It's time I finally say it- *sigh*

I don't think. The Ocelots were friends.

Yeah- wow. What?! How could you say that?? Where did you even get that idea from? Huh? It makes no sense!!?!

I know. I know. But I have my own thoughts. My brain- doesn't like how they are friends. Because they don't seem like friends. Like for starters, Aiden, Maya and Gill were literal bullies. Lukas, didn't give a crap when he saw them bullying us. If you are a friend, and your friends are bullying someone, you tell them not to do that. Not just stand there and go "well, that's none of my business".

And even if he was just too scared to confront them, he's the leader apperantly? Also, if he's getting manipulated... Lukas probably would've said or done something about it(or left them even. Though this one probably ain't the case). We know Lukas is a coward at the beginning. But he isn't that much of a coward. And he is not someone who wouldn't not stand up to himself. He stood up to Axel. Why not Aiden??

But- Lukas literally calls them his friends? You're just saying stuff

Yes. He does call the Ocelots his friends. And yes, I agree. They are a team. How could they not be friends?? What I mean to say is... they aren't really close friends. They weren't childhood friends or.. something like that. That's what I'm trying to say. (And that probably crosses out the- Aiden and Lukas ex-boyfriends thing too-)

They met, for the purpose of winning the building completion. Nothing more. Nothing less. That's my theory. My headcanon. That's just what I think.

Now if you think about it, no one. And I mean no one, other than the Ocelots, have 'matching jackets' or 'a secret handshake'. Because they don't need that to prove they're a team. But the Ocelots- they do. They need something to remind themselves that- 'we are a team. We're in this... together.'

Maybe Aiden, Maya and Gill was a team. But they needed more people, new ideas. And Lukas joined in after? Got... recruited? But I don't think Lukas could have been friends with the Ocelots to the point they were "close"

But they won the building compation like... 9 years in a row. So they must've known eachother for some time. Right? But. In that part where you make a slime block? Lukas mentions something about "you guys seem like close friends" and Axel replies with "what. You jealous?" He is jealous. Of course he is. He also wants to have teammates that care for each other and are close friends. Sure the other Ocelots are friends with him, but not to the point where they go visit each others houses and eat a meal together. The only time they meet is during Endercon. And they decided what to build, and how to get rescoreses and getting the resources. So they never really were that close.

During the Wither storm, we know how the group kept talking about Petra. Hoping she's alive and finding her way here. Lukas mentions it too. Quite a lot actually. But does he ever mention the Ocelots? Nope! Only on the fourth episode when Petra or Gabriel says "I recognize that jacket! When I was getting thrown from that monster" only then does he think about them and remember them. I'm not really overstepping here. He kept mentioning Petra previously, and not only when the others talk about it. He brings it up first in conversations a few times too. Like when he decides to stay behind at the temple and rebuild while waiting for Petra. Hoping she'd come. And in the later sixth episode with the White Pumpkin. Before they find the 'invitation' Lukas mentions Axel amd Olivia. Being worried about them. And- I'll be honest here. I didn't even think about how they could follow us and get stuck in Sky city that is currently in shambles! He cares a lot! But he only remembered the Ocelots after Petra/Gabriel mentions it?? And you could say

The others hate Lukas. And the rest of the Ocelots. Wouldn't it be weird if he talks about them?

Maybe. But no. There are.. a lot of random dialogues in this game as you all know. And Lukas mentioning his teammates/friends? In a subtle way during a conversation? Or maybe just slip it in while talking about finding Petra? It wouldn't be that weird at all! Just a simple "I know you aren't fond of them.. but I hope the other Ocelots are okay.." would have worked perfectly! It isn't weird! He could have easily mentioned his dear dear friends, but no. Not once. Because he isn't that close with them. He just thinks "they're probably doing fine-" and is okay with that.

Now- if we talk about Sky city...

Aiden doesn't seem too unhappy or sad that Lukas isn't on the team. In fact, he ditched Lukas himself!

And Lukas, also doesn't seem so sad about being kicked out. He seems more upset that there's no longer 'the Ocelots'. The team itself. Not the members of it.

In fact- it's almost hilarious, cause Petra seems more pissed off than Lukas is! All Lukas says about Aiden is "he's gotten meaner." Or "Something is happening. He's planning something" nothing about how he got ditched. Maybe he didn't want to talk about it. But it never comes up??! Not even after a while!

And in later scenes, Aiden doesn't care if Lukas dies or not. Just push him off a cliff and oops- is all.

And near the ending of it. If Aiden decides to redeem himself, he says sorry to Jesse. Not a word to Lukas? Not a word with Lukas? LUKAS DIDN'T REALLY GIVE CRAP ABOUT IT EITHER?? ....are you really friends? I mean' just the fact that Aiden ditched Lukas because he seemed to be sniffing around Jesse's gang is weird. If you're such good friends, why don't you try talk it through? It's not even that bad- I know there's a rivalry, but still! Maybe a bit over reacting??

But apparently, Lukas never mentions how he feels about the situation. Like- not once? C'mon. You can't say they were close friends without- Lukas doesn't saying a thing about Aiden or the other Blazerods. Although we do know Lukas is mad at them. But for what? He seemed fine before, or was he just hiding all his anger? It just- it just doesn't sit right with me. I'm sorry- but that's what I think

I'm not saying they weren't friends at all. I'm saying they weren't close friends. Or childhood friends.

