I might’ve gotten a bit sick and under poor health these past few days too- so, I had to hold off the book haul until today and let me just say — I love these books a little too much. But oh well!

This one was an impulse buy but given I never fully read the series as a kid, I figured why not get it now? Even if it is a graphic novel! It looked cool!

This one felt like a Scooby Doo esque book, and I just got sold by the description in the back. So, another small impulse buy!

I’ve been wanting this book for AGES, and now I finally have it! Who knows, maybe this time I finally finish my Secret Quartet AU (and Project Zero) though to be fair, I have health issues so-

Hrmm... Revising my game and I feel like there's still sooo much writing left to do, for something that probably won't even amount to much, so.. I do want to narrow my focus more (especially given my health problems seeming to get worse/less energy the past few years), but I'm not sure how would be best to...

I currently have 5 characters as the Main ones with full planned questlines and such, with each character having 6 quests you can do for them. But I haven't really started the writing for the 5th main character. So then I was thinking, if I were going to write 6 full quests worth of content anyway... is it better to allocate that time on just doing a Complete 6 Quests for ONE single character, OR would it be better to do something like.. choose THREE side characters and do 2 quests for each of them? So that people have a wider variety to interact with and sort of sample around (of course with the idea that, once the first version of the game is released, IF people actually care about it enough to make it worth the effort, I would then add additional content to complete those 3 characters stories as well)

If you were playing an interactive fiction sort of game centered around talking to & doing quests for a cast of characters (like there's no larger plot, more it's just about interacting with people, every character kind of has a self contained story, the focus is just learning about them and the world and exploring the area) --- Which would you rather have?

(and of course it would be stated up front which characters have only partial questlines, so people don't expect them to have full quests like the others and then get disappointed, or etc. etc.)

Basically, is it better to just focus in specifically on having one fully complete questline? Or for there to be a few stories that are not complete yet, but have more initial options available?

Lets get it straight:

Some ppl spamming Horikoshi's tweets are not actual Japanese ppl, but wrote it in Japanese so he would understand what they are saying (Japanese fandom tends to dislike leaks).

I have seen the 38 pages from a completely different account that seemed pretty random, one of those that says "ill delete in an hour" which has happened before; the most convincing thing about this is the amount of pages and how it looks at first glance pretty legit, with complex details but badly executed.

Besides the art looking pretty empty -there is just one slightly more detailed background, but its a small space and the rest has minimal effort to make it look like its a city- we need to keep in mind this could not be changed; in weekly released, some stuff changes as they are still working on things before a official release the chapter online, but this time we are talking about the publication of the volume. If we are supposed to believe these are real leaks, then it would just literally look like that. Empty. The other solution, in this hypothetical example, would be that these are old drafts or the first ones, but it doesnt make sense to me personally as the mistakes cant be just fixed adding more ink -you need to errase many parts.

Many things look dirty, not because of it being a leak -as you said, this is a weirdly clean full release- but because they add too much shadows in places that dont make that much sense. It also looks like multiple separate ppl worked on it, instead of being a clear teamwork where everyone has a particular job (like a messy group project).

At the same time two different pictures depicting the same scene with different qualities and styles were released. Small details like the suitcase, the seats, the seatbelts look pretty different, along with the drawing style. I dont remember if the person who showed the "full leaks" used both or just the right one, but its still weird that we have just two completely different formats (left one looks like it was a scan even with a watermark, and the right one is completely digital).

Hands weren't great, and many mistakes typical for artists happened but as we know, Horikoshi is the king of drawing hands, specially meaningful ones.

Some ppl are saying hj hsrs that horikoshi could just be taking revenge on SJ for not letting him make the actual ending he wanted, so he ended anything ppl could enjoy (no villains, no bkdk hero partners, no dadmight, no dadzawa, no hopeful message, no actual romantic handhold nor declaration of feelings...) but idk if he would do something like that and at the same time work with so much care in the redraws for the volume.

That reminds me, we supposedly got a full extra chapter, 38 pages, but we didnt get the leaks for all the redraws? As far as I know there are still more panels not revealed, and again, the volume is ready, in a few days ppl will be able to buy it.

The comments the leakers made feel so wrong to me... how this was so VERY WELL drawn and cute... when its empty, lacks emotional building and has so many drawing errors unlikely to happen with the high quality of the art. The whole Deku just beat all allegations, all of them... like making fun of shippers/ppl who like to hc him as queer? idk, its really weird.

