a izakaya franchise called Onipapa (オニパパ).

he seems to be very cheerful and well mannered, but inside he can be selfish and indecisive, and scared of disappointing people.

Eye of Atamoni in Tales of Destiny.

Fun fact: Atamoni is a Palindrome for Series Designer (well she is one of the main ones who does almost all character designs) Mutsumi Inomata.

Yep, so the name came from the main designer for Destiny.

They literally just flipped her surname backwards and named it that.

Multiple years and many playthroughs and I never noticed it before. It's a cool fun fact to know, though.

PERSONAL/FAVORITE HAZBIN HOTEL HEADCANONS

Alastor wears silky, old man, button-up pajamas to bed (you know the ones I'm talking about).

Angel Dust has a hidden stash of drugs in his hotel room that only Niffty (who found them while cleaning his room) and Cherri Bomb know about.

Niffty calls Angel Dust, "Miss Angel".

Alastor's room was placed right next door to Angel's, but quickly requested to be moved the day after for "unspecified reasons".

Husk made a deal with Alastor, which is why he didn't put up much of fight when Alastor beckoned him- because he didn't have a choice either way.

Alastor and Lucifer are really good friends.

Vaggie is very fond of leopard-print.

Since Alastor doesn't like modern technology too much, he doesn't own or carry a cell/hellphone. Instead, the only way to contact him is to physically touch an old radio and speak through it.

Charlie once met Alastor before he became the Radio Demon, but only Alastor remembers. This is the real reason why he wanted to help- to return the favor towards Charlie for helping him when he first arrived in Hell.

Another headcanon for Alastor's real intent to assist with the hotel is to get into Heaven to visit his mother, who he misses greatly.

Niffty had a twin-sister when she was alive.

Alastor is physically unable to frown.

Husk has a rather large collection of bottle-caps from different types of alcohol.

If Charlie hasn't been born in Hell, she would have made it into Heaven. But even then, she would still want to redeem demons.

Alastor has hooves and a tail. He has trouble balancing on his hooves, especially on wooden floors. This is why he wears shoes, which have built-in weights.

Husk hates baths, and Niffty is usually the one who (forcefully) bathes him.

Angel is dyslexic and also hates reading. His handwriting is sloppy, too.

Rosie is like a second mother to Alastor.

Valentino smells like lavender, and Angel Dust has grown to hate the scent.

Alastor always writes in cursive- he does it to piss off Angel.

Charlie has never told a lie in her life.

Angel Dust uses all pronouns.

Vaggie calls Charlie "Hun'" sometimes.

Angel Dust hesitantly makes a deal and sells his soul to Alastor, who promises to protect him from Valentino.

I finally had time to play more Destiny DC today but LO AND BEHOLD I HAD TO STOP MYSELF BC STAHN AND LEON'S CONVERSATION AFTER WE BROUGHT BACK THE EYE OF ATAMONI MADE ME WANNA WRITE FIC SO BAD

so anyway. Doing that. I really want to make Leon experience Physical Affection(™) so I'm upgrading his feelings from tsundere "FINE we can be friends.. anyway..." To still tsun tsun but now he's a touch starved loser and Stahn has kept getting under his skin in unexpected ways and hey.. I bet his hugs would... be comfy.... I've been flip-flopping on exactly what else I wanna do with this but I did just accidentally write like 700 words that have literally only covered the in-game convo (slightly adjusted) SO LIKE. Lots of [ Destiny Star ] sketches! Jade gives a quick demonstration of the ‘space folding’ tech he’s been working on developing. 

Jade, Luke, and Ion discuss secret origins. Clearly they are cut out to be superheroes. 

There are rough sketches of two special weapons- a sword carried by Luke, and a spear carried by Jade.  They have... unique properties. 

Rutee is wondering why the hell I still don’t have a design hammered out for her yet.

Then, a flashback to one of Peony’s worst memories (which Jade cannot remember at all).

Finally, the end of the line, and the point that the entire group endeavor is leading to:

The Eye of Atamoni, which has been significantly beefed up, and so has its corresponding threat/eldritch horror level.