I mean I'm just rambling so... just ignore it if you don't like it. And I would gladly ramble more about this if anyone wants me to-.

If you ask me questions about the stuff I said, I will happily (try my best to) answer! And maybe share stuff about why you think the Ocelots were close friends to make me open up more to it.

I mean... I am open to it. But i just like this opinion too much-

Have we as a community ever talked about how INSANE the first episode of Minecraft Story Mode actually is? Like, as a preview of what TellTale can do with Minecraft it’s absolutely buck wild!

Think about it… most TellTale games tend to focus each episode on a specific scenario or location for the majority of it. Like in the Walking Dead you’ve got the farm episode, the pharmacy store episode, the train episode, the hotel episode, etc. There might be a couple locations in one episode, but it’s usually pretty succinct and limited.

Now look at what we got in MCSM episode 1:

We have the treehouse and the building competition.

The night time search for Ruben and the cave and bridge jump with Petra

We’ve got Endercon which in and of itself is a MASSIVE part of the first episode.

We’ve got Ivor’s basement

we’ve got the Wither Storm attack and chase sequence.

We’ve got the friggin NETHER and a minecart chase sequence.

We have a night spent in the wilderness.

We have the ruined Order of the Stone Temple, which in and of itself contains several puzzles and a hallway trap.

And then we end on the big choice that affects how the next episode plays out.

There so much in the first episode alone! Just the events of Endercon alone would’ve been about for a single episode of a TellTale game. The fact that there’s still the Nether and the Ruins afterwards is crazy!

I am currently rewatching s2 (abt halfway through s2e1) and rewatched a canterlot wedding yesterday so these things are likely to change abt this (I will reblog this post with it later!)

iyk the plot of a canterlot wedding, you can pretty much guess where this is going. but still, there are some differences

some time between s1 and s2, petra goes to lukas (her cousin) and shows him the ring and tells him that she plans on proposing to jesse. lukas is very supportive of her decision and encourages her to do it. she ends up proposing to them at endercon! (I imagine beacontown's not that far from endercon). obv, jesse says yes! they are now engaged :]

the days go on like they normally would (for the most part) until the start of s2. I'm thinking maybe instead of the town preparing for founder's day, they're preparing for the wedding (I imagine it's in the order hall!)

when romeo transforms into jesse at the end of s2e3, he has NO FUCKIN CLUE that jesse is supposed to be getting married in like. a week at most. he finds out by petra coming up to him and talking abt it, much to his confusion

now, ofc, jesse is down in prison with radar (and jack?) and VERY MUCH MISSES THEIR FIANCEE. they know they're supposed to be getting married soon and is very nervous abt it bc they don't know what happened to petra!! and hopes she's okay!!!! generally worried abt the wedding and what could happen and if they will even have one at all :(

petra eventually catches on to quote unquote "jesse" not being themselves. in their panic, "jesse" brainwashes petra, similar to how chrysalis did to shining armor in the episode, which turns her eyes a similar color to romeo's, but duller.

the wedding plan goes on. jesse is miserable, radar is slightly less miserable, petra is brainwashed. but where is everyone else in all this? lukas is the main person who goes "HEY WTF?", so he kinda plays twilight in this case, but no one rlly does anything abt it bc they're just like "eh I think they're stressed", which would be understandable in this case tbh

eventually lukas tries to confront "jesse", and obv, this goes poorly. I don't have an exact idea on how it all plays out, but it ends with lukas crying bc He Fucked Up and "jesse" pretending to comfort him, he apologizes, and he sends his ass to the Shadow Realm (sunshine institute)

after a while of searching hopelessly for a way out, he comes across the real jesse (and radar). he tackles jesse, despite their protests, thinking they're still the fake, so jesse has to convince him that they're the real jesse, so they bring up the time where they gave him their cookie in the dirt hut wayy back in s1e1, and he's like "HOLY SHIT! I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU" and they hug and radar's like "aww" and then they move on (again, a reference to a canterlot wedding)

they find a way to escape, yadda yadda yadda (THIS DAY IS GOING TO BE PERFECTT /lyr), and just as "jesse" and petra are gonna get married, lukas, radar, and the real jesse bust in and stop the wedding DRAMATICALLY.

then I imagine it plays out similarly to how the episodes actually went and they defeat romeo (like I mentioned earlier, haven't seen s2 in a hot second, SOO). petra's brainwashing is removed (somehow. still figuring that one out), and then jesse and petra can get married! yayy!!

oh btw I did make wedding outfit concepts for jesse and petra! here they are;

and! here are the wedding roles I have planned;

radar- officiant

ivor- ring bearer

jack- bride's (petra's) escort

lukas- petra's best man

axel & olivia- jesse's best man & maid of honor respectively (it's a non-traditional wedding I can do what I want)

like I said, I imagine the wedding takes place in the order hall, and I may write some vows at some point, but that's basically it. I have some vague ideas on what wedding photos, the cake, the reception, etc. look like, but yk. I'll get there

god this one was so long and i again do not feel compelled to lend them notes but if they get to share their opinion i can share my opinion on their opinion 😋 as any mature adult would do /lh

starting off with claims of having “played through it multiple times” so they’re “qualified to say it blows”… and yet — spoiler alert — being clearly ignorant to important parts of canon, including character names. but anyway

it is completely a you problem if you aren’t compelled by the characters. Jesse’s character is molded by how you play them, so their character is dependent on you. Petra is badass and her arc incredibly written, especially in season 2. Lukas is a lovable sweetheart. Ivor is a mysterious-villain-turned-silly-old man. Jack is a tough adventurer with a devastating backstory. Radar is the ingenue who starts out squeamish and blossoms into a brave, selfless hero. the Admins are beautifully written with heartbreaking backstories. and that’s not to mention all of the smaller characters that are so goofy, endearing, or even completely hateable. in any case, if you let them, all of the characters will make you feel something when they intend to.