A part of me believes it could be true -there are many pages and many complicated things to introduce like the suitcases that become hero suits- but at the same time this looks so bad, and goes against everything this whole series is about. How could this shit be approved, while working on making the other pages look even better? How could we just ignore the plus ultra message the last time? This isnt extra random content, this is a new chapter, 431. Where is it? where's bnha? this is a dj to hate on everyone while trying to keep it "realistic enough" to pass as real.

What if it's confirmed these aren't real pages and we've been upset over some fanart???

Like this looks like hori's old art style (or in some panels not at all like his art??) Like here's his re-draw of that one Deku scene compared to a scene in the epilogue

The "real" Batman

I see people complain about the emphasis some people put on Batmans more negative character traits a lot.

"That's not the real Batman, that's flanderiztion, fanon, a few bad but popular adaptions, the 90's only" and the like are common refrains and it really gets to me. Cos see, while I am aware no incarnation of Batman is totally one note, I emphasize the more negative sides of Batman for reasons that aren't "Edgy, badass, GRRR, Toxic masculinity woooh" bullshit and I hate being dismissed as such.

So, here's why I do it:

First is because of general frustration at the dismissal of any incarnation of Batman, regardless of popularity, or ongoing presence in the main-line comics and timelines, being invalid. IE, the "HE's not the real Batman so he doesn't count" when he canonically is, & as done stuff like that.

60s/80s Batman smiles after sending a purse snatcher away in an Ambulance, kidnaps & others relies on torture style interrogations. Just like 90s/2000's Batman threatens people with assault in prison & looms over a Mugger he slammed so hard into a wall it left a giant blood splatter.

It is fair to ague that brutality is not all of what he is, that's valid. But that side of him is not something I feel one can just handwaved away as "not canon" & people doing so frustrate me in large part because it feels intellectually dishonest. Its refusing to engage with a metric ton of the canonical lore of a character they are discussing.

Secondly is the fact that a lot of the lore, history, character development, derailment, treatment, tone, framing and more for characters OTHER than Batman relies on him having a history of problematic behavior.

Cassandra basically living in a Bat-Cave with no civilian life or identity because Bruce is giving her what HE wants for himself even though its bad for both of them is just an example of a huge part of their dynamic. One that can be deeply damaging, self destructive and messy, but also makes perfect sense given the characters involved.

How Jason's entire shift in character and framing was done largely to insulate Bruce from criticism over his death, IE, Jason being characterized post death as violent, arrogant, not particularly bright and then coming back as a villain also ties into 20 something years of smearing his name to protect Bruce's.

Stephanie's entire character history begins falling apart if Batman doesn't treat her like the trash he did in canonical mainline comics, and leaves her with only a couple of borderline cameos at best. Hell, even 'new' stuff where he's "nicer" still has him do things like fake therapy appointments to trick her.

Hell, even Dick in a lot of incarnations as well as mainline comics at different times has a lot of issues that came from being raised/trained by Bruce. No, it isn't universal, but it is far too common & recurring of an element to just say "doesn't count!" & declare the discussion over.

& the thing is, when people say they want the "Real" batman or the "Good" Batman, they not only erase these characters histories. They don't replace it with anything worthwhile for anyone but Bruce himself.

If ignoring all that meant replacing it with stuff like Jason never died & or never became Red Hood & is a totally different character. Or Cassandra and Bruce having arcs about their obsessions with vigilantism at the expense of their personal lives, or Stephanie actually getting to be ROBIN. Then it would be something at least somewhat interesting to engage with. But they don't, instead Jason still became a supervillain & is the Red Hood, Stephanie still got fired if she was Robin at all.

They are either forgotten (Cass & Steph) or end up being warped (Jason) so their characters history, everything is different and all to better serve making Bruce look good. I really find it vexing that even in "Batman is not a jerk" stuff, he still warps the narrative to everyone else's detriments.

