This whole Bumper spin-off thing is shit.
So, indulge me: If they’d announced a Bechloe spin-off instead, what would the series have looked like? Would it be them finding their way to each other post-PP3? Would they fall in love during the series? Or would they be pre-established??
And would the series have been true to the PP we know and love, or would it have been a cash-cow of a show?
Big hugs 🤗
Oh Doc, you ask and say the most insightful things. Genuinely though, if there was a Bechloe spin-off, I'd want it to be in the midst of their lives post-PP3 (similar to this thing Chloe and I worked on). I'm here for the drama and passionate singing. All about their mutual pining for each other. Let's say they're already in love with each other, but there'd be a classic case of misunderstanding - not knowing that their feelings are reciprocated. And then all the Bellas would chime in on the impending relationship, trying to help their ex-co-captains get their acts together. Humor ensues.
It's honestly very simple! All tried-and-true series of tropes, themes, and narratives we've seen in popular tv shows or movies. and fics!
also there would be no Bumper.

Not sure if you accept suggestions for Podcast themes but I’d be really interested to hear an episode of ‘The Breakup of Beca and Jesse’. Whether that includes fics based on their breakup or fans theory’s of how/when it happens, and the aftermath (particularly how Beca reacts).
The fun thing is we have a canon conversation about it at the beginning of PP3 between Beca and Fat Amy. The vibe I get from that convo is that not only was the breakup close enough to the time of convo for Fat Amy to immediately assume that Beca had got back together with him, but also that Beca was probably either super annoyed that Jesse ‘moved on so quick’ and/or super gutted they’d broken up in the first place.
Just a thought that’s got my imagination running wild recently 😄
Of course! I’m always up for hearing suggestions.
Oooh! This is such an interesting idea! I know a lot of fics have dealt with this in different ways that I have read. I would love to hear what peoples favourite break-up in fics are, and what their head cannons are for their break up. I always find it interesting how writers deal with Beca and Jessie after Barden moving to opposite ends of the states and having a long-distance relationship.
I think the cannon is really interesting. I was thinking of doing an episode about the deleted scene in Pitch Perfect 2 which featured a big Jessie and Beca scene about him leaving to go to film school (It’s in a few screenplays of the movie I've seen online). It's such an interesting thing that happened that we never saw in the movie and I think it says a lot too. Plus of course, Pitch Perfect 3 actually talks about the break-up. Its an interesting point you make about how Beca feels because although college was like two years ago it does seem like their break up is still fresh and a sore subject to talk about, and we learn some things like him moving in with his new girlfriend and getting a cat. Something Beca and Jessie never got to in their 4 or so year relationship.
I would love to know other peoples thoughts are on this. My mind is whirling with thoughts.
Thank you! ^_^

So, I’d like to apologize for saying I’m going to have something up and not following through. I’ll tell you, it’s not for a lack of trying. I’ve just literally had such a hard time writing, lately.
Even my Secret Santa gift I had trouble with, and I’m not entirely sure I liked how it ended, but I tried. I’m just getting increasingly frustrated because I want to write but when I go to-- it just seems so hard and daunting. I’ve just got some sort of mental block going on or something.
I’m trying to get something up. I’ve been bouncing back and fourth between drafts and my chapter fics, hoping to try and get some sort of creative juices flowing somewhere, you know? And I’ve written a little on a few things.
Anyway, I’m sorry. I promise, I’m still here and I’m definitely working on getting past this. I really miss writing, I just can’t seem to make words happen. I’m trying, guys! I promise. Hopefully soon, something will eventually get finished. You guys are amazing and I appreciate your patience. <3
On a more happier note, I hope everyone had an amazing Christmas (or whatever it is you might celebrate if not Christmas).
#tbd#I wish i was as good as asweetmelodytrickling#she whips them out and im like h o w#i guess it doesn't help that i've been feeling extremely inadequate and self conscious lately#that probably has something to do with my anxiety/depression and shit but yeah#i think that might be one of the things hindering my writing.

For @asweetmelodytrickling
Merry Pitchmas! I’ve always enjoyed your writing so I’m glad I get to return the favor this Pitchmas ☺️
I swear this started as a one shot but the idea kind of got away from me and turned into something more. Hope you like this first chapter! My goal is to finish this before the end of the year.
