man, it sucks when you find a new artist/blog that you really like and then you find out who they really are when they post stuff like this. sad :(

Y’know Persimmon, I have family living in a wartorn country too (Venezuela) that nobody seems to know of/care about, and you don’t see me yelling and swearing at people about it. People don’t make those posts about caring for yourself despite horrible things happening around the globe because they’re apathetic to the plight of others. It’s not about racism, either. Idk why you’re choosing to make this into an issue about race when that has nothing to do with it. Plenty of people still post about Palestine all the time. Plenty of people in this site are POC and have families in or around the war zone who are suffering, just like you and your family. Even others who are white (or at least not Middle Eastern) and have no stake in this issue still care, like I do, because nobody should have to suffer the way Palestinians are suffering right now. I promise people of all kinds care, even if it doesn’t seem like it.

The real issue here is: it’s simply impossible to care about every single bad thing going on around the globe all the time. Ever heard of empathy fatigue? Even reading all the horrible headlines without looking at harrowing footage takes a toll on people’s mental health. If you can’t do much to change the outcome, forcing yourself to keep up with all the bad things in the world is exhausting and unhelpful/useless.

It also has to do with how much direct action people can take to fix the issue. A lot of people on this site live in the UK, so they are able to enact some change by voting and such. But not many people here have the power to change what is happening in Palestine except by donating or spreading the word (and a lot of us are too poor to donate). If we could fix it, we would. But that isn’t possible. So all we can do is take care of ourselves as we try to help in whatever small way we can. And it isn’t a bad thing to be a bit “selfish” and focus on caring for your own mental health before anything else. I think you could use a bit more of that self-care yourself tbh.

The point is, you’re attacking the wrong enemy. Obviously, racism exists online and offline, and it is easier for people to care about things that directly impact/relate to them, I won’t deny that. But those people making “take care of yourself” posts in regards to not doom scrolling on certain global issues are not being racist. That’s absurd. Other people care about the issues and people suffering from them that you care about, regardless of their race, even if you can’t see it.

I understand why you’re upset. I would be too if I were you. And again, I understand your and your family’s struggle. I have family in Venezuela who are starving and living in constantly fear under Maduro’s regime. They often do not have access to basic food, water, electricity, and medicine. They are afraid to walk to school or work for fear of being killed in the streets and people looting the clothes and groceries off their bodies. They are afraid to say anything negative about the government, because they could be listening and reading their calls and messages, and if they are caught, they would be kidnapped and tortured to death. And my mother and I cannot even save them because we live in the USA, and under our current hostile and xenophobic administration, they will likely be sent off to a concentration camp in El Salvador if they try to immigrate here.

I never see any posts raising awareness or charity money for Venezuelans. And of course that makes me sad and angry. But this is based on a lack of information and not necessarily racism. I know if others knew about this problem, they would care. And so I talk to them about it, honestly, factually, and without judgement. And I also understand people’s need to back away from the issues for a little bit and care for their own mental health. Whereas making condescending posts and lashing out at people who also have valid points (even if they misunderstood the meaning of your post) is not helping anyone nor accomplishing anything. It just makes you look like an asshole. I hope you reflect on this and act appropriately in the future, because this kind of behavior is very disheartening to see. I truly admire your artwork and have empathy for you and your family’s struggles (immediate and extended).

I could always count on 911 being the type of show that doesn’t drop its storylines. There has been stuff that’s been called back that I didn’t expect to be called back, but the difference is is that back then there are some sort of conclusion? Even if there wasn’t closure, it was sort of concluded in that arc of that makes sense? Hen cheating on Karen. Karen finally being able to tell Eva (Ava forgot her name) that shes always afraid of her disrupting their lives. Athena and finally being able to find the person that killed her fiancé. Like I know this show can properly pick strings back up but when they pick the strings they were at least solid. Do I have too much hope that they’ll revisit the “you think I’m in love with Eddie”? Yea sure but any string they grab will be so flimsy. They couldn’t add something at all to the finale if that’s where they’re taking it?