After pulling a few all nighters and stealing a few caffeine patches from Lucifer while he was busy yelling at Satan’s cat for scratching the curtains, you completed two essays on the history of magic in Devildom, a data sheet comparing the changes in climate to the local impact of the town, and a cross word filled with all kinds of buzz words related to human culture. Lucifer explained to you how these exercises would not only strengthen important studying, reading comprehension, memory, and information gathering skills needed in everyday life, but would also help you learn more about the unfamiliar place you’ve found yourself in. And no matter how hard you begged on your knees to get out of it, he only doubled down, stating clearly that if you couldn't complete a basic essay, there was no way you were fit to be their assistant. You had to bite your tongue to stop yourself from mentioning that the only tasks you have been given so far are either simple errands that require little to no brain power or basic chores you’ve already done religiously back in the human world. But once again, none of it matters now that you’re free! You quickly carry your finished work into his office and set it in the designated basket. After peeling off the caffeine patches and taking a nice, big, well deserved stretch, instead of being filled with joy once again, you’re filled with a sense of overwhelming discomfort.

“I feel I aged twenty years… guess I should just go to my room and hibernate for the next few years,” you laugh to yourself as you try to hobble back to your room. But suddenly, something stops you. You tilt your head in confusion at the strange aura coming from the stairs. After rubbing your delirious eyes, you stealthily hone in on the target, hiding strategically behind the various tables and pillars in the hallway. As you take a peek up the stairs you notice the aura seems to be coming from upstairs, trickling down the steps like an ominous cloud of smoke. What in the world could be going on up there? Isn’t everybody out taking a stroll around Devildom? At least that’s what Lucifer told you before ditching you… grrr, you’ll get him back one day. Him and Mammon, too! Anyways, back to the problem at hand. If the house should pretty much be left just to you, then what’s with all this strange aura stuff you’re seeing? You rub your eyes again, just to make sure your exhausted brain isn’t playing tricks with you, yet the aura is still there. Summoning all the courage you can muster, you carefully tip toe up the stairs. If it couldn’t get any stranger, after reaching the fifth step, the aura suddenly dissipates.

“What the…? It’s… gone?” You scratch the back of your head and shrug, “Guess it was nothing. I really need some damn sleep before I seriously start to hallucinate.”

Turning around, you begin to make your way back to your room. As soon as your hand wraps around the doorknob, you feel a sudden, light grasp on your shoulder.

“Ohh MC~ ♡” A voice draws out your name with a pleasing tone.

“GAAHHHHH!!!!” If it wasn’t for physics, you would have probably jumped 12 feet into the air. Your body spasms in surprise as you almost fall limply to the ground if it wasn’t for this mysterious intruder catching you.

(In order of appearance in my life: Yeong's smiles are not Eun Seob's are not Seon Ho's are not Han Soo's are not Gun Woo's are not Min Joon's are not Hae Jo's (I'm still working on his older roles - I stumbled upon HIM mid 2022). But yeah... How does he even do that? I am IN AWE, I swear ! He has a thousand ways to cry too (even without tears imo by the way), but his smiles just always feel particularly *unique* to each of his character, to me. Allow me to mention too while I'm busy his overall INSANE eyebrows work. And well, once more (and forever): HIS HANDS (meaning the way he uses them to show what's going on inside this time - I won't repeat myself and mention Yeong's trembling hand, but Seon Ho's hands at his first kill? Hae Jo's hands during the hospital revelation?) But yeah... just EVERYTHING - everything he does is just LETHAL GOOD level anyway...) But to come back strictly to Hae Jo: he is a hell of a character; and Do Hwan truly succeeded in impersonating him. The layers! The unfiltering! (even when there are filters - Hae Jo IS filtering A LOT, don't get me wrong; but compared to several of his characters who tend to want/need to try to bottle up EVERYTHING (and again, THE TALENT, then - to let you see not only the wished perception but also what's hidden under it anyway), Hae Jo is almost (at least sometimes) an open book - and what a feast it is to see Do Hwan free to have a blast with it when those moments come!) It's even one of my favourites of his roles now :)

On to the show?

First, I'm so thankful it delivered what the first scene promised. I was ready to hurt from the premise, and so I wanted to hurt; and hurt badly. But I was still half expecting the show to pull some unrealistic magical recovery - even at the end of the last ep. I was so relieved and satisfied when the end credits started to roll and it hadn't - a total wreck of course, but a good wreck. I can't believe it's labelled a rom-com (and again i'm SO happy it ISN'T). Not only because of THE MASSIVE HURT, but also because even though the romance aspect is definitely present, to me it's not really what the show is about - it's SO MUCH MORE, and again, I'm glad Do Hwan got the opportunity to be this kind of not exactly (but in some ways yes) antimodel but always so much more LAYERED character than the 'standard' romcom part. I wish he could have gotten his teeth even more into the horrendous sadness and wrench our hearts even more (I don't even mean by crying - no matter how gutwrenching WELL he always does that too - but he's actually SO good he can be gutwrenching even just simply staring into nothing or whatever, right); but the show kept too upbeat in general for it and I understand why - and it really works (also, in a way, it makes it HIT even more when the show DOES get in this direction, so it's not really a complaint, just knowing that we could have had even MORE...)