i think it’s pretty well-established that folks don’t often go out at night. in the first episode, when they have to chase Reuben into the forest, Jesse gets really nervous when night falls. on the other hand, we know that places like Beacontown are probably kept well-lit at night so that mobs won’t spawn and are closed off from the outside boundaries so none of them can come from the outside in. i think even places like EnderCon were arranged as such. as for combat, all of the characters seem to have at least some decent ability to combat monsters. and Jesse never acts like they’ve never seen a creeper before. and it’s never established that nobody but Petra knows how to craft a pickaxe?

it’s actually a very important part of the first episode that Petra did, in fact, provide the Ocelots with a nether star. it isn’t specified how she got it. perhaps she traded somebody else for it. perhaps she did spawn and kill a Wither for it. not every aspect of the game has to be explained and spoonfed to the player. especially this — Petra was supposed to be viewed as cool and mysterious. we weren’t meant to know her methods.

also, i would presume that not everyone is doing what she does because they have different personalities and preferences. similar to how real people play minecraft. some people like to focus on the creative building aspects like Lukas. some people like messing around with redstone like Olivia. and some people do like to go face crazy monsters and explore dangerous places like Petra. and Jesse does express how impressed they are about the life Petra leads!

(what i mentioned before… Ivor was a huge character and if you played the game so many times how could you not remember his name 😭 it’s just very hard to take criticism seriously when it’s clear op might not exactly know what they’re talking about)

the Command Block was found by Soren, not Ivor. it isn’t explained how he found it, nor does it have to be — like i said, not every aspect of everything has to be tied up in a neat little bow. come up with it yourself if you need an explanation lol. Soren misused the Command Block by creating a legacy for the Order of the Stone that didn’t really exist otherwise, and as soon as their legend was sealed, he put its use up for good. he knew it was too dangerous for any one person to have control of. Ivor stole it from him — but Ivor didn’t have bad intentions, either. he only wanted to expose the OotS for what they were: fakes. he didn’t want to become a god. and the Command Block wasn’t just a power source for the Witherstorm; it was sort of like its heart and its brain, yes, but it is what created the Witherstorm. it wouldn’t have been a Witherstorm without it; it would’ve just been a normal Wither.

i just… don’t really know what they’re on about here. when is anybody clueless to how the universe works? Jesse and their friends don’t know everything, of course, but how could they? they haven’t been all around the world and experienced every aspect of the universe. and it was established that only one thing could kill the Witherstorm: Ivor’s specially-crafted enchantment. nothing else made a dent on the Command Block, not even the F-Bomb. i don’t think any of the basic minecraft actions could’ve helped.

the mcsm team was actually comprised mainly of minecraft fans! especially one of the lead writers, Eric Stirpe; he worked hard to keep the game faithful to minecraft. and if the criterion for a “cash grab” is simply a game based off of popular media, then i guess that’s all telltale ever made lol

anyway idc if you don’t like the game but can you STOP maintagging your “criticism” posts. we fans who look for content under those tags don’t want to see people just hating on the things we love

What's up with Aiden’s character design? Like his shirt?

Was he just a fan of Magnus or was there something originally planned for Aiden before becoming the bad guy?

Haha I think I answered this one once ages ago but I can’t find the original answer anymore.

Originally, EnderCon was going to lean way more into all of the Order as rockstars, with lots of merch and things everywhere. Aiden’s shirt was a Magnus shirt in the same style as those superhero tshirts that have the costume on the chest, Maya’s E is for Ellegaard, etc.

I didn’t work much on episode 1 so I don’t really know the rationale or thinking behind those choices.

Please tell us the "useless" mcsm facts

HI THANK YOU FOR ASKING I HAVE A LOT OF THESE. To my knowledge none of these are listed on the fan wiki so you're getting ~exclusive knowledge~ that I've learned/noticed from my 100+ hours of playing and some snooping on Eric Stirpe's tumblr. I don't know how many of these are actually console-specific so just know I play on Switch and PC and all the screenshots are from my Switch.

- Jens is at Endercon!

- Holding left/right before Jesse gets caught in the tractor beam of the Witherstorm when running out of Endercon (right before the gate) and continuing to hold it on the death screen causes Jesse to slide off the screen.

- Magnus's intro in "The Order of the Stone" has a picture of a cat on the left side of the screen. I have no idea whose cat this is.

- Jack can be seen twice before Jesse and Petra officially meet him. You can see him once in the credits and again if you make Jesse walk past the piston and towards the mine until the camera changes and then walk back to the piston.

- Jesse can say Harper's name before she even gives it to them by selecting "There's no place to hide out here." while in the ditch.

- In the Spanish sub of Season 1 a lot of the lines are just. not translated. I can't speak for the other languages though.

- Gill can be seen multiple times throughout Endercon. He's at the DJ booth, but he doesn't move, have a shadow, or despawn for some reason.

- Anytime the game shows the big zoom-out of the Portal Hall (end of "Order Up!" and the beginning of "Access Denied"), there are no purple portals, but in playable parts, there are purple portals.