yeah. and well, i mean the issue is tim and the way he runs this show. and that needs to change. or he needs to take a step back and hand the reins over. because his vision (if we can even call it that) is directly at odds with what people want. and i'm not just talking about buddie. but just, in general. the GA has been just as unhappy with his "creative decisions" as the rest of us. bobby being #1 on that list. but also, eddie and christopher being gone and the lack of normal emergencies have come up in the facebook comments a lot. he's lost what the heart of the show is. and, it's not that that heart is gone completely, it's that he doesn't seem to care to find it again in any real way. we get glimpses of it that ultimately come to nothing. and a lot of the issue is that tim doesn't plan anything. he scraps and changes things last minute, it's literally an in-joke with cast and crew that they have no idea what's going on (script tbd cocktail 😭) because they don't. they get scripts mere days, or the day before shooting. which are insane conditions to work under. he killed bobby off on a whim, even though peter hadn't expressed any interest to leave. ryan wasn't even sure whether he'd be coming back. and all of this SHOWS on-screen. because he drops threads to pick up other ones, to only then drop those and do the same. and on and on and on. and it's frustrating because we know the show CAN be good, the heart IS still there. like, the shake-up the show needed was NOT killing off bobby nash. it was better planning, it was committing to the stories you're telling, it was actually CARING about the characters. and the thing is, there are actually some really good writers on this team that DO care, and it shows in some of the episodes. that's where the heart still is. tim either needs to start listening to people other than himself or take a step back. and well, i do actually have hope for season 9. especially after the mass backlash from all corners over the past few weeks. that things could change for the better. and i'm not going to spend the whole summer dooming. i still love these characters and i still believe that many people involved in the show do too, and that they can come back from this. but things DO need to change.

This is the final frontier of genocide.

Been thinking about my "Not All There" AU again. Basically, the idea that the Lazarus Pit fixed everything BUT Jason's memories (I'm going with the explanation that memories are complex and even magic has a hard time with it). But, Jason still returns to Gotham as the Red Hood, but he's not as overtly antagonistic. Instead, he likes to watch the Bats.

Here's what I had written:

He didn’t understand why he continued to watch them. Every time he saw the Bat or one of his Birds, anger seared through his very being, but it was always followed by a numbing mix of sorrow, pain, and loneliness. The emotions tended to set off nightmares and memories so fragmented they did little more than distract him. Yet, there had to be a reason those feelings existed. Perhaps he once knew them, or maybe they were somehow directly related to how he ended up half-way across the world in the care of a woman who seemed to know his past. She told him he’d been unavenged, but never provided further details. Perhaps he did know her once. Or maybe he just had a talent for reading people, but he knew she would not harm him, even if she sent him all over the world to train how to fight and kill. And once he seemed to be ready, she sent him to Gotham. She told him his enemy still hurt the people he once tried to protect, and that the protectors of the city continued to allow that to happen. He didn’t know who that enemy was, but it felt like coming home when he stepped foot into Gotham. Somehow, he knew her streets and her people. And he knew things had only gotten worse. How he knew, he had no idea, but something told him it was true. So after setting himself up a safe house, he took time to watch and learn before he acted. The Bat claimed he protected the city, but the cries of the people constantly hurt by his temporary measures fell on deaf ears. The people were tired and scared. They wanted, needed, something different. So, he decided to be that difference. … “B, our stalker showed up again,” Dick stated as he caught sight of the man who wore a red helmet on a nearby building as he helped Bruce disarm one of the sloppiest put together bombs he’d ever seen. Bruce grunted in understanding as he continued his work. “Any sign of movement?” “No… wait, he’s tilted his head.” He turned just in time to catch Bruce’s expression harden which made him smile. Teasing Bruce when he was being a hard ass was always worth it. But it was strange. The man in the helmet tended to just watch them, especially Bruce. When they first spotted him, due to lighting and stature, there were concerns it might have been Deathstroke. It wouldn’t have been surprising due to the sheer amount of run ins they had with him over the years. However, they quickly realized that his behavior didn’t line up with the mercenary’s. There were never any attempts at approaching them. Instead, he just watched from a nearby location, almost as if he was curious about what they were doing. It made all of them uneasy as they had no idea who he was or what he was doing. What they could see of his gear suggested he’d been well trained, and the one time they chased after him, he was one step ahead of them the entire time before vanishing into the shadows. Dick was dead set figuring him out. “Do you have this? I’d like to see if I can have a chat with our stalker.” “Don’t take any unnecessary risks,” Bruce responded, not looking up from his work. Gripping his heart, he made a show of being wounded. “Me? I would never.” Years ago, it would have at least made Bruce smile, but the man had lost most of his humor when Jason died. But it still got a reaction out of Bruce via a sigh, and for now, that was good enough.

