Deep in the Meadow 🥀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The songbird and her two little fledglings, its just gonna be the two of them for quite some time ✨🐦‍⬛
Lucy Gray is making each day at the edge of dawn strolls with both her gremlins through the meadow while singing soft lullabies. While Janus is off in minutes it takes longer for Clementine to fall asleep simply because she doesn’t wanna. She wants to stay up and chase the glowing bugs! and eat them

After the Nightmare
AKA Horrors of the Scriptorium pt 3
Part 1 Part 2
Some art that goes with
Garreth x F!MC (Katherine)
Hurt/comfort, fluff, descriptions of gore and injuries. Blood. Heart wrenching fluff
Post scriptorium. After the Slytherin boys abandoned Katherine on the floor in the scriptorium, she got out alone where she was found by Garreth.
Word Count: 1.9k
Garreth wasn’t completely sure where he was taking her. Logically he should head up to the hospital wing, Katherine was passed out and bleeding in his arms.
However, he was a little too preoccupied with the in his arms part to worry about what his feet were doing.
She seemed so tiny and fragile in this moment. Nothing like the formidable, calm witch he had befriended. She trembled and her brows furrowed.
He looked down at her, his eyebrows mirroring her own; though his was out of concern instead of agony. He wasn’t even really aware that his legs were moving as fast at they were.
They guided of their own accord, thankfully towards the hospital wing.
Bursting through the doors, he cried out for Nurse Blainey to help.
The nurse came out of her office at the commotion, eyes immediately zeroing in on the bleeding girl in his arms.
“What in Merlin’s name happened?” She rushed over, taking an initial look as she led them over to an empty bed.
“I’m not sure. I just found her like this.” Blainey gave him a look as he began trying to explain. “I- I found her in the dungeons. She’s been missing for just over 2 days.”
Blainey’s eyebrows furrowed in concentration as Garreth set Katherine down onto the bed, minding her injuries as he moved her. “She’s had heavy blood loss. And by the look of that leg, it’s most likely infected.” Nurse Blainey’s voice was controlled and professional as she began to look closer at the Ravenclaw unconscious before her.
Hands deftly moving over the seemingly fragile girl, inspecting for further injuries. Lips pursing when she came across the girls lack of fingernails. She mumbled under her breath of how the pattern of the tear meant it was likely self inflicted, albeit accidental.
The ginger grimaced as he made out bits and pieces of the nurse’s mumbling. He hadn’t gotten a good look at her injuries before he brought her here, but even he could see that her fingertips were scraped raw and all but degloved.
Dirt was caked in with the tender flesh and exposed muscle, mixing with the blood that was fighting to clot and heal.
Godric’s heart, what had happened to her?
That was all went through Garreth’s mind as his stomach churned at the sight of his friend’s crumpled body, blood seeping through the linens. He didn’t notice the blood that had stained his own clothing, not that he would’ve cared much anyway. His friend was in bad shape, a little blood on his shirt was nothing compared to the pain of possibly losing her.
Had this not been an emergency, the gryffindor might’ve even blushed when Blainey began cutting away at Katherine’s skirt. His eyes stayed trained on the gash on her thigh; further exposed now that the garment had been removed.
Blainey also untied a particularly saturated piece of cloth from above the wound. She had at least tried to slow the bleeding by making some kind of bandage, though it didn’t seem to do much to ease the laceration.
It was angry. Blood poured out of the wound, if he focused his ears he was sure he’d be able to hear it spreading across the floor. Pieces of dirt and dust were mixed into the wound. Muscle visible through the open skin.
Nurse Blainey worked quickly. Scrambling about the room, grabbing gauze and every potion one might imagine. Had Garreth not been a wee woozy at what he was seeing he might’ve taken notice to her calling for extra healers, or telling him to move out of the way.
It wasn’t until someone physically moved him that he snapped out of his daze and took note of his surroundings. The room was becoming packed his various healers, all speaking and moving around the little body on the bed.
Hands in his tousled hair, he took a couple steps back. Eyes roaming over his friend, they were met with a piercing blue.