- Also in the zoom-out, there's a green portal that gives off a red glow for some reason.

-Eric Stripe didn't like the fact that Reuben was killed and wanted to bring him back for Season 3 before it got scrapped. He was going to be the Reuben of another universe where Jesse was killed by the Witherstorm and be battle-hardened.

- Female Jesse gets misgendered in "Assembly Required" by Ellegaard calling them "Non-Goggle Guy," a Boomtown resident using "him" for them, and of course, being called "King of Boomtown," which could just be a joke since they also call themself that.

- Soren can actually be seen outside hanging out with the endermen!

- Petra appears (and by "appearing" I mean has a speaking role and has some bearing on the episode's plot because she does appear in the "Previously on MCSM" in "Assembly Required" but I don't count that) in every single episode unless you choose Gabriel over her in "The Order of the Stone."

- If you look at the well while searching for Reuben and back out (at least on Switch) this happens.

It can be fixed by walking in circles or interacting with the costume.

- In the Spanish dub of Season 2 in "Giant Consequences" when Stella and "Vos" are floating down the water canals, the scene is super slowed down and genuinely nightmare fuel.

- There's a beta version of "Training Montage" in the files. It's file name is "The" and sounds more electronic.

- Also in the files for every episode in Season 1 is every sound file from Minecraft??? They're all labeled "source_(minecraft file name)"

- Xara's cell wouldn't work in actual Minecraft. Pistons can't move obsidian.

- Also something that doesn't work is Romeo's sacrifice where he runs back after you try to take him with you but you took Radar to the surface in "Beneath the Bedrock" and Radar's hero scene where he runs in with the giant enderman to save the day. The bridge is destroyed, but for both scenes, the devs replaced the non-existent bridge so they could have their big moments.

- Also speaking of bridges, I don't know what causes this (I think it's the decision to stay and help Ellegaard try and make the command block), but the Redstonia bridge Jesse jumps off of can have a larger gap that results Jesse running on mid-air. The high-quality one is the normal bridge and the two crunchy ones are the bugged-out bridge. (Sorry for the quality on the right ones, I had to screenshot my phone recording of it.)

- Ivor was going to have a different plot in Season 2 involving him being all fixed-up by Harper (like what he looks like in Season 2) and was going to be on a quest for Soren that would gradually make him fall back into his old eccentric ways as the game progressed.

- If you rebuild Reuben's monument and then die to the strays, the monument you rebuilt will still be there even though the dialogue still says it was destroyed.

- Also while on the topic of strays, there are multiple mentions of 1.11 features (llamas, woodland mansions, etc), but there are only 2 mentions of 1.10 features (polar bears that show up in the credits of "A Journey's End?" as Jesse enters the Competitor's Village and the 5 strays Jesse fights in "Giant Consequences."

There you go! I have a few more, but they're mainly just mentions of bugs/glitches I've seen throughout the course of playing. Thanks for letting me dump a bunch of these!

Oh definitely his character development. The way he gains the confidence to stand up for not only himself and what he thinks is right is so satisfying and yummy.

Least favorite thing about them?

Probably. That he apologizes to you if you’ve been awful to him in episode 5. It makes sense to me character-wise but it’s awful.

Favorite line?

Oh boy, just a heads up I’m awful at choosing favorite lines. Can I just change this to favorite scene?

Some favorite scenes have to be the awkward convo with him at endercon. The coolio one. Pama scenario,, after he’s unchipped. And when he confronts you at episode 5 season 2.

And just.. when he’s there. He’s a really good character.

Or maybe that while I think the dirt hut/treehouse scene hurts I think it puts a lot on the table regarding Lukas’ character. Especially when you let him leave.

MCSM: My Warrior’s Tale 1

Note: Basically this is my personal canon of Minecraft: Story Mode with my own variation of Jesse which is just my main OC edited into the context of MCSM because I’m uncreative

I made all the parts for episode 1 at night when I was Tired and Fixating Part 2

Nothing built can last forever, Jesse knows this intimately. And every legend, no matter how great, fades with time, whittled down by years and years till nothing is left but half-truths and myths. In essence, lies. And yet, in all known universes between here to the Far Lands, the legend of the Order of the Stone persists on unchanged.

The Order of the Stone themselves are quite young, barely in their forties by now. But the legends of amazing heroes, all types of builders and people, coming together to slay a mighty beast known as the Ender Dragon has always had its hold on the worlds.

The Order of the Stone was the name of a far off legend and fairy tale, now it's the name of a group of heroes who turned fiction into reality.

Only truly troubled lands have a need for heroes, and it seems that this one was of them. Lucky are they to have four heroes to have made their lies and myths into truths.

Gabriel the Warrior, Ellegaard the Redstone Engineer, Magnus the Rogue, and Soren the Architect.

They defeated the dragon and finally gave everyone a solid name and face to the legends of old, cementing their names in history.

“Would you rather fight a hundred chicken-sized zombies or ten zombie-sized chickens?” Olivia curiously asks.

“Hm, I guess the zombie-sized chickens? Because seeing one that big would be pretty interesting. Fighting wise? I’d say fifty-fifty on that. The chickens won’t try to hurt me but the zombies would, but a startled chicken is a pecky chicken. Really depends on the mood, really,” Jesse replies as she flips to the next page of her book, while Olivia sets up a nightlight for Reuben, “He’s coming with us.”

“Really?”

She puts down her book to look at Olivia, “Of course he is, why wouldn’t he?”