Is it just me wishing the sunday - aventiorine voice lines carried more hostility? Like if someone took me/my partner on a deadly acid trip I would not be so "forgive and forget"about it, and Aventurine especially is way way less benevolent than me lol

I can definitely see why people were annoyed by the voice lines being pretty easygoing between everyone from the Penacony cast and Sunday, but I think that's less a product of "Aventurine already forgave Sunday" and more a meta decision: Voice lines don't (usually) change over time, so if they gave Aventurine and Ratio really nasty voice lines towards Sunday, it might come across as a bit odd for them to later team up with the Astral Express (including Sunday) without issue. The lines we have in-game probably represent the fact that the devs knew in advance that Sunday's allegiances would be changing and that he'd become a "good guy," so the voice lines needed to be soft enough to justify accepting him in the future.

I also think there's somewhat of a bent in the fandom to see Aventurine as a vengeful person (a lot of people still seem to be convinced that he hates the IPC and is going to betray them, for example), but we're not really given much confirmation in-game that he is that vengeful in the first place.

In his flashbacks as a kid, he mentions hating the Katicans and not understanding why they would target the Avgins, but he hasn't ever made any efforts to directly "pay them back" for what they did, nor have we ever heard him saying that the Katicans should face genocide or karmic retribution for their actions.

While he was a slave, he clearly despised the slave owner, but instead of being overtly aggressive and fighting for his freedom, he attempts to bargain his way up the ladder by going along with his master's wish for wealth--if the slave master had actually given Aventurine the 30 tanbas, I think that Aventurine would probably not have killed him; he would likely have made his master filthy rich, all while working himself into a position of freedom using the "I'm your partner in business, right? You need me!" angle until he could finally pull the rug out from under the master entirely and walk away a wealthy, free man. At the very least, it's implied that Aventurine murdered his master largely because he was pushed so far beyond what a human being could tolerate, rather than Aventurine just being particularly murderous by nature.

Even with the IPC, although Aventurine has agreed to do... something... with Boothill, we're never given any indication that Aventurine applies the logic "The IPC were the ones responsible for what happened to the Avgins" to all of the IPC. He may not be best friends with all of his colleagues in the Stonehearts, but he clearly gets along well with Topaz and Jade and doesn't seem to have any issues pursuing the IPC's missions overall--we never hear him struggle with the idea of taking back Penacony for the IPC, for example. He does not remotely seem to care about the Penaconians' freedoms being taken away lol.

I could easily be proven wrong in the future, but at least as far as we've currently been shown, my perception is that Aventurine is an extremely pragmatic person, to the point that he might see holding grudges as a detriment to himself.

The phrase that comes to mind is: "Today's enemies might be tomorrow's allies."

If you choose to hold on to animosity, you might miss an opportunity to use someone else to your advantage--and therefore you might lose the opportunity to get ahead of others entirely.

Aventurine strikes me as a character whose actions center ferociously on his own survival, his definition of accomplishment, and his own ability to "come out on top"--even if he wants to use his achievements to help his people and repay those who aided him, he needs to first experience success to be able to help others. Aventurine is extremely shrewd, extremely observant, and extremely cunning--a single glance is all it takes for him to figure out how to use the world, the tools, and the people around him to achieve his goals.

