kishimoto literally could have made up any reason, and we know this because he made up things for tsunade to teach her. her chakra control is why she’s so strong and why she can use the reserve seal.

we know kakashi thought sakura would be a great genjutsu user, and it’s kishimoto’s fault for not incorporating on screen teaching between kakashi and sakura and that this has limited narrative importance in shippuden

naruto uzumaki: heard kiba use it when referring to his partner a few times and it was jokingly tossed around when they went out for drinks one friday night. filled with liquor courage and newfound knowledge, he slammed the door to your apartment open like he owned the place, before his squinted eyes focused on you. he announced his presence with a loud “HEY POOKIE!” and attacked you with a million kisses and curious fingers that quickly snuck under your pajama pants. you’re confused, but naruto is being so gentle yet firm as he kisses you that it’s easy to forget that he just came home hammered and with an awkward nickname for you that’s just so him. two minutes later he passed out face down on your bed, all sticky and warm from drinking.

wakes up the next day like nothing happened and greets you with a hungover “morning, pookie..”, before he tries to unsuccessfully manipulate you into cuddling for another hour. doesn’t let the nickname go even after 20 years of marriage and three kids.

obito uchiha: he suffers from stupid simp man disease and it’s terminal. when he was being cocky and bragging about how amazing and kind and brave you are to kakashi, it slipped. “my pookie-“ and he freezes up like a deer in headlights. obito has never called you pookie before, well- not in public at least! it sends him into a stuttering frenzy as he tries to explain himself to a rather confused kakashi (bless his heart, he thought pookie was exclusively used in icha-icha). when obito unsuccessfully explains himself, teasing ensues. the uchiha comes home all sullen with his shoulders slumped and wraps his arms around you from behind, hiding his face in your hair. you can tell how embarrassed he is based on how warm his cheeks are- he must be blushing. obito is the most irresistible when he’s so open with his emotions, courageously confessing that he adores you or shyly asking for a kiss, which is why it’s almost impossible to not tease him when he’s this vulnerable.

“everything okay? you seem down today, loverboy.”

he grumbles in response.

“obito? use some words please?”

“… it’s nothing.”

and when his brain adds the dreaded ‘pookie’ to the end of his sentence, obito knows he has to confess his sins to you before kakashi spills the beans and asks you what embarrassing nicknames (plural!) you use for him.

kiba inuzuka: yet another victim of the stupid simp man disease. of course he uses pookie on a daily basis. what’s for dinner, pookie? you ass looks great today, pookie. gimmie a kiss, pookie! kiba has no clue where he heard the pet name, but he looooves it, so much so that he overuses it. he sometimes goes for unbearable variations of it that he is certain will irritate you; kiba says them with the most annoyingly flirty smirk you’ve ever seen (pookums, pookie-bear, pookie-wookie if he wants you to groan and roll your eyes). overall, his main goal is to fluster you in any way he can. can you blame a man who desperately wants to see you red and bashful, clinging to him and asking him to stop because you’re in public and people are staring? god, you’re too cute when you whine about how mean he is being. but he can’t help it! people need to know you’re his and only his, pookie!

this is where his cuteness agression shows- he just wants to squeeze you in his beefy arms and never let go when you’re like this!

the only way to get him to stop is to return the favor- call him a nickname that’s equally as cheesy and stupid, if you can think of one that is. kiba can get very creative and isn’t afraid to humiliate himself a bit if that means that you’ll blush ten times harder than before.

sai and gaara would suffer the same fate- two socially awkward guys who read/heard somewhere that nicknames are a good way to make friends.

sai has liked you for a while and wanted to tell you, but the books he read all said the same thing- hinting at your crush is the way to go. why tell the person directly, when you can make it unnecessarily complicated? and so one day when sai was supposed to meet up with sakura and you, he decided to greet you with a wave, a confident “hello, pookie” and the most polite smile you’ve ever seen. sakura was giving sai an earful about how it’s inappropriate to use pet names he gave you in private in front of your friends, and you were on the verge of passing out from how genuine sai sounded. if you replayed the moment enough times in your head, you could catch the glimmer of pure affection in his voice that tugged at your heartstrings.

gaara had a similar situation, except it was kankuro who put the nail in the coffin and convinced him that calling you pookie was the way to your heart. poor man decided to test that theory when you came in with a report later that afternoon, bruised, dirty and disheveled from the mission you were sent on. as you handed him the papers, you could hear a gara mutter a small “thank you, um… pookie.”

you almost combusted when he tilted his head in confusion, looking extremely endearing as he observed your flustered reaction. was i successful?, he thought as he watched you stutter out questions regarding the nickname with warmed cheeks.