“Okay, okay, I’m not saying that he shouldn’t come but don’t you think it’s a little weird that you take him with you everywhere you go?”

“Reuben’s my best friend along with you and Axel. I’m not leaving him behind.”

“I didn’t mean anything by it—”

“I know, I know, you don’t want to give everyone another reason to call us losers. But when we win this year’s building competition, they’ll have less reason to do that!”

“Okay, that’s fair.”

Axel pops out from the ladder and startles the three of them, earning a reflexive punch from Jesse.

“Ow,” Axel groans, taking off the mask and rubbing his nose.

“Not funny Axel!” Olivia chides, while Reuben tries to tackle him.

“I could tell,” He grumbles, pinching the bridge of his nose, “That was some punch Jesse, where’d you learn to hit so hard?”

Lie.

“Thanks, I’ve been working on my combat skill lately,” She brushes off with a smile, “Did you bring the fireworks?”

“Of course I did, I also brought something for the little guy.” He brings out an Ender Dragon costume and puts in on Reuben, who happily parades around the room in it.

A few moments later Olivia and Axel head down while Jesse grabs a few more things. Shears, Flint & Steel, and double checks the durability on her stone sword.

Really should upgrade this to an iron one, I have a feeling I’ll need it for some reason... Huh... Warrior’s intuition?... I’ll bring some iron just in case.

They decide on building an Enderman along with their firework show.

(“Get it? Enderman at Endercon with an Ender Dragon pig.”

“I regret suggesting an Enderman.”

“A Creeper would’ve been cooler.”)

Their team name is the Order of the Pigs, and they get onto prepping... Until Axel and Olivia get side-tracked by what the Ocelots are doing.

“C’mon guys don’t get distracted by what the other teams are doing and focus on our own build.”

“They have a freakin’ beacon!” Axel repeats, more exasperated than the last time.

“They’re not just making a beacon. They’re making a rainbow beacon!” Olivia adds, panic lacing her tone at its edge.

“Relax, we’ve got this,” Jesse tries to assure.

“Who are we kidding?” Olivia retorts anxiously, “We’ve got nothing.”

“We have a plan, each other, annnd a cute mascot. Now let’s stop ogling the competition and get to work!” She announces with a clap as she turns to her friends.

Gill laughs at them as him and Maya approach Aiden, “Look, it’s the Order of the Losers. Again.”

“Don’t mind us,” Jesse tries but her voice is drowned out by Olivia’s.

“We were just looking.”

Aiden, that snarky bastard, replies with an arrogant surety of the Ocelots’ victory that she brushes off, but then he has the gall to call Reuben food.

“Shut up asshole.”

“What was that?” Aiden says, cold and serious in an attempt to be threatening. If he was a bit more unhinged it would maybe scare her, but that he is not.

“She—”

“I said, ‘shut up asshole’ or is your hearing as defective as your brain?”

“Why you—”

“Stop wasting time you three,” Lukas orders, “We’ve got work to do.”

“Hey guys,” Petra greets the two groups, “How’s the build going?”

“Only time will tell, but we’re optimistic,” Axel replies, with Olivia and Jesse nodding along.

Lukas smiles and approaches Petra (and in turn the Order of the Pigs), “Hey Petra, I forgot to thank you for that Nether Star.”

“Hey, no problem Lukas.”

Jesse and her team, with a lot of prodding from their leader, continue getting ready as Lukas and Petra banter for a bit before she leaves.

“Hey,” Lukas calls out, causing them to turn to him, “No hard feelings guys. If you’re cool with Petra, you’re cool with us.”

Jesse smiles, “Of course, let’s focus on making this about how awesome our builds will be, yeah?”

“Yeah, and may the best team win.”

Lukas and his team turn and walk away before Jesse replies with, “Be careful what you wish for.” The Ocelots pause for a moment, before Lukas smirks and chuckles but continues on.

They spend the whole afternoon making the Enderman alongside the rest of the builders with their own structures. Aiden tries to get a rise out of them again but Jesse pays him no mind so the others don’t either.

When they finish their build and the fireworks go off, all eyes are on them in awe. For once, everyone’s looking at her and her friends like they’re actually capable of something.

Aiden, in his fit of petty jealousy, breaks a block that was blocking off some lava which sets Reuben’s costume on fire and risking their build.

A switch flicks and Jesse’s off the Enderman and running after him while shouting some orders to her team.

“You two block off the lava while I get Reuben!”

“You got it Jesse! We’ll meet up with you at Endercon!”

If Aiden is suddenly knocked down and has a broken nose after she passes by, she won’t say it wasn’t her.

SO THE SONGS I LINKED IN THE LAST ASK

i’m going through each one individually and explaining why i like them because if i’m gonna hyperfixate on any one aspect of a video game, it’s gonna be the sound design

Jitter

alright this one is a favorite of mine for admittedly personal reasons, namely that it reminds me a LOT of the game Spore. which is a game i have been playing for twelve years now, and love to absolute bits. (one of the music beats from spore, for reference)

Spore’s soundtrack was actually partly composed by brian eno. if you don’t know who brian eno is, he’s more or less considered the father of all modern ambient music. he’s a BIG deal. and jitter honestly sounded like something he would have composed.