Personally, I would imagine he's quite willing to cozy up to people who've wronged him in the past--so long as they might still prove beneficial to him in the future.

Ok I mean this in the kindest way possible but… actors lie in interviews (think abbot elementary). They’re just for die-hard fan engagement as the only people looking for these interviews are these die hard fans - they’re not going to spoil anything, and this is probably the fourth time Ryan has called buddie “a straight and gay guy best friend no homo brothers” - if the other times didn’t make you close you shouldn’t let this time do it too!

We’re closer than ever to having buddie go canon - I mean even two seasons ago we couldn’t have dreamed of buck being bi IN CANON and directly called out for being in love with Eddie. That’s what’s happening in the show. They’re gonna have to resolve it somehow. No I don’t think they’ll go canon next ep but I am so sure, so so sure we’ll be given something to work with. All signs point to slow burn. Buck came out last season, he got accused of being into Eddie this season, we might not actually get any more major developments until next season.

Also. Leaving a fandom because a ship doesn’t go canon? You’ll miss out on the wonderful fanart and fanfiction and stuff and hey what if it DOES go canon? What if it takes till season 9?

I'm not gonna leave the fandom, I love all the characters and I'll be here no matter what, watching the show each week etc. I think I just need to put the 'buddie' chew toy down for a while.

I am a fandom senior citizen and was there for the Sherlock/SGA/House MD/Supernatural/Merlin queerbait days of:

"We know these characters tick every box of being in a relationship and genuinely love each other, would die for each other, can't imagine their lives without the other etc etc... but why would you want them to date? Don't be weird. They're like siblings!" Etc etc.

And I'm...just. so. tired.

911 has been admittedly better in that at least the actors/creators acknowledge that yeah, there's serious chemistry between Buck and Eddie, we see what you see and you're not crazy for seeing it. Heck, we made Buck Bisexual because it just made sense with the way we were writing it.

Yet they still randomly pull the 'but that's not where the story is going' card, while actively feeding into a romance narrative.

Buck ended up romantically fixating on a man for the first time in his life and it was a guy he was jealous of because he was spending so much time with Eddie. Tommy seemed annoyed when Buck chose time with Eddie over him. Tommy is shown to be a bit of a third wheel with Buck and Eddie in the room. Buck acts as a co-parent to Chris. He's Chris' next of kin. Bucks boyfriend admits he broke it off because he was intimidated by Eddie as a rival. Buck spirals for weeks about Eddie leaving and ends up moving into his house... At this point if no Buck/Eddie they are writing an arc that goes nowhere and it's so frustrating to hear interviews where they're like 'nah but not really haha'. It feels like being gaslit.

Tim Minear referring to the moment Tommy mentioned Eddie being competition as 'touching the third rail' really stuck in my head. Touching the third rail, as in, to accidentally touch the thing that will kill you. I'm starting to think he believes that canon Buddie would end the show or drive it into the ground. And it could be as simple as not wanting to deliver on a 'will they/won't they' because so many other shows have finally gone there and it tanked the ratings because people wanted to see couples declare their love and make big sweeping dramatic gestures, not the day to day relationship stuff once all feelings are known and the tension dissipates.

At this point the show is ending it's eighth and entering it's ninth season. They don't need to make Buddie canon to keep people watching. They just need us on the hook enough so that we don't tune out.

Sorry this turned into a rant. Let's call this a safe space vent and hey, if things turn out different I will be the first one here celebrating with you all and admitting that my cynicism was wrong and good things can still happen and a procedural tv show can still surprise me.

In the meantime can I just say thankyou to all the buddie fans out there who are stronger than me? Also worth noting that the FAA has been in a crisis of leadership for several years now. Biden was engaging in back to back firings of FAA administrators while he was in office. it was quite shameful in certain circles; apparently the FAA was completely unable to handle the rollout of 5G around airports. actually iirc even just one airport. this despite the fact the Europe had handled it so well they were making 5g mandatory on planes.

It was a fiasco.