Then, I LOVED the traumas, the issues, the unreliable self narrator thing, the lack of communication / miscommunication thing(s), the lack of understanding from lack of information not only between characters but also for us, because we don't have yet the whole perspective, the hurt, the lost families and the found families and the self-chosen families and so many LAYERS relationwise between the characters. Love works downwards - and that can be true (it is for me, because I had/have wonderful parents/grandparents and they are the ones who taught me love, from day one). John Na's hand blocking Eo Heung's view while he cries. The escape from the hospital because Hae Jo doesn't want to die under a *$!%&!$ ceiling. That damn four leaves clover.

What I just didn't adhere to though was the 'gang chase/comedy' parts. It adds imo nothing to the plot - they could (and should?) have gone chasing after the woman and the money, instead of behind Hae Jo's sorry ass... Jae Mi could have fallen or whatever and hurt herself just as badly whild being saved by the shoe without a mess wound... and it could have still be 'on Hae Jo's conscience' by accident (falling bad and impaling herself on something or whatever?) I can't help but wish they would have done something else with all that screen time. *SIGH* (On the other hand, if you cast Do Hwan why not use his amazing sportive skills, I guess, of course (he CAN do anything, truly), but weave it better into the story then?)

About Hae Jo's quest, I was expecting for him to find his sperm donor had died long ago. I love what the show came up with even more. Especially as you can see it two ways - and both are awesome. If number 2 is it it's maddening and painful because let's be honest he's a total jerk, yet he lives while... yep; if number 2 isn't and Hae Jo abandons the quest because he's realized there is no quest necessary to start with because the father he needs closure with is, well, his father, i just really love that take - growth AND heartbreak, right, AAAHHHHHHH ! (And when Hae Jo finally gets back 'home' and tries to tell himself it's now allright even as he realizes that this isn't home anymore because it's over a decade too late? - as his bed doesn't feel comfortable anymore no matter how much he tries to shift? You can reconcile with the child you were, but you can't ever go back home after leaving as he did? AAAHHHHHH ! And then Jae Mi comes to kidnap him back AAAHHHH again, gold reversal)

I have mixed feelings over Jae Mi, because on the one hand she has a lot of luggage, and I respect that. But I still think she is on the whole quite selfish generally - and I get where it comes from and I don't really blame her, but looking forward and looking TO OTHERS instead of always backwards might help, you know? I also don't think she was actually in love with Eo Heung - more like she was searching for warmth and security (and does he provide indeed !, so totally understandable; but I can't help but feel their relation would have been unbalanced) so I can't judge Hae Jo too hard for coming in between. She definitely has her moments though indeed - my favourite being her confessing that she walked away at that time because she wanted him to stop her - there's guts in that admission, chapeau (their break-up was so miscommunication/not interpreting the signals right on both sides I'm like why did you two idiots did this to yourselves, you were so cute and so obviously head over heels (and still are) - but that's real, actually, and that's why it hits, every time, no matter how many times we get back to that moment- AAAHHHH) And the noise bite - go girl, I agree !

But Hae Jo and Jae Mi? I BELIEVED in their love. I really did. They sold it 1000%. All the time. In the flashbacks. In the present. I BELIEVED. and I FELT. Do I feel that Hae Jo loves her more than she loves him, yes - because she is imo more self-centered and less giving than he is (explainable from her past; and it's good to see her at least START to grow as time goes by). But she loves him - truly and obviously. And she makes him happy - she does. Not all relation are 50/50 on the lifting, but as long as both are actually willing to lift at least some, right... They still honestly feel like true *partners* to me - both doing things FOR the other, and proactively; both to each other depending on the moment a wall they can lean on, a hug they find comfort in, and a hand pulling them forward; both willing to go in the same direction - and to go there together (no matter how shortly - PAIN !!!!)