Soren’s Theme

soren is honestly my favorite of the old order of the stone. he’s eccentric, inspired, talented as HELL with building, and is an excellently multilayered character with a lot of depth. even though he’s an oddball, and even though he made mistakes, he cares a LOT for his friends and felt very guilty for what he did (or perhaps what he encouraged them to all do). 

his theme reflects all this perfectly imo. it’s strange, the chords don’t seem to quite play as they should, and there’s a hint of wisdom and experience behind the bass and almost static-y sound of the out of tune instruments. it sounds like someone who’s been around for a long time, who maybe doesn’t have themselves all together, but are still full of life and energy.

How Bright Your Life Could Be / How Dark Your Life Could Be

my theory for how this came about was basically telltale approaching antimo and welles like “alright you guys, we need a character theme for a slightly antagonistic character who is in charge of an excessively organized city but is pretty manipulative” and all antimo and welles heard was “antagonistic,” “organized,” and “manipulative” and proceeded to create the most UNHINGED pseudo-villain theme in the entire goddamn game.

how bright your life could be is excellent for champion city: the whistling sounds like birds straight out of a disney princess movie, WAY too cheerful and fantastical to be realistic. everything is pristine and beautiful on the surface.

and then how dark your life could be begins and the melody devolves into an absolute HORROR SOUNDTRACK. the background strings start a crescendo and go absolutely nuts, making for extreme tension and outright FEAR. stella is fucked up and antimo and welles will make sure you know this.

not to mention in how dark your life could be, the soundtrack gets so distorted it literally sounds like something out of marble hornets (flashing visuals & general creepiness warning on that link).

Ivor’s Theme

man this one should be self-explanatory dfksljfds

the main theme of season 1!! the menu music!! ivor’s leitmotif!! it drew inspiration from C418′s Aria Math, an absolutely gorgeous and classic minecraft song. it helped mcsm feel even closer to traditional minecraft.

i’ll be honest, i was charmed by episode 1 of season 1 when i first started playing it, but it wasn’t until this theme started and we saw ivor for the first time that i actually got really invested. the scene in endercon did an EXCELLENT job establishing real tension and plot. and the fact that the song continued into the freewalk through endercon, one of the best freewalks in season 1?

Mush Room

season 2 episode 3′s entire soundtrack is phenomenal (the synth instruments that reminisce of stranger things, whose telltale game antimo and welles ALSO worked on, are one of my greatest weaknesses), but this one is by far my favorite.

this is the song that says, “you’re trapped here. and you’re not getting out.”

i believe this is the one song in this episode’s soundtrack that has the beacontown leitmotif (you can hear it at 0:32 and again at 2:32), which. i am nothing if not a sucker for recurring leitmotifs. 

not only that, but the beacontown leitmotif in particular is extremely effective for this freewalk since radar and nurm are there with you. a small piece of beacontown, a reminder what you’re fighting for. you may be trapped, but there’s still hope.

Ellegaard’s Theme

i didn’t think i’d ever hear a harpsichord going into minecraft story mode, but BOY AM I GLAD I DID

the clock ticking like a redstone circuit? the gorgeous string instruments over a subtle background hum? 

it’s refined. it’s calculated. it’s hard at work, as brilliant and beautiful as the glowing redstone circuitry creating complex machines and new solutions to every problem.

and yet, there’s a hint of sadness behind that piano. regret? loneliness? we didn’t get to know ellegaard very well during the time we had with her, and i wish we did.

Harper’s Theme

i’ll be honest, if soren’s theme didn’t press all of my buttons, harper’s theme would be my #1 favorite.

i talked about how much i adore episode 7 of season 1 before, and this song exemplifies ALL of my points.

harper, who had been alone for years, maybe even a decade or longer, finally finding hope in strangers who appeared out of nowhere from the portal network she helped build. 

harper, who battled guilt every day for creating pama and letting it get out of control, to the point where she had to build statues that would give her pep talks and advice, which she named after her friends in crown mesa.

harper, who slept underground, reading to pass the time and trying to come up with a plan that would only have a slim to zero chance of working.

harper, who was proud of her work but horrified at what it had become.

harper, who was a genius and an inventor, intrigued by complex redstone creations and determined to do good in the world.

harper, who never gave up, not on herself, and not on the people of crown mesa.

Minecraft Story Mode July AU Countdown

Minecraft Story Mode has multiple AUs, and this is a month-long countdown dedicated to celebrating it! Some AUs are fandom specific, some are just fun general concepts for AUs, and each one will be a blast to see explored. Art, writing, cosplay, other creative measures- anything goes!

July 1: Modern AU

AU wherein Mcsm characters exist in a more modern world and/or with more modern/advanced technology and means of living than shown in the series.

July 2: Actor AU

Mcsm characters are actually just actors who are filming a choose-your-own-adventure style movie where there are different scenes depending on the audience’s choices. The actors have their own lives and may get along well / have their own bonds regardless of character relationships. Many shenanigans ensue both on and off set.

July 3: Hogwarts AU

The characters are wizards in a magical world, potentially learning at Hogwarts or enjoying the broader world beyond it.

July 4: Order Swap AU

Ivor, Ellegaard, and Magnus are all excited for the upcoming Endercon competition, where they could win a chance to see Petra the Warrior in person. However, it doesn’t take long for things to go wrong due the surprise appearance of someone named Jesse, who’s got a bit of a grudge and a command block... (The two Orders are reversed in roles and stories. Other characters may likewise be moved or swapped.)