I'm sad that Bachira has been relegated to just Isagi's best friend/love interest because he should be his proper rival.

He was literally introduced in the SECOND chapter as this terrifyingly creative player, who understands Isagi better than he understands himself.

Someone wild and unpredictable and erratic, with whimsical lethality.

He displayed incredible athleticism, capable of doing a handstand kick into Igaguri's face, as well as an upside down kick over Kira's head.

In the anime, they show him being able to kick the ball from the ground into his hands. And in both the manga and the anime, they show how Isagi doesn't really have a chance of stealing the ball from him, because his dribbling skills are just that good.

From then on, he and Isagi are really just best buddies who train together a lot.

And it's a shame, because while I adore their friendship, and wouldn't trade in that casual affection for anything... it needed to evolve.

I really wanted Bachira to be a villain in the second arc.

They just made Rin the villain, and had Bachira just basically be the princess who needs to be saved.

Cute and all, but a disservice to Bachira.

Isagi compliments Bachira all the time, but never seems to view him as being a deadly weapon on Rin's team. He just sees Rin as the problem. Not once does he think oh shit oh no I've not only lost my best friend here, but I now have to BEAT him, and that's horrifying.

I wish they had a NaruSasu type relationship, just healthier, and actually believable, you know?

The friendship chemistry is there.

But I wanted to see Isagi view Bachira as his enemy, at least for that match.

Someone he has to defeat... so he can take him back.

A proper rival, who can beat him.

They introduced Bachira as if he was going to be the second protagonist. Again. Like Sasuke to Naruto (although the personalities are reversed, lol).

A lot of people thought Kira might be the second protagonist... but then Bachira eliminated him.

And then Bachira was a prominent character. So a lot of people assumed ok, so he'll be like... Sasuke.

He's not the MC, but he's just as important... but that was not the case.

and that is such a shame because bachira is a really fun character, and it would've been very easy to keep him relevant... have him surpass isagi a few times!

isagi doesn't have to lose all the time or anything. that's what Rin's for.

but have bachira surpassing him.

have isagi genuinely think goddamnit... gotta beat bachira.

as it is, bachira is just his love interest.

and that's cute and all, but it really wastes him.

and it's why it's so hard, being far away from bachira for so long.

he's just gone, because the creators don't see the OBVIOUS solution right before their eyes.

Going off the idea reader has AuDHD, if your special interests are girly, I think he’d leave you gifts pertaining to that, but not by hand. Killua would leave gifts lying around for you like a cat brings a mouse to a doorstep. No words, just a gift that’s obviously from him.

He’ll deny he got it for you, but if you pretend like it’s from somebody else he’ll get offended and ask where the hell you got that from. You can’t win.

Alluka helps him pick out gifts for you.

Killua loves gift giving tbh.

Not only are you beautiful in his eyes, but he also can see that you are an amazing strategist and come in handy on missions and jobs. Even if you’re not quite as strong as the others in your group.

The group being that you, him, Gon, and Alluka travel around together in a group now.

Sasuke Uchiha

Rumors about who he likes had been flying around for a while.

And honestly, at first he thought you only dressed and acted so girly because you heard those rumors about how he liked girls who looked a certain way. Since apparently, that’s what people say? He doesn’t remember telling anybody anything about his preferences, but oh well.

But, once he realizes you really weren’t googling at him constantly or begging him for an ounce of attention, he was a bit more intrigued.

Not necessarily immediately, but when you two are around each other for a mission or something, and he gets to know you, you begin to catch his eye.

And even if he does strike your fancy, you weren’t too obvious about it.

At first, he wrote you off for being weak, but your strategic thinking really came in handy on a couple missions you accompanied him (and maybe Naruto and/or Sakura) on.

Unlike Killua, Sasuke is more the type to do things for you than buy things for you.

If somebody got to you and hurt you during a mission, like that scene with Sakura where he asks “who did this to you?” Yeah imagine that. Where he defends her by breaking a guys back or whatever.