Her eyes were open, and she was looking at him. Pleading, tears streaming down through the dirt and blood. They kept him in place, there was no way he could leave her. Especially in this state.
A violent scream was ripped from her as the healers continued their work, his own throat tightening at the painful sounds erupting from hers.
The little birdie, ever so meek and steadfast. Always with an air of composure and compassion. Yet there she lay, a broken husk of a little girl.
— — —
Hours stretched on like years. Garreth sat huddled in a corner, the echoes of her screams playing an ugly game of tug-of-war with his heart. It hadn’t taken long for the healers to rush him out of the room; so there he sat, in a corner on the floor next to the hospital wing. His own clothes grown stiff with her blood.
His mind ran rampant with questions; Where had she been? What happened? Had she been with anyone? If so, how could they have just left her?
His thought spiral was interrupted by the door to the hospital wing opening. Nurse Blainey stood in the entrance, dried blood on her apron.
“She’s stable. She’s unconscious, but you’re free to come in and sit if you would like.” Her voice sounded a tad tired, but was held steady with her professionalism.
He scrambled up off the floor before she had finished the last syllable, brushing off his pants.
The curtains were drawn around the bed she had been in when he was ushered out of the room. Tentative steps carried him over to the shrouded cot. With a deep, steadying breath he drew back the curtain.
There she was, eyes shut and breathing even. Safe.
Garreth felt some of the tension leave his body at the sight. They had cleaned her up, no more blood and dirt marred her pretty face. Her brown hair was no longer in its usual bun, long tresses falling over the pillow on which she rested.
He brushed a stray strand away from her eyes and admired her. She was alive. Thank Merlin, she was alive.
Sitting down in the chair next to her he crossed his hands on the bed, unsure of whether to take hers but unwilling to be too far from her.
Katherine was pale and the occasional tremble coursed through her, but other than that she seemed peaceful.
It didn’t take too much longer of Garreth gazing at her sleeping form for him to slip away and join her, head resting on the bed near her legs.
— — —
The Gryffindor dorm rooms were unusually bright for morning; Everything was all white and clean.
Wait.
He opened his eyes more fully, squinting at the brightness, and took in his surroundings as the memories of the night before flooded back.
His head shot up and he looked down at the object of his worry and affections. She was still sleeping. Their hands were intertwined.. when had that happened?
His anxiety calmed as he reminded himself that Katherine was safe. He squeezed her hand, she was real and she was safe.
A soft noise escaped her and he snapped to attention. Blue eyes met green. The ginger let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Scooting a little closer to the head of the bed, hands still holding hers, he smiled at her tired face.
“Hey..” he kept his voice soft and his eyes studied her face.
“Hi.” Little. That was all he could think to describe how her voice croaked out. He couldn’t help but smile down at her. Then she opened her mouth “You look like crap, Garreth”.
He couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Yeah.” He couldn’t keep the admiration out of his voice if he tried.
She reached up a hand and pointed at the dried blood on his shirt and the dirt smeared across his freckled features, poking his nose lightly. The bandage tickled and he scrunched his nose, retrieving the offending appendage and holding it.
“It’s not mine.” She arched a brow at him. “I was too preoccupied to go change, would rather make sure you’re alright than worry about if my clothes are stained.”
Her eyes widened slightly at his words, a light red spreading across her cheeks-
Which sent Garreth into a protective frenzy.
“Are you okay? Do you have a fever?” His hands touched her forehead, checking her temperature. She tried to turn away, embarrassed. “You’re running a bit hot, let me go get Blainey.” He made a move to stand up but she stopped him.
“Garreth. I’m okay, all things considered.” Her bandaged hand wrapped around his, holding him in place. If she wished him stay he would seal himself to the floor.
“Are you though? Katherine… I-“ His voice caught in his throat, the sight of her bloodied and fighting for her life fresh in his mind.
Her hand squeezed weakly around his. “I’m as okay as I can be.” An ever constant calm that was infuriating in times like this. She was always so well composed. Even on her less than figurative death bed she remained stoic and put together, and it left him utterly baffled.
“You almost died Katherine.” A sense of urgency laced his tone, silently begging her to confide in him.