July 5: Hybrids AU

In a world where full humans see themselves as “more normal” and superior to the animalistic hybrids around them, it’s up to a bunch of scrappy hybrids to save the day. (AU created by @warning-heckmouth. Jesse and the rest of the new Order are all hybrids, part human and part animal, with Lukas hiding his traits and Soren having wiped the old Order of theirs in an effort to seem normal.)

July 6: Sky AU

While uniting the floating islands, Isa comes across an abandoned baby. This baby is Jesse, and Isa takes Jesse in as her own. Many years later, while Jesse lives as the Founder’s child, the Blaze Rods and Order of the Stone arrive at Sky City, and neither Jesse or Isa’s life will ever be quite the same. (Created by @jesseoftheorder. Lukas is part of the Order at this point, Axel and Olivia arrive at Sky City with Ivor, Petra, and Lukas, and the Order stopped the Witherstorm without Jesse.)

July 7 (Saturday): Off Day

July 8: Order Villains AU

What if the Order was more like how Aiden described them to Isa? What if they were just as vile and dangerous and wasteful as warned? (The new Order of the Stone are villains intent on misusing the Eversource while the Blaze Rods are genuinely trying to help Sky City from suffering the same fate as their own world.)

July 9: Demigods AU

The new Order of the Stone (and/or potentially other characters) are partly the children of powerful gods, each having powers based on the abilities of their godly parent.

July 10: Witherstorm Connection AU

Everyone was more than happy to believe any traces of the Witherstorm died with it. However, it turns out an unexpected side effect of nearly being used up as energy is a never before experienced sharing of emotions and more through a benevolent but confusing hive mind. (Those captured/influenced by the Witherstorm have the ability to hear the thoughts of others who were also affected.)

July 11: Benders AU

Mcsm characters exist in a world akin to Avatar the Last Airbender and/or are able to bend and use certain elements at will.

July 12: Withersickness AU

Despite the fact that Jesse, and possibly others, had more exposure to the Witherstorm’s beams, Petra/Gabriel seems to be the only one who suffers from the withersickness. At least at first... (Jesse [and/or another member of the group] ends up with withersickness.)

July 13: Supernatural AU

It might be hard to think the world of Minecraft could get much more magical, but nothing is as it seems. (Various characters are supernatural entities and/or exist in a world filled with such entities and properties.)

July 14 (Saturday): Off Day

July 15: Fairy Tale AU

Mcsm characters exist in a fairy tale world and/or are living out the roles of characters in fairy tales.

July 16: Role Swap AU

The Order members may all be the same, but in this AU, the Order members don’t quite fill the same roles. Axel happens to be a redstone engineer while Olivia’s a griefer bent on causing some form of mayhem, for example. (AU where the roles of various characters are switched.)

July 17: Super Hero AU

For various reasons, some people in the mcsm universe are born with and/or later gain incredible abilities that they use to protect and help people.

July 18: Hadrian’s Deal AU

Jesse, in yet another moment of misguided heroism, decides not to tell the other about their deal with Hadrian and throws the games so they can go free. Surprisingly Hadrian keeps end of the bargain leaving Jesse in the mines and the rest of the new order in the portals with no way of getting home.

July 19: Western AU

The good, the bad, the ugly, all of it from mcsm but adapted to a much more western frontier style setting.

July 20: Reuben Lives AU

The title says it all. AU where everything is pretty much the same except Reuben is alive after episode 4.

July 21 (Saturday): Off Day

July 22: Admin AU

One or more mcsm characters find themselves with admin powers, or have always been admins, for any number of possible reasons. How they use their powers and what for can be just as varied and uncertain.

July 23: Mythical Creatures AU

Various characters are mythical animals or creatures.

July 24: Command Block Pocket Dimension AU

Ivor’s too big of a risk for Soren to just let him go. Soren’s already got experience with removing obstacles using the Command Block, and since there happens to be a nice little pocket dimension inside where everything it removes is kept, it can be like Ivor never left them. Not that Soren will tell the others where Ivor really went, of course. (Created by @gateaugrimoire. Ivor and the Enderdragon fuse to create an odd hybrid creature determined to save the other members from Soren.)

July 25: Apocalypse AU

Jesse’s world was already interesting before it all decided to end, and now it’s a battle to survive what seems like brutal Armageddon with the people met along the way.

July 26:  Children AU

The New Order gang are children rather than adults in the witherstorm timeline trying to navigate what might be the literal apocalypse in the from and the Old Order are adults who are all, including Ivor, very conflicted about having a group so young tag along on the quest to stop the end of the world as they know it. (Created by @nyanshadowforce and @jesseoftheorder.)

July 27: Gem/Fusion AU

Various (if not all) characters are gems in the style of Steven Universe or are otherwise able to fuse.

July 28 (Saturday): Off Day

July 29: Ghost Hunters AU

Mcsm characters are a part of a team of paranormal investigators exploring haunted places, similar to Ghost Adventures or Unsolved: Supernatural and other similar shows.

July 30: Youtuber AU

Instead of saving worlds from terrifying monsters and eccentric criminals, the new Order and other Mcsm characters are helping people through a variety of diverse but fun videos and youtube shenanigans.

July 31: Free Day

Hellooooo! Um, if you're still taking random requests, maybe something about (platonic, of course) Jesse and Ivor post-Episode 4, where they don't flat out dislike each other anymore but still have that uncomfortable awkwardness between them? I always wondered how they went from reluctant, former-enemy allies to kinda-sorta friends between Ep 4 and Ep 5.