Yeah you’d have to stop him if somebody hurt you.

Because like they say, ain’t no love like Uchiha love.

Sakura Haruno fic recs: ANBU

AHHHH!!!! I love ANBU fics, especially when they involve Sakura. It was such a cool concept, which was unfortunately never fully expanded upon. However, our lack of knowledge regarding the shadow corps allows for some really cool fic ideas since authors can take creative liberty on the structure and workings of the division.

In my opinion, Sakura had the most potential out of team 7 to join ANBU (at least more than Naruto). It's all about being discreet and efficient and although she wasn't strong during og, she possessed abilities that would be valuable for this. Her clever mind, chakra control, and genjutsu potential would've made her a good fit. Naruto was too flamboyant and Sasuke was too reckless and cocky, but this is just my take. However, with her new skill set from her training with Tsunade, I don't think she would be able to go down that path anymore.

One of the best character developments I've read for Sakura and she certainly becomes of force to be reconned with. The ANBU lore in Masks is absolutely phenomenal and I love the whole system that is put into place as it adds for some drama (lol). Also, can we talk about how awesome crow summons are????

After the Forest of Death, Sakura comes to realize that being weak is no longer an option. However, she finds that change is sometimes painful and that truth doesn't always come easy. Luckily, she'll have some help along the way.

It's been a while since I've read Five Kingdoms for the Dead, but I just remember it being absolutely great! I'll be honest, I found a lot of the mind stuff pretty confusing at times, but it was still enjoyable. Also, some great characters are utilized in this fic such as Neji, Sai, and Itachi. Makes me really wish that we saw more of Sakura and Neji working together in Naruto since I think they compliment each other quite well.

Haruno Sakura made a promise. Looking in the eyes of her Shisou and the reanimated Hokage, she took on the most important mission of her life. Go back in time and try to prevent the 4th Shinobi War. Now, Sakura is back to her 5-year-old body, with all the knowledge and haunting memories of the future. She vows to keep her precious people safe and stop certain events from happening, without altering the timeline too much. The trials her emotions and logic put her through have her questioning her very existence, but for the sake of peace, she has to push forward. No matter what.

Trials of Change is actually apart of a time travel series and I have to say that it is probably one of the best of the genre! Now, Sakura is not in ANBU here, but she works very closely with team Ro (Kakashi's ANBU team) and it's a huge part of the story, so I'm choosing to count it anyway. I really adore all of the worldbuilding and backstories going on here in addition to the fact that there are breaks. Yes, the story keeps moving, but there are other things going on, like playdates, and not just Sakura trying to save the world. Also, if you love Shisui then definitely check this out since he has a huge role and his and Sakura's friendship is just so precious.

After Sakura's first team, consisting of the graduating class's "expendables," dies, she joins team 7 and faces backlash along her shinobi journey. Sakura doesn't join ANBU until the later chapters so fair warning that there isn't too much content in that regards (unless it updates). Nonetheless, Sakura views ANBU as vital to her career as it offers her the highest clearance she can get. Gaining her opportunities for information her civilian-born status didn't allow her privy to.

No one seemed to find it odd when little Haruno Sakura threw herself smack dab in front of a Chidori and Rasengan. Not even Kakashi stopped to wonder.(He really should have.)

The story of how Sakura came to be the sixth hogake despite all of the challenges thrown her way. I especially love Sakura's drive in addition to the political aspects. However, be warned that Kakashi is an absolute HATER (in the beginning), but he gets better! The Sixth Shadow is extremely long and I only just recently got to Sakura's introduction to ANBU, so I can't say too much in that regard.

Sakura got up and didn’t bother brushing the dirt from her dress. She had a feeling she was about to get even dirtier.She looked at the memorial stone one last time, memorizing the characters without even realizing she was doing it. It would serve from that moment on as a reminder of her determination. She wouldn’t let Naruto and Sasuke join the names carved on that stone.That was her nindo.

Sakura's growth throughout Daughter of Fire is great and realistic all while pointing out aspects from the original series which were flawed and dare I say misogynistic. I struggled a bit in the beginning to justify her abilities, but overall the story is really well done and the ANBU aspects are quite intriguing.

when eighteen-year-old, post-war Sakura is thrown back into her tiny, pre-Academy body, she makes a decision. she'd had a childhood once already, and this time, she's more interested in Not Dying when the inevitable shit hits the proverbial fan. so she will work harder, care less, kill more, and smile when she's done.and hey, if she ends up reviving an extinct nature transformation to attract the most corrupt, power-hungry man from her timeline, all the better for her, right?