Her face softened falling slightly, her hand grazed his cheek, brushing a strand of golden red hair out of his eyes. “But I didn’t. Because of you.” Her hand lingered by his face and he turned into her touch. “Thank you for finding me.”
His chest tightened, her walls were down and she was somehow more vulnerable in this moment than in the dungeons. He grasped the hand that held his cheek. “I will always find you,” he whispered, locking his promise as his eyes met hers. “No matter how far you may wander or how lost you may become, I will always find you.”
Tears met her blue eyes and ran down her face. Instinctively he reached out and wiped them away, thumb staying and tracing her cheek.
Words she hadn’t heard before, and least expected to hear after being completely abandoned in the dark of the scriptorium, rang sincere out of the lions mouth.
The boy who made consistent messes at their shared potions station and made silly jokes spoke so sincerely she couldn’t help but tear up. He was her friend. Garreth cared about her. He saw her.
A shakey smile broke across her face as more tears appeared. And as quickly as they fell they were wiped away by a caring hand.
“There’s that smile.” His voice was reverent and smooth.
“Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me, as I said. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
She leaned into his hand that still cupped her cheek. “Thank you” a small broken voice that had never felt so touched.
They sat in comfortable silence for a while until Nurse Blainey walked up to them, breakfast in hand for the Ravenclaw.
“Mr. Weasley, Miss Ambrose needs to eat and rest. And you need to go clean up.” The boy straighten up at the nurse’s arrival. All three looking at Garreth’s messed and bloody appearance. Katherine giggled to herself, it was her blood but she was clean. “You can come back later. After your daily classes.” She came in closer and helped Katherine to sit up, setting the food tray down in front of her. Causing the gryffindor to scoot back, taking the obvious hint.
“Yeah, go to class! And take notes for me too.” Garreth couldn’t help but smile at her, ever excited to learn. Truly a Ravenclaw.
“Yes ma’am” he jokingly bowed slightly. “I’ll make sure I grab you a pastry at lunch too.” He snuck a wink in there for good measure, leaving the girl blushing into her breakfast.
And he all but skipped back to Gryffindor Tower.

The thing I find so difficult about fanart is that so much of it revolves around drawing people and I am just not that good at that. Here the face paints helped me a lot but I’m still not sure how it went. I’ve also somewhat accepted that my ADHD brain prevents me from creating pieces that can’t be finished in one sitting and therefore better quality drawing is quite far out of my reach.

Inktober 2024 — Day 16 — Grungy
This was another prompt I struggled with. Not just because of the word, but because I wasn’t sure who I wanted to draw. I tried thinking of grungy characters in terms of either dirty or rough looking characters, or grungy in terms of grunge music, but nothing was sticking. Then I stumbled upon grunge fashion, (which actually looks right up my alley) so I thought why not draw that. And who better to draw fashion for than characters from two doll series? I haven’t drawn Monster High or Ever After High in a while and drawing them together is a match made in heaven.
I chose Howleen Wolf because she’s my absolute favorite ever since I watched the 13 Wishes Movie. I feel like she’d be interested in grunge fashion, especially the dark colors, long baggy pants, and flannel shirts (Not sure how Clawdeen would react though). I kept her hair the way it is in her long hairstyle since it didn’t feel too out of place. As for Raven, I think she’d at least try grunge fashion once in her life. Though the clothes I picked for her didn’t turn out the way I thought it would in my head, (maybe my favoritism was showing) she still looks great, and I always wanted to give her a long braid just to give her outfit an extra punch.
All in all I like how these two came out, especially Howleen. Though I am certainly not a fashion designer, I may end up trying this again in the future, if only to get more practice.

@inception30daychallenge Day 17: How did the team spend the rest of the week on the first dream level?
2 days, 11 hours, 45 minutes.
That’s how long they’ve been here, and they still had almost 5 days before waking up.
Arthur was sure he’d go insane first. He hated sitting idly at the best of times, but here, with anxiety about Cobb and Saito’s fates and crippling guilt gnawing at him and nothing to distract him, it was a particular flavour of hell.