On the space side: Musk obviously doesn't have the best interests of the industry at heart but it has far from the only one who felt the FAA was failing launch providers and needed an overhaul in how it handled rocket launche. FAA heads, industry leaders, consultancies, the USSF, congress, the Biden Whitehouse: everyone has agreed for a while that the FAA isn't quite fit for purpose in launch oversight right now.

I'm reading A Lonely Place of Dying and Alfred latching immediately onto Tim is NASTY work. Tim shows up and is like "I never aimed to be Robin! I mean I did karate my whole life to emulate Robin and just so happen to have sought you out and grabbed this costume in my size out from that case and really you should be calling me Robin just for now and let me come with you as Robin but I never dreamed it would specifically be ME being Robin. You have a lovely house and home btw :) Now go back to being 10." And Dick's understandably like "No I am a grown man now who are you" and Bruce is not here for this one, but later on is like "You aren't Robin, you're some kid dressed up like my dead son." But Alfred?

IMMEDIATELY Alfred is implying Dick was trying to subtly ask Tim to be Robin (simply not true in in NTT 61, when the implication is made, although he changes his mind in Batman 442) and that Bruce should be grateful for this young man's profound bravery and immense natural skill and maybe show him a few pointers or something idk we'll see :) Like let's be clear, the idea that Tim didn't want to be Robin is simply not part of this story outside of like two lines of dialogue where he's like "oh I didn't consider it could be me!" after which he immediately goes "Wow so you ARE gonna let me be Robin right?" the second he sees the opportunity. The guy essentially makes himself Robin once Dick makes it clear he isn't gonna be. Dick tells Tim nobody should be at first (until he changes his mind) but is ignored because Tim doesn't get why and goes with what he understands, his own stance.

I'm of the opinion that the whole "Tim understands that being Robin is an arduous task full of suffering from the start and chooses to bravely yet sadly martyr himself for the cause" thing I see sometimes is strongly disproven, at least in the beginning of his Robin career, by his "Batman NEEDS a Robin (to love and care for and to watch out for him in return :) )" line of reasoning, his subsequent willingness for Anybody to be Robin whether or not it was him (unless he was consciously okay with other children suffering for his benefit which I find really hard to believe,) and his active glee at anything involving being Robin and persistent smiling pursuit of Doing So against Batman's strong disapproval, because he hasn't officially said no (he did several times, but you can't blame a kid for being excited.) Like, I think he said he never dreamed of being Robin just because having a kid come in begging to replace Batman's dead son because it was a personal aspiration would be extraordinarily rude and arrogant and they wanted people to like this one. He was NOT in any way adverse they just couldn't make him THAT presumptuous, and he is by nature of what he's doing already moderately so.

But say it was true, that Tim was actively opposed to being Robin? Alfred would be pushing this shit HARD onto this thirteen year old kid like what the fuck bro. And "From what Master Richard said, he follows your orders." is HEINOUS but let's not get into that.

As a homesteader, I can say 100% Halsin needs some serious help. He is all about "nature has a balance, where all are cared for", meanwhile here I am, having to pull two drakes off one lady duck because, by nature, both will attempt to breed her as roughly as possible, even if it ends up injuring/killing her.

Also, by nature, my chickens have a strict pecking order. A good few get bullied as they are the lowest in the order. I attempted to introduce some young ladies to my less than a foot tall Sebright Rooster, and he was brutal with the bullying. I had to pull them out, he was so bad.

Nature is not a beautiful, idealistic lifestyle. It is survival of the fittest.

Perhaps Halsin needs to seriously rethink civilizations' role in nature. That we, as people of all races, differ from animals in that we can choose to rise above our basic desires and urges if we so choose. Chaotic change is normal among the wilds, but we can actually bring good change, despite however much evil is in the world.

That is our role.

I absolutely have a hard in for powerful men whose tragic pasts cause them to hyperfixate on self-desteuctive goals as their only coping mechanism for the future, hardening themselves against outside intervention except for a handful of trusted people who have to work very hard to get them to partially see the error in their ways.