Synopsis: The Bellas’ first Christmas at their house on campus with Beca and Chloe as their new leaders. Unfortunately the two co-captains have very different perspectives on the holiday. Beca is forced to confront her buried feelings and keep the holiday magic alive for both of them.
~~~~~~~~~~
The winter holidays were far from Beca’s favorite time of the year. As a young child, she loved the magic of Christmas. The day after Thanksgiving her dad would bring down their red and green totes of decorations to trim their ever reliable plastic tree. The fake douglas fir that had been a part of their Christmas tradition since she was born and dubbed “tree-tree” by five year old Beca. It had built in lights that flashed to the melodies of looped classic Christmas songs. Beca could hum the melodies in order as she hum decorations around the house.
She loved shopping for gifts with her mom for their friends and family. Her mom would get home late from her shifts at hospital to stay up a few nights before Christmas wrapping presents with Beca. She’d stare in awe and pride and the piles of gifts that crowded around the tree when they were done.
In the evenings, when both her parents were home, she would look forward to their walks around their Pacific Northwest suburban neighborhood spending hours staring at the intricate displays in amazement. The Christmas lights sparkling in the darkness, reflection bouncing off the wet pavement. Each house display was even grander than the last. A secret competition between the neighbors each year to have bigger and brighter displays. But Beca would beam with pride knowing her dad had put up a display that rivaled them all.
Beca’s parents kept up the Santa charade for a while. It accounted for an uneventful innocent childhood that people today wouldn’t have guessed would lead to years later, the rebellious alt girl Beca Mitchell years from revealing herself. Each year Beca would try to stay awake as long as possible to get a glimpse of Santa. She was ready to recite all her good deeds and prove to him she deserved to be put on the “Nice” list and finally get what she wanted. Each year, she stayed up just a little more, inching closer to midnight. She almost made it when she was nine years old, but by ten, everything changed. Her dad left her mom, and with one final plea that went again unanswered, the joy of Christmas died for Beca.
~~~~~~~~~~
Chloe’s eyes narrowed as she scanned the room. Her front teeth bit gently on the eraser end of the pencil she held in her hand. “Maybe if…” she muttered, her eyes shifted upwards taking a moment to think, before she took the notebook in her other hand and began scribbling furiously.
It was Beca’s first Christmas at the Bella house and Chloe wanted it to be perfect. The moment she returned from Thanksgiving break she knew she needed to get to work as soon as possible. Beca had gone back home to her mom’s on the west coast then but she begrudgingly admitted to Chloe over the phone that she would be spending Christmas here at Barden. Her mother had booked a vacation in Hawaii with her boyfriend and even though her father lived locally, being a Barden professor and all, Beca refused to spend any time during the holiday season at his house. The thought of spending any more time with her step monster and her father’s new family was more than she could bear and adding the cheerfulness of the holiday season was like rubbing salt in an open, festering wound. Jesse, Beca’s now ex-boyfriend, was not an option anymore. They were only together for a few months but the pressure she felt from him insisting he come home with him to meet his parents suffocated her. Some days she felt like he really understood her and others, she felt like they were reading from different books, let alone being on the same page. It was okay though. Beca was used to being alone. Alone was comforting. It was uncomplicated. It was familiar.
“It’s not a big deal,” Beca insisted as they discussed the situation over breakfast one morning. Chloe stood by the kitchen counter, steaming mug in her hand as she steeped her tea bag, eyebrows raised staring at Beca with a look of concern. “Really!” Beca laughed despairingly. “I’m not a big Christmas fan anyway. I’d rather spend the break here watching Home Alone or something.”
Chloe shook her head as she watched Beca ascend to the room she shared with Amy. That night Chloe called her family and let them know she would not be coming home for Christmas after all. This was her first year as a super senior and she made the excuse of needing to use the break to study instead. Her parents did the obligatory act of how much they would miss her and wish she could stay, but being the youngest of the four Beale children, she knew her mother was already grateful she would have a free room to host a portion of the grandchildren who slept over each year. Their family was known for their big holiday get-togethers and the Christmas morning unwrapping of the mountains of presents underneath the large tree. Chloe was determined to give even a fraction of that holiday spirit to Beca at Barden. It was not fair that she could not experience the same magic she herself felt each year.