When Ivor met Jesse on the night of Endercon, he thought very little of her. Just some over-confident child who was in way over her head. Afterwards, when that same girl kept popping up to get in the way, from snooping around in his hidden lair to giving him a swift punch in the Nether to the duel in Soren’s fortress, she became a pest, a thorn in his side just like everyone else.

Then that same pest became the world’s last hope.

Then their hero.

And now, Jesse was the person he owed the most to.

There were the obvious reasons for this, after all, who didn’t owe their life to the person that was brave enough to take down the command block? But in his case, there was more. For one thing, she’d also given him a place to stay. People weren’t happy to have Ivor around, it didn’t take a genius to figure that out. So as one may expect, finding an area to live that wasn’t out in the middle of nowhere proved difficult. The day that Ivor was just about ready to give up and surrender to a new isolated life was the same day Jesse offered him one of the extra bedrooms in the newly completed Order Hall.

“Just until you have enough materials to make your own place, sound good?” She’d told him, pointing towards the spare bedroom.

Why? Ivor himself couldn’t come up with a good reason. They weren’t friends of any kind. And why would they be? They hardly ever made conversation with each other after the Wither Storm’s defeat, only really talking to each other when it came to matters regarding the slowly budding town being built (that ridiculous debate on what to name it was still going, people were stuck between Stonesville and Beacontown) or the occasional awkward small talk Jesse would attempt to make. It would be ludicrous of him to ever think Jesse thought of him as a friend.

And yet, it seemed that she didn’t consider Ivor an enemy either. Or if she did, she was very good at hiding it. Never once since he settled in had Ivor spotted a scowl from her in his direction or accidentally eavesdropped on a conversation where she brought his name up with unpleasant words, things he’d grown used to living here with the rest of the new residents. But when it came to Jesse, Ivor was just…there. And she acknowledged that. That was it.

It didn’t make sense one bit. Ivor tried thinking from every angle possible, but no answer would solve this puzzle. Because, really, of all people, Jesse should’ve hated him the most. But she didn’t.

Why?

Recently the group of four heroes had decided to start going adventures of their own, more often than not looking for treasure. Ivor had almost gotten used to the quiet Order Hall until Jesse, Axel, Olivia, and Petra returned to town after a three day trip, empty handed treasure-wise, but full of stories to tell about the journey at the dinner table. Soon after the meal, the group decided to turn in for the night, save for Jesse, who was still finishing the last pieces of her baked potato, and Ivor, whose nose had been stuck in a book since the afternoon.

Unfortunately, he made the mistake of glancing up from the pages, causing direct eye-contact between Ivor and the young leader sitting across from him, still poking at what remained of her food with a fork. Too late to dart his eyes back to the novel and pretend it didn’t happen, the young leader was already staring at him, the uncomfortable silence filling the air. How odd. Normally it would be Jesse who’d start off the strained small talk that would lead to nowhere. But tonight, she was silent, almost as if she was expecting him to say something.

And he does, shocking himself and her.

“So, Jesse,” He began with a pause, “what’s your favorite color?”

If Ivor hadn’t been holding that old copy of How to Train Your Slime: Volume 2 in his hands, he might’ve slapped himself on the forehead for the asinine conversation starter.

Jesse blinked and glanced to the side before answering, “Uh, I guess pink’s cool. I like pink.”

“Ah, that’s…nice,” Ivor muttered, cursing himself internally. Perhaps now would’ve been the time to slowly raise the book higher as to end the pathetic excuse for a friendly chat right there.

That is, until Jesse continued with, “What’s yours?”

He looked up again, eyes wide with surprise. He cleared his throat to try and shake it off, “I’m fond of blue, myself. Dark blue.”

“Neat,” She replied plainly before the quiet brewed up once more. Jesse placed her fork aside, her fingers tapping on the table as it now fell on her to come up with something to keep the conversation alive, “So, how’s the material gathering going? For your house, I mean.”

“It’s going fine, I’ve gathered enough stone for the framework, and I have a basic idea of what the shape shall be,” Ivor said, muttering on the side, “Shame the blonde guy took off, I had hoped he could look over the blueprints.”

“Do you know where you’re going to put it?”

At that question, Ivor paused, unable to tell whether it was another attempt at stretching out the talk or a subtle way of requesting he disappear soon. He shouldn’t be surprised if it’s the latter. Really, a part of him knew this day would come. It would be fine. Ivor’s been alone for years, what’s a few more stacked on top going to do, drive him mad? Please. Most people would say it was far too late for that.

“Because, you know,” Jesse piped up, breaking his thoughts, “there’s an empty space right near the Order Hall’s entrance. I could reserve it for you.”

Ivor went still, the words said feeling unreal, “Really?”

She gave a shrug, “Yeah, I mean, I figured you want to stay nearby, right? And nobody’s claimed it yet, so…yeah. All yours if you want it.”

“I see, then,” Ivor moved his head downwards, acting as if his attention was being returned to the book, “I suppose I’ll take it.”

“Alright,” he heard her say, “I’ll mark it down first thing tomorrow.”

The final pause of the night rose up before Ivor said in the smallest tone he’d ever heard his voice in, “Thank you, Jesse.”

“Mhm.”

Against his better judgement, Ivor glanced up from the book again. Luckily for him, this time Jesse returned to her food, moving the potato chunks around in a circular motion with her fork, as if the conversation never occurred.

What a strange person.

Maybe it was begrudged pity that drove her. That seemed logical, right? Ivor could accept that.

…For now, at least.