He let out a weary sigh and tightened his grip on the rail overlooking the city. He was alone. Eames still had a duty to look after Fisher and no one was talking to Yusuf right now. Ariadne had stayed with him for a while at first, relating what happened on the third level and Limbo and just keeping each other company, but when she decided to go back to their designated warehouse to rest he didn’t follow, needing to keep on the lookout for projections.
It was admittedly a flimsy excuse, the projections had calmed down now that Fisher was, presumably, at peace with everything, and there were remarkably few of them in the area of the city the team had claimed for themselves at a distance from where Fisher was staying. But he had already fucked up far too much for one job, he wasn’t going to take any more risks.
He tensed as he heard approaching footsteps, but then he recognised who it was.
‘Eames. Shouldn’t you be with Fisher?’
‘But babysitting is so boring, darling. I reckoned your company would be more pleasant.’ Eames answered cheekily.
‘Piss off, Eames.’ Arthur turned away from him. ‘I’m not in the mood for your games.’
‘Mm, it appears I miscalculated the pleasantness of the occasion.’
Arthur snorted. ‘Seriously Eames, why are you here? In case you haven’t noticed we’re still in the middle of a job and you left the mark alone. Do you realize how irresponsible it is?’
‘Relax, Arthur. Fisher’s fine, I may also hazard that the inception worked. But he actually did ask for some time for himself, so…’ He shrugged. ‘I’ll just go check on him tomorrow.’
Eames leaned on the rail beside Arthur. ‘I’m more interested in seeing how you're holding up, honestly.’
Arthur rolled his eyes. ‘I’m fine.’
‘Ariadne doesn’t think so. And forgive me, Arthur, but looking at you,’ he gave Arthur a once-over with no trace of his usual leer. ‘I’m more inclined to believe her than you.’
Arthur scowled. ‘Ariadne can well mind her own damn business. And you as well.’ It came out less angry and more brittle than Arthur would have liked, and he looked away.
Eames gently bumped his shoulder to Arthur’s. ‘Come on, pet. Don’t be like that. You can’t blame her for being worried.’
‘I wish she didn’t. There’s no need.’
‘Debatable. And in any case it doesn’t work like that, I’m afraid. She’s a good sort. Did you know she’s already dragged Yusuf out of his shame corner? And probably lectured, psychoanalysed and then forgiven him, by the look of things. Next we know, she’s going to rope him into playing cards or chess or something equally ridiculous.’
Arthur huffed out a poor approximation of a laugh. ‘Has she, now? I bet she even told him what’s the best way to grovel and apologize to us.’ He shook his head. ‘She’s too smart for her own good. And too good for our kind of world.’
Eames chuckled. ‘She’ll rule dreamshare one day, let me tell you. She’s even better than Cobb.’ And like that the mood sank again.
‘So is that what got you all doom and gloom, now?’ Eames asked after a minute with a sigh, far more softly than before, and Arthur felt a surge of rage.
‘Oh, for God’s sake, Eames! Of course it is! How can you be so unaffected?’ He snapped irritably. ‘Cobb and Saito are gone and lost in Limbo, and we’re still trapped here for days and not truly safe till we wake up and out of the plane, and we don’t know if and how they’ll be able to wake up at all, and if they don’t who knows what the hell expects all of us once we land, and it’s all my fucking fault!’ His voice kept rising and becoming more frantic as he got more and more worked up. ‘It’s my fault for being unable to do something so fucking simple as checking if he was militarized, and now all our fucking lives are hanging by thread! And for what? For nothing, no one!’
‘Enough!’ Eames grasped at his shoulder and shook it a little, the contact and firm order both so unexpected that stopped Arthur in his tracks. Then lower, gentler. ‘Enough, darling. Please. You can’t do this to yourself. You can’t take the blame for every single thing that went wrong. Not everything is neatly recorded, and even if it was, you had more than enough on your plate and no matter how hard you try you’re not a robot. Unexpected shit happens all the time. It’s not your fault.’