Such a unique take on a time travel AU and Cut the Head Off the Snake executes it perfectly. Sakura decides that her first order of business is to infiltrate ROOT and that's exactly what she does. Sai, Shin, and Shisui are all great characters and team Ro is present as well. Very good!

Flowers only bloom just before they wilt When Sakura loses her fight against Ino in her Chuunin exams, she questions her ability to ever become a kunoichi, too weak to protect herself, let alone her village One wrongful promotion later and Sakura gets a second chance in the shape of a mysterious new teacher who against all odds is willing to put her faith in a young girl with potential and a willingness to fight. Or- a fix-it inspired fic where Sakura grows to be the powerhouse she was destined to become.

Flowers is a newer series (which has recent updates) and I love it! Critiques are made towards the medical ninja training, which I believe needed to be discussed and it's refreshing to see. In most ANBU fics I've read, Sakura is immediately put onto the strongest team, but here it's a bit different. She begins on a demolition squad, which not only suits her skill set quite well, but is a realistic approach to how she would be introduced to the corps. Anyway, it's one of my favorite reads at the moment and I really like where the story is going.

I don't remember Equinox very well, but I love most works by this author sooo. Anyway, Itachi stays in Konoha and instead it's Sasuke that goes rougue. Sakura, Naruto, and Shikamaru are newly joined ANBU members and all placed on a team with Itachi and things go from there.

Sakura is probably one of my all time favorite fics because the emotions are just spectacular. The story is pretty heavy on ANBU and ROOT aspects, which I always enjoy, but I wouldn't say it's a major focus. However, there is an emphasis on the unfair treatment towards kunoichi. Anyway, the characterizations and storytelling are beautifully done. Please share this author some love.

Hi there！ Oh I have received many questions so far such as why do you ship sns, how long have you loved sns etc. but i have never seen a question like how did you come to sns fandom. So I thought a little about your question ^^！

Well, if I remember correctly i started watching Naruto in around 2014 …but started shipping them around 2016. I didn't watch anime episodes every day so it took me about 2 years to finish the whole story, yep (I checked the manga much later). And I didn't start the anime for naruto&sasuke's story. Sasuke's character caught my attention from the very beginning. So obviously, I started watching the anime just to learn about his and Itachi's story together. However, even though I hadn't even finished the first season of the anime yet, the story of Naruto and Sasuke and all those feelings reflected by the author had seriously penetrated into me. Still, I didn't want to make a clear decision before finishing the whole story and waited… But as each episode passed, Naruto's feelings for Sasuke began to increase and this had reached a point that could no longer be ignored. And this actually reminded me of myself in a way. I mean, i was following some anime pages at that time and maybe 90% of the naruto fandoms clearly hated Sasuke. And sometimes I even wondered if i was the only one who was weird. Because I understood Sasuke, i knew why he acted like that and i never blamed him. And even also contrary to what others said I never believed Sasuke hated Naruto. Because even though he didn't say anything, the author was drawing Sasuke's eyes in such a way that as if I understood everything he said at that moment

After the story ended, both of them got married to a female character, so I think they asked the entire fandom to ignore the story that has been written for so many years. Some accepted this situation, some said they won but frankly, I have never been someone who lies to myself, so I chose to move on without forgetting my past. That's why, I decided to join the sns fandom to keep them alive …at least as much as I can. Also ofcourse I never forget the fanartists who inspired me！If they weren't there I probably wouldn't be where i am today. Some of them already know themselves and some of them maybe don't even know about my existence because they deleted their accounts and left the fandom long ago… But as I said, I have never been someone who quickly forgets my past, so i'll never forget them either <3

I want to be a little more honest with you guys now. A few days before you sent this dm I was thinking to myself that i shouldn't be in this fandom. Yes. Maybe if you ask why, I can't explain it. Just… I have been experiencing some personal and country-related problems lately, and I can say that I am starting to fear that these may become permanent problems. It's probably too early to talk about these things but… I just feel like i'm not as creative and active as i used to be. So… idk. Just wanted to share with you all how I feel inadequate.