Chloe nodded to herself as she reviewed her plans on her notebook one more time. This year will be perfect.
~~~~~~~~~~
“Honey, I’m home!” Beca shouted into the Bella house mildly amused with herself. This was the first time she felt like she actually had a home in ages. Shuffling between her parents' houses growing up made it hard for her to feel like she had roots anywhere. For once, she felt like she had a place that was all her own with people who loved and cared for her. People who got concerned when she wasn’t home on time. She stretched out her aching muscles. She took a seasonal job at a local retail store selling audio equipment. She hated every moment of it, but couldn’t deny the huge discount she could get on new DJing equipment. She shoved her keys back in her pocket, taking a moment to look around their front room. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight before her.
Every inch of their household seemed to be filled red, green, silver, and gold. It was like Santa’s workshop exploded in their shared space. In the boughs of the Christmas tree next to their fireplace, she saw a familiar head poking her head out. A velvet Santa hat on her head and silver tinsel garland was wrapped around her neck. Stacie, Lilly, Ashley, Jessica, and Amy were all gathered around her with various decorations strewn about them as well.
Chloe grinned as her eyes landed on her best friend. “Beca! You’re home!” she squealed.
Amy was between them, her eyes shifting from each co-captain. She had a needle in one hand and front of her was a bowl of popcorn. She took the opportunity to sneak her hand towards the popcorn bowl to grab a handful, but without looking, Chloe smacked her hand away. Chloe cleared her throat and resumed her grin.
“I thought we were making popcorn to watch a movie. I didn’t agree to this!” Amy exclaimed, standing up. “Beca, do something about this! I feel like I’ve been imprisoned in Santa’s workshop. You’re our only hope Beca Claus..”
Chloe rolled her eyes at the blonde’s dramatics.
“What is all this?” Beca grimaced, pulling at some garland wrapped around the banister of their staircase.
“Christmas bonding exercise! The girls and I decided we wanted to make your first Christmas here extra special,” Chloe winked.
Beca began to protest, but then Chloe held up her hand to stop her.
“I know what you said, but no one should spend Christmas alone. We’re a family, Becs. We’re here for you,” she wrapped her arm around her and kissed her on her cheek. “This will be the best Christmas ever!” Chloe squealed, bouncing in excitement.
“Of course it will, Chlo,” a familiar voice said, emerging from the kitchen behind them. A hand was placed on Beca’s shoulder and she turned to meet the blonde with an unamused look on her face.
“Aubrey…” Beca mumbled. “You’re here too… Yay…” she waved her hands with a fake enthusiasm.
Aubrey smirked at her and grabbed Beca’s hand. “Beca, can I talk to you?” she asked, though she was already pulling her into the other room.
“Um… sure,” Beca said as Chloe waved at them.
Have fun, Chloe mouthed returning to decorating with the other girls. Stacie had started singing the first verse of Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. Chloe joined in and sang the second verse as she put more ornaments on the tree
Beca rubbed her temples as they walked away. If she was going to endure more of this holiday cheer, she would have to take Chloe’s iPhone
“Please don’t tell me we’re planning some Bella concert this year. I barely escaped last year’s,” Beca muttered, arms crossed.
“I mean, if I was still captain, that’s what we would be doing. You can’t let your guard down for a second. We have a national title to defend,” Aubrey huffed, her own arms crossed, mirroring Beca. “But that’s not the point,” she shook her head. “I’m here for Chloe and since I’ll be out of town for Christmas this year, it’s up to you.”
“Up to me for what?” Beca’s brow furrowed.
“To be Santa,” Aubrey said, as if that explained everything.
“Aubrey, you’re not making any sense!”
Aubrey took a deep breath, closed her eye, as she rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Chloe still believes in Santa,” she started.
“What do you mean she still believes in Santa?!” Beca exclaimed and Aubrey quickly shushed her, looking back at the door leading to their front room.
Beca scowled, “You’re kidding right…?”