Eames started rubbing his thumb on the soft skin of his neck soothingly, and Arthur didn’t deserve it but he was weak, he was so fraught and exhausted that he couldn’t bring himself to shake his hand off, greedy for Eames’ warmth. ‘But it is. We wouldn’t be in this situation if we had known about the militarization.’ He said brokenly.
‘Or if we had known about the sedative.’ Eames grumbled.
And yeah, okay, Eames had a point, that betrayal still stung. But still, it wouldn’t have been such a problem if he had done his own goddamn job. ‘But-’
Eames interrupted him right away with a squeeze of his shoulder, his gaze so intense Arthur felt himself unravelling under it. ‘But nothing, Arthur. You fucked up, okay, that’s true. But the mess we’re in isn’t just your fault. That knowledge wouldn’t have protected us fully anyway. Maybe Saito would have still been shot, or maybe you in an attempt to protect us, and then we would have been in even more trouble. We will never know. As we don’t yet know if Cobb and Saito are actually lost forever or not. But there’s no use despairing now, so let’s try to stay optimist instead, yeah?’
‘Eames…’ Arthur choked around the lump in his throat, and his vision turned blurry.
Eames suddenly wrapped his arms tightly around him. ‘Oh, Arthur, please, stop torturing yourself for it. You did the best you could. And even if it wasn’t enough, even if Cobb and Saito won’t wake up, we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. Together. But Cobb already came back from Limbo once. So, and I can’t believe I’m really saying this about that bastard, have faith in him.’
It was just too much, the last shreds of his facade crumbled and Arthur buried his head in Eames’ neck and cried all his frustration and exhaustion and grief, while Eames merely held him close and whispered sweet reassurances.
When his tears subsided he didn’t move, a bit embarrassed by his outburst, but Eames didn’t comment, merely asked if he felt better.
‘Not really. But maybe-’ Arthur let out a shuddering breath and finally lifted his head to look at Eames. He was smiling, sad and impossibly fond, and Arthur’s heart squeezed. ‘Maybe you’re right. If there’s someone who can come out of Limbo it’s Cobb, so we have reason to hope. I’ll try not to worry about it so much.’
Eames’ smile brightened. ‘That’s the spirit, love. And lucky for you, I know the perfect distraction from life’s troubles. How about we go teach Ariadne and Yusuf proper poker? We’ll make him lose all the extra money he’s unduly earned as punishment.’
Arthur let Eames drag him away in companionable silence.
It didn’t last long.
‘So.’ Eames started. ‘What happened in your level? It was only a fraction of a second so I can’t be sure, but I’d bet what I saw wasn’t the ceiling of the room.’
And so Arthur told him about how he fought projections in zero gravity and improvised the kick by exploding the elevator.
Eames’ eyes widened more and more, and when the story was finished he stopped them. ‘Why are you being so bloody modest? That’s genius. Never let anyone tell you you have no imagination. You saved us, Arthur!’
‘That’s you, I believe.’ But a small smile was playing on his lips.
‘Well, sometimes I’m an idiot.’ And he kissed Arthur soundly, and Arthur couldn't help kissing back, it had been so long.
They pulled apart at the same moment and rested their foreheads against each other. ‘Darling, what are you doing after this?’
Arthur’s heart was pounding, but he was still the pointman and ensuring everyone's safety had to be his top priority. ‘Assuming everything goes right, we’ll need to separate, just like we planned.’
‘Can’t we just leave together? Just the two of us.’ Eames pleaded.
‘No. It’s too risky,’ Arthur reasoned, sounding regretful. ‘And I’m long due for a visit home.’
‘Oh. Yeah. Yeah, you’re right. But after that we will talk, right? About… this.’ He gestured helplessly between them, and his eyes were so huge and hopeful, mirroring the same longing Arthur felt, and Arthur couldn't resist.
‘Yeah.’ Arthur promised, entwining their fingers. ‘We’ll talk later.’
It was still raining, but Arthur felt lighter, a ray of hope in the shape of Eames had finally pierced through the thick clouds in his mind. Things were still a mess and very uncertain, and there was nothing to be done now till they woke up, but no matter what the future held, he wouldn’t have to go through it alone. He smiled.