I love Eo Heung too (honestly, he is the kindest sweetest ever), but his love for Jae Mi to me feels more selfless and caring, father like, than partner like, though; so I wasn't rooting for him in his Jae Mi debacle. Also there were moments I couldn't help but feel he was a bit over stereotyped - especially in a show where all other characters are imo really fleshed out (not including the mob gang only there imo for (unnecessary) comic relief indeed). I'm really glad he seems to be at a good place by the end, I wish him the best :) And his growing caring/understanding of Hae Jo :)

John Na is a gem (and could have been used more as (necessary) comic relief than the gang imo). So very few lines yet so ever present - and always so ON POINT. Also, I have his whole background headcanonned :)

The music is good overall. But California Dreaming? It just fits. My jaw dropped and my chest tightened at the first note the first time it came up at the end of ep1. JUST SO PERFECT. I was surprised by the way my thoughts and feelings over the characters evolved ep by ep - it was like being repeatedly slapped in the face and forced to reconsider carved into marble stuff even if I didn't even want to?

Imo, Hae Jo isn't the typical 'thinking he is entitled' asshole who can't take no for an answer he seems to be at the beginning. He came to the kidnapping plot because he has just come to play the part for that woman in the beginning, and he is doing it in fact because he believes it's in Jae Mi's best interest after having witnessed her emotional display at the hospital. Does he do it for himself too - because he needs her to face what's ahead; because he wants a last ray of sunshine in his life; yes - of course, indeed. But I do believe he would never have even thought about it if he had stumbled upon Jae Mi and Eo Heung walking down the streets happy together. And if she had gone back to Eo Heung he would have let her be. Also, by taking the blame on him that way, he ensures that she stays in fact spotless - and so if she truly wants to leave and go back, no one will be able to blame her for anything. The kidnapping is really, in that very specific case, a caring gesture, in fact. And even as he chases her; he never pushes. And no matter what she says (and does she say hurtful things - telling someone you wish for him to die is like the rudest of rudest thing to say no matter what - I get that it's intended because we know he is actually dying so we're slapped in the face anytime she shouts something like this out, but still, girl, that's just not how anyone is supposed to talk to anyone no matter what, and no matter what you have been through - also: when someone is fainting around it is generally NOT a good sign, i understand she wanted to be in denial (i guess), but still, it took her so long to actually *worry*?) she clings to him, and right from the beginning; and she stays, time and time again. And when he realizes he actually has won her back and kind of realizes then what he will put her through and tries to push her away again and that she says that this time she'll stay ? AAAHH !! Anyway, even when he does the most seemingly awful hurtful things - like dumping her at her mother's house - he's in fact not being awful (it was a gift to start with because she has always wanted to know about her birth(day etc); and he had thought Eo Heung would get to her (because he knows he cannot take care of her for long himself anyway) - and then Eo Heung comes to him; bless!) I'm not saying he's always right. And even less a model of perfection we should aspire to or long to neither be nor meet. He's a MESS. But in the end, aren't we all? At least, in his sometimes tangled seemingly wrong ways, he tries to do right?

And Bong Suk? I'm a mom, okay - A MOM. Who needs perfume? I was already like huh? Not only because I care about his lungs, but because I care about everyone's lungs in general and him smoking is like an advert for it because, yes, he makes it look sexy (but then, he makes everything look sexy, right, so it's not his fault, lol) - and smoking isn't sexy (and it stinks!). 3) use salads intead of fish for silly fights. don't waste any food, generally; but if you have to then at least use not living food for it? (Am I petty? I am. Still... A minimum of respect for what dies so you can eat?)

(I am very much treating them as NPCs who have virtually nothing to do with whatever the main cast do, since… well, they are NPCs in the grand scheme. …With faces.)

With existing events, it’s hard to say, because if it isn’t a schoolwide event, my brain automatically will take in the reality that they well, weren’t there. At least not as mains. But, chalk up my hesitance mostly being from my distaste of throwing characters into situations they weren’t initially present for. If I do do it, I’m very much a “if something gets added in, something else needs to be cut out” for balance reasons. With exceptions of course. I’m not hyper strict “grrr canon this canon that”, I just think having limits nets better results for creative problem solving.

…Though, If I’m reading vignettes, I do sometimes slot the boys onto faceless NPCs if it makes me lawl.