“No,” Aubrey shook her head. “Unfortunately.” She sighed, looking up as she recalled a memory. “My dad’s in the military so there wasn’t really a place for me to go during winter break. Chloe usually goes home for Christmas but one year her flight got cancelled due to weather. That was the one time we spent Christmas here at Barden together. Alice wasn’t really a Christmas fan either, so it was pretty low key. But that was our first mistake. Chloe told me she wrote to Santa to let him know she wasn’t spending Christmas at home this year and hoped he would get the letter in time. Christmas day came and I will never forget the look on her face that day. We had the gifts we gave each other under the small Christmas tree in the room we shared, but when she realized there was nothing from Santa, I could see the moment her heart broke. She tried to hide it, but the rest of the day she wouldn’t leave our room.”
Beca frowned, thinking of what Chloe must have looked like that day. She was still trying to understand how a twenty two year old girl still believed in Santa, but she did her best to ignore that fact for now.
“So… Why didn’t you tell her the truth? Santa isn’t real and her parents are terrible people for letting her believe a large man in a red suit is allowed to break into their house once a year to leave presents they obviously bought her instead. Oh, not to mention, expecting children to give up their holiday cookies to him each year. I mean, dude, is supposed to visit millions of children each year. It’s a bit greedy, don’t you think?” Beca huffed, a noticeable bite to her assessment of the beloved Christmas legend.
Aubrey squinted back at her, but decided not to prod any further to Beca’s personal feelings about Santa. “I would have, but I couldn’t just let her sulk for the rest of the year. Despite what you think, Chloe is my best friend and I hate seeing her crushed like that. So, when presents came from her parents a few days later with a few gifts marked from ‘Santa’,” she made air quotes around the name. “I made it seem like Santa left her a note apologizing for the mix up and her presents arriving late.”
Beca placed her head in her hand and shook it in disbelief. “So… what am I supposed to do?”
“Well, this year my dad’s said he’s gonna try to make it home so I won’t be here. And you know the rest of the girls go home in a couple of days too. So it’ll just be you and Chloe.”
Beca blushed at the realization that she’d be home alone with her best friend for at least the next week.
“You have to pretend to be Santa,” Aubrey said, matter of factly, as if there was no other option that made any other logical sense. “All of this,” she waved her hands around, pointing out all the holiday decor around them, “is because Chloe thinks Santa couldn’t find her a couple of years ago. So unless you want to break her heart again and deal with a despondent redhead come New Year’s, it’s your job to keep the magic alive.” She patted the brunette’s shoulder and left her alone in the kitchen.
Beca blinked, stunned at the new task she was given by her former captain.
She didn’t think the holidays could get worse for her, but the realization she had to rediscover her long dead Christmas spirit to keep her best friend’s spirit alive sent a feeling of dread down her spine. It was a lot of feelings she had to unpack. But, despite denying it to anyone who would ask, Beca would do anything to make sure Chloe was happy.
my thought was always that they knew they were going to be long distance and that they couldn’t make it work. i picture them going off to their separate places to start their new jobs, and maybe trying to make things work for a couple months, but then they decided to do the “mature” thing and call it quits because life was just getting in the way, but beca hadn’t been feeling it for a little while anyway—jesse was much more into their relationship than beca was, especially toward the end. maybe they fought a little bit because jesse didn’t fully understand why beca wouldn’t go with him (i get this thought from the first PP where he’s super intent on beca watching the movies he wants to watch while not really putting much effort/enthusiasm into her music when she shows it to him) and that was what started those bigger cracks that ultimately led to the breakup.
i always headcanon that jesse moves on pretty quickly, and it’s not a case of him being unfaithful or anything, he just likes the idea of a solid, stable relationship at all times and once him and beca break up, he can’t help but immediately want something else to fulfil him, hence the new girlfriend. beca doesn’t necessarily care, like it doesn’t make her sad or anything that he has someone new, and in reality she’s pretty happy for him, she cares about him and she wants him to be happy. however, what makes her sad is the thought that she’s that easy to move on from, and it pushes her back into her shell a little bit in the romance department, but gives her more of a boost to focus on career stuff.
(and then chloe breaks through the shell, because of course she does)
Not sure if you accept suggestions for Podcast themes but I’d be really interested to hear an episode of ‘The Breakup of Beca and Jesse’. Whether that includes fics based on their breakup or fans theory’s of how/when it happens, and the aftermath (particularly how Beca reacts).