Her Shinigami eyes could actually cause SO many issues for ninja in general. No disguise ever works on her bc she can see your name !! You can not go undercover with this bitch around she'll catch you near instantly!!

Also her being able to see peoples lifespans would fuck so hard there too, what a party trick to pull. I want her to push someone to do some insane shit while going "nah don't worry you won't die for another few months at least so you'll be fine!! :)"

I don't think she came w the death note itself just bc I don't think Misa could prevent someone from taking it from her and it's way too OP to deal with the logistics of what having it just out there in the world would actually mean. Pretty much any naruto character gets it and the story ends in like 3 minutes flat

I know that there are shinigami in Naruto canon, tho I'm not too familiar w the specifics.

Either way, it could be cool if we really got into Misa's relation to them— she can see them with her eyes already, maybe she can sense them too. She's like being drawn to different artifacts and prisons of shinigami, she can sense them from far away and they call to her ooOOoOoo

She ends up freeing that one specific shinigami from the mask or whatevers going on w that. And since she already has the eyes from Rem, instead of going "oh, thanks lmao *kills you*" when freed, they recognize that shes already been claimed by a shinigami and are like "Oh shit, nice contract blondie." and she has an actual opening to talk to them (and maybe get another funky death god contract along the way)

Misa continues to show she has unstoppable, unbeatable shinigami rizz even into the next dimension. They all want her.

(If nothing else, naruto world has PROVEN that if u roll high enough on a charisma stat, you can convince anyone of literally anything, no matter if it was like the driving force of their entire life since they were 5 or whatever. So why shouldn't Misa get to talk shinigami into liking her just by being violently friendly?? No really, why not??)

Shes collecting death contracts like Pokémon cards, causing actual fucking havoc everywhere she goes via unleashing ancient evils for deals for some of their power (thanks Misa!!)

She doesn't know how to fucking fight tho, she's a 2000's goth girl in chunky heels. She's getting by on her insanely high charisma stats, good luck, and the giant shinigami only she can see standing directly behind her with a giant baseball bat waiting for someone to get close enough to hit

Could be cool if her shinigami eyes let her see yokai in general too, and just say there weren't enough back in modern Japan to notice. But there's TONS around now and Misa is making little kissy faces at them trying to be friends

Her eyes keep her safe by marking her as already claimed by a shinigami, also making most yokai reguard her as one of them. That could also maybe be used to get her places she shouldn't be in / have weaknesses a normal guy doesn't

Like, seals designed for yokai work on her too

Her eyes need to be mistaken for sharingan at LEAST once and it must cause as many problems as possible.

It'd be neat if Rem was there too. Maybe Misa collecting all this power from different shinigami is actually in some quest to bring Rem back, via giving her that power she got from the other shinigami. She's like roaming the land in an effort to get as much power as possible to make Rem a new body or smthn.

The rules of how shinigami exist and are allowed to interact with the mortal plane is different than the rules where Misa is from, so there's like tons of wiggle room for creativity n "woahh I didn't know you could do that!!"

Misa herself is such a go with the flow morally grey gal w a very clear potential and allowance for absoloute insanity— I think she'd be super down with joining whoever just happens to be the first person she meets in Naruto world. Like. She bumps into the Akatsuki first? You KNOW she's gonna join in. She happens to land near Konoha first? Hell yeah she's loving the funky ninja village! Military dictatorship? Fine by her!

Shes so undying loyal, no matter how clearly wrong or deranged the object of her affection is. So whoever earns that affection first is gonna keep it p much the whole way through (honestly this world is just lucky she's still hung up on Light, which is why she still has sommee agency here)

I think the most interesting thing to do w her + what parallels her story best would be joining Akatsuki actually. Cmon, a terrorist organization "dedicated to peace" (through murder) she's so there for it, she's asking to pretty please help bc "Light would probably like it <33"

Also the Akatsuki cloak is like the only naruto outfit I can see her really rocking while keeping her signature style. ALSO also, Akatsuki nailpolish code,,,,

i've been binging some analog horror stuff as background noise for when I draw and while I recognize this creative subgenre is largely a means for young people to experiment with novel atmosphere and aesthetics, at least 90% of the output here is absolutely going to be something that kids revisit in like 10 years and go "oh, I liked this...?". overlaying vhs effects over images is the modern day overlaying widows movie maker effects over naruto fan art.

Naruto 

I'd like to start by saying that I think naruto, sakura, sasuke and sai can all sing, but they kind of do it in shifts, and like depending on the genre/who's playing what instruments. 

Naruto is for sure the drummer. He started mainly for fun, but one day Sakura briefly mentioned maybe starting a band and Naruto started to take it so seriously. 

The kind of drummer that tosses his drum sticks up in the air when he plays, and like flips/spins his sticks

Has a really good sense of rhythm..the type of person to constantly be tapping his fingers on tables or bouncing his leg in time with a song. 

Always shows up to practise a bit late, but brings enough energy drinks for everyone so no one can be mad at him. 

Also collects Monster tabs and keeps them on a chain that he NEVER takes off. 

Likes to bluff and say he can play guitar, but when someone actually calls his bluff, you can see the progressive embarrassment. 

Sakura 

Plays more than one instrument: Keyboard and bass

Also does a lot of background singing

She usually writes the music, but tends to lack a bit when it comes to words. She has an ideology that words need to rhyme, and it stops her from actually writing music. 

Started keyboard because her parents wanted her to play classical music, and she had quite a bit of recitals. 

Once she saw that Ino, Shikamaru, and Choji made a band she instantly wanted to be in one as well, and mentioned it once to Naruto…he pestered her, Sasuke, and Sai until they all agreed. 

Sasuke 

Plays both acoustic and electric guitar, piano, and used to play violin

His parents wanted him to have many hobbies because it “would help in the future”, so on top of making him do hip hop dance (which he will never EVER talk about) and cram school, they also made him learn piano and violin. 

Like Sakura’s parents, they really wanted him to learn classical music because they thought it was “sophisticated” 

Itachi and Shisui taught sasuke to play guitar, and it is by far his favourite to play. Its something that he finds himself doing when he feels like he needs to calm down or collect his thoughts. 

Writes most of the lyrics for their songs ....his parents also made him take creative writing classes..at least they paid off. 

He also writes music, but more for fun than anything. They’ve used his music, but rarely…has songs he’s written for his family and friends though. 

As a VERY large collection of guitar pics, and attaches his favourites to his wall. Has a couple from Shisui and a couple from Itachi that are his prized possessions, and he never uses them because they are “too lucky” 

Sai

Say also plays bass, but i think hes also really good at blending music together and making sick beats. Hes like. There DJ. 

Also kind of a manager? When they first started off, he helped set them up for their first couple of shows. (kakashi becomes there actual manager) 

Can sing, but HATES it, and usually only background sings if he HAS TOO. 

Also made the official fan page for the band, along with a discord server, fan mail email, and has a whole sponsor email thing set up as well. He does most of the work behind the scenes. 

Also takes all photographs for the band (at the beginning) and helps edit the music videos.

I found this post years ago and saved it. Yes, as a Naruto fan I could simply not accept that Minato would simply settle with a name like ‘Rasengan.’

How would you have the canon pairings in naruto get together if you had total creative control? :00

Naruto and Hinata needed to interact more, and Neji should not have to die for them to have a reason to finally talk again. (I mean interact throughout the whole series, from part 1, and also after Hinata's confession!? Pls!!)

Sai and Ino would both have to be introduced as their own people from the start and not Sakura/Sasuke's substitutes/foils and also talk to each other. I love them both and it felt like they were just "the spares" for sasusaku! ;-;

To suggest anything for Chouji and Karui I'd first need to now how did that even happen. When did they even meet? Did they ever talk??

Shikamaru and Temari are okay? Better than the rest at least, but as a character Shikamaru still needed to learn to treat women better by the end of the series and I cannot see how someone like Temari of all people would ever go along with that. Other than that they're fine.

Finally Sasuke and Sakura? Oh god I would need Sakura to get over her crush!! So that they could start over and Sasuke could have the chance to earn her feelings back properly. I like to think how the scene where she fails to kill him could have been useful for that if, instead of hesitating because of her feelings, she hesitated because she was afraid to end what team 7 once had and also because it would hurt Naruto. After the war they could go back to how it was as genins, but now as actual friends and then I could see the relationship develop.

In conclusion: Details aside, they all needed more interactions!!
